This place is dog friendly, and right now during the pandemic, there are plenty of outdoor seats. We had our 2 pugs with us and the staff was attentive and brought a water bowl out for them. I ordered the English muffin sandwich. I am always on the hunt for a gourmet breakfast sandwich. This one definitely ranked high on my list. My husband ordered the pancakes, eggs, and bacon with country potatoes. He really enjoyed his meal. We also had a few champagne cocktails. Very busy on weekend mornings so noise level can be a little high for a relaxing breakfast, but food is good and service is friendly and fast. Food is served quickly and hot. I wish our server had mentioned that they had a specials board as we had never been there before. The board was behind me so I didn't see it until after I ordered. I really would have liked to try the shrimp andouille omelette on the specials. I did have their weekend crab cake Benedict, it did satisfy. Even though it's a Cajun place, There are lots of Mexican dishes for vegetarians to eat. I've had the green and red chilaquiles, and although the portion is small, it's really flavorful. The huevos rancheros is unique and very filling: there are layers of fried tortillas, vegan beans and rice, cheese, "soyrizo" and eggs cooked any style, topped off with avocados and a nice, spicy sauce. Be prepared to run several miles after enjoying this calorie-laden meal. I couldn't find any Cajun dishes that could be made vegetarian, though. There is a delicious spinach- mushroom-feta cheese scramble that looks like a frittata and comes with a generous serving of Cajun spiced home fries. I came to the cajun kitchen today after a stroll thru the Ventura farmers market (which if you haven't done you are missing out). This place is a nice shop its cozy and cute. The menu was pretty nice full of lovely items to pick from pancakes to lunch items like burgers so many choices. After reading, we settled for the beignets, pancakes and sausage, and egg breakfast with a side of french firies. The food was good for under $50. Now my food, the beignets were ok not the best I've ever tasted but were good. The pancakes were also ok. The breakfast was good also never had andouille that wasn't spicy but it was good. Second morning in Ventura we tried the Cajun Kitchen. We were so glad we did. Jambalaya and eggs, New Orleans omlet and French Quarter Omlet. We have been wanting to try Cajun Kitchen for some time as there always seems to be a line on the weekends. We hit our morning walk down the Avenue early and were able to get in and seated right away. First, their staff is very friendly and helpful. Our server, Tatiana, gave some recommendations based on our tastes. We ordered the jambalaya with egg and a biscuit along with the New Orleans omelette with cornbread. The food, it really does take me back to NOLA. The jambalaya was loaded with shrimp and the heat just sneaks up on you (how I like it)! Cajun Kitchen is one of my favorite places to eat, we order beignets, chilaquiles, and a warm cup of coffee. Although the food is great, the tables don't always look wiped down and coffee is sometimes warm and not hot. Some of the staff is very nice and happy to help while others are pretty rude and leave you without refilling drinks or asking if anything else is needed. If you want to eat alone with out anyone bugging you this is a great place to go. If you like the attention and service, I would recommend Two Trees Cafe or DSW's Country Cafe. This place usually has a line out the door because the food is yummy, the staff friendly, and you are in beautiful, charming downtown Ventura--what's not to like? Space: it has three places to eat: the front which has booths and is busy and noisy, a back room which is quieter, and a back patio. Unless you have 5 or more people, you seat yourself, so make sure you poke your head in the back to see if there are tables available.The place isn't fancy: the tables and chairs remind me of being at an AA meeting or something, but the food makes it worth it. Food and drink: they are only open for breakfast and lunch (till 2:30) and they have interesting misosas (today pomegranate or guava), the coffee is strong and plentiful, and the dishes huge. I had a crawfish ettouffee stuffed omelette that came with potatoes and a biscuit for about $12 and my friend had jambalaya with eggs. Both were savory and had a nice spice kick. Neither of us could finish our dishes. We saw a couple splitting a dish next door and decided we'd do that next time. They will let you order lunch in the morning, too, which is nice. My quibble is with their biscuits. I love biscuits, but these are fluffy and had little taste; a good biscuit is dense and flaky. But still, this place is pretty great. It's better, and actually cute. Then, a back room gets cuter, and they back patio -- cutest, although it only has 4-5 tables. But the food -- oh the food! Big, beautiful, and bodacious menu features both southern and regular fare. I got the Jambalaya & Eggs. A very big portion, too big for even a major eater such as I. Spicy and absolutely delicious. I also ordered a biscuit. Disappointed when it was actually a cut wedge because I lost the good edges and appeared more like cornbread, but it was a wonderful flavor and served warm. Everyone talks about the service. It was alright. 4-5 different people waited on my dining partner and I, and I found myself repeating "We already ordered that". I would go here any day of the week. Wow! I was so excited I was finally presented the opportunity to try this place a few weeks ago. The fiancé wanted to go out for breakfast to eat French toast and I on the other hand was craving chicken and waffles. On the other end a gentleman said that it's wasn't in their "specials menu" but they most certainly can make it. When we arrived, there was already a crowd outside and it was only 9:30a or so. The wait was about 15-20 minutes and we braved the wait since this was the only place that served my chicken and waffles. I am a bit saddened that their version of chicken and waffles is not traditional in the fact that the chicken is either a leg and thigh, but CK's is a well-breaded piece of boneless chicken paired with 4 big fluffy perfectly cooked waffles, topped with whip cream and strawberries for only $10.95! We were so excited to enjoy breakfast here! Service was very low quality. The lady taking down names seemed very tired, annoyed and overall extremely rude. Get some rest lady! Smile! The waffle was ehh. It was not the fluffy Belgium waffle we were expecting but a flat and slightly soggy waffle. It came out before all the other food but was cold. We had to ask for napkins and water several times but were often ignored/forgotten. We also had to ask for the check and were not even thanked on our way out.
