Before my visit here two days ago, the last time I was here was over 15 years ago. This place has been open for long time and I'm here to report that it is still good though a bit more pricey. I used to come here as a kid with my mom to eat the alligator and frog legs. This time I had the fried shrimp, catfish with fries and seafood gumbo. I didn't like the fries. The gumbo is about average but the fried shrimp/catfish were good. It's always nice to come here to relive childhood memories. read more

Thanks to my friend Evelyn Starr for telling me about this place. We've been eating here for YEARS .. it's on corner of N.Houston Rosslyn & Little York. New item since my last visit was grilled salmon & I gotta say it was excellent, large portion, moist & delicious. We also had grilled talapia & grilled snapper. Any of the fried combo platters are excellent. Love their shrimp & onion rings. Not a fan of fish or seafood, not to worry, they have the biggest chicken strip platter around, not only is it huge but nicely seasoned with a lite crispy batter and finger lickin mustard sauce....yum, served on top of a huge platter of french fries. over the years we have brought everyone we know, friends & family, in and out of towners, it's always a winner!! just a clean, simple joint with great food. read more

Located in a not so safe area of town and shady parking lot The personnel here are usually friendly on my visits. This is one of those places some people like that I totally DON'T get! It's fairly close to two of my company's locations, so it draws a big crowd from the office and I have ended up eating here on multiple occasions. The big crowd also equals long wait (sometimes) for food that is mediocre at best, and definitely not authentic. So, the food. The idea of picking between blackened salmon, blackened mahi mahi, grilled snapper and the one other featured fish for $10-$13 sounds great in theory. I mean, yay for multiple choices and blackened seafood! On the plus side, I think the fish itself is decent quality. The sauces sound good, such as: crawfish tails, shrimp, spinach, mushrooms in a monterrey jack sauce (the #2). I mean, dang, doesn't that sound heavenly?! But imagine said sauce with no hint of cheese whatsoever and thin consistency with a bland, err no taste. Seriously, the sauce adds nothing to the fish...you might as well not get it! And yes, if I have to go back here again, I will not get any more of their sauces...I have been fooled enough times. If I were you, and got roped into coming here (like me), I'd stick to the blackened catfish. It is mostly good and accompanied with a small cup of butter lemon sauce. In my opinion, that is this place's only saving grace, yet it's not great enough to make me actually WANT to come here. And the "dirty" rice, corn and french bread?...meh, pass. Solid Cajun spot, even the people in our party from Louisiana agreed. The portions were massive, and the crawfish ettoufe was amazing.

I liked the food here so much I ate here two days in a row while visiting from Austin... There are many things that I miss about being back in the "Bayou City" and fresh seafood cooked right is one of them. So, if you need to have it... come here... off the beaten path.. and tucked away in a strip center. Over the two days eating here, I ordered: fried shrimp, fried oyster, fried crawfish, fried gator, and fried fish... I also tasted the grilled fish and chicken fingers some others ordered.. all done perfectly. My biggest compliments and loves go to the fried oysters and fried gator. The oysters were not over cooked and the gator was cooked at a good high heat to seal in the flavor and the touch of peppery spice that they made them with. Oooo-oui sha... good stuff here for true! Overall the atmosphere is family friendly and clean. I watched over two days how this was THE spot to meet for lunch or after church meals. I may not travel this area often, but the Yelp reviews led me to this pearl in the oyster that I may not have found otherwise... can't wait to go back again! read more

I was craving Gumbo on this rainy and Cold day. I happened to be in the area and I remembered that they had Gumbo! I went to Yelp and the reviews that I looked at didn't mention gumbo at all. They did recommend shrimp etouffee. I went up to the counter and ordered and requested dine in. I was amused by all the signs they had displayed. Ranging from 15% discount on cash to can't take your order if on cell phone. The place appears to be clean, but outdated. Staff didn't seem very friendly. Not that they are rude, just not friendly. The food was okay, but not something that I will go back to get more. For $20 with tea, I have had much tastier Cajun! read more

Look - i'm no Cajun. I've spent a great deal of time in Louisiana; but by far no expert in this genre of cuisine. I don't intend to tell you that this is the best Cajun joint in town - but I will tell you that I won't go anywhere else to get some Étouffée when the craving hits; this is simply the best i've been to (as well as the one in Greenspoint); i've always left nothing short than satisfied. I might be their biggest fan, I wish they'd put one in central Houston. The crawfish Étouffée is unbelievable. Its not some watered down soup variety over boring white rice. Its pure heaven - tails in every bite, and atop dirty rice that is worthy of its own review. The staff always is cordial, helpful, and attentive. When friends and family visit Houston and want my choice for authentic Cajun; this is where I go. read more

Been coming here for years! One of my faves for Cajun food. Love the Cajun pasta although the shrimp can taste unclean some times. The pasta sauce and andouille sausage is the best in town. The garlic cheese bread is very good as well. Crawfish eoutoufee is excellent here. Got a nice spice to it. I also really like the chicken tenders and catfish. Came here for a quick lunch break today. The food was definitely good but not amazing or anything. Ordered at 12:40 pm and got my food at 12:52 (I needed to leave at 1:00 so I was watching the clock). +1 for being quick! I got the shrimp étouffée with white rice and also nibbled on some fries that a friend got. The shrimp étouffée was good - it almost reminded me of curry - but it didn't amaze me or anything. The texture of the shrimp was right but I think some stronger flavors would have helped. It was also very oily but I didn't really notice until I got to the bottom of the dish. The fries were also good - not addicting - but definitely worth getting. Prices were a little high for lunch in my opinion: more than $10 for a meal you can probably finish in one serving. I would come back again, at least until I find something better. This wouldn't be an automatic go-to place though. read more

Kinda plain jane at first glimpse until you step inside with amicable customer service and the cajun aroma in the air. This is the place for some good old fried and Cajun food. The questionable location and run down hole in the wall outer appearance does not deter the crowds from flocking here for lunch. Popular with people from all walks of life, this place stays busy. For good reason, too.. I chose the catfish: three large, thin cut and cornmeal battered fillets of perfectly fried and light tasting goodness, this comes with some choice fries that are not greasy or too crispy hard. Crawfish bisque is a winner, as well, with a creamy, well seasoned base and plump crawfish tails. Stuffed crab is golden savory breading encasing fresh shrimp. The fried oysters were also fresh and not soggy as some can tend to be. Crawfish tails were plump as in the bisque and fried in a light batter. Pecan sweet potato pie was enjoyable and a nice twist on pecan pie. I thought of it as the best of both pies, pecan and sweet potato, merged into one pie hits the spot for dessert without being too heavy or rich. Comforting food done well. Service is order at the counter, take your number and place it on the holder at your table and the food is brought to you. Food comes out in a timely manner and employees are friendly while keeping lines efficiently moving. Drinks are self serve and includes they typical soft drinks as well as teas. The decor is more Krusty Krab (Spongebeb reference here) than upscale. In fact there is nothing upscale about this place. It is just your typical hole in the wall with pleasing food. It's not dirty by any means, in fact, it was clean. Still, you don't come here for the ambiance. Tables can be cramped during peak lunch hours but the space is still maneuverable. The parking lot, while it has diagonal parking is also cramped and has seen better days. The lot is shared by a discount grocery and other non memorable stores. Remember to bring cash because this place discounts 15% on bills over $20. Prices on the whole are reasonable and worth what you pay. I'd come back for certain. read more

Save some cash and eat at Cajun Town Cafe! So, I heard the chef or owner? (not sure) used to work at Pappadeaux but then opened up his own place w/ similar recipes but at half the price! The bf took me here for lunch today and good thing we came right before lunch time hit because there was a long line after we ordered. Cool thing is, you get to choose a topping. I believe there was 5 choices of seafood sauce toppings. I can't recall all of them but it's listed on a sign by the cashier. Basic and efficient procedure when ordering: 1. Get in line 2. Order + pay 3. They give you a number to display on your table 4. Bam! they bring out your yummy food. For my first entree ever, I ordered the Stuffed flounder w/ a #4 topping. - comes with dirty rice and 2 slices of bread - rating 4/5 I also tried some of the Blackened mahi mahi w/ #1 topping. - comes with vegetables, dirty rice and 2 slices of bread - rating 5/5 Overall, I enjoyed it. Since I was raised all white-bread and meat/potatoes kind of guy, Cajun style food isn't my deal. I'm not huge on blackened catfish, or snapper, or anything caught out in the Gulf. That being said, I like to expand my horizons every now and then. So, Cajun town -- not the prettiest place outside or inside -- but the place is clean, the staff very friendly and food arrived quickly. I got the cajun sausage with red beans and rice. I thought the spice of the sausage was nice, but the red beans were a bit on the dry side (maybe undercooked a tad?). Anyway, food was okay, the atmosphere okay, the location sucks, but hey, you don't go there for the parking lot, right? So solid 3 stars -- awesome service, okay food and okay pricing. Forget Pappadeaux! Come to Cajun Town for your Cajun fix! I try to eat here every time I come home. My girlfriends have to listen to me whine about the lack of good Cajun in San Francisco and usually give in and accompany me. I always have the crawfish etouffee and always leave happy (and fat) as a lark (are larks fat?) The prices are incredibly low for the quality and quantity you get. I guarantee you will enjoy your meal. P.S. Yeah the interior of the restaurant is a bit...drab but you can always take it to go. read more

Great lunch. They serve a 2 or 3 item combo plate which you can select from. The alligator and crayfish plate with French fries is my favorite. The crayfish and alligator is seasoned well and is always served fresh. The portions are extremely large and the service is great. The place looks a bit older from the outside but don't let that be the deal breaker , gotta go inside to see what a great restaurant this is ! read more

Food was delicious, and fresh, and since we went during Texans playoffs, it wasn't packed at all. Staff was very friendly and patient, and knew menu items very well. Location is almost hidden by the grocery store and strip, but it is a nice seafood restaurant with inexpensive prices. read more

So yesterday I was passing by here and decided to go on in and eat. I use to eat here a lot when I was younger because it was one of my parents favorite spots, but I haven't been back in about 3 years at least.. When we walked in it was only one other couple in there eating just a slow day I guess.. We went up to the counter and they told us if we were eating there we could just sit down and they would bring us menus, that's a change since the last time I was there. I ordered cajun pasta and my boyfriend ordered fried shrimp,crawfish and onion rings.. I didn't like my pasta at all! The location and outside throws you off, but it is much better than what it seems. the seafood is fresh and they have a great selection. the other people I came with loved their food as well, there are even options for people who do not want seafood. The only thing I did not like was the fact that it took forever to get my food. i figured it would be a little since it was busy and lunch time, but everyone else except me got their food and I had to remind them twice to bring it out. When they finally brought it out, it was not even the dish I ordered but I was hungry and had to go so i ate it anyways. wasn't a big deal since I enjoy all seafood but anyone else would have been much more annoyed than I was. Came herr during lunch. This place had a steady crowd and several people who had apparently ordered to-go food ahead of time. I got the fried oysters and my fried got the fried shrimp. Both came with lots of seafood and seasoned fries. The oysters were seasoned and fried just right. The portion size was more like a dinner sized portion. For a drink, I recommend the raspberry tea. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity received. My only regret is they no longer have stuffed flounder on the menu! The dining area is clean as well as the rest rooms.
