Food is great! Interesting menu, tons of really good options, something for everyone. Calexico is a great addition to the neighborhood, what we have been waiting for! A few kinks need to be worked out, such as food temperature, liquor license, and speed of food coming out from the kitchen. One concern is that the prices are high, and everything is a la carte. Offering free chips and salsa at the start of the meal will make them more competitive. Definitely a must try! Enjoy! read more

This place is not consistent across locations. I have had subpar food from the Wburg location and the truck. So I was underwhelmed when a friend chose this place for lunch. But I was pleasantly surprised with my tacos. They were all well seasoned, fresh with a decent amount of filling. Also had a tasty margarita as they were having a special. I'm pretty upset today. I've been coming here for awhile now, my go-to spot when I'm craving something spicy and Spanish. My boyfriend and I absolutely love their chile cilantro fries. Today I bought my brother and aunt here to find out the portion of their fries was cut more than half. We told the waiter and he justified it with "well we cut the fry portion and added the crack sauce on the side instead". Didn't seem like a good enough reason to cut their portion. If I wanted the sauce I would've paid for it. Then my chicken quesadilla was half burnt. I had to take half the chicken out. I craved this so bad the other day so me & my husband go an we waited about 10 min for a table, no biggie. We sit an the waitress comes fast which was good brings up a base of water which was room temp 2 glasses with no ice an no straws. OK, still no biggie where enjoying our outing. She takes our order & was very helpful with suggestions. I ended being simple, nachos for app 2 chicken tacos an my husband 2 fish tacos, 1 beer an a frozen margarita. So me an my husband is chatting away an realize a table of 6 sit an another of 4 an 2 ladies next to us our server ends up taking all of their orders right after ours. Mind you we still didn't get our drinks or a straw. So she finally arrives with 1 straw an a hot tap beer that's probably been sitting for at least 10 minutes. OK still I'm enjoying the night with my hunny an we ended up sharing the straw no biggie, our delicious nachos come out an where enjoying them very good an now waiting a pretty long time for our tacos, So we're talking an then notice the table of 4 gets their food an then the table of 6 gets their things an now the table of 2 right next to us sit an ask our server was their a backup in the kitchen bc she doesn't want to wait a hour for 2 tacos so the waitress says yeah we're pretty backed up but I'll push your order through. She comes back right away with their drinks an tacos for them "omg" did she just really play us" like everyone who came after got served before us. My husband was pretty annoyed he called her over canceled the food an asked for the Check. She just looked so overwhelmed that I felt bad. About a minute later our food comes an the manager brought it to us (he's the food runner as well) an we told him we canceled it due to the prior reasons, he looked over whelmed as well too, he apologized an comped our whole Check which was nice but it's not about the money we are out enjoying the night off we would of appreciated good good food, cold drinks, an good service not even great we're very simple ppl to please feed us an that's it. I am sitting at Calexico as I am writing this review! Everytime I have come here on weekends its been crowded and too long of a wait for a table (which is a good sign). It's Monday night and this place still has a good crowd! Cavan our server rocks! He is pleasant, and when asked, was great with recommendations as to what to order. He recommended the brussel sprouts as an appetizer and they were delicious. We had the cheese quesadillas and the chicken asado tacos and a chicken burrito. We had several drinks. The house margarita, the mango margarita and the red sangria were all terrific. The food and service are excellent! I can't wait to come back and bring some friends! read more

I live in Brooklyn Heights, and go to the small stand in Red Hook for their outrageous Chipotle Pork Burrito and Jalapeno Cheese Grits. You order from a counter, have only beer for alcohol, and sit at one of about 4 tables. Very casual. However, in walking Park Slope we found this sit-down version of the restaurant with the same great food, expect it has waiters, a bar and lots of room. It feels like a real restaurant. Even have a weekend brunch menu. Due to the great reviews for their tacos, I ventured from the burrito and had the Chipotle Pork Taco and the Carne Asada taco. My wife had the grits and Mushroom Quesidilla. The tacos were good, but liked the burrito better. The grits were just as good as Red Hook. The quesidilla had a great consistency, but lacked flavor and the onions were not tasted. Highly recommend, especially for lunch. Great mexican food, and easy on the wallet read more

Stumbled on this joint today as we were making our way through the neighborhood. Had the carne fries as an appetizer which were delicious! Perfect size portion as an appetizer. I tried the tostada salad which was really good- fresh, crisp, little bit of hear, perfectly chopped and dressed. Also tried the fish taco which was good but would have preferred fresh fish as opposed to fried. All in all great place with nice decor and attentive wait staff. read more

The food is so good! Much better than the one in greenpoint and the food comes out super fast at this location. My husband and I have been to this location 5 times already and every experience has been great. However the service is OK and needs improvement. I was a server for many years and it's difficult for me to understand bad service.. Our server today was Laura She was very attentive in the beginning. She asked us 3 times before we got our jackets off and settle in if we wanted anything to drink...we have a wild 8 months old) it takes at least 5 mins to settle in ... When we were ready she was no where to be found. Finally she took our order our food came out and was brought out by multiple people. She didn't even check on us once. We couldn't find her so flagged down the hostess to bring us ketchup. I finally had to go up to her to get me check after she looked me dead in the eye twice and didn't come over to our table. At this point our 8 month old was screaming! Ahh I just don't get how you can completely ignore your guests. I hope our experience is better next time.. You can't give your 2nd drink to someone else" - no mention anywhere, not on menus (or very very fine print), no mention from staff. + Sick next day: - we split nachos with steak. I went here for the first time last weekend with my friend from out of town. Her first time in Brooklyn and I think Calexico had a heavy hand in making it awesome for her! The tacos were...SO good. I had the tofu taco and the bean one, while she had the two different fish tacos. We also had blood orange margaritas and chips and guac. EVERYTHING was delicious. One of my absolute favorite Mexican food restaurants! Fantastic tacos and drool worthy rolled quesadillas. Just went here tonight and we left before we were even seated. The hostess was beyond rude to us to the point where we left before we got a table. She literally yelled at my friend when he asked her a question. I have no idea how the food is but I refuse to give this place any of my money based on the way I was treated. How a restaurant can treat paying customers this way is beyond me. My guess is that the place assumed that it's "reputation" is good enough that people will still patronize the place regardless of how they treat their customers. Walked into Calexico when my wife and I saw the huge happy hour sign. Buy one, get one margarita free?? I ordered the mushroom quesadilla and she got the pork tacos. Honestly everything was pretty incredible. The drinks were very strong and the quesadilla was filling. The sauce that came with the mushroom quesadilla was soooo good too. Tasty food and great service! Went for dinner with a friend and was pleasantly surprised by the great meal I had! Our server was pleasant and efficient, and the food was fresh, well prepared, and just spicy enough to be fun without being too much. The elote was great--- on the cob grilled corn with crema and cheese--- it was a bit messy to eat, but worth having to ask for extra napkins for. This place is amazing. The crack sauce should be had with everything. The nachos were great (maybe the cheese?!). And the quesadilla are worth eating as a meal or even shared appetizer. The restaurant is clean and well groomed, nicely decorated for a fast casual. The food is okay. There could be more flavor in the food and the prices are too high for a fast casual dining they don't really do anything to elevate the flavors and plating over getting your food at Chipotle. Actually at Chipotle the food is a bit tastier, more sauce toppings and generous with the cheese. You're paying more for decor than flavor. The tacos are small and the drinks are not very potent my Margarita at Chipotle had more zing. I had high hopes for this place. The shrimp taco is better than the chicken so if you can eat shrimp I would suggest that over the chicken. The rice was bland and didn't have enough seasoning. The staff is the biggest highlight here friendly especially the young lady doing Togo food she was very helpful. Not terrible but since the price point is high for this I would expect a little more flavor and plating presentation than I received. read more
