My order was the triple-burger with calibur fries, I had this delivered to me so I can't describe the ambiance or the service of the place. The burger was not great, dry and overcooked, I'm not sure if thats how it's supposed to be, but that's how mine turned out. Really nothing special about the burger. The fries however were pretty good, the onions and the calibur sauce mix very well together. The only reason I'm not rating it lower is because I did not go in person and only experienced the food. My burger was Ok. Nothing special. Each was about $10. We shared an order of fries which was huge for $4 and worth it for real fries but they were soft not crispy. Hubby ordered a chocolate shake and I took a sip. It was good but was better in the past when they used a local brand ice cream, 3 Twins, which sadly closed during the pandemic in 2020. We sat outside in the wooden parklet which only seats about 8 persons. The 2 tiny tables outside the front door were too close to people walking by. Snagged some shakes and a pint from here. Review omits the actual food such as burgers. Shakes were solid, basically what I expected from a burger joint. Milkshakes generally hit the average mark for being blended with milk and not ice, but most burger joints don't screw this up. The shakes here were also thick, despite not being drank immediately, which is a bonus so that puts them above average. That means they have a solid ratio of ice cream to milk. Sizes weren't too big for the price and depending on the day, I might lean towards a fast food milkshake for more shake and cheaper, but this order was good. I will say, I was a huge fan of freezing the shakes and eating them like a soft serve type of ice cream. Thick and flavorful, the shakes are great as ice cream or as a drink. To defrost a frozen shake here, leaving it out for a few hours and then mixing the melted portion with the less melted part creates a perfectly thick shake. Neapolitan - felt like more vanilla than anything else, but there was a strong chocolate presence at the bottom. Strawberry and vanilla competed for power for the top three quarters of the cup. Chocolate - a classic chocolate shake but not extremely chocolately, there's a fair mix of vanilla base I think which lets the shake feel more like a standard shake or ice cream rather than pure chocolate. Strawberry - was not super artificial! Good strawberry flavor, think the quality of the ice cream was solid. Creamy, delicious goodness. Dulce De Leche Ice Cream - wow, shoutout to Calibur for introducing me to Double Rainbow ice cream. The caramel ice cream was so smooth and creamy with a delicious caramel flavor. Mixed in were some caramel swirls that were somewhat viscous and stronger than the ice cream in flavor. The fries here are AMAZING! Crisp, well salted and they give you a sh*t ton of them. One order for three people is more than enough. The burger was very fine too (single cheeseburger). I did not care for the Calibur sauce, so I think I'd skip that next time but burger itself was juicy with just the right amount of garnish. There is only outside seating but we made it work. Standing room only indoors. It was wildly busy on a Friday night but we only had to wait about 10 minutes for our order to come up. The triple cheeseburger was huuuge, it was dripping of grease and sauce more than I would prefer but the flavor was amazing. The portions were huge and I could not finish everything without sharing. The Calibur fries do remind me of fries from a different fast food place and I would have liked the fries to be a little crispier but I love that the grilled onions and sauce are placed in containers on the side so that you're able to make them yourself and not get the fries soggy. We arrived to a smallish place on West Portal. There was no sitting outside so this was mostly a "to go" type of place or you could sit in the nice parklet right outside the restaurant. There was one booth and several stool/counting type of seating. I ordered a medium rare single cheeseburger with everything except pickles. Loved that the patty was made of organic grass fed beef. The bun was very fresh and is made the same day. The burger was cooked perfectly and this was a decent sized burger. Price was very reasonable at $8.99. The calibur sauce (similar to Thousand Island) added a kick of flavor to compliment the burger. I also ordered calibur fries which came with calibur sauce and caramelized onions. This was no boring dish of fries. Yum! And lastly, the owner, Hector, came to check in on us periodically to make sure we were doing ok. He was attentive and made us feel very welcome. After we were done, we had a chance to chat with him a bit. Super nice guy who focused on superb service. I came with my family and everyone loved their food too. I just ordered food from this place last night! Don't believe the pictures! It's nothing like that it is garbage! Not only that, they sent me lettuce in the burger that looked like wet seaweed, and it was only a little piece of it with a rotten tomato and the fries that they call tallow fries, they're actually stale and they were cold. Everything was garbage! They brag about their caliber sauce. there was none in the burger. They had my review removed, but what happened was they will not provide mayo on the side. I called the owner and they flat out told me they refuse because it will take up time they need to serve GrubHub customers. I was actually visiting the store and buying a lot of food from them and they just flat out don't care about their individual customers or the neighborhood they are located in, and they prioritize GrubHub and Doordash customers instead. Cute little burger spot in the West Portal neighborhood, but an average experience overall. I don't typically find myself in this part of the city too often, but I was hiking in the area and decided to grab a burger from here. Grabbed a burger at Calibur with my son yesterday and it's a quality flame broiled burger at a great price point. We each had the double cheeseburger and fries. The team working behind the counter was super friendly with a great attitude as well which to be honest is quite rare these days, so a "shout out" to the young lady who took our order behind the counter yesterday! The food was quite good and satisfying and we'll definitely be back again.
