Wasabi Salmon Bowl (sub Salmon with Shrimp)
    Tiffany S.

I just had to leave a review for my local California Fish Grill location in the Springfield/Alexandria, VA area. I've been about three times since it's opened and all three times were fantastic. The most memorable time was when I ordered the Wasabi Salmon Bowl, but I substituted the Salmon with Shrimp. Wow! Packed with flavor, especially from that Wasabi Aioli sauce. If you are a Wasabi lover, like myself, you definitely need to get a Wasabi bowl from them. 9.5 out of 10 for their Wasabi Bowl. Other great items include the Mediterranean Bowls (8 out of 10), Shrimp Skewers (8 out of 10), or Shrimp Tacos (9.5 out of 10). Great Food, Great Customer Service, and Cleanliness has always been on point when visiting this location. Check them out, whenever you are in the area.

To be very frank, this placed shocked me tremendously. From the old baja fresh to this was a big upgrade. Food is fresh and super tasty! I was able to try 4 items from the menu cause my partner and i were both invited. The side caesar(5/5), the grilled fish(5/5), crispy shrimp5/5), lobster rolls(partner says 5/5), coconut shrimp(4/5). The food and service was fast! I loved everything i tried!!! Prices are great for the amount and we'll seasoned food. Amazing food! I am glad it is in the neighborhood so many options to cone back to try. They offer alcohol and yummy N/A drinks too! Staff is super sweet!

First time here for our kid's track fundraiser. Food was good and they alcoholic beverages lol.

The food is freshly made & delicious. The menu is Keto & GPL-1 friendly or if you are just eating healthy. They list the protein and calories transparently. The service is spot on and quick to offer help and recommendations. The atmosphere is clean and friendly. The tables have handicap level as well as high tips with ample handicap parking right in front.

This is my first time visiting here, I was really excited to see that there was a new fish restaurant. There is a good variety of dishes including Poké bowls to grilled plates as well as protein bowls too. What I really like about this place is that it shows the amount of protein in each dish so for people who are tracking their protein like myself it's been really helpful. The staff here is very kind and service is wonderful and they made me feel very comfortable and welcomed here! I like that there's plenty of seating and also a lot of lighting, which makes the place feel bright and nice! Now for the food, I ordered the lobster roll the clam chowder as well as the grilled Ahi grill plate with a side of diced zucchini and white rice. The lobster roll is small for the price that you pay for, but it is very fresh and very delicious! The clam chowder is very tasty as well. The only downside is that if you get it to go, they don't fill the cup all the way. The Ahi grill the plate is a great healthy option for a meal and it is also very delicious and the Ahi portion is quite generous. I hope to come back again and try more dishes!

So We've Been Here A Couple Of Times & Its Great Having A Seafood Place With Fresh Selection Of Seafood Available! Definitely Excited To Try More Dishes As The Last Times We Went They Sold Out Of The Tuna & Lobster Rolls So Those Are Definitely On The List Of Must Try's As They Sold Out Quickly! Also Forgot To Mention That They Have Artisan Sodas Along With Pepsi Products But No Mountain Dew Unfortunately But Can't Wait Until They Can Offer The $6 Cocktails On Tap There Look Delicious! They Said It Should Be Available By Next Week & Will Definitely Update More! Previous Review: My Partner & Friends + Family We All Came Today For Soft Opening Of This New Location, I've Personally Never Been To The Other Locations But Glad I Was Able To Get Tickets For This Soft Opening Weekend. We Arrived & Helped At The Kiosk By A Very Nice Gentleman We Didn't Catch His Name But He Was Very Nice & Patient With Us We Were Amazed At The Many Selections From The Visual Menu. Then We Seated The Place Was Quite Clean Then Our Food Was Served By Jose Who Asked How We Enjoyed Our Meal While Thanking Us For Coming! The Soft Opening Offered Us A Free Meal & Drink Some Options Weren't Available Yet Like The Premium Sides & Entrees. We All Got Different Entrees To Try & Share As We Were Captivated By All The Options! We Will Most Definitely Be Back & Can't Wait To Try More!

This is a fast casual seafood restaurant! I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of everything we ordered. Though on the pricier end for your typical fast casual, the quality of food is worth the price. We ordered a rockfish platter, clam chowder, fish and chips, and kids fish and chips. The rockfish platter could have used more seasoning on the fish, but it was cooked perfectly. The kale salad is a must and balanced both dishes perfectly. Next time i would pass on the clam chowder. Service overall was very pleasant but a tad slow getting the orders out. I would recommend!

Thrilled to have a California Fish Grill In Kingstowne! Staff are still in training so please be patient. We have been here twice since they opened. Food is delicious and we will continue to frequent this place :) We enjoyed the lobster rolls (ask for extra "dirty butter"), clam chowder soup, fish and chips, breaded shrimp and brussel sprouts . The garlic parmesan bread was good too. Unfortunately, ours was room temp so we had to send it back but the restaurant was kind and made us a fresh order. The branzino and tilapia were okay. Nothing to rave about.

I Originally Came To This Shopping Center To Go To Baja Fresh, But Once I Arrived I Noticed This New Spot That Took Over The Space. I Checked Out The Menu Out Of Curiosity, Left, And Decided To Come Back Later To Actually Try It & I'm So Glad I Did. Located In A Shopping Center With Plenty Of Free Parking, Which Makes It Easy And Convenient. The Customer Service Here Is Top Tier, Seriously Amazing. Isabella Is Such A Sweet Person, Always Smiling Both Times I Came In. She Was Helpful With Suggestions & Just Has A Really Warm Personality & Spirit. The Manager Was Also Friendly And Helpful, Working Just As Hard As The Employees Which I Always Respect Seeing. The Team Here Really Makes The Experience Better. EVERYTHING PROTEIN BOWL - $12.99 This Bowl Comes With Salmon, Rockfish, Shrimp, And Chicken. I Opted Out Of The Chicken & Kept It All Seafood. For $12.99 This Is Honestly A Steal, It Also Comes With Pinto Beans, Tomatoes, Parsley, Salsa, & Rice. Everything Tastes Amazing & The Portion Is Very Filling. Next Time I'm Adding Avocado Since They Ran Out This Time. :( *I Added Cajun Butter, Which Elevated The Flavor Even More. The Combination Of Seafood And Seasoning Was Perfect. Between The Price & Taste, I'm Honestly Wondering Where This Spot Has Been All This Time. LOBSTER ROLL (À La Carte) - $13.95 The Dirty Butter Lobster Roll On A Soft Roll Was So Good. They Give A Nice Amount Of Lobster & The Buttery Flavor Paired With The Perfectly Cooked Lobster Was Delicious. Another Item That Feels Like A Steal For The Price, I'm Really Happy I Tried It. Their Soda Fountain Is One Of The Coolest I've Seen With Some Really Unique Flavors. Unique Soda Options Included: Pineapple Float, Agave Vanilla Cream, Black Cherry, Root Beer Plus Standard Drink Options Like: Pepsi, Pepsi Zero, Starry, Tropicana Lemonade, & Water They Also Have Teas Like Hibiscus Raspberry & Natural Black Tea. I Was A Little Hesitant Since Drinks Are Around $3+, But After Trying The Pineapple Cream, It Was Absolutely Worth It.... So Good. The Restaurant Is Very Clean, Spacious, & Organized. There Are Signs Everywhere Plus Digital Screens Where You Can Place Your Order, Which Is Pretty Nice. They Have A Huge Variety Of Options Including: Taco Tuesday Specials, Cocktails, Beer, Poke Bowls, Tacos, Seafood Plates, Salads, Rice Bowls, And Desserts. It Honestly Feels Like The Best Of All Worlds If You Love Seafood & Fresh Options. I'm Really Glad I Decided To Try This Spot. Great Prices, Delicious Food, Amazing Customer Service, & A Clean, Comfortable Environment. I'll Definitely Be Back Again Very Soon.

    Hard and dry

I really wanted to like California Fish Grill. The restaurant itself was super clean and the employees were very nice, which we appreciated. Honestly, the food even looked good at first... until we actually put our fork into it. We ordered cod, shrimp, dynamite fries, Brussels sprouts, and garlic bread. The dynamite fries had good flavor but were cold and soggy. The Brussels sprouts actually tasted great, but they were also cold. The cod was small, dry, and mostly batter, and the batter was hard and kind of mealy. The shrimp tasted like they came straight out of a bag, pre-battered. They were hard, dry, and cold too. Overall, everything tasted greasy and heavy, which isn't what you expect from a place that advertises fresh seafood. We were hoping it would be more like Slapfish, but it clearly missed the mark. Our meal came out to $36.34 and was barely edible. Sadly, this will be a never again for us.

The protein in the taco is well made and tender and comes on a single flour tortilla and a sauce and some veggies. It is missing the double corn tortilla, Cilantro and and sautéed onions I associate with a authentic Mexican street taco but still is very tasty just the same and definately not one of the Americanized abominations you see at so many restaurants (: . Chips and Salsa were quite good as well and they make a nice house Margarita that was reasonably priced (Thank you Happy Hour!) that is well made with a good 100% Blue Agave tequila. To be honest with you the Margarita's and Happy hour pricing is what brought us to this restaurant and we were definately not disappointed. the restaurant itself has a nice industrial vibe to it and does not have the colorful Mexican decor many of the restaurants do that I am used to in Michigan. Having said that it is still a very casual and comfortable environment that definately adds to the overall dining experience. Staff was quite friendly with good follow up and definately a strength of the business. Overall a very enjoyable dining experience with their own unique spin on what they call a street taco. Good food, Reasonable prices and good margaritas are hard to beat making this an excellent dining spot if Mexican food is your thing.

Our server was quick, friendly, and kept things moving without making us feel rushed. They actually have a true happy hour menu. Not one of those "$1 off" situations, but legit deals across both food and drinks. Everything we ordered hit. The margaritas were refreshing, well-balanced (not overly sweet), and definitely did the job. For food, we kept it classic. The tacos were simple but flavorful, with tender, well-seasoned meat and fresh toppings that didn't overpower anything. The nachos were good but in my opinion, the portion size wasn't worth $11. Everything tasted fresh and came out hot, which I always appreciate, especially during a busy service. The vibe outside really pulled it all together. It's one of those spots that feels lively without being chaotic...perfect for catching up, people-watching, or just unwinding after a long day. We were greeted and seated immediately when we arrived. There were maybe 3 or 4 tables total occupied during our visit so not too busy on a Sunday afternoon. There is outdoor seating as well. Our server, who was very friendly, hyped the premium margarita so we gave in and said yes. We also tried the passionfruit margarita. The premium was strong but that's probably what you're going for anyway The passionfruit margarita was delicious but not strong at all. We tried the chips and dip and the Platanos Fritos (plantains with sour cream) to start. Chips were fresh and hot. Salsa was a bit creamy. Never had it like this before but the taste was pretty good. Plantains were perfect! While we didn't order the Guac ( Guacamole Molcajete) , it was brought to our table. We found it to be on the bland side with no hints of cilantro, onion, lime or salt. We saw a few bits of tomato but it tasted just like a plain smashed avocado. Not something we would order again. We decided to try all the street tacos except the vegetarian so we could taste everything. Steak, chicken, fish, shrimp, ground beef, pork (al pastor), carnitas. We also got the 3 street taco platter that came with the Mexican rice and beans. We found the shrimp and fish tacos to be lacking in the quantity of meat. But they were flavorful. The chicken, while plentiful, was dry even with the sauce. The steak, al pastor and carnitas were all packed with meat and delicious but both our Al Pastor tacos were missing the pineapple. The ground beef was my personal favorite but was very greasy. The Mexican rice and pinto beans....Both were just ok. Overall, food was ok we were expecting a bit more flavor. Service was great. Pricing was a bit higher than what we usually pay for a similar order.
