Black Friday dining: Food Good- The fish was crispy and tasted great, and kale slaw tasted fresh and delicious, so I gave them 3 generous stars. First of all, you order and pay in a kiosk. You can have your receipt emailed, but when my husband went to ask him for a cup they treated him like a criminal and wanted the email receipt. Made a HUGE mistake while walking our trays full of food back to our table. I accidentally spilled both trays on the floor when trying to place them on the table, making the biggest loudest mess! From the name and look of it outside, you'd think this place was a little fancy seafood restaurant. At least that's what I always thought. Finally decided to give this place a try after only how many years later. I'm so glad I did. Ordered a power protein salmon bowl with kale, a bowl of clam chowder, and a guava kombucha. It was the best $20+ I spent. The salad came with a good portion of salmon and flavorful sauce and the clam chowder was surprisingly authentic tasting. Been to this location twice. The first time, had lunch with friends. All agreed food (we all got fish combos) was tasty and fresh. Yesterday, went and got large sides, beans, rice, and spicy corn. I'm trying to cut down on meats since dad got colon cancer. (The HealthyImmuneDoc also said beans are very nutritious) They were all very tasty, so I didn't feel deprived. Once upon a time, I really enjoyed this place. Now with the self ordering only option that doesn't allow you to do any substitutions, no requesting additional anything either, it's a real bummer. Apparently someone still has to 'man' the self ordering so they can give you your drinks, but at last no one was there when we ordered and I had to track down someone willing to talk to me to get help with our drinks. I waited patiently for our food, watching others come and go with their orders, I can be understanding... but eventually I noticed three of our four plates sitting under warmers. Apparently the fish tacos take an extraordinarily long time to make compared to the other food since the three plates were there at least ten minutes, since I noticed them. We got our food eventually, and it was okay, the zucchini was shockingly bitter though. The tacos were okay, along with my fish were large chunks of cabbage, and three sad pieces of red onion (that were recently tossed in vinegar, I wouldn't quite call them pickled yet)... I did however chuckle when I noticed that they cut my piece of fish in half, so as to avoid giving me one whole piece of fish in my taco... genuinely disappointed. Staff was lack luster... just ignored customers trying to wave them down, I helped a few people while I waited for my food... seemed like I needed to do something to pass the time. Oh yeah, did I mention that the staff did absolutely NOTHING about someone having their (non service animal) dog sit at the dining room table-on the bench with them while they ate, inside. An unusual Grilled Shrimp Louie Salad with classic Louie Dressing included warm shrimps (I much prefer cold) and cut asparagus but contained no hard-boiled egg, which is an essential component of a Louie Salad to me. Food portions were large, and service very good and responsive. Ordering is done at a counter, and completed orders are picked up at a centrally located station when the appropriate hand-carried disc-shaped beeper lights up and quietly sounds off. A manager circulated around the indoor dining room, repeatedly asking if anything was needed, and quickly supplying requested items like to-go containers if they were requested. It seems like strong emphasis is placed on serving healthful food and drink here. I appreciated a self-serve choice of Black Herbal Iced Tea or Hibiscus Raspberry Herbal Iced Tea. If you have any trouble or questions though there was a person walking around asking if you needed assistance. Okay it was our first time there- and not too sure what to get. I got shrimp and fish with a green side salad and lime vinaigrette. My order also came with fries. The fries were very tasty! And there was too much red onion and some of the lettuce was wilted but the dressing was really good. My husband got fish and chips. He liked it, just commented on how he wished we got something healthier lol. The side kale slaw is really tasty. The portions were perfect, I mean too much for me but for the amount you pay it's worth. And btw not too pricey at all. I believe it was under $40 for my family of 4 (two toddlers) We got one kids meal for my two toddlers to share and it was more than enough. If you have really young ones (mine are 3 and 5) you only need one kids order. I'd like to try another entree salad on the menu next time or something healthier lol. Went for lunch around 12:30 on Sunday. Was busy but not crazy. There were four of us. Each of us placed our order with the girl at the register. She was polite. It seemed to take quite some time for our order. Our alert never went off. Went to check on our order and it was done. Orders were 2 piece fish and chips chickens sandwich swai platter and ahi platter. I received sword fish instead of the ahi I had ordered. Rather then wait another twenty minutes I accepted it. I'm a regular at Rubios and I have to say, this place is much better! I love their California bowls. The seafood is perfectly seasoned, and sometimes kind of spicy (which I enjoy). The shrimp here is ALWAYS fresh (or not fishy at least). The price is about the same as Rubios but the portions are bigger!! I definitely prefer this over Rubios. Ordering to-go was easy and service on that end was professional. I chose the chimichurri barramundi, with a double side of kaleslaw. It was advertised for $13.99 which I thought was a good price. I was given a little buzzer with my receipt and told to have a nice day. I waited about ten minutes and the buzzer went off. I had walked around a bit, so it took me maybe a minute and a half to show up at the pick up counter. I stood under the "Pick Up" sign and waited. I was the only one there, waiting. There was a kid standing doing almost nothing about ten feet away from me. He did not acknowledge me but instead decided to buzz my buzzer again, and at that moment I said, "I'm right here". He remained mute but pointed to a spot right in front of him, so I walked to him and he put a bag of food on the counter between us. I took it, left the buzzer there, and left without a word between us. I would not recommend ordering to-go here if this is how their employees normally provide service. I always tip at least 10% for a pick up order, just as a courtesy to the person who puts my little order together and hands it to me. But what did I tip for this time? I would have appreciated some courtesy, diligence, and a sense of urgency instead of being ignored, not spoken to, not thanked, just handed a bag of food that could have been anyone's. I hardly make a living at my job, so I am picky about where I'll spend my money. It definitely will not be going to any such place that can't provide common courtesy or basic customer service.
