Inside is nice and roomy and service was for the most part good until the end they began to take a bit longer as the people started coming in. I ordered an avocado toast, but unfortunately did not get my item at the same time as everyone else. By the time I did, my party was almost done with their food. We ordered smoked salmon toast appetizer, mussels, steak & frite, pasta, and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. The stand out's were their mussels, smoked salmon toast, and dessert. The pairing of smoked salmon over a buttery spread, on top of perfectly crunchy toast was so good! Mussels were perfectly seasoned and big in size. And also, their flourless chocolate cake .. WOW. Do save room for their dessert! One more thing to mention is that they have a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks including mimosa, champagne, and mocktails. Came here for a nice solo date after seeing a show.. and just ended with a poor experience. Upon arrival the host was welcoming. He asked if bar seating was okay and I said yes, however I was seated by the POS which is my least favorite seating but even with the constant waiter traffic, it wasn't too bothersome. I ordered the grilled salmon and the flourless chocolate cake. Both were delicious! HOWEVER, the ratatouille was a pile of slimey gooey mush siting on top of the bed of rice, under the salmon. I tried to eat it, but it just was so off putting I couldn't stomach it and pushed it to the side. Now, the real issue was my bar tender / server. After placing my order (I ordered my entree and dessert at the same time, no drinks), he NEVER came back to me. No one asked how I was doing, if everything was okay, etc. I was there long enough for at least one check in. He walked passed twice I believe, but no eye contact lol. I've never experienced that. I had to ask someone else for my check. I asked the person if I could pay via the inKind app, he said yes, gave me my check number and told me how.. but it looks like they still charged my card! So I'm hoping the pending transaction will be dismissed. Either don't sit at the bar here, or just don't come at all. read more

An intimate little French cafe where I enjoyed a nice anniversary dinner. It looks like its part coffee shop, part restaurant, part old-school LA bar, but tonight it was rather hot inside as we're in a bit of a heatwave. That didn't stop us from ordering the steamy provincial short ribs, cooked perfectly and paired with a delicious and crispy potato gratin. These were incredibly tender and savory. The Japanese sweet potato might have been even better though. Not particularly large but packed with flavor. A little yogurt adds even more sweetness. The Brussels sprouts were admittedly not my favorite. A bit too thick for me, which kept them from getting crispy. The pistachio flavor profile isn't really my favorite either. I ordered the Blueberry Pancakes, and they were perfect -- not overly sweet and had a very healthy version of pancakes, wholesome flavor, which I really appreciated. I've recently stopped drinking soda and sugary snacks for my health and have been exercising daily to manage my blood sugar, so it was great to enjoy pancakes that felt light and healthy. My Mom had the Avocado Toast with a Decaf Americano, and I also ordered a Decaf Americano -- it was very good. This restaurant is conveniently located right next to The United Theater on Broadway in Downtown Los Angeles and provides the perfect ambiance for a pre-show meal. There is cozy seating inside and high top tables outside, which is where I dined. The service was unexpectedly fast, as I got quickly seated within five minutes of speaking with the front of house. I tried the delicious red pepper hummus and cheese dip, which came with delightfully toasted bread. I moved on to the seared cod, which came on a delish carrot based purée and also tried the mushroom pasta (which I added grilled shrimp too). The food came out pretty quickly and tasted phenomenal, each plate with a whirlwind of flavor. I'm very glad everything worked out timing-wise, as dinner did not take long at all before having plenty of time to make it to the comedy show just next door. I went to Zinqué few times now and always have a great time with friends. Their Le Breakfast Bowl is my go-to for lunch because its packed with veggies and just delicious! The bowl includes egg, quinoa, avocado, garbanzo beans, roasted cherry tomatoes, ninja radish, mixed greens, burrata, and is topped with miso-tahini dressing. I've tried their lattes here before as well and can't get enough of their iced Hazelnut Latte. It's perfectly sweet and packs the mid-day caffeine fix for me. A noteworthy fun dish I've had here is their Pork Belly Taco. It's a big-sized taco that is rich and packed with cubes of pork belly, and topped with carrots and cilantro for the perfect bite. I had one of these tacos and was full and satisfied. Everyone is very nice here and happy to get what you need. You pay at the counter first or you can sit at the table and order via the QR code. Coffee was the best thing I had. I walked in and sat and waited for over 15 min before I had to personally get up and flag my waiter. I had to ask for water. No one checked in on us ever. It would be a great place for a dinner date or to grab some drinks. A place like this with a big bar will likely have some good cocktails. I'm not sure if they were short staffed that particular saturday morning but it was really slow for only a few patrons being in the restaurant. It looked like they were still setting up and getting the bar ready. Most restaurants and bars take care of a majority of the setup before they open, this place clearly did not so getting there right when they open might not be the best time. Street parking might be difficult at times and the area is a bit seedy but there are paid lots in the area, I always try to look for street parking which was meters in that area. There were so many incredible options it was hard to choose, made even better by our waiter Ryan, who was incredibly sweet, informative, patient, and and generally lovely. The appetizers were a humus and red pepper feta with focaccia that was delicious, deep fried artichokes with a tangy sauce and a salmon tartare with avocado. For the entrees my wife got steak frites with a chimnichurri sauce, she asked medium well but it came medium (my preference), it was tasty but not what she asked. I ordered the sea bass that was on a carrot purée, brusseel sprouts, cooked delicately with some spice to it. Dessert were a strawberry and shortbread pieces and the other was a chocolate mousse. We came mainly out of convenience, but they ended up impressing us with great food and service. We were up quite early so there were no crowds and we were able to get seated right away. The place is impressively large with a pleasant modern feel, but it can get filled up, especially later in the day. We'd walked by it the night before and it had looked pretty busy. They offer a lot of (but not overwhelming number) items on their menu. We were glad to see a good amount of vegetarian options. I got a coffee and the smoked salmon toast and the hubby got the breakfast bowl. We were both very impressed with the quality of the food, and thought the friendly, attentive service was great as well. We also thought the prices were reasonable for the quality. Had some friends in town the other weekend, and the wanted to have brunch on a Sunday prior to driving back to San Diego. They were staying in downtown, so we decided to give Zinque a try seeing as we had never been there for some reason. We had a reservation, so we were seated right away on the patio. Our sever was on top of everything, with recommendations and drinks. So we ordered pretty quickly, as everyone had an idea of what they wanted to eat. How was the food? Well, I personally got the bacon and crispy potatoes burrito. Presentation was kind of lacking, and flavor wise, it just did not stand out in any way. The potatoes could have been crispier, giving it that texture element to contrast the avocado, while the spinach felt a little wet. It came with salsa and was really needed to give it a little more punch of flavor that was lacking. The banana buckwheat pancakes had a nice caramelization on the bananas, but the pancakes themselves did not necessarily stand out. They were decent but they were pancakes that you wouldn't differentiate from other buckwheat pancakes from another establishment. The soft scramble was decent, eggs were cooked well and the herbs and parmesan were a nice touch for flavor. Finally, le breakfast bowl had a lot going on with it but was a nice meal on the healthier side. Overall, left Zinque feeling like it should have been better than it was, While there were some decent dishes like the soft scramble, things like the breakfast burrito were really a let down. And with so many places in DTLA you can go to for brunch, Zinque did not necessarily make me feel I needed to come back nor recommend others try it out. read more

Visited around 3:30pm on Valentine's Day. During the day, it was more of a bar vibe. Don't expect any services, you order your own food, from the barcode and they bring out your food. The food is a 3/5 only because it was not hot and instead of a medium-rare steak we got rare or blue instead. Had to send it back and it came back out medium and dried. The presentation 4/5. If I had to give a recommendation, the burger is a solid choice. The steak frites is an alright choice, but nothing stood out for us. The burrata board is my favorite dish on the menu. The Food: I ordered LeBowl (with Chicken) and it was delicious. The combination of flavors and around in your mouth. The portion size initially looks like it will not be enough, but I couldn't even finish it and I'm eating for 2. I also ordered the Brussel Sprouts which sounded soooo yummy, but they were a bit of a disappointment. The basalmic that they used was probably not a reduction and it over powered any other flavors that were meant to shine. I just personally think they were maybe rushing and put too much. it also made the Sprouts super soggy. They may want to rethink the ingredients on this one. Parking: This place was super close to our hotel, so we walked there, but there appeared to be a paid parking lot near by. Not sure if it has 24 hour or any security.
