You can never go wrong with California taco. This location has the friendliness staff and there service is quick. I get the steak tacos (soft) regular with passion fruit juice and it never fails. I usually do take out but they do have tables and chairs if you want to eat inside. read more

Cali Taco is my go-to spot for cheap, quick and authentic tacos. I love both of their locations equally because they're both very consistent and good. They do a damn good fish taco with homemade spicy tartar sauce and fresh fried fish. I also love their tacos al pastor and with carne asada. The meats they use are of super good quality for what you pay. $1 and $2 tacos.... why would you ever go to Taco Bell ever again? The 2 taco combo is like $7 and comes with rice and beans. It's a perfect lunch. They also carry Jarritos sodas. What else are you supposed to drink with tacos? It looks like there's another location opening soon on Manton Ave right near the Johnston line.... right near my house! Can't wait! read more

I did not expect actual California-style tacos when I came here. I was really pleasantly surprised. The tacos are a little dry and basic, so I've left them one star's room to become even better. But in Providence? It's hard to do better than CA taco shop. And they're cheap, too -- cheaper than California. I love spice, but I recommend the green salsa, the red salsa is kinda boring by comparison. read more

Here's the thing. The food here is pretty good and if this review were based on food alone I would have given California taco 4 stars. However, the fact that on multiple occasions they fail to follow basic directions I'm forced to give this place 3 stars. I HATE onions so when I order the $1.50 tacos I ask them to PLEASE not add any onions or cilantro to the tacos. I even make sure I ask for this in Spanish as to avoid any miscommunication. Simple enough right? Wrong! On at least 3 occasions I've ordered food, picked it up and when I get home all the tacos have a ton of onions and cilantro on it. Ruins my meal. If you dine in I'm sure this problem would be easily remedied by sending the food back and having them prepare it correctly. I'm really not one to complain about my food (I know better) but when simple directions can't be followed it's frustrating. Do yourself a favor, if you order take out check all of your food as to assure it was made the way you asked for it. read more

I much prefer the location further down Manton to this location, but the other is not open as late. It is the same food but prepared by someone else. Consequently, I found the chicken to be much too salty and the service a bit lacking, if not rude. I'll keep going to the other location, but if a late night craving ensues, I won't hesitate to come here. They do have ample seating and a generally nice atmosphere here. read more

Oh, California Taco. I give it three stars because it truly is A-OK. The food's alright... I mean, compared to other restaurants at the same price point, it comes out more quickly, but doesn't taste as great. But it's still good! It's just fine! It's A-OK, and that's good enough for me. California Taco was one of my favorite spots to go to during grad school, because it was quick, it was local, and there was always a place to sit. The service is okay. The people who work there are typically pleasant. The ambiance is rather weird. It looks like a four year-old picked the colors from an 8-piece crayon set. Or perhaps like SpongeBob decorated the restaurant. Despite being colored in the hues of a daycare, it's really rather comfortable. It's not jarring at all. It's festive, it's fun, it's California Taco Shop! Did I mention that my apartment senior year was the exact same colors, and that me and my roommates picked them? We LOVED it. And we love California Taco. By the way... one mug of their coffee will wake you up. I suspect it's Cafe Bustelo. Not knocking it. I love Cafe Bustelo. No stars is more like it ... my husband and I walked in on a Friday evening and ordered 2 tacos from the counter. There were only three other people in the place. Two young guys at a table, and a lone girl, apparently sleeping at another table. We had been sitting about 15 minutes when the server finally appeared only to bring the boys their sodas. We waited another 15 minutes waiting for the server to make another appearance. Girl still sleeping. Finally, we could take it no longer, hungry we walked to the kitchen to ask what was going on ... the server and cook appeared and said it would be just a little while longer, as they were very busy tonight! I ordered 2 chorizo tacos a burrito and two chorizo tortas. The meat wasn't cooked all the way and it was white as if it was old meat the sour cream tasted expired. The steak for the burrito was mostly green and red peppers old sour cream and no flavor. Just in general the food tasted as if all ingredients were old or cooked in old oil either way I did not like it one bit and it's my favorite restaurant. (Maybe not this one in particular) read more

The shrimp and chicken tacos here are delicious but the beef wasn't my favorite it was a little to fatty in my opinion but overall the food is great here. (This place doesn't even deserve that one star. I just had to give a rating to post. I really give it zero stars.) This place is HORRIBLE. The people working here could never get an order correct so if you plan on going here, plan to repeat yourself about a dozen times or order something even a monkey could understand making. During my last--and final--visit, I ordered a veggie burrito combo (no cheese or sour cream). I do not eat meat or dairy. The salad was STALE. The lettuce tasted like FISH. The tomatoes were close to ROTTING. There was cheese in my beans, which was something I was willing to let slide. I split the burrito with my boyfriend, who also does not eat meat, and towards the end, I noticed there were pieces of chicken in the burrito. When I asked for my money back, they refused to refund it and told me and my boyfriend that we were "illogical" for eating the food and letting their previous mistakes with our orders slide. Just to be clear, I did not touch the salad after the first bite. We left the beans alone. And we stopped eating the veggie burrito when we noticed the chicken. They said we had eaten too much of the food, and they could not refund us despite all of their mistakes. I guess being THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED does not count for receiving a refund here either. *shrug* All in all, if you ever plan on eating bland, close-to-rotting food made by rude, incompetent people who know nothing about working in a professional environment, this is the place you want to go to! read more

Best tacos I've had in a while. Sometimes going to taco bell to get my fix doesn't always cut it but it was almost good as my mother made them.
