The front desk staff, bartenders, and maid staff were all so friendly and helpful. Check in is a breeze and the rooms are impeccable. There is also a fresh breakfast bar every morning (and a chef that makes omelets and eggs to your liking)! The pool is situated with a great view and has an actual Swedish sauna right there for a quick steam (with water rocks and everything). I could go on and on about how amazing everything is, but the view of the bridge alone is worth the stay. Come stay here to see for yourself!

TL/DR: crisp, minimalist rooms and amenities with nice, funky, particulars, combined with another outpost of the Broder empire, make this an ideally located, charming, basic place to crash, and our favorite in Astoria. In a very European fashion, the Commodore provides stripped, minimalist rooms, (with some of the best pillows I can recall in a hotel) with excellent social accommodations and a level of charm you won't find in any corporate hotel. Are the hours a little wonky? Yeah. But I had no problem navigating the late check-in, since they contact you and ask if that's what you'll need. There could be more amenities, but this used to be aimed at the digital-nomad-cum-wanderer younger crowd as a part of the defunct Selina organization. Don't know how much of the previous special stuff remains (checking out a projector and having movies in the lobby was awesome) but I will always have a soft spot for this place. Maybe that's because I've never been pampered and never expect to be. The new ownership has opened the restaurant, Broder Strand, with all of the Scandinavian treats, like the Classic 2 egg I had. Edit: So I've been clued in to the ownership saga of the Commodore. It was owned by the Selina Group when I wrote my first review, then when they went under, it was purchased by the person in charge f the Broder (galactic) empire, but has changed hands again. There are differences, and not many of them are good. There appears to be a general erosion in some of the "little things" like what is stocked in the "honor bar" or whatever it is called. Once there was a good variety, now its just granola bars and half-liter Mexican Cokes. The attentiveness to detail (like refilling the extra towel/robe shelf outside the shared shower rooms never happening) and a missing ceiling lamp globe in the shower room, make me think that the folks who currently own it are not quite hoteliers at heart. I took a star off because of that. They have fixed the wifi, so that's nice, and the access to the Broder Strand in the mornings (and Stranded bar in the evenings) makes it a better place, but that is someone else's labor. They really should do more cross-promotion to reinforce the bond because as it stands, I recommend the restaurant more than the hotel. In the interim, between Selina and now, a manager tried to compensate for all of the fallout from Selina's collapse and the broken reservations and lost trust that came with it. Rooms were all freshly painted, new linens and ceiling fans, tightening up some loose spots. A lot of that ground seems to have been lost and the reviews reflect that. That said, the bones are still strong. A quirky joint in a quirky town. We will always come back here. Until we retire here, that is!

The setting has a classic feel, with antique details like the steel radiator and retro windows. The room is small but clean and full of character. At $350 for two nights, it feels a bit expensive, but it offers a unique experience. There is a shared men's and women's bathroom on each floor, along with two showers. There is no A/C--just a fan in the room. We also noticed a fairly strong dog smell inside the elevator and in the bedroom, even though we like dogs. I was initially worried about noise from upstairs with a family of four (including two kids), but that hasn't been an issue. Most of the noise came from the bar across the street, where groups were loud late into the night. I used the complimentary earplugs for the first time in years of staying at hotels, and they were helpful. I could still hear the noise, and it continued until after 3:10 a.m., when the conversations outside the bar finally died down. On the bright side, the manager and staff are friendly and professional. If you're looking for a historic, classic stay, this is a distinctive option--just be aware of the shared facilities, the pet odor, and the potential for street noise.

It's surprisingly hard to find hotels that are this pet-friendly, so that was a huge plus! The building itself is beautiful, but the real highlight is booking a room facing the river. Waking up to views of the Astoria Bridge from your private patio with a cup of coffee was luxurious! We could even hear the sea lions in the distance, which made the whole experience feel peaceful and so unique. The outdoor saunas were an amazing touch and the heated floors throughout the room, made our stay extra cozy, especially if you're visiting during Oregon's colder months! They've got you covered. Within walking distance to so many restaurants and downtown Astoria, if you're planning a trip here, I can't recommend the Bowline Hotel enough. It's relaxing, romantic, pet-friendly, and the perfect place to unwind.

When the trolley is running, this could be very accessible for those that don't like parallel parking and/or want to imbibe in one or more of the local breweries, distillery or cocktail bars in town.

Sure, it's fine if you brought your PC and an HDMI cable, but if you didn't you're stuck watching whatever's on cable, commercials and all. There's a "cast to tv" feature that didn't work either. Still, the room was very comfortable otherwise.

Although the kitchen range is not to be used for actual cooking, we were told it is fine for reheating, and found it perfect for our biscuits, quiche and ...chocolate chip cookies! Though a bit on the pricey side, we found walking to the Astoria Co-op wonderful for breakfast foods (and ice cream). The apartment was nicely cleaned, and the simple decor was perfect! We also enjoyed the little snacks in the fridge. Please note that the spacious, modern with historical ambiance apartment, in an incredibly gorgeous and convenient location more than makes up for the inconveniences discussed below. But I am including them in hopes the Norblad wants to perfect the experience, and also so guests might be aware. 1. While the gorgeous, huge windows lining two sides of this apartment provided lots of light and views, they do not stay up, and when we arrived in mid-July, all the blinds & curtains were left open and the afternoon sun had baked the 7th floor apartment. With creative engineering to keep the windows up, little air came into the bedroom and sleeping was made even more difficult due to the street noise. Availability of a window box fan instead of the floor tower fan which barely moves air would have helped immensely! Between closing all the drapes/blinds before heading out for the next day's adventures which kept the apartment cooler, and placing the small, round (dusty) fan we borrowed from the Norblad in front of the one bedroom window we propped open with a book, sleeping was improved due to the cool night airflow and the fan's white noise masking the street sounds. The bedding was quite comfortable, but the mattress was quite soft. And while the towels were also very soft, they were barely absorbent. (If the hotel uses fabric softener for towels, I'd suggest stopping as it is counterproductive to absorbency.) 2. Concerning Trash & Recycling, info about what can be recycled, and where to put our T/R would have been helpful instead of letting our can get full for the cleaning staff to dump. 3. Please consider installing a wall hung coat rack as there is no closet available near the entry. I imagine that on rainy days, hangin wet jackets would especially be appreciated. 3. Maintenance overdue: * The freezer is due for defrosting. Heavy ice buildup put strain on appliances. * The bathroom sink does not drain properly. * The toilet paper holder is missing from the wall, presumably where the two large holes in the drywall remain. (If not already done, perhaps the cleaning staff could be tasked with or reminded to let maintenance know when things need attention.) We really had a wonderful time in the Astor Building and look forward to a staying again next time! It is such a charming and convenient location!!!

It has tall ceilings and large windows with breathtaking views of Astoria and the Columbia River. There is a fully equipped kitchen with an island, minus the oven. The upstairs area is a comfy sitting area which hubby used for reading. The perfect place you wanted to call home when you're away from home. Rafael was the perfect host. He greeted us upon arrival and showed us around the property. Every morning he prepared delicious hot breakfast and coffee for us. The refrigerator was fully stocked with water, juice and beer. There was even sparkling wine if you wanted to make mimosas in the morning. The bathroom had a towel rack that can warm/dry your towels before and after shower, which I absolutely loved. Who doesn't like a warm towel after shower? It's a 5-star bed and breakfast because every little detail was put into this place and I can't wait to come back and stay with Rafael the next time I'm in Astoria!

This is one of the best places to go to for a sweet staycation close to Portland. Astoria has a lot of great restaurants and a fantastic Farmer's Market on weekends. I really like staying here when I have the opportunity. It's one of the best local IHG hotels in Oregon. I have used my free IHG anniversary night credit card night here when I want a nice stay close to me. Summer rates are typically expensive, so book on other seasons.

It was also super overpriced for what you are getting. We also think we just had inflated prices be Ashe we stayed there during 4th of July weekend. It's just dingy and not very well kept.
