This is a hard one to review. We got here 15 min before they opened since we didn't have a reservation and gambled we could possibly get one of their open tables. While waiting for them to open the line quickly grew to 30 people in just 10 min. This place is wildly popular. I had friends in town from Arizona, LA and NY. They were super excited to try this place out. Since we were first in line they put us 1st on the waitlist and said it would be 30 min. We sat at the bar and all ordered drinks. Dirty martinis (Ketel One $22.00 ea), a specialty drink (Kentucky Crest $18.00) and a local beer on tap ($6). The bartender was great. Very friendly, personal and informative about the restaurant. We asked her for recommendations and she was very helpful. We ordered the most popular dishes. Crudo ($22.00), oysters (4 Dysters Grilled Oysters $22.00), the roasted broccoli (Broccoli $18.00), the Cavatelli ($34.00) and the Octopus ($31.00). Soon after we were informed our table was ready. The actual restaurant has a great vibe. Love the decor. All the servers who greeted us and ran our food were wonderful. My only complaint is... these are hardly "shareable" dishes. The portions are tiny. The prices are inflated. We barely got a bite sized portion of 4 of the 5 dishes. We then ordered 3 desserts to share which was challenging as well. Campfire was a great experience! It was a packed night so I am glad we made a reservation well in advance. The atmosphere was so unique and I loved all the nods to camping like the water pitchers, menu items, etc. The servers were great with good descriptions and recommendations. Very attentive. Campfire is an awesome restaurant centered around the essence of enjoying food that comes from the soul/spirit of sitting around a camp fire. Before I get into anything else, this was one of my top restaurant experiences ever (thus far). The theming is fantastic. The details in the table set up, the wooden architect, and even the Yeti water thermos makes it truly feel like I'm in the outdoors. The service was A+. Every aspect of it, from entry, to ordering, to receiving dishes, to getting water refills, to getting the check was so thoughtfully performed. It truly made me want to come back. The food was on another level. For starters, I tried the olives. The olives are an acquired taste - it was very salty and had an intense smoky scent. I paired that with the more plan porridge bread that came with charcoal butter. The rye wheat bread rolls were rustic and surprisingly very delicious. Get the roasted broccoli!! They fry and roast the whole broccoli head, cut it into pieces, assemble it whole on top of a bed of sauce. It's quite greasy and not your typical healthy broccoli, but it's the best tasting broccoli I've had at any restaurant. The cavatelli pasta is another must try. The pasta is house made. The tomato sauce was creamy and bright, and paired nicely with each bite of the pasta with crab meat. The garnish added earthiness to the bites. Everything about it was perfect. To end the meal, I had the s'mores. They let you roast the marshmallows on top of a bed of hot charcoal in a mini cast iron. The sugar cookie, chocolate, and marshmallow combination was tasty. Classy feeling upscale sort of restaurant in the middle of the downtown Carlsbad strip. The hostess and waitstaff are friendly and helpful. Multiple check in how how's the food and constantly filled water glasses. The most unique and highly recommended dish was the $18 broccoli head. I think they said they broiled it then flash fried it. The lime sauce is plentiful and helps balance the slight bitterness of the charred broccoli. It essentially comes out black and resembles vegetables in looks but on second thought probably not healthy. Just a word of warning for small parties ordering this dish. Totally tasty in small portions and probably great for sharing. But eating more than half of a broccoli head, you'll really start to notice the texture and taste is not quite the same level of excitement. Probably perfect for 4 people sharing. The fish dish was delicious, smoked butter corn sauce was rich and added a nice balance. Almost a 5, but the Broccoli both brought the rating up, then back down. read more

We've been wanting to dine here for years and finally made it happen. Great experience overall from the service to food quality and ambiance. Started with the cornbread and prawns. Moved on to the Beets, Carrots and Pork Belly as sides next to the Chicken as the main. Everything was delicious, flavors all worked well together and had a hint of char or smoke. Beet salad was a highlight for me with the pickled golden beets and charred red beets. Finished with a vinaigrette which added a nice acidity. Chicken was perfectly cooked and had a great smoke flavor. Our server Kennedy was great and the support staff was attentive as well. I can not say enough about how good Campfire was! Come to campfire hungry so you can try a little bit of everything you will walk out the right amount of full! We came in during their winter menu and had Hannah as our incredible waitress! She provided ample options for some of her favorite meals, and great mixes and matches for sides and cocktails! We ended up starting with the cornbread with the candied poblano peppers in it and cilantro, butter, and oh my gosh, it was mouthwatering. The bread was still warm out of the oven and the butter was melting into the cornbread. It was so good! The pepper and the cornbread was not too spicy so don't be deterred by that you might get a little bit of heat, but the sweetness helped even it out. We also had the beats, the charred, broccoli, and the pork belly. I could've had two orders of the broccoli and been so happy, but the pork belly was incredible, and the beats were such a great palette cleanser. We finished off with the pork with the casting potatoes, which was such a great combo. The pork was perfectly cooked and had an incredible almost curry, flavored lentils under it with sweet potato and cucumber. It was an incredible amalgamation of flavors. When you're at campfire, you can't miss out on the individual s'mores. It was like having a snickerdoodle s'more with incredible chocolate salted ganache... I wish I could have five more. read more

Campfire is one of my absolute favorite spots in Carlsbad, and I've been here more times than I can count. This visit was to celebrate a friend's birthday, and as always, it was top-notch. We split everything, and every single dish was outstanding--the blueberry cornbread, pork belly, broccoli, sea bass, ribeye, and roasted potatoes. My friends had the Kentucky Crest while I went with the Tuscan Night, and both cocktails were excellent. On top of the food and drinks, the service here is always incredible. Everyone really caters to you and treats you like a guest. Water glasses never go empty, the whole staff is polite and accommodating, and when they bring your dishes out they actually describe them to you, which makes the whole experience feel elevated. I was on a road trip and we had no food to snack on where we were staying our last night, so we decided to venture out to something farm to table inspired after my mom said she wanted that felt like California cuisine. This was the spot that popped up. Now word of warning if you don't want to wait forever make a reservation, especially of you want to sit outside. My mom thought she had, but she must not have finished putting it through, so we got to wander around for over an hour and still had to sit inside or wait longer. If you have a kid with you, or if you have trouble hearing I recommend outside. Its quieter and had a fire pit, tent and more room to move around. The restaurant is open though to the outdoors so you do get the lovely fresh air inside at least. If you enjoy watching chefs do their thing inside might be for you, as they have them on display making magic happen on a plate. The menu being farm to table is seasonal, however they do seem to have some staples that linger. They have a mocktail menu as well, which was appreciated. They even have a kids menu. Our server was super accommodating and knowledgeable of their menu, taking their time to answer any questions. We ordered their yellow fin crudo, cornbread, pork belly, ricotta cavetelli, and fish of the day. For a drink I got the Apri ski. The crudo was so fresh and the flavors supporting it reminded me of a play on Tom ka soup. The corn bread had blueberries, rosemary, and had this smokey flavor. It was one of the best corn breads I've had. So moist to which was great because dry corn bread is like eating dust. The fat on the pork belly was rendered perfectly. Amazing melt in your mouth tender paired with a creamy pure and a play on a pesto. My mom's fish was perfectly cooked basically plated on top of a fancy version of tartar sauce. The pasta was my least favorite. It was a little gummy for me, and didn't give me all the nuances that the other dishes blew me away with. My beverage was balanced and refreshing. I loved the mix of herbal and citrus notes. I called my boyfriend that night and informed him when he comes to this area with me that we have to go here. Finally got to try Campfire which has been on my bucket list for a while! I came here with my partner for my birthday, and it was a fabulous dinner. When we walked into the restaurant, you could immediately smell some vegetable cooking with a lovely smell. At first I thought it smelled like brussel sprouts, but then I realized of course it is the broccoli. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees, and with the dessert at the end, and we were way too stuffed by the end. We probably could have done 1 app, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert, but we don't mind taking home leftovers. Broccoli - 10/10 - This is the star of the restaurant, and for good reason! Everyone raves about the broccoli, and you might wonder what's so good about some broccoli? But this was, by far, my favorite dish of the night. It was flavored and seasoned so well! Great texture. Please don't ever take this dish off the menu!! (Btw the server told us the chef changes up the menu every now and then). Pork Belly - 9/10 - We ordered this on recommendation from the server, and it was so soft, so flavorful Cavatelli - 8/10 - My partner loves seafood, so this past was great for him. Market Fish - 7/19 - I debated between the fish vs the pork, and ended up choosing the fish because it was really hot that day, and I wanted something a little lighter. The fish was a good choice. Smores - 8/10 - By the end of our meal, we were so stuffed, I don't think I could have done dessert. But you have to have smores at campfire!! It's part of the experience! So we reluctantly ordered the smores even though we were so full. It was so delicious, the smores are not your average smores. You can roast the smores at your table, and yes the marshmallow can still catch on fire if you're not careful. PARKING When trying to figure out where to park, I read a bunch of reviews and got a lot of mixed signals. Some people said it's impossible to find parking in this area, and others said there was plenty of parking. Turns out, there's a huge parking lot BEHIND Campfire that is shared with the transit station. So yes if you try to park on the street in from of Campfire, you're gonna have a bad time. But if you park right behind Campfire, there's plenty of space. And it's possible to access Campfire from the back, so you don't need to walk around the entire block to get to the front. We got seated at the heated patio which was pretty nice. Service was good and pretty attentive. I like that they put a tray of serving utensils at your table so you never have to keep asking for it. Food came out relatively quick. The blood orange cornbread was interesting. Oyster, tomato salad and the broccoli are all must order! Also the market fish was amazing, cavatelli was a bit disappointing as we couldn't really taste the truffle on it and the squash was a bit hard. loved this place! The smell of campfire permeated the streets upon walking from the PURE Project Brewery. In my opinion Pure Project Brewery is the best brewery in Orange county not including Stone. This is a true foodie restaurant. the plates i ordered came out in cast iron skillets. the vibes are lively and spacious. perfect for sharing interesting bites. I had the cornbread and porkbelly appetizers. Both were cooked to perfection. The Cornbread had a nice crunch to the outside and a nice fluffy center. the berry butter added to the sweetness level but over all it was not too sweet. PORK BELLY melts in your mouth. Zach was my excellent server at the bar. Got some good local intel just asking questions about Carlsbad and the local breweries. The iced tea was not to my liking. they brew it with coffee plant leaves. It had an unusual funky aftertaste. I guess if you are a coffee person you may find it interesting. Zach was kind enough to remove the tea from my bill. Will return again someday even though i live 2 hours north. I look forward to trying more dishes. read more

One of the best restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. The food was all delicious, all dishes were expertly crafted with great flavor pairings of salty, sweet, and smoky. Service was fantastic, and I want to especially credit them for being so so attentive to my peanut allergy. When every dish was brought out, they confirmed with me the lack of allergens which I truly appreciated. I visited Campfire on Thursday with a reservation for 7:45 to celebrate my birthday. We had to wait until 8 for our table, but I understand, they are busy. We requested an outdoor table, and the candles and fires outside are such a cute touch. Our server Kaden was so amazing. Very attentive, kind, all around great. We started off with olives and two oysters. I think the oysters were my favorite bite of the night, but barely so since everything was so great! The olives were for my partner since I'm not a fan. I also got a citrus pale ale which was delicious. My third favorite beer I've ever had in my life. Next we got the crudo and the tomato which I think should be called the burrata haha. The crudo had bluefin tuna instead of yellowtail. The combination of the fish, kiwi, basil, with a smoky coconut sauce - amazing amazing. The tomato and burrata was also great, loved the addition of strawberries and the cheese was soft and creamy, perfectly balancing the flavors of the tomato. For the main course we got the octopus and pork. I will say we were getting pretty full at this point but everything was so delicious. The pork had squash and I believe was also roasted with apple. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The octopus was great as well, smoky and grilled with, again, a fantastic sauce. It was a tad unevenly salted but it's a minor complaint for such great dishes. Lastly for dessert we had the smores and the penna cotta. The smores had great snikerdoodle cookies for the base. I will say the smores have the least flavor "depth" but it's a s'more so what else is there to add haha! The penna cotta was delightful with the freeze dried strawberries adding an almost candy-like taste in the best way. There were also these little pearls on top that were a great texture contrast to the creamy penna cotta. They also brought out a complimentary fun-fetti cake for my birthday. So dense but oh so good, loved the cream cheese frosting in the center. I also got a birthday card signed by all the staff which was such a sweet touch. Again, I'm highly impressed by the flavor pairings and balances presented at Campfire. It was great to celebrate my birthday there, and it will be a meal to remember forever. read more

The restaurant looks small from the front, but it's actually pretty large and goes far back in addition to having the outdoor seating on the side. // COCKTAILS // Kentucky Crest: Bourbon, grilled guava, toasted green tea, campari, pineapple, lime. Well-balanced, fruit forward cocktail. // FOOD // Cornbread - Lemon zest, rosemary, roasted blueberry butter. Very rich and dense. A great starter for a group fo 3-4. Broccoli - chermoula, lime, peanut. I see why this is one of their more popular appetizers. It was very flavorful, but was also heavy. This would also be a great dish to share if there was 3-4 people. Ribeye - Koji-aged, fermented fresno, chimichurri. AMAZING! Honestly, one of the best steaks that I've had and they do it better than a large number of actual steakhouses. Cast Iron Roasted Potatoes - charred onion, double smoked bacon, raclette cheese. A side dish that pairs well with the ribeye. // DESSERT // Yes, we have s'mores: Not just s'mores.... Think elevated, and all homemade which made it even better! This is now from a having kids (2) perspective. It's so legit. Sit outside by the tent thing, you will have no regrets. My kids played with other kids. They smiled, they laughed, they had fun. The kids menu could use more diversity. It's like chicken with noodles and veggies. It's refined, but no parent would regret spending $30 on a burger with fries here. From an adult perspective, still legit. Portions are small, but quality is high. I really wish it were higher though. It always hits an 8.8 out of 10 but never exceeds it. It's the best in San Diego / North County but it doesn't touch similar resturants in LA, Santa Barbara, or San Francisco. Service is so solid. I've been coming to Campfire for years, and it's always been one of my favorite local spots. But this visit was extra rad because of Jenae's service (I hope I spelled your name right!). I always order the ribeye and/or pork belly, and that's what I did this time- in fact I just ordered a double order of pork belly. But after my party's order was all in, a couple plate were being walked past me and they had delicious-looking half chickens on them. I immediately wished I had ordered that. While I was confused looking around trying to decide if I should be that guy who changes my order, Jenae stopped and asked me how she could help. She was clearly already busy and the place was packed, but she was super sweet, and told me she was going to handle it. I worked in food service and know how annoying an order change can be on a night like that. On top of that, I never order chicken in restaurants because ribeye exists and chicken is never really that special. My mexican husband had a birthday and we cane here. We were 10 minutes early. We waited for 15 minutes standing awkwardly outside because the head wait staff said they had to seat people at the time of their reservations when we got to her in the line. So we waited with a family of five an Asian family with very well behaved children who seemed used to be being treated this way. Finally five or 10 minutes after our reservation were seated. A very skinny white woman came in and said the rest of my party are parking, but can I please still sit there? I love all kinds of breads and found both of these to be good. To me, the porridge bread was reminiscent of sourdough - good with the whipped butter. The cornbread was light. Our next courses took a while. Next came the broccoli, beets, pasta and potatoes. Standouts for me were the broccoli and beets. Ordered the chicken and ribeye - can't say there was anything special about them. Probably wouldn't order them again. Had to try the smores and pot de creme. Immediately upon seating, Katie, an assistant server came over to introduce herself and advised she would be assisting Parker who would be coming over shortly to take our drink order. Parker came, and we had a brief discussion on the wines offered and perused the menu with his guidance. We decided to share lots of plates, and we each would order our own main. The shared plates were carrots, beets, prawn, and cornbread. My wife ordered the White Sea Bass, while I had the Pork dish. We finished the meal with the desert drink Lil' Soro-tini and the S'Mores. My friends and I came here for dinner to celebrate a birthday. We were able to get a reservation ahead of time. We got there a little early and ordered drinks from the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. I asked for a Moscow Mule which was not on the menu. The bartender made me one with similar ingredients and it was delicious! I loved our server. She was very outgoing, friendly and attentive. She checked on everyone's allergies and asked the manager to point out all the dishes we needed to avoid due to dietary restrictions for the table. My friends and I decided to order a bunch of dishes and share them all. We ordered the following: - Olives - Cornbread - Oysters - Crudo - Pork Belly - Broccoli - Octopus - Market Fish - S'mores The portions are small and the dishes are pricey but everything was good quality and delicious. We enjoyed everything. The Crudo was my favorite. There is indoor and outdoor seating. I like the campfire theme and decor. It's pretty dark inside the restaurant. Campfire has been on my list to try since it was added to the Michelin bid guide! My husband and I finally had the chance to go last night. And I will say everything lived up to a type! Service, food, food knowledge, and ambience definitely are elevated in all the best ways. Our server Katie was super nice and hospitable. Each of our dishes came out with detailed explanation of every ingredient and intended flavor combination. We started off with the porridge red and oysters in my husband also ordered a prong. We ordered the beats and goat cheese, which are two of my favorite things. And we also order the carrots, which were probably the most elaborate carrots I've ever had in my life. Highly recommend. We ordered the octopus and the chicken to share other means. I will see the octopus was amazing but a pretty small portion. The chicken was a larger portion perfect for sharing for two people however I felt the chicken was a bit dry and underwhelming. Probably my least favorite thing we had. We had to close out our meal with each getting a order of s'mores, I also had a Tawny port wine to go with my smart. Our first visit to Campfire to celebrate our anniversary. There were experiences that rated more than five stars and experiences that rated zero stars... We arrived for our 6pm reservation a bit early so we sat at the bar and ordered drinks. The drinks were outstanding. I started with the Dolomite and the hubs had the margarita. We also ordered the cornbread and Tomato. I'm not a big rosemary fan but the cornbread was delicious and Tomato was so good...sweet and tart in one yummy bite. For dinner I ordered the market fish and he had the ribeye. Both were delicious and prepared perfectly. We also ordered the baked Alaska and s'mores for dessert. But, here are the issues I had: After our drinks/apps at the bar, we moved to our reserved table. We were seated along the wall so the hubs had a booth seat and I had a folding chair that was extremely uncomfortable. I asked to switch chairs (there were wooden chairs at other tables) but was told (in so many words) that it would ruin the esthetics of the restaurant if the chairs were switched...so I was offered a pillow. The pillow only helped to create a wedgie that I could not get rid of no matter how much I adjusted my ass. I suppose I would have been okay had this been the only issue but the table behind us was extremely loud and, because of the building we were in, sounds were amplified to the point the hubs and I could not hear each other without literally screaming. Then the sun went down and it was pitch black inside the restaurant. Yes, I get it...it's a campfire...but I had no idea what I was eating until I looked at the picture I took once I we were home. Again, because the staff was amazing, they were able to accommodate us and allowed us to move back up to the bar where is wasn't as loud and the seats were a lot more comfortable. There are still quite a few restaurants in the Carlsbad/Oceanside area we're wanting to try so, if we do choose to return to Campfire, it will probably be just for the smores dessert as that was a fun experience. read more

What a wonderful experience at Campfire! This is a family-friendly restaurant that has incredible food! The service was quick, and our server made fantastic recommendations. Here is a breakdown of the food we ordered: Porridge Bread- We started with the porridge bread which was really delicious, It comes with charcoal butter which was the perfect touch. Broccoli- I am not a huge fan of broccoli, our server suggested it so I went for it. It was hands down the best broccoli I've ever tasted. The broccoli is roasted and has an incredible lime vinaigrette on it. I kept going back in for more and more! Ricotta Cavatelli- This was one of our main courses. The pasta was light and fresh and had well balanced flavor. Chicken- The chicken was extremely juicy and moist, the roasted pepper seasoning was perfect along with the chicken.
