On our way to Mexico, Jamie W and I flew out of Oakland International or as it has been confusingly renamed last year, Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport. While the airport is a convenient alternative to SFO, eating before a flight here had never been a pleasant experience, in particular, the Chili's that turned into Tap and Pour. What's more, our flight was departing pretty late in the evening. Consequently our choices were severely curtailed. This seemed like a reasonable option because we've had decent food at Cancun's Downtown Berkeley location (review: https://yelp.to/-K6JuQ74Zf). We both ordered the $8.39 Soft Taco with pollo assdo, whole pinto beans, pico de gallo, and salsa verde (Photo 5). With my expectations sufficiently lowered, I was just happy it wasn't terrible. Just messy. Not sure I get the three star rating here, like yes, it is in an airport and for whatever reason airport locations always get a bad rap, but I had a really pleasant experience at this little fast casual mexican spot inside the Oakland Airport. First of all, if you're anything like me, by the time you've been travelling for a week you're over eating out and craving some real food. I passed by all the usual fast food options before settling in here as it seemed to be a more local version of Chipotle, and it was! I had a bowl that had all kinds of fresh food in it, and it filled me up for my day of travel. I was able to order at the counter, then sit nearby at the bar and do some work while eating a really decent airport lunch. Is it the best burrito bowl in the world? no, but is it above average for an airport? Absolutely. read more

Passable food at OAK terminal 1. I picked up a regular burrito (with chorizo) before heading home. It cost almost $20 (before tip) and was ready in about 15 minutes. I asked for mild salsa to "wet it" if needed. The burrito was well filled, but mostly with rice and beans. Not much chorizo in there. I ordered a carne asada burrito bowl with black beans. It arrived in 3 minutes and they asked if I wanted mild or medium salsa. I got the mild and it was a salsa verde. The portion size is good - it's a big bowl. The lettuce was warm and they used squash/zucchini, which was weird but edible. The salsa didn't taste that good but still had a little kick. This little humble airport eatery served us up some decent food with a side of Christmas joy from Yusef, the manager/bartender/cashier. Yusef approached everything and everybody with a broad grin and friendly banter. We sat at a tiny table at the entrance. We could see everything! We placed our orders at the computers. I dropped a star because it was a tad unwieldy. Probably unfairly I am comparing them to similar set-ups in Japan! (You also have the option to place an order with a person.) The place could use some upgrades in furniture but otherwise was very clean, especially for such a busy place. A gentleman was working hard to keep it nice. I forgot his name, dang it, such a nice man. Food came fresh and hot within 10 minutes. My carnitas burrito bowl was filled to the brim with lettuce, fresh Mexican rice, black beans, grilled zucchini and yellow squash, just the right amount of onions and probably six really large chunks of meat. The pork's crispy edges made this dish extra yummy. I was shocked at how delicious this food was. My husband's chicken quesadilla was thick with chunks of meat, guacamole, melty cheese. This was no flat disc meal. Hearty! I enjoyed the parade of every type of person walking by as we ate. At no time did I feel cramped or that people were staring at us despite our proximity to the cashier. This appears to be an airport outlet of a Berkeley restaurant by the same name. Well, Yusef has incredibly created a casual fast food rendition, in an AIRPORT no less, that makes me want to try the main location! Say what?!? Kudos to Yusef! read more

I was flying to Hawaii early in the morning and was very hungry. After seeing my son's breakfast tacos I went back and got my own order. Service is terrible - I waited a long time to even have my order taken. Then, there was an unusually long wait for my order because there was a miscommunication between the cook and the cashier. Once I figured out the issue, there was no apology offered for me having to wait so long for my food. As I was scarfing down the chicken burrito, I found a chicken bone and cartilage so I can't even say the food is good. I reached out to management the day this occurred and it's a week later and I have yet to hear back. Never going to this place again. There's much better options at Oakland Airport. read more

This has probably been one of the best food experiences at an airport. We were early enough at the airport to get breakfast. After walking around, we saw that Cancún had a chilaquiles burrito. I have been wanting a chilaquiles burrito for a very, very long time. And this was my chance to get one! I got one to share with my mom, who wanted to add potatoes and pork al pastor. That was a wise decision. It was delicious! The pork was smoky and the softness of the potatoes was a good contrast to the crunchy chips. I definitely could've eaten the whole thing to myself, but I'm glad I shared it because it was filling. Since it was in an airport, the price is high (around $23) but at least it was delicious. I came back around 2hrs later (we were very early for our flight) and got the strawberry fresca, which was also yummy! It was refreshing and not too sweet. The space around the counter is narrow. There are a few tables fitting 2-4 people with some bar seating. Because it was so early with not many people, I can't comment on the turnaround time. But a burrito is easy to take out and eat elsewhere if there's no table available. The space just opened a few days ago on May 1. I looked at the menu from their brick & motor location and it looks like they have many of the same items so I plan on checking their Berkeley location soon. (side note: I wish I took pictures! If your plane is delayed or looking for something good to eat I'd stop here. I'd have to say the burrito bowl here is 10x better than the burrito bowl from Chipotle. Every bite had flavor. The rice was cooked perfectly and the asada meat had flavor to it as well. The hot salsa is actually spicy unlike other places. They do have a mild salsa if you don't like it spicy. The kiosk was easy to use and navigate. Food came out of the kitchen within a reasonable time. Tables are clean and they do have electric sockets for your electronics just remember to bring your cables. read more

Okay! Super excited Cancun Taqueria now has a location at the Oakland airport. I ordered my usual order I get at their Berkeley location which is the crispy chicken tacos! They are absolutely delicious!!! However, I would order the tacos separately if you have the time. I ordered two tacos and my second taco the tortilla was soggy but still so dam delicious. I needed a fork to finish my taco. But the quality of chicken and all the ingredients was so yummy and fresh. Lots of people were ordering the burrito which is a good idea for on the go before your flight. Their staff is very friendly and accommodating and will give plenty of salsa and napkins which is a plus. They have a big bar area and several tables for parties of 3 and they have TV's to catch up on sports while you wait. Nice clean and friendly atmosphere. Also you can get a big water to go for only a dollar as you have to pay for the cup but definitely cheaper than any water sold at the airport. When I order an El Pastor burrito, and receive just carnitas en you are told that is how they make El Pastor, just plain carnitas no El Pastor seasoning, then don't call it that. When I spend way too much on a burrito, that is not what everyone would expect, you refund the customer. I out of Oakland at least 1 per month, I'll never go to this place again. read more

The customer service was super friendly and the food was delicious! I had the Al Pastor burrito and it was fantastic, I found out that it's all made in house using organic ingredients. Both the green and red salsa are worth trying as well as the strawberry Fresca drink. read more

As far as airport food goes, this was perhaps the freshest burrito bowl I have ever had. The lettuce was crisp, the meat hot and tender (carnitas), and the portion was generous.
