Now let's speak with CANDOR about a place that isn't very open and honest. Didn't have a reservation the other night but it also wasn't fully crowded and there were definitely some open tables. The hostess said they didn't have anything open without a reservation and that the wait would be about an hour and 45min. When asked to be put on a waitlist, she took my number and added me through open table. My party and I left to walk around the area to kill time and ended up at another crowded restaurant that had no wait and live music. I kept my name on the waitlist curious to see when they would text. After dinner, I checked where I was on the waitlist through open table and saw that I was taken off the waitlist which I did not do myself. Pretty sure this was done by the hostess, and to give some context she was Caucasian and most of the staff that I could see were unmasked and knowing that my group consisted of all minorities and me wearing my mask, this felt very much like a microaggression. So if you're a POC, another type of minority or an ally to us maybe go support a different restaurant that doesn't exclude anyone that might be seen as "other". read more

I went to the restaurant as a walk in and was told they were not accepting walk ins at this time and the wait was 1hr and 45 mins I left with my party and went to another restaurant and checked on open table for a reservation and they had open ones.tthat was available 15 mins after I left and there was open tables when they told us that they were not accepting walk ins I believe It was because my party was minorities would not recommend this restaurant to anybody. read more

Delicious!! This small gem in La Jolla does everything right. With a large outdoor space, they are able to capture the spirit of the warm San Diego evenings. Our table was ready for us right when we arrived. The owner came over and greeted us immediately, then the server moments later to start our drink order. I am so glad that Candor is now open. La Jolla needed a new place like this, and it is delicious! I have been here for brunch, lunch and dinner, and Giuseppe has hit all of them out of the park, which is hard to do. For brunch, I would recommend the chilaquiles or salmon toast. For dinner, I recommend the tomato bread and the corn croquette to start and you really can't go wrong with any of the entrees. I highly recommend Candor! read more

Two stars for ambiance and service, but the food was terrible. The Tuscan Farro had no flavor, fortunately, we had truffle aioli left over from the arancini (which was decent) that we were able to mix with it. The only thing worse than dinner, was the dessert. We got the chocolate pot au creme, which was basically jell-o pudding mixed with salt, a ton of salt. One bite and we felt like we had just gargled salt water. We came upon this place by accident. It looked cute and we were hungry, so we decided to go in for lunch. Service was excellent. We started with the burrata and grilled pears. The burrata was so good and we were very pleasantly surprised by how well it went with the grilled pears. What a great way to start our meal! I ordered the burger and the hubby got spaghetti and meatballs. The Grill at Torrey Pines has a truly great burger and it used to be my favorite. Now my favorite restaurant burger is at Candor. The meat was a perfect medium rare (how it was ordered) and every bite seemed like the perfect burger bite. The meatballs in the pasta dish were excellent. The pasta sauce was a bit different than expected - it was okay but we probably will not order it again. We were so happy with our meal that we decided to get a few desserts. We got cookies (chocolate chip and peanut butter), the brownie, and the flan. The flan was mediocre but at least we could eat it. The brownie was disgusting. It tasted like playdoh (based on how playdoh smells) - so gross. And we were told the cookies were fresh but they were stale, dry, and flavorless. We liked our waiter so we said we were too full and to give us a box for the cookies and brownie. But as soon as we got home, we tossed them out. We will come back to Candor because the burger really is amazing. But we will never order dessert here again. Honestly, I feel like they should just get rid of their dessert menu. It's just a bad way to end a nice meal. 5 stars for service. 5 stars for the burger and burrata/pears starter. 0 stars for the desserts. If not for the dessert, I'd give them 5 stars. read more

Went here for lunch with a friend. Ordered the chopped salad and added grilled salmon. I was not expecting it to be anything special but it was so delicious! The mix of greens and other ingredients gave it nice flavor and texture and the amount of dressing was perfect in that every leaf was coated with flavor but the dressing was not excessive. The salmon was grilled to perfection and perfectly salted. I was impressed a simple chopped salad could be so good! My only disappointment was that the dessert we wanted was sold out but I will definitely keep this place in my mix of La Jolla dining. read more

What a dining experience! The server was as knowledgeable and professional as the space was clean and welcoming. My wife and I shared the roasted vegetables which were a flavorful delight. She had the steak and fries which were prepared perfectly. The fisherman stew is what I chose and it tasted as if Poseidon himself had helped the chef step by step to ensure the ocean was properly represented (hint: IT WAS,) and I ate every drop. Wow, came here for dinner on a Saturday and found a new favorite. Cute decor, amazing attentive staff, and a comfortable no rush atmosphere. We were 2 adults and 2 children. My best friend took me here for my birthday dinner. I was excited to try this new restaurant by Giuseppe as I've been to all of his other restaurants Which are all always amazing and never disappoint. As always his food is amazing. We started out with the hot and crispy tomato bread which I couldn't stop eating ,the flavors were so yummy. Next we had the grilled mission fig salad with goat cheese, also so so yummy then for entree I had the sea bass which is a whole fish stuffed with thyme,rosemary and lemons I literally couldn't stop eating it even though I was completely stuffed. Then we couldn't pass desert up so we ordered the peanut butter mouse chocolate cake omg they had me at blistered marshmallow and toffee brittle to add to the chocolate and peanut butter. Nothing was over powering as sometimes chocolate or peanut butter can be, it was just perfection. It also went very well with a glass of the super Tuscan. This place is such a treat and we got to sit outside on the patio in beautiful La Jolla. Giuseppe was there visiting with his customers and checking in. Came across this new location in La Jolla last night & were surprised by this little hidden gem Our server Tyler was well informed/very attentive & gave us the best food & wine recommendations all night. Each dish we've had here is magnificent. It was so good that we came two nights in a row while visiting . We came for happy hour and had the flatbread, which was delicious, but the mussels were the best we've ever had. This place is a must-try!! Candor is located where "Come On In" used to be. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a great charm to it, relaxed vibe to it. Our waiter, Jad, was very absolutely awesome and always had a great smile on his face. He provided us with stellar service and I would come back just for him. The food was top notch. The Steamed Pei Mussels appetizer was incredible and one of their best items. The Maine Lobster Grilled Cheese appetizer was also fantastic. The Corn Croquette appetizer was very good, not great. The entrees were all incredible. I ordered the Hanger Steak and it was cooked to perfection, the meat was tender and seasoned very well; the fries the came with the steak were great as well. The Catch of the Day was Sea Bass and it was excellent as well. The best of the entrees was probably the Spicy Shrimp Bucatini, simply amazing.
