Someone had recommended this place to my husband and he was craving steak so we decided to order some food for delivery for dinner last night. We are both very impressed with how well this food traveled! I can only imagine how well the food tastes at the restaurant itself! I ordered the goat cheese and beet salad and also added chicken. My husband ordered the steak in fritz. We also ordered a moose-like dessert and burrata cheese appetizer. The quality was outstanding! Even a simple as a fries that came with a steak was so well seasoned and crisp and soft. We are both very impressed I definitely want to come try this place in person. Highly recommend this place they have a variety of food options from steak, to salads, to pastas and more!

Peach Burrata

Went to Candor on vacation just before Thanksgiving 2025. Experienced an exemplary dinner I'd be happy to repeat. We shared a seared peach burrata (pictured), which was quite exemplary, then each of us had different pastas, both of which were excellent. The wife and I rolled out comfortably full, but not uncomfortably so. If you're looking for an outstanding Italian meal in La Jolla, you will not go wrong here. Also, prices are eminently reasonable.

I came in way too early for my pickup bit the restaurant was kind to me in spite of that. Food was great. Atmosphere is nice inside, especially at the bar. I tried a new spring menu item, Shrimp Salad with grilled papaya and its very pleasant. Super nice customer service.

We had 2 starters, market vegetables and meatballs. Vegetables were great, meatballs were decent. Bf said hamburger was delicious, the fries more so -- I agree, since I kept sneaking them off his plate. I had the orecchiette which was fantastic and a generous portion, I ended up taking some home. Our server Guillermo was personable and fantastic, extremely attentive and provided excellent service. He told us there was a sister restaurant called Caroline's, which we'll try next time we're in the area. The star of the evening was the carrot cake. Bf inhaled it and allowed me one or two bites. I had the tiramisu mousse cake which was very rich, but I preferred the carrot cake!

Tried this place for the first time and we love it. Great, fresh ingredients and they are allergy friendly (GF/DF) with a lot of options. The ambiance is super chill and the service is fast and reliable. Thank you!

The food was DELICIOUS. Very flavorful, great textures, cooked to perfection. And 10 stars to our fabulous server, Guillermo. We will be back for sure!

One of the best lunches ever! The catch of the day was sea bass, cooked perfectly. It's great having staff that cares and is pleasant as well. Theior bread is amazing, oil and balsamic. The patio is pleasant as well, but it takes up much needed parking.

We were treated like family by Matias from the moment we were seated. We had personable, attentive, and very informative attention. The recommendations were spot on, and the modifications we asked for (less spicy on one dish) were readily accommodated. We had the Roasted Branzino and Fisherman's Stew, with the marinated Shrimp Al Ajillo. We finished with a Carrot Cake and 2 Americans. It was all amazing in presentation, flavor, and texture. The ambiance was slightly diminished by being on a main road, but Sunday night even outside was a very nice relaxed, upscale vibe.

On the wine front, Gata absolutely delivers. The wine list is thoughtfully curated, and it's the kind of place where one glass quickly turns into two because there are simply too many interesting options to pass up. Unfortunately, the food didn't come close to matching either the quality of the wine program or the price point. We ordered the deviled eggs, which turned out to be hard-boiled eggs sliced in half with a piece of ham placed on top. When you order deviled eggs, you generally expect, well... the eggs to actually be deviled. We mentioned our disappointment to the bartender, who was wonderful, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable to talk with. The explanation was that this is simply their interpretation of deviled eggs. Fair enough, but it wasn't an interpretation that worked for us. Ironically, the standout dish of the evening was the pigs in blankets, which is not a sentence I ever expected to write about an upscale wine bar. They were delicious, but they also raised the question of why the rest of the menu wasn't reaching the same level. Looking back, we realized we were the only people actually eating while everyone else was there for the wine. In hindsight, that should have been the clue. I only wish someone had mentioned that before we made the trip over expecting a tapas experience. Gata has so much potential. The atmosphere is lovely, the wine selection is excellent, and the staff were fantastic. If the small plates eventually rise to the level of the wine program, this place could be truly special. Until then, I'd absolutely recommend it for drinks, but probably not for dinner.

The ravioli was the standout of the night, thin pasta with just enough filling for a delightful bite. The bucatini all'amatriciana wasn't quite what I'm accustomed to, the guanciale was ground rather than diced, and the sauce leaned more toward a meat sauce with an oily finish, not really my style, though the pasta itself was cooked well al dente. The steak, on the other hand, was excellent. Cocktails were great, and the staff were attentive throughout. For dessert, the trio was a nice way to sample a few things, though I wish they offered smaller sampler portions instead of full-size pieces. The Basque cheesecake was excellent and the semifreddo was perfect with a nice crust. The chocolate torte was good but couldn't compete with the other two. Overall a strong dinner spot in La Jolla, especially for pasta lovers and sunset views.

We called an hour ahead to reserve a table and luckily they had availability. We ordered the crudo and octopus as appetizers. The crudo was served with fresh tuna topped with a sweet melon sauce (not to my liking, but still appreciated). The octopus was delicious. For our entrees, we ordered the pistachio pesto pizza, raviolli, and beef ziti. The pizza was my favorite (i love anything pistachio) especially enjoyed the pistachio pesto. I appreciate the thin dough of raviolli and the ziti was good. Overall food was good. Our server's name was Kevin, he was friendly and gave great service.
