We brought our own bottle of wine and tried the Cuban panini, seafood platter appetizer, and steak with pasta and pesto sauce (forgot the name of the dish). My wife & I were looking for a new eatery. On a whim she suggested Canggio for lunch. This place is so nice. The staff are excellent. Nice makeover for the restaurant. Clean, bright and reasonable. We had Calamaris, which we always try wherever we go. Nice and fresh. Since it was lunch we didn't go full on. She had the Corn Chowder and I the Veggi wrap. Both were great. The "Peruvian Popcorn" was a plus. Never had this before. but delish. They just popped it and it was hot. Temperature, not spicy. We decided for the Picarones (Peruvian doughnuts). They were warm, light with a sauce. The sauce is similar to warm molasses, but with a Peruvian twist recipe. We did overeat. We'll be back. read more

Worst service. I was very excited to try this new restaurant since I LOVE Peruvian food. I called for delivery and the lady on the phone was very rude, and sounded annoyed that I asked for questions. I still ordered, since I still wanted to try. I live down the road and it took about an hour to deliver. Food was not what I expected, it did not not seem to be authentic Peruvian food. Glad to see some places being open despite COVID. Upon entering we weren't greeted by anyone ( my wife, in-laws, and myself) we were told by a cook to just sit anywhere. Once seated the realization that its the temperature of a thousands suns set in I knew I wasn't in for a good time. With some luke warm waters on our table and poorly descriptive menu I decided to get a Cuban sandwich since we were told a lack of ingredients remained from a "huge party" last night. At the 15 minute intermission the waitress blessed my father with a quick shower. At the second half and another 15 mins the completely unseasoned pork arrived. Having to shovel our food down from being starved my wife had to hit the bathroom where no soap had tricked my wife. A swift walk from my mother and some 20's she paid and we bolted out from the place not caring that my sweaty butt print on my chair. Received 2 stars for being open. read more

Drive, scooter, run or walk to this neighborhood gem. Incredibly nice people working there, a great fresh menu, a good, reasonable wine selection and the best Pisco Sour you will ever have. We split a bunch of apps including the Chicarron, the Parmesan garlic wings and the Seviche. My wife is usually not a Seviche person but this fish was so fresh and expertly prepared it was amazing. The restaurant is in a rather non descript area with plenty of street parking. Service was amazing. If we lived within 40 miles of this place, we would be regulars for sure. I'm so glad I tried this restaurant! I've lived in Norwich my whole life, and never tried it (or really knew it was there). We went on a whim. It was a little awkward, we walked in (the door was wide open), and everybody stared at us. Half of the tables were open, but we were told we should have made reservations, and to stand aside and wait until they set a table up. They ran out of many food options (and were totally out of desserts), bummer. The food we did order was fantastic though! The flavors were delicious. We also ordered cocktails which were very good. The service was relatively fast and pricing is reasonable. The only thing I would change is to advertise that you need reservations, and greet people upon arrival so it's not uncomfortable to stand there and be stared at, feel like you're interrupting everyone's dinner. We will definitely go again but will make reservations and go early before they run out of items. read more

Just had lunch here with mi padre, a lifelong Norwich resident. I reside in Vancouver, British Columbia. I have worked in Peru more than six years. Also traveled the world extensively, and I just want to emphasize that I believe this restaurant is of the highest quality. The Decour is classic understated artistic Miraflores, Peru (one of the foodie centers of the universe). The Ceviche was one of the best I have had, but will be foreign to the normal Eastern Ct palette. The Causa was a treat, very authentic with both shrimp and chicken (cammarones y pollo) separate. The soupa de cammarones rich, full and flavorful. EXCELLENT. For lunch the atmosphere was good. I would love to see it at night. Met the staff, authentic Peruanos! Beautiful memorial to the lost soldiers was a real treat for my WWII vet father. A definite prize for Norwich! read more

Finally made it down to Canggio's after reading all the great reviews. Appetizers were great, we got the Yucca and Rellena de Papa. The main courses on the other hand, were completely disappointing. I got the Lomo; steak was cooked fair, however, the "garden rice" was instant white rice with bits of carrot and peas. The waitress described the garden rice as "brown rice with cumin". I can't believe a restaurant portraying themselves as "Peruvian cuisine" would serve instant rice. Truly disappointing. The mashed potatoes that were served to someone else in our party were also instant and watery. For the prices being charged, I would expect unprocessed, authentic cuisine. I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews, however, ended up leaving hungry and disappointed. read more

Breakfast was horrible. Overpriced for what it was, Dry toast and french toast was extremely dry too. Charged for syrup is very tacky when you are spending that kind of cash for bread. All four breakfast entrees came out cold.. Never again! read more

This place is amazing. It's a small, family-owned restaurant. We went in for lunch, it was pretty quiet. Very comfortable. Our waitress was very nice and quick. What a wonderful experience start to finish! Delicious Peruvian food with an American twist. Chef Julio has a flair for fancy plates in a comfortable atmosphere. He came out to greet us and chat as well... a classy touch. The menu is small, which is perfectly non-overwhelming. We thoroughly enjoyed our appetizers, ceviche and causa (2 potato terrines with chicken, shrimp and tarragon and kalamata aioli.) Entrees included the most fantastic chicken wrap with pickled onions and cilantro sauce! The service is spot on with our server explaining the dishes without OVERexplaining. This restaurant was a gold nugget find for us. We chose it to avoid dining in Mohegan Sun before a concert and boy are we glad we did. The front of house are so warm, welcoming and accommodating of your needs, a breath of fresh air compared to some establishments with that name, rank number type of approach. The food was excellent, very fresh and flavorsome, so we are looking forward to trying alternates on a different visit. My wife has a severe gluten allergy and the staff and kitchen were knowledgeable about celiac. They catered for this really well. The restaurant has good ambience. If I offered one suggestion to the owners it would be to try and reduce some of the odor from the friers. You don't notice it as much once you have been sitting for a while but you do when you first walk in. Great place and we will be back. read more

My first time trying this place as it has only been open for a week. It's nice to finally have something in this location that is open on the weekends, and not just for lunch. It appears that there is limited on street parking. That's not a problem for me since I only live a few blocks away. This is a review of my first take-out experience. I ordered the Lomo. From the description on the menu, it sounded pretty good. What I got was a bed of rice, drowning in sauce with some over-cooked beef with tomatoes and onions. All that topped of with soggy potatoes and a charred egg white. Not sure where the yolk went. They advertise as upscale on their web site. Judging by the quality of what I ate tonight, not so much. Maybe if the potatoes were crispy, the fried egg was cooked and presented properly, the beef cooked to medium rare (I wasn't even asked about meat temp), and there was way less sauce I would say maybe it was slightly upscale. What I was served was thrown together. It looked more like a dish from a food truck. Flavor wise, the dish wasn't horrible. For $24 though, it should have been much better. The inside looks nice, maybe 8-10 tables and a bar area. On a side note, Lomo means back or loin of an animal, this was made with flat-iron steak which is from the shoulder. read more

Canggio is a welcome addition to a town that has more than its fair share of pizza and Chinese restaurants. Canggio is billing itself as upscale Peruvian. The layout and decor are very nice- open kitchen, nice window exposure and nice lighting. Service is quick, friendly and attentive. My wife and I split an entrée - portions are generous. While we were waiting for our order we were served a bowl of canchitas- Peruvian popcorn. The kernels of corn aren't actually popped. They're intact but they're not hard. They're crunchy yet tender, toasted with a bit of oil and salt. The yucca frita was cooked perfectly. Wedges of yucca are deep fried and served with an addictive aji verde aioli. The yucca was crisp and delicious, not at all oily or soggy. Pollo a la brassa is a rotisserie chicken served with crispy shoestring fries and available in 1/4, 1/2 or whole portions. The key to the chicken is the marinade, and this restaurant has a delicious one. Herbs and garlic had infused every part of the moist tender chicken. This was served with the same fantastic aji verde aioli. I'm not sure what Canggio puts in theirs, but a good one has jalapeno, cilantro, garlic and lime; and theirs is delicious. Try the drink chicha morada which is made from blue corn- unique and refreshing. read more

Pretty good food and an interesting menu, but it's not quite as good as they apparently think it is. In other words, overpriced for the Norwich area. The service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. the rice on one of our dishes could have been cooked until it wasn't crunchy. The beef "lomo" was described as a little tasteless. I could have made the La Mar pasta just as well if not better at home in 20 minutes. It was nice to have a tiny candle on the table, but for the cost of the meal, table cloths would be nice. They play the right music--South American--but it's too loud. We weren't there to dance. We were there for conversation. The noise level was worsened by the blender that screams into action every time someone orders a pisco sour. The sours were excellent, but the noise was a killer. It hurts to spend $50 per person while dying to get the hell out. The lunch prices looked more reasonable, but I won't be back because of the noise and the prices. read more
