It has been 5 years since I've been to Canoe, but they have not lost a step. They showed why they are still one of the best destinations in Atlanta. Their service here is just top notch from the moment you walk in the door. Hospitality has declined even in the best restaurants, but Canoe still holds it to a very high standard. They worked as a team to ensure we had everything we needed and each person was so friendly. The food is absolutely delicious and a work of art. The smoked salmon is a staple here and still one of my favorite appetizers anywhere. They had some great oysters here too. For an entree I had venison. I've never in my life had venison that is as tender and juicy as this one. Such a lean meat is difficult to get right and they cooked it to perfection. It has the perfect amount of coco rub and the risotto with it was very nutty and well prepared. The night we went was Valentine's and normally Valentine's anywhere is such a mess. Everything here ran smoothly and they you wouldn't really know it was Valentine's Day by how great it was. They didn't overcrowd the restaurant and wanted to ensure everyone had a great experience which is another nod to their exceptional service. I only had two critiques. One was a salad on the menu. The sweet gem was a great concept but they did not trim the lettuce enough. It had the entire core going all the way to the root and the core of sweet gem is very bitter. It's significantly more bitter than frisee or radicchio and made parts of the salad almost inedible. Also the bacon while flavorful was not cooked much and the fat was not rendered. I don't even know if they wanted it to be crispy but it still needed a touch more heat to it. Lastly they had a very limited menu here for Valentine's Day. I specifically asked when I made my reservation and they said they did not have a limited menu planned. Although that was nearly two months in advance, I wish I had known. It seems to be more common but for this place I thought it would be unnecessary. They see good enough to offer their full menu here and I wish they would have as some of the items we were looking forward to was not available. read more

Save your money and DONT eat here. I'm sorry, I really hate to give bad reviews but this place is lacking in most aspects. The food, abysmal for the price. Let's start with the salmon appetizer. Enough cheese to clog an artery and over powered the salmon. The bed of potatoes they were on were so crunchy and hard that you'd better make sure you have dental insurance first. When it came to dinner I thought I'd place it safe with a burger. I ordered medium. Overcooked and charred. Fries were ok but this shouldn't be a highlight of my meal. My wife had cod which was loaded with onions. This along with crazy high prices... hard pass. Service was eh. Had a reservation. Had to wait for our table still. Our server wasn't bad but not great. It was our anniversary and they decided to "give us" a scoop of ice cream. The Happy Anniversary had been wiped and we saw a charge for the ice cream. Luckily they took it off before the CC was charged. I've had better ice cream out of a tub. Parking not great. Had to valet which is complimentary but when we left had to wait 15min to even get the car. The restaurant was super crowded so also hard to hear and cheap seats. Felt like I was seated at a Golden Corral. Lastly the bathrooms. One urinal for the men's and two stalls...For such a busy place this isn't adequate. This is probably just my two cents. read more

Canoe is an expensive restaurant; know that before you go. The grounds are beautiful with the Chattahoochee river as its backdrop. The interior is well laid out and tasteful. We had kangaroo, scallops,and squash soup as appetizers. The scallops were absolutely delicious, not at all fishy tasting. Four of us had the beef tenderloin which was tender and flavorful. I recommend it!!! I would not normally order duck but did so, and to my amazement it was delicious. It was not fatty nor undercooked. Perfect. The deserts were absolutely amazing. We had a sampling of several which we shared . While the popcorn desert doesn't sound good it was worth trying. As usual, the service was outstanding: attentive without being annoying. The server we had was absolutely spectacular. The staff definitely delivers 5-star service in most areas. Two of our guests got up to use the restroom right before they served are food, skipped them I'm assuming so the food wouldn't get cold but they ended up not receiving there food for more than 15 minutes after they sat back down and only after we asked the waitress about the delay. The food was interesting. When you read the menu, it feels like the chef was playing mad libs with ingredients and put the menu together for fun. This definitely translates to most of the dishes. They weren't bad, we just couldn't figure them out. For context, we were a party of 12 and between everyone we almost ordered every single menu item both appetizers and entrees. I played it safe and got the 8oz filet which was noted to have potatoes and green beans. To my surprise, my dish had two red potatoes cut into quarters and 3 string beans. I imagine that at least one person, in this wide and silly world, will read my review in a canoe as they lazily stream down the river. And to them, I say brace yourself, for this review will be an epically positive and boisterous review, and I do not want your vessel to wobble dangerously in response to your excitement. Plus, canoes do not have seatbelts, so any extensive movement that happens as you read might lead to harm. And I simply could not live with that weight on my conscience. So, like my cousin Ernie, who is a bona fide river rat, often says, "Hold your paddle tight, and you won't sink because of this, this, or that." I say all this because Canoe lies really close, almost next to the Chattahoochee River--which was a principal reason why I loved this place, but not the sole reason. There is a lot of love about this place, and I am here to chant the reasons. On my first visit to Atlanta, which happened last week, I wanted to try a variety of experiences. I was recommended this restaurant. I prioritized it for brunch, as I was not sure if I would enjoy the river flowing down if it were night. And let me tell you--I am delighted to have been right. The food at Canoe, the view outside its window (I saw nature, a river, and moments that made me feel, at least for a stitch in time, that I was a member of the raft carrying Jim and Tom). This kind of experience is priceless, and it makes me grateful for Canoe being a pillar that upheld the high expectations of my ATL trip. Canoe was lit, y'all! This place brought me peace, enjoyable food, fond memories with my mom, great service that was almost impeccable, and, in general, was a vision to remember. I called ahead to secure a table with a view of the river. They did not disappoint. My table, all pretty with linen, was all set. I saw the river slowly stream. I saw a place set for a bar. I saw chairs right next to the river. I wanted to sit and sip. I wanted to forget the moments of my life that hurt me, alongside that river. Maybe one day in the future. I don't know if I will go back to ATL, but I will go to Canoe again and again, in my memories. My server, I forgot her name, was a gem. She was a fellow Californian who moved to ATL with her husband, who worked for Delta. I wanted praise to be delivered to her, and I hope I provided enough detail so she may be identified. I think I have. My mom told me that she was like a stealth ninja of manners. For example, I placed my coffee cup on top of the white linen, and she placed it back on my coffee plate. My mom saw I did not. When the server came to clean my crumbs, my mom reprimanded me. The server said that it was not my fault, it was Canoe's fault for giving so much food that left crumbs. This server was a professional and knew how to deliver hospitality that left me feeling proud of being a messy eater. She deserves praise. I wish I remembered her name. We started with scones. There were four of them. I cannot remember all four flavors. I need to write things down. The chocolate scone was truly, in a word, sublime. It was sweet, so sweet, in a way that made my mouth happy. And then the scones came in with different butters as company. It was engaging to eat, fun to eat, and genuinely delicious. We got the river plate, which kept things simple. But the eggs were awesome--like fluffy in a new way that I had not tasted before. And that means a lot since I have eaten scrambled eggs since I was almost new to this world. We also had the brioche. It was so good too! The sweetness tasted fresh. We ate the food slowly; the river demanded it. The peace, the joy, the glory, that I felt as I engaged with my experience is owed to all. 5 Stars for an upscale atmosphere with unique dishes (Think rabbit, venison, and even kangaroo!) and excellent service. We were able to score a 9:30pm reservation for Canoe on short notice and were willing to start dinner late to be able to enjoy this special spot. Our server was prompt and clearly very well trained. He told us about the Australian chef to help us understand the game-forward menu. As someone who has a hard time making decisions, I opted to go for the peppercorn crusted kangaroo 'Wellington' appetizer, featuring mushroom pate, topped with puff pastry ($21) and the baby arugula salad app with spiced nuts, Parmesan cheese, and a poppy seed vinaigrette ($17). The salad was fully tossed in the dressing (but not overly dressed), which balanced the peppery greens. The kangaroo 'Wellington' was impressive and had the whole table taking bites. The mushroom and pastry helped ease the gaminess of the meat, but it was pretty difficult to chew through and led to a halt in the conversation as we all flexed our jaw muscles! Regardless, it was full of flavor and still a win. I also had the pleasure of trying the rabbit and venison (we all shared bites!) and can see why this spot gets booked up quickly! Canoe is a perfect spot for a nice lunch with the ladies, a date night or a family dinner. It is in a lovely spot on the river in Vinings. I'm not a huge valet parking fan but it is your only option here. For lunch today I had the grilled chicken sandwich with arugula salad. It was very nice. The chicken was juicy and flavorful (no one likes dry chicken!) but not too salty. The salad was wonderful. We had an order of truffle fries for the table. It is generous and plenty to share. A couple of the ladies ordered a scallop special which they loved. For dessert we had the popcorn sundae and the chocolate cake. The sundae was well loved. The cake was rather dry. It was filled and topped with mousse which was good but not enough to offset the dryness of the cake. I would not order it again. Service here is always on point. read more

I usually love coming here, but it has changed a lot over the past few years, and I'm sad to say I was disappointed this time. The food was beautifully presented, as always, but the flavor combinations in the current menu are a little odd and not as appealing as usual. The cocktails were all good except for the house version of the Old Fashioned, which was too sweet. Unfortunately, the service we experienced was not great, verging on bizarre. We had ordered several appetizers as well as the sharing charcuterie/cheese board, but the server removed all our side/ bread plates just after we ordered, then brought bread, then refused to bring back side plates because we had ordered appetizers and we could "just use those plates for the bread". We couldn't make her understand that we wanted to have side plates for the sharing board and bread service. I'm not sure that I'll prioritize returning here, with so many incredible restaurants now open in Atlanta. I am really glad that they've recovered so well from the awful flooding after Hurricane Helene, and I hope we just got them on a bad night. read more

I've been to Canoe a few times over the years when I visit Atlanta. It has always been Great and never disappointed! Our server Tyler was great! And, everyone from the reception area to the helpers are impeccably trained. Aside from the amazing food and service the view . . . Did I say the view? It is lovely and you can even go out and stroll in the garden! I am pretty health minded and I'm not saying that the truffle fries with Parmesan cheese are Good or bad, but by golly they are delicious. One of my favorite things is that they are real potatoes. Not sure if they cut them there, but they are real and not covered in unidentified gunk! The salmon appetizer is a resounding yes! The Bucatini Bolognese was extremely flavorful. This restaurant is gorgeous - the inside of the restaurant is very nice and what you might expect for a white table cloth dining experience. Their patio, or shall I say backyard, is really what blew me away. Beautiful gardens directly on the river with an awesome waterfront bar! We ate at the bar outside (first come, first serve). Drinks were good, but their outdoor bar menu was somewhat limited (just a couple of options for wine, beer, and cocktails). It did take some time for our drinks as they ran out of glasses and was waiting for the kitchen to restock them. For our appetizers, we enjoyed the beet salad and the kangaroo. Never had kangaroo before - very interesting! For dinner, we shared the duck breast and their burger. Burger, fries, and duck were all great! Too dark to see if Dusty and the outside 2. Service was on point- from the person seating to greeter to waiter. Lots of energy, good eye contact, and lovely conversation. In essence a good vibe. 10/10 3. The food- hit or miss. This was a very nice meal and beautiful outdoor seating views. I particularly loved their unique dessert - caramel popcorn ice cream! I didn't expect to like it as much as I did but I'm still thinking of it and craving it to this day. As for the savory items, the fish was delicious but a tad over cooked, the smoked salmon appetizer was delicious and unique, the she-crab soup was good, and the chicken was surprisingly tasty. Such a wonderful experience all around! We had the best service and food - every detail was considered. We started off with some tasty (and strong) cocktails - I got a Bellini because when in Georgia, have peaches! Definitely don't skip the pastry basket - their cinnamon rolls are so tasty with warm caramel and pecans. We took every recommendation from our server which was totally spot on! The she crab soup was rich and delicious with the sherry, and the salad and lox pancakes were so fresh and the flavors were really complex and complimentary. When we mentioned we wanted to split some items, they actually plated them separately for us which was amazing! The environment is classic and traditional - nice white tablecloths, and while it got a bit noisy during peak brunch hours, we were able to have a very comfortable conversation. A classic Atlanta restaurant with a modern flare. Canoe is located next to Chattahoochee river which gives this place a surreal eating experience. The staff is phenomenal, attentive and responsive at every turn. One of the best hidden gems in Atlanta. Let me just say that at first, I was not expecting anything out of the ordinary.. especially since I was going for the burger. But boy... was I in for a surprise.. During lunch, they have the Angus Burger, which is a delight in itself. A thick and juicy all beef angus patty with sharp cheddar cheese and accompanied by a mountain of truffle fries. Yes, it is just as epic as it sounds.. and the taste is equally impressive. Definitely one of the best burgers I've ever had. As if it couldn't get any better.. I also decided to come back and try their dinner burger.. which I found out, is a little different than lunch. The Duck n' Beef burger, is bar-none, stellar! First of all, it's made with duck fat, and a thick slice of sharp cheddar... and to top it off (literally) a sunny side up egg.. I mean.., is this heaven? Why yes.. yes it is. 10 out of 10... amazing. They are not the cheapest of course, you're looking to spend around $22 for the burger and the truffle fries (which are also - to die for!), but believe me.., it is well worth it. The Chattahoochee River runs outside the restaurant and in addition to great views from the inside and the outdoor dining area, there is a wonderful bar and outdoor seating next to the River. A really beautiful place to have a drink and meet friends. The food is very good, with the smoked salmon appetizer really being much better than its name. The rabbit and duck are always great, and the burger gets rave reviews from my family! The staff always seems to know what they are doing. I stopped by for dinner most recently(probably recommend doing brunch as a first go here), and enjoyed a quiet evening. We came here given suggestion of my son who had visited on prior occasion and we had a wonderful time. We sat outside overlooking the water and a gazebo where we watched a couple get engaged. Service was prompt and attentive to our needs. A server came around to bring fresh bread of choice from a platter which was different from the typical basket on a table but still satisfying. I ordered the pork chop ($37) that came with a sweet potato side that was tender and cooked to perfection with flavor. We didn't feel rushed and were able to talk and enjoy our reunion. They offer free valet parking to patrons. It was actually a birthday celebration for two of us and they brought out dessert we shared amongst us. A great visit with great food. The covered patio does not have great lighting at night, so if you're looking to truly eat along the water, you need to go before the sun goes down. Husband surprised me with a birthday date night here. The outside area is amazing! We are planning to come back to see it when it's light outside but we enjoyed a cocktail and people watching before dinner. The food was ok. The oysters came with a cucumber mignonette that had way too much pepper. My husband said he couldn't taste or smell anything but pepper for several minutes after-to the point that he asked our server to inform the chef and he even agreed! They comped his drink for this-bit not the oysters, which was odd. My scallops were served luke warm and the "stew" was not as described, but more like a bland mixture of veggies. In the midst of a big city there is a serenity about looking out on a copse of trees and a meandering river. Most of the tables have this wonderful view, as did ours. The server was eager to please and very friendly. We split a bowl of the bolognese as an appetizer. Surprisingly not spicy, but our waitress remedied that with additions from the chef.
