Whether it's brunch on Saturday or Sunday, a quick 3 hour happy hour for some delicious appetizers and drinks, or a tasty dinner with my hubby - Canvas is the place to be for fresh food, great atmosphere, and overall just a good time! One of my favorite things on the menu is the short rib meatloaf! Not a huge meatloaf fan but this is so tasty! Bonus - they'll even split an entree if you ask (sometimes hubby and I get this and split a salad). Always always ask about their seasonal cheesecake; I get it almost every time and am so happy with it. I came here during magical dining and it was really nice. The waiter was patient and knowledgeable of the menu. The food was great especially the smoked salmon dip with the capers and clarified butter. The calamari fries were really good too and they wasn't tough like some places may have. Canvas is a mixed bag for us. The first time we went there a year ago, we were very impressed. However, this last week was just average and the value was subpar. The problem this time was that the drinks were pricey ($15) and not great (the Marguarita was especially ordinary--we've had $5 ones that were larger, more potent, and tasted better), nor generous. They alone took almost 1/2 of the $75 lunch bill. I had two fish tacos that were good but again (not great), while my wife had the seared ahi tuna that had only small pieces of tuna in it that had little flavor. Yes, the view is terrific, with an inside waterview table overlooking the pond there. The service was good. We came for Magical Dining. The caesar salad was fantastic! Great presentation and delicious! The rubbed pork and beans was tasty, but not that remarkable and kind of fatty. The coconut cake was good, but my friend's blueberry cobbler was the best thing I tasted that night! My other friends loved the wings, and the fish and chips. She raved about the coleslaw that came with it. My other friend described the meatloaf as spectacular! The salmon was also raved about. Service was good, but not great. Atmosphere is nice with a fab lake view. A glass of Sangiovese was over the top pricey at $22 for a 6 oz pour, so did not order where I normally would have. This was my first time coming here, bf brought me for my birthday. I got the meatloaf and it was ah-mazing. Just the right amount of potatoes for the meatloaf and the sauce was perfect. Bf got the salmon and he loved it as well. The drinks were also very good. Bf had made a reservation for a romantic setup somehow and they didn't seem to be able to accommodate that sadly (almost sat the two of us at a 6 person table), hence the 4 stars. Our waiter was great! Many food items was already unavailable too but it's ok. We started out with the chips and queso and that was delicious, really good chips and amazing queso. I got the fish taco for lunch (waiter mentioned it was the most popular dish), fish itself was good, battered lightly but not too much flavor, the tortilla fell apart, topping was ok and again not too much flavor. The Yukon fries on the side (honey on top) was good. The husband had the chicken sandwich and he said that was good. Chocolate Panna cotta was ok. Ambiance was nice, cool place to hang out. My chilaquiles was not what I was hoping for and had the smallest amount of pork belly.. almost none actually. It was just a egg pancake with some green peppers and tortilla chips with a sweet red sauce on top. My first time dining at Canvas. The hostess was very nice and took me meet my party. The restaurant is warm and inviting with our seats viewing the lake. It's was busy for the holidays but not you loud that we couldn't enjoy/hear each other. Now the food was great! The table had calamari fries to share, in addition to my party having the grilled ribeye and I shared the roasted half chicken with one of my dining guests. It's was the perfect size portion. The drinks were good too but my day was long and we all finished them before snapping all the photos (Moscow mule pictured only). I'd recommend Canvas to anyone and definitely want to come back to enjoy more of the view (it was too dark for photos). read more

1st time @Canvas. Love the decoration and seating layout. Once you coming in after opening the big door you get a nice view of the restaurant and the lake view. Canvas has a good size bar with ceiling floating bottle for a great modern look. You can approximately seat about 30 seats areat the bar. Order the French toast with chicken. Very good ranks amongst the top French toasts I've had. Very fluffy and not overly sugary. Only miss in my opinion is that unlimited mimosas are no longer sold. So it's either a bottle or per glass. Unlimited brunch is something I like to look for while enjoying my brunch festivities. Besides that price is reasonable and the vibe is chill. read more

Had a working lunch at Canvas and had to update my review. The service was much better this time around, and everyone in my party had quite an enjoyable meal. We kicked it off with the yuca fries, which were fried to perfection. The combination of the honey and cilantro-lime dipping sauce was a party in my mouth! I don't normally order salads, but I am certainly glad I did. Majority of us ordered the Farmhouse salad which comprised of greens, soft-boiled egg, goat cheese, radishes, granola, and a maple-honey vinaigrette. I added salmon, and boy did those flavors come together nicely. Canvas was definitely worth giving another go round. So glad to have had such a pleasant experience. How do you rate a restaurant that looks nice with pleasant scenery, but doesn't serve very good food and is obscenely overpriced? Well, that's my thoughts about Canvas. It's a big sprawling restaurant/market with a very scenic waterfront patio area. The tables are on the small side...fine for two, a little cramped for four. But generally a pleasant seating situation. The first sour note was the pricing. My wife loves salmon, and orders it everywhere. When I saw $36 for salmon, I thought to myself, "Wow, that must be some real special salmon!" It wasn't. I tried it and was shocked at how average it was. It came in some kind of red sauce (weird.) with some overcooked/burnt rice. At first I thought the rice was prepared in some special way, but no... it was just burnt. It looked like they scraped it from the bottom of the pot. I ordered yuca fries. They were okay, served with a tasteless buttery sauce. But again, at $9, they were way overpriced. My friend got shrimp tacos, and his wife got a flatbread ("since that's the only vegetarian dish they have.") My wife asked for a smoothie; nope, only soft drinks or orange juice. I asked for a Bud; the server said they don't have Budweiser, but he can get some homebrew from across the street(?) We waited quite a while for the meals (my friend: "They're slow.") You don't get a massive amount of food for the high prices. It's definitely not "comfort food," in fact I'd call it "uncomfort food." So bottom line: the place looks nice, but serves highly overpriced mediocre food. read more

Sadly my review will not reflect the reviews of my fellow yelpers. The reason I came was because of the reviews. However, I didn't receive the great experience that others have. We made reservations and thankfully that went well.I came with my family (party of 6) and we were excited to eat after church. It was a Sunday afternoon and the place was buzzing with busyness. I highly do recommend making a reservation if you come here. They sat us near the window which has a gorgeous view. After this- the rest of our experience is not all great. Our server, was extremely sweet, patient but massively slow and often forgetful of us. We had to wait 11 minutes just to have water. Usually that's the first thing served. Anything we requested was going to be a wait. In addition, she would come and not ask our whole table if we needed anything, she normally would only ask one of us and walk off. That was frustrating. She told us we had a choice of bottomless mimosas for 2 hours then told us we had only an hour. At this point, we challenged what she said previously. Afterwards, we pleaded against the unfairness so she went to correct herself after verifying with her manager that we could do 2 hours. Now I do think they need someone to separately go around the tables seeing if they want refills on their mimosa. The mimosa are $20 and are really really good. We started with the calamari fries. Flavor was really good, but chewy (never again). My son had the burger and loved it! The fries were really good. My wife had the the lemon pancakes- that was exceptionally tasty. My brother n law and girlfriend had the hash bacon skillet. They didn't like it. Overpriced for it! Non-eventful! Finally, but not least- I ordered the French toast and fried chicken. The chicken batter was tasteless & to top it off, my 1 piece of chicken came out undercook and quite raw. I notified my server and her response was "this has actually been happening quite often lately." She put another order for me that came out cooked well but I should have been compensated for that mistake that could have made me sick. NOPE!! In addition, the plate everyone else has posted ordered had 2 pieces of chicken. I had a small happy meal tender. That was seriously disappointing! The French toast was so so. This dish is NOT WORTH $18 & if people are being served raw food then please work on that for the sake of people's health & the integrity of your business. I took my wife out for a special dinner: her birthday. I chose Canvas because of its view. We both were in the mood for fish, so she had the snapper while I tried the salmon. We shared a delicious Sherry braised octopus appetizer. The California Riesling blends well with a touch of Tabasco that we added to our fish entrees. We ended our meal with the signature blueberry tart. Not bad. The wifi signals were so bad at the table where we sat that we could not be able to scan the menu to our phone. Located right in the Lake Nona neighborhood, Canvas Restaurant offers a homey and welcoming atmosphere towards its patrons. The restaurant itself is divided into multiple sections and I sat in the main dining area that faces the water. The open rafters and use of steel and eccentric light fixtures add a bit of personality to the space and contrasts well with the earth tones and wooden furniture that sprawls the market area that shares the same space. The food wasn't mind-blowing, but still very delicious and even at a budget-friendly price. My friend and I shared the fish tacos, calamari fries, and the sweet tea crispy chicken sandwich. The tacos came with honey-drizzled yuca fries, which were sweet, but not saccharine. Both of us agreed that the sweet tea crispy chicken sandwich was our favorite dish because the sweet tea brine and cayenne mayo that the chicken was flavored with tasted like a match made in heaven. Although it was a spur of the moment decision to pass by this place for lunch, I would probably come back and try some of their other options when I am back in the area. read more

After a week of dining at mediocre restaurants in central Florida, we decided to try Canvas, just outside the Lake Nona downtown district. I was lucky to get a close parking spot near this crowded eatery. They were full indoors and seated us on their deck which is large and great for nice weather. We ordered a bottle of Tavistock, a California wine they have bottled for their business. It was pricey at $48.00 but very good. Our server brought us Queso, oaxaca and goat cheese fondue served with pickled red onion and jalapeños with the world's best tortilla chips to deliver it to your mouth. I am certain that this is what they serve in Heaven. I had a half chicken that was cooked to perfection. My wife had sautéed shrimp mofongo which she enjoyed. The coconut mango cheesecake was a super creamy NY style that was satisfying and delicious. Our server was first rate, checking on us often and extremely knowledgeable about the ingredients in each dish and great made great recommendations. We couldn't have had a better experience. The vibe and aesthetic of the restaurant is exactly what you would want from an American Fair type of restaurant (modern/rustic). We order the calamari fries for appetizer and the whole snapper and pan roasted salmon for dinner. Everything came out at the perfect time and everything tasted great! The calamari had a Buttermilk marinade/ roasted red pepper aioli sauce, but the calamari itself was crispy and tender. I ordered a cappuccino with oat milk that was spectacular, and the rise and shine sandwich after a recommendation from the barista. This was one if the best breakfast sandwiches I've EVER had. From the perfectly cooked egg, to the delicious avocado & sauce to the roasted sun dried sweet tomato's, everything came together and complimented other seamlessly. This is also the perfect area to get coffee with a friend, study, work, network, interview and more!! After I finished eating, Joshua, the barista came back up to me to check on how I was doing. He even got creative and made me a nitro espresso drink that wasn't even on the menu yet. It was so good and so generous of him!!! Such a great experience worth every star given. The only thing tasty about the short rib meatloaf was the bacon-mushroom gravy and the meatloaf was actually seasoned well BUT they use BOXED Mash Potatoes and FROZEN peas even though the menu says "local farm-grown peas".
