Ate here Friday night at about 5:30. Free parking on street outside the parking area. Small line to order and I very quickly ordered our food while my wife picked a picnic table outside with an awesome view of the harbor. Ordered a fish & chip and a bowl of haddock chowder that we shared. Order was delivered in no more then 15 minutes. We are not big eaters and it was just the right amount for the two of us. Plenty of haddock with a reasonable amount of French fries. The bowl of haddock chowder was primarily pieces of fish and minimal amounts of potato which was awesome. Many places fill chowder with bits of fish and lots of potato and onion. Broth was light and not very creamy which was also fine by me. I've never had such a good meal on a dock. The no frills, wait-in-line-style is not for everyone, but the quality of sea food and the view of Cape Porpoise is amazing. Yes, they have wine. We went here based on so many favorable reviews. The only thing I agree with is the nice view. Where I come from, we call this a tourist trap. Two people for lunch at $43.00 is just too steep for food that was just ok. I was really looking forward to lobster roll and was really disappointed. No seasoning and even the lobster itself had a bland taste and the texture made it seem like it was overcooked. Crab cake was missing a lot of the key ingredient, crab. One of my favorite places to get a lobster roll in its true minimalist form (i.e., shredded lobster meat on a buttery bun). The price here is also slightly lower than some other lobster shacks in the area; the day we went it was around $11-12. It also seems less tourists here, so hopefully less crowds. The food was good and the atmosphere was one you can imagine you would see in any Maine restaurants on the water. Came with a party of six and sat comfortably under a umbrella that gave us plenty amount of shade. We all order seafood of all sorts, including steamed lobster. Prob close to 5 pounds worth! The weirdest thing about our visit was their nazi of the wet naps. I politely asked for a few more due to the instruments they gave us to use to eat the lobster was a hammer. Lady say no! Their website says you can call to make a dinner reservation. I called and the person on the other line said they don't take reservations! We'll still try to get in. Follow up: we got in. The parking is pretty silly. Don't be deterred by the booth on the left for the other two restaurants on the point. Keep going, albeit slowly so you don't run over any patrons, and you'll probably find parking. The lobster roll was worth the hassle, and the sunset views of the inlets and tidal marshes are awesome. Cons: My 1 1/2 lb lobster was not 1 1/2 lbs. No way. The steamers were almost tasteless. They should have been cooked with at least a little bit of 'flavor'. Lobster rolls were child-size and flavorless so wouldn't order again. Scallops plate was substantial with numerous medium-sized fried scallops, lots of french fries and small serving of cole slaw. We really enjoyed our experience at Cape Pier when we visited Maine. I had never had a lobster roll before, and my Aunt and Uncle suggested this as a good spot to go. The view from this location is absolutely beautiful and therefore it is quite busy. We went for a late lunch (around 1:30 pm) on a weekday and still had to wait in line for a bit. The young lady taking orders was very friendly. We ordered a couple of lobster rolls and then also fried clams and fried scallops along with a large onion ring. We shared all of the food, and I must say that my favorite was the clams and onion rings (some of the best I've ever eaten). The team working in the kitchen flowed like a well-oiled machine and had the food coming out very quickly. There is indoor seating, but I imagine it is not used much unless it is too hot or rainy to be outside. There is a lot of outdoor seating and umbrellas that kept us covered when it drizzled a bit during our lunch. Overall I was pleased with our meal, and would definitely come back in the future. read more
