To give you an idea, Kings Fish House was $67/lb, the other Capital Seafood at Irvine Spectrum was $45/lb, and this place was like $28.99/lb. So we made the drive to Garden Grove. What stood out to me over the Capital Seafood in Irvine was the much friendlier service and the 90s R&B music in the background which was cool. Got the Lobster with house special sauce, Roasted duck with steam buns ($50), and Sautéed Pea sprouts veggies. * The lobster was definitely the star but just know the sauce is very buttery so may try a lighter sauce next time. Also still needed to crack some pieces so hands got really dirty (4/5) . * The duck was unfortunately too dry and tough and skin not so crispy so I will prob skip next time. But portion was good. (3/5) * The peasprout veggies were good and had a nice crunch but needed a little more salt. (4/5) Hot Tea was smooth, seating comfy. I've been going to Capital Seafood with my friends and family for a very long time, and after a very long hiatus, I finally got to try it again with my brother. The dishes were cooked to perfection, and if you're having that house special type of feeling alongside some really great and fresh seafood, I highly recommend the Capital Seafood restaurant, as now the son is a current owner and executive chef. Really great for the dishes overall around. I highly recommend the house special fish and the house special squid. Adding on to this, we also got an order of clams and, of course, the salt and pepper shrimp. All really delicious and it really hit the spot. 10 out of 10 would recommend, especially for a family night out or just a nice fun night with friends as well too. You know what they say, if the service is bad, the food is going to be good haha! And yes some of the servers were a tad rude here and there but we came for the lunch specials. Service wise, to reiterate yes they were a little rude but got our order correct. It takes them a while to get water like what some other review said and you can see some of the servers bickering and getting mad at each other too but whatever. The main point is the food and is why we initially came here. Our go to spot seafood port closed down and we've been trying to find a nearer spot to replace that. And so far it got the approval of my dad because he's the Chinese food connoisseur and he said compared to other Chinese spots, it's sweeter and has a lighter flavor and made him question if they even use MSG. Not authentic canto flavors. This is definitely different from all the other capital seafoods. The taste and quality is not good. It's passable, just below average but would not return. The noodles were cooked but hard in the middle, the sprouts didn't have that garlicky flavor. In fact non of the dishes have the signature wok hei smoke. The fried rice was also just ok, felt like they didn't know how to do a proper cook on the egg or rice. The honey walnut shrimp had no sweetness, the salt and pepper squid's batter was bland and thick. No flavor in the squid and even pouring the extra salt and pepper that came with the dish, it added no flavor. Didn't give red vinegar/white pepper for the fish maw soup. Seafood Cove would never.. Ordered House Special Lobster w/ Garlic Noodles, but it was overly peppery & lacked garlic & butter. Kids couldn't even eat them because it was too spicy/peppery. Sucha bummer if that's truly their house special because we love house special every where else & here wasn't even close to that buttery rich taste you usually get from house special items. Even their salt & pepper pork chop didn't hit the mark the way it does at some of our other go to spots. It has been always the best Chinese food now in Little Saigon after FuriwA n Seafood World went out of business they are It! So why you may ask why it's 3 stars today. 1) the bathroom lock was broken at least 15 years ago, seriously they remodeled the entire restaurant last year n still didn't replace the lock? We normally go to Seafood Cove down the street- that is usually our go to for authentic family style Chinese food. I was able to make reservations for a party of 20 for my son's 16th Birthday. The restaurant as nicely remodeled and decorated. The service as top notch & you don't get that often at these types of establishments. But this place was definitely different! We ordered so much food and I don't think we took a lot back home - which means the dishes were finished. Their house special lobster was so flavorful and delicious. I think my favorite dish out of the 6+ dishes was the House Special shrimp! Omg they were big and plump packed with so much flavor!! I think I ate most of it haha. The noodles were cooked perfectly and thick and bouncy how I like them. You must also get the house special calamari! I read good reviews on it and it lives up to its hype! It was deep fried but covered in the house special sauce which might be the same as the lobster sauce. They were big rings and piping hot. The salt and pepper wings were cool but nothing too crazy. They were kind of pink still inside but I'm sure they were fully cooked. I love the toppings it came with; big chunks of green onions, white onions, and Serrano peppers. The fried intestines were good but average. They were paired with pickled veggies and sweet and sour sauce. All foods were delicious we really enjoyed it! They were all perfectly cooked and the flavors all went together so well! A lot of reviews here complaining of the price but again this restaurant is more on the pricier side of a Chinese restaurant with most entrees costing about ~$22. Having hard time deciding between four or five stars. They do have more Chinese dishes than your typical Americanized Chinese restaurant. But their taste isn't very Cantonese or authentic. It's not that they are Americanized. I think they need to figure out their seasoning and details better. For example the soup is too sweet. Dishes are too salty and sweet. Tea wasn't hot enough so it quickly became lukewarm. I've been here before they closed up during the pandemic and the food was really good back then. They are popular with lobsters since 90% of tables have lobster (we didn't) and they came out fast....The foods are good, nice portion, and tasty.
