We love this place. It was exciting to see ANYTHING or ANY restaurant come into Plainfield that has a Chef that is passionate about his food. We love to go downtown b/c there are little of restaurants down this way that have ANY quality of food worth mentioning. From the hot crispy bread to the homemade pasta all the way down to the servers who have wine knowledge (and obviously a decent management & training system in place), Capri Sogno is the place to eat. (The fore mentioned are assets that LDV, a sudo competitor does NOT have.). You have to try the pasta. It's outstanding. Okay..don't order the Ceasar salad..dressing is aweful. That really makes it a 4.75. "Chef, I hope you read this. That dressing doesn't at all taste homemade like the rest of the menu." We were excited to try this restaurant but sadly we didn't get a chance to....After calling and being told they could accommodate a table of four plus 1 high chair, they changed their mind. when we showed up there was an open table that could accommodate us, right in front of us! When we arrived a tall man was anything but friendly. As soon as he saw us walking in, he was not welcoming and had a disapproval reaction. He told us he was going to get the hostess. When the hostess arrived she confirmed we were the people who had just called. She stepped away and came back after a while and said the manager wouldn't allow for us to be seated at the open table even though it was a common practice to sit 4 adults and a highchair at a table for four. She then proceeded to say it would be at least a 40 minute wait. For most of the time she couldn't even look at us in the eye. I hate to say it but we walked out there feeling discriminated against. Great Italian restaurant in downtown Plainfield. They still don't have their liquor license (thank you State of Illinois), but we didn't need it. They sat us upstairs and it was very nice and quiet. They had music playing overhead but it wasn't bothersome. The lights were dim so I had a little trouble reading the menu, but it wasn't anything that using my phone couldn't fix. I ordered the salad with the Chicken Limone which came with a choice of soup or salad and side of pasta. The salad was very fresh and their house dressing, red wine vinaigrette was tasty The chicken breast was a perfect serving size and the side of of pasta was also perfect. I only wish they gave you a choice of sides. I would've preferred roasted potatoes rather than pasta. My husband had Linguine with shrimp and broccoli. He said that the sauce tasted good, but a little heavy on the oil. The broccoli was crisp and not soggy like he's experienced at other places. He also had the Italian Wedding soup which was served luke warm, but was tasty. We'll definitely go back, and try some other dishes and hopefully they'll have their liquor license. read more

My girlfriend and I walked into the restaurant at about 9ish to eat dinner. A waiter was going to seat us but the manager came up to us to say the restaurant was closed when it clearly was not. The manager looked at us and assumed that we r young kids with no respect. This is clearly not the case. We are both in our late 20's but we r both here in the city for work. They should post correct hours online (we found them through Yelp). But we had no problem going across the street and giving another establishment our money. read more

Went here last night with the family as we felt like some Italian food. It was our first visit and will also be the last. Pretty uninspired dinner overall. My wife's lasagna was pretty tasty and my mother in law said her chicken parm was pretty good. Nothing special but both pretty decent. I had what I hoped would be a plate of Italian deliciousness in ordering carbonara. Looking forward to a beautiful sauce with some vegitables, Italian ham, etc. What I got was essentially butter spaghetti noodles with cheese melted in. What a complete disappointment. Sent it back in favor of eggplant parm which was better but not great. The prices on the menu indicate a much better dining experience than was delivered. Plenty of better Italian places in the area that will get my money in the future. The best part of the meal was probably the server who was fairly engaging, had his shtick down pat, etc. He did a good job. Now balance that with the hostess who had long brown hair and kept putting it in a pony tail over and over. Not a big deal unless your table is about 3' from the hostess stand. Which ours was. Lastly, the menu touts about 4 or 5 dishes that some food critic liked (he has apparently passed away so I am not disparaging him in any way). I have to believe that if he was alive today and tasted the menu as a whole, he would not care to have his name associated. Maybe an expensive bottle of wine BEFORE dinner is the way to enjoy a meal here. Unfortunately, not a wine drinker. Guess that ends my review and any future thoughts of returning to Capri Sogno. read more

We stopped in for a Friday lunch and opted to eat inside, although the outdoor seating looked very inviting. I had gnocchi bolognese, which was very good. I tried my wife's tilapia special and I was blown away. And I'm not big on fish. The soup and Caesar salad was also exceptional. The chef came out to ask us if we were happy with the food. Good service, walked right in got a table. Good prices. A great addition to the Plainfield Main Street fare. We will be making this place a frequent spot. read more

This is an update based on my dining experience this past Saturday. We had a 7pm reservation and when we went in, it was very crowded. There's not much room at the front so everyone was crammed in and bumping into each other. 7pm came and went, 7:15..7:20..7:30..finally, we were able to be seated. My main issue was the hostess. There is a younger girl who is always friendly and courteous. This Saturday they also had an older woman who could care less that she was at work. She was playing on her phone behind the podium and looked so bored. She could give us no update on our table the whole time and was not friendly to people entering or leaving the restaurant. Last Saturday the wife and I had dinner at Capri. The wait was decent, however is a good sign. We were able to snag two seats at the bar. We started with a bottle of wine. The food was outstanding (veal was excellent). The wife had a pasta special. Both dishes came with a soup or salad which like the veal, were quite good. Service was great. The only area I would improve on is expanding the wine selection. We will still be back for sure! Great job Capri! read more

I am rarely impressed by restaurants enough to write reviews, but this was a must do. I went to dinner with 3 of my girlfriends this past Sat. We had made reservations at 3 pm and they were very busy but somehow managed to squeeze us in. Upon arrival, we were informed the table behind us was lingering a lot longer than anticipated. Most people would be worried that would turn in to a longer wait, which we were. Sure enough they opened up the private room for us upstairs despite it only being a party of 4 to make sure we were taken care of as promised when we made the reservation. The manager Ed was very friendly and recommended numerous dishes for us to try out. Our server, Tiffany, was incredibly attentive, friendly, and overall more than what anyone could ask for during their dining experience. I don't even need to talk about the food because there are not words to describe how great the vodka sauce is there. The gnocchi was also incredible and if the stuffed calamari is a special when you go, I highly recommend it. Cheers to a job well done by the staff at Capri Sogno. This place was great ! Went there for a birthday lunch, it was not crowded our waiter was amazing, his name was Dale he explained everything to us, he made us some excellent Arnold Palmers!! I had the Salsiccia Gimabotto, it was amazingly delicious!!!! My friend had the Eggplant Parmesan, with a side of spinach that she really enjoyed.! It's refreshing to go to a place for the first time ,and feel soo welcomed. Prices are great, will definitely be going back. They have an upstairs wine room, this place is awesome!! Four is being generous, three and a half is better. I had a better experience than my companion. The bread is fine, the dip is awesome (roasted red pepper). Bruachetta was yummy, very flavorful. Salads were fresh. My friend didn't enjoy the balsamic dressing as it was very strong. It tasted like straight balsamic. My red wine vinegar dressing was good. The chicken marsala was different, we did not enjoy it. It was a super thick, sweet sauce that I thought tasted like cherry cough syrup. It had a strong alcohol taste. The chef came out and explained that they use a sweet marsala and don't make it like other places here. We ended up both getting the pasta special. This was fantastic. It was a small rigatoni with chicken, spinach, pine nuts, mushrooms, and a cream sauce. We both loved this. We finished with the tiramisu which was awesome! Lots of espresso and liquor flavor. Overall I would come back, but avoid the marsala. read more

Atmosphere was just right. Not to bright and good background music. Staff was very attentive and checked back with us consistently. Was advised by waitress that almost everything was freshly prepared by scratch. Rigatoni was unreal and the lasagna was fantastic. Portions are huge, everyone brought home lunch for the next day. First time at this restaurant. Ordered baked clams and suggest that management try a new receipe Small clams and watery and not very bread crumbled baked. Seafood with linguini was passable, but contained only 2 shrimp and limited squid rings. The cavatelli with vodka sauce was passable. Had to ask server for a desert menu which was verbally provided. Ordered an ice cream and a cannoli and both were over priced. Sorry to say that we will probably not be back. read more

My husband took me here for my birthday dinner, we had wanted to try them out for awhile now. The restaurant looks really cute inside! The bruschetta was delicious! Unfortunately, we were both really disappointed in our dinner. I had the sea bass & my husband had a steak (ribeye maybe?). His steak was very under seasoned & my sea bass was just ok, especially for the price of it! I typically get sea bass everywhere and I would say this one was one of my least favorites. Maybe we should have just stuck to pasta? There's a chance this was a situation where we just chose the wrong dishes. We decided to not get dessert since we didn't like our dinners. I am utterly disappointed in this place! I planned my own Mother's Day dinner since I am a single mom of two school age kids. I didn't want them cooking and I didn't want to make my own meal so I could just relax and have fun with them. Needless to say, it was ruined! I called on Wednesday to place an order and was told that I couldn't, it was too early, to call back Saturday. I called Saturday and they told me if it wasn't catering that I needed to call the day of. I confirmed that they started taking calls at 2:30pm on Sunday. I called at 2:30 and was told that if I wanted dinner at 5:30 to call at 4. I repeated this to make sure I heard correctly and it was confirmed. At 4 pm I started calling...for more than an hour, 60 times!!!! That is NO joke! Waitress inattentive and didn't seem to care that we weren't pleased with or meal or experience. Couldn't get a water refill without hunting her down. We'll spend our money at Francescas. I have had better, but not in the area. It started off as a disappointment. The water tasted bad (not their fault necessarily) and the bread was cold. Then came the side salads. They were obviously prepared earlier in the day and set in the fridge. The plates were cold and the lettuce was slightly wilted. But that could have been overlooked, the disappointment came with the water that the lettuce was bathing in. What little dressing that was provided was further diluted by the non dried lettuce. Capri Sogno's saving grace was their entrees. Their bolognese sauce was delicious. I had the gnocchi, while my girlfriend had cheese ravioli. Both were cooked to perfection and the portions were just the right size. I can say that I will be returning at some point in the future, possibly for a dinner service instead of lunch and I will skip the salad. read more

I walked in Capri with no greeting. The "host" was too busy sipping coffee to even say hi. It took her a minute to just acknowledge us, which was really rude. Maybe hiring a younger host who smiles and actually greets their guests, would help on the 1st impression! We sat down and noticed the place was pretty small, but we were hopeful the food would outshine the experience thus far. Our waitress was nervous, not knowledgable or too interested in providing exceptional service. Day old bread was waiting on the table with a tomato creation, that was actually so bad, we asked for it to be removed. At this point-we should have left, but I did not want to be rude & possibly cause a scene. We asked about their wine, a huge disappoint. Their selection is very limited. Unless you are buying the bottle. Their food is completely Americanized. For Plainfield, maybe this has proven acceptable. I will be making the drive to the city for true Italian food next time. If you do not mind the mediocre food, loud music where you are yelling at your guests at the same table, rude service, and don't ask questions-then eat here. If you value your hard earning money, and want a true Italian food experience, make the drive into the city!!! read more

We have been there several times and always fantastic service and amazing food. Our favorite is pastaVita Mia & lasagna. Roasted peppers on the table are very tasty, and very good martinis. Our hostess and waitress was superb every time, very friendly & attentive! Love the atmosphere, especially the upstairs. Our favorite place for Italian food! We went here for my father's birthday, we made a reservation and were seated almost immediately which was great. We had a fabulous meal with a great server, she was extremely accommodating because I am an extremely picky eater. Also, if I do say myself I drink a lot of water throughout my meal, but my drink was never empty. I do plan on eating outside on their patio when the weather gets nicer because we had such a good experience. The food is on the pricey side, but it is worth it the portions are large and the service is beyond exceptional! This is my new go to for good Italian food! read more

I'd like to update my review because we had a great Christmas Eve dinner here. I feel sorry for the waiters to get stuck working that night, but it's a tradition with my in laws to eat out. The food was good and served all at once. 14 of us sat in our own private room upstairs. Very quaint! The staff was pleasant. Food was delicious. They made a pasta dish to my liking and it was amazing. Also ordered sea bass which is the best we've had in a while. The size was a great quality. Everything was hot. Only reason I gave a 3 instead of 4 was because the service was a little slow and our kids fries we're too well done. They brought us fresh ones though. read more

The dining room is small and quaint. Over all the Decour was nice and it was a nice environment. The menu was traditional Italian. The bread was brought out and I was afraid I was going to break my teeth on it. I overheard the bartender telling another patron about the daily special, my server didn't mention anything of it so I asked what the specials were today. I ended up getting the special which was spinach and pancetta ravioli. I got five pieces of ravioli and the taste was mediocre at best. For $16, I would have rather had eight cans of Chef Boyardee ravioli. My fiancé had the Panini which said it was on a flatbread but when it came out it was on the same rock hard bread they served us in the beginning and it cut the roof of her mouth. The food was disappointing. Service was OK, nothing special, he did the minimum he had to do and that's OK, he got the minimum 15% tip for it. The food was overpriced for what you got. Olive Garden would have been way better. And I don't even like Olive Garden. read more
