My review is based off my order via DoorDash. We ordered whitefish and shrimp platters Chesapeake style as well as wild salmon Chesapeake style. The sides we tried were breadsticks, rice, broccoli and green beans. It was a solid meal. Nothing was over cooked and there was decent seasoning throughout. This wasn't a gourmet meal but it was the perfect weeknight meal when you don't feel like cooking. I'm happy they offer a wide selection of grilled meals. read more

Drove in around 7pm today. Walked to a shout "Take Our Only!!" rudely.. So ordered and she said what sides. I said the ones on them, got an ugly look .. I said sorry you can't see the pucture.. This location should close down. The service, food, and STAFF were all HORRIBLE! A heavy set Hispanic lady, with facial piercings took our order.... her customer service was fine. The receipt read "GS: Genera"-I don't know if that's a typo or her name. Another Hispanic girl (lightweight, little girl) was upfront maybe expediting the food-she was probably the rudest person I'd met in my LIFE! My husband asked for ketchup packets because the dispenser in the lobby was empty.... she handed him a handful, since fell on the floor he asked that she not give him the packets that fell on the floor, she got an attitude. The food took FOREVER to come out; the fish and hushpuppies were hot, but the fries were cold. I asked how long would it take to get hot fries, this rude lil girl did bring the fries back up here and I'll get you hot fries. I said just let me know when they're ready and I'll bring them up here, so that i can eat my fish and hushpuppies while they're still hot. She said you can bring it no. I asked if I could talk to her right quick, she said, "whassup?". I asked if there's an issue because she's been nasty since coming to the front she replied, "I don't have an attitude, you want a manager? ". When the manager came upfront she was in the back yelling and cursing saying that she doesn't have an attitude. I don't think he was the manager, but he was a kind guy and said he'd talk to her. After reading some of the other comments, it doesn't seem like the feedback changes anything because some feedback is the same. That means nothing has changed! The restroom was nasty, the staff was nasty, and the kitchen was probably nasty. Y'all don't have to worry about me returning. I'll go to another location, but will NOT be returning. read more

We just happened to be in the area and I had always wondered about this place. Went on Yelp and found a smattering of reviews and not very many photos so I wasn't sure if I wanted to try it. I still remember the days when there used to be Long John Silvers around and occasionally I'd get that craving for their fish combos with the hush puppies and crispy bits. You'd smother it in malt vinegar and mmm mmm good! So with that in mind we decided to be adventurous and I'm glad we did! It was almost like Long John Silvers and they have these $6 specials with two sides that are pretty filling and good! While we were there the place filled up so there are many locals that like this place obviously. The staff was pleasant and efficient and the dining area spacious and clean. It looks like this place has been around a long time but it's good to know there's a place like this close by in case you get that craving! If you know what I mean. Check it out! read more

Heavy set Hispanic with piercings took my order and I expressed I could not read the menu under family items and she refused to tell me the count when I got to the window I asked to add rolls to my order she walked off and said I'm not dealing with them. A Hispanic dude appeared at the window in a apron saying we had to go back around the line to order rolls and there was no one in the line. He seen me pull up yelp on my phone to leave a review and he made a comment about not caring if I left a review. The food is decent, but the customer service is terrible. They rush you through trying to tell them your order. Very impatient and the girl at the window is very rude and acts like she doesn't want to be there. I got every kind of sauce in my bag That there was without asking. I ended up with honey mustard, ketchup, cocktail, tartar, and ranch dressing. Such a waste. I only use tartar and vinegar. anyhow, my complaint is on customer service. The southern fried white fish is the best. I only gave it 4stars because when the customer service is just ok. I tried to call my order inn didn't know the exact name but I tried to describe it and was told there no meal with just one piece of fish and two sides. I tried to explain that it's the third one on the drive through menu but they kept saying I can get two fish one side but not one fish two sides. I just got up and went through the drive through and got EXACTLY what I wanted one piece two sides for 8.41. It's worth the price and the drive. This spot is a classic. Been going here for a while and I just can't get enough of the delicious fish. Hush puppies are a must and they aren't hard like some other places. So I like clams....and there are not a lot of places to get fried clams that don't cost an arm and a leg. I was willing to try Captain D's. The service was friendly and polite. But the restaurant was not clean. It wasn't that it looked like the staff hadn't tried but, more like they rubbed things down with a wet cloth. The floor was sticky, the counter was grimy and the tables were much the same. While waiting for the food I went into the bathroom to wash my hands and came right back out. The food was paid for so we stayed....but it was not good, which was sad because I really wanted those clams. I think the oil was old, everything tasted the same and that was not...good. Even the drinks were off mixture, so you got more soda water than drink, making them bitter. I tried the tea and it was old and blinky. We won't be back. read more

Five stars for the service, courteous and friendly folks that worked at this location. Greeted with a smile, brief friendly chat of how I was doing, accomodable with my requests for multiple sauces, and meanwhile the place was pretty busy. It's fast-food seafood. Think about Long John Silver's... in fact it reminded me everything I ever remembered growing up that was Long John Silver except for the ocean murals on the wall and a pirate hanging out somewhere. The fish tasted fresh, the way they crisped/fried the batter was awesome. Everything was light, airy, crispy, and tasted fresh. The batter mix at the bottom was a great addition. The hushpuppies, dare me if I say, were the best I had ever. It was super soft in the inside and nicely fried on the outside. Just the right amount of crunch where you wouldn't cut your gums in your mouth. The Chicken Crispers were my least favorite. I still think Long John Silver's (LJS) Chicken Planks were better. Oh and I'm comparing this against other fast-food Seafood joint's like Arthur Treacher's and LJS. The corn on the cob was pretty sweet, fresh, and hot. I drizzled it with butter once I got home. The fried okra was also fresh and went great with the ketchup. The condiments such as tartar sauce and cocktail sauce were fine. The malt vinegar was ok. I still prefer the Heinz brand. Anyways, I'd definitely go back. This beats having to drive out to god knows where to find a LJS since most of them shut down. Believe it or not this is the only one that is in Houston according to their website as many of their own locations also shut down. Maybe it was due to the Cod Wars but I thought that was in the 70's. Well in the end it's good to see this is still doing well since many seafood chain venues have all suffered immensely in the past decade due to low sales and less marketing support among other factors. We drove twenty miles to get Captain D's for my Dad because we don't have one in our area. Upon ordering we were asked if we were getting it to go, after answering no we were told that the dining room was closed. This is at 7:30pm, sign on the door says open until 10. The cashier told us that are short staffed and closing early. There were at least 5 employees in the building that I could see and no other customers. The employees laughed and shrugged their shoulders when we decided we would just take our business elsewhere. I would suggest hiring employees that represent your establishment in a more professional manner. read more

I wish I could give it a 5. I grew up with Captain D's. It was always better than LJS with their pressed fish. Then all the Captain D's in Houston closed. Sad day that turned into sad years. I detoured off of I10 to drive 7 miles to get to a Captain D's in Mississippi on a vacation. Yup, I like it that much. So when I heard this one existed I made the drive from Houston. (Much closer than Mississippi). The restaurant looks like it is in a small town and is run on less than fully funded budget. The lady behind the counter was very hot/cold. Some people got a "hey baby" and others just a "can I take your order". The menus looked mostly the same so ordering was no problem. Now the fish. What the hell happened to the big pieces of whole white fish? What I got was about the width of two thumbs and 6" long. The taste was good but wow! The sides were smaller and pre-packaged. When I got to the table with my tray I had a styrofoam plate with two styrofoam side containers and a plastic wrapped fork sitting on a plastic tray. The institutional look was disappointing. When that fish urge hits I may come back on a Wednesday night for all you can eat fish. read more

I have had a pretty long day driving to who knows where, and I was tired. So for dinner I decided to go to Captain D's because I wanted it quick and there were no Long John Silver's nearby. Interesting tidbit I noticed was that these two restaurants have coincidentally been closing many of their chains lately. But anyway....there parking is ok coming from Avenue H, but coming from Miles St. the parking is SO awkward. Not only is it really close to the street, but the lines are so faded that it's hard to see. Not really sure wherever I parked was even a parking spot? The restaurant was very clean and the staff were very friendly. I had baked fish with rice, along with a baked potato, mac and cheese, and bread for sides. The mac and cheese was, quite frankly, the only thing that tasted awesome! The fish and rice were bland, the baked potato was just ok, I guess I should have gotten sour cream after all, the bread tasted like it was actually a donut but without all the sugary stuff. EWW!!! I can't really be too surprised though, since it's a fast food restaurant, but everything was just ok as a whole and I was still satisfied. Still I think I should probably stick to fried fish when I come back next time. Oh and uh...I'll walk from a better parking lot next time. read more

This evening, bored with other sub-par options in Rosenberg, I gave Captain D's again. I was extremely pleased with the quality of food and will definitely will return in the near future. What to say... Looks like a dive because it is a dive. One that I wont frequent but if I am in the mood for fish I will come to Captain D's. The people were friendly and accommodating. Shrimp I have had better probably best to pass on it less you like low quality shrimp. I know I wont order it again. Same goes with there country battered fish. Seemed like a corn meal batter but I did not like it one bit. There regular batter is very good. Fries well not to bad about on par with a Long John Silvers. In fact the food seems like a Long John's knock off. Cooking fish is an art form that eludes me and also this place as well. there is a very fine line between under cooked, cooked to perfection and over cooked. Under cooked fish is easy to spot its fleshy and not very hot. Cooked to perfection will always be white and flaky. Over cooked fish will not be white and flaky but it will be translucent and very hot it turns this way because the fish gets steamed in its batter and thus is mushy. 6 out of 7 pieces I got where over cooked and 1 was cooked perfect. That being said I would still return when I am craving Long Johns because I am not willing to drive to a Long John's. read more

I'm still trying to find a "good" (NOT "GREAT" AS THAT WOULD BE TO MUCH TO ASK FOR) place to eat in this city. Recently went to Captain D's in Rosenberg and yes I read the reviews before we decided to go but hey I was desperate for some fish granted I have not seen a Captain D's restaurant in over 30 yrs. I had some fond memories of the famous seafood platter, so off we went to recapture my childhood - unfortunately like most things - Captain D's has changed. True to most of the reviews this place is a dive (not in the good way) while the staff was pleasant, attentive, and polite the restaurant was DIRTY like you don't want to touch anything DIRTY. The food was not how I remembered it - (It use to taste good), surprisingly the stuffed crab shells did taste better than the one's we had at Pappadeaux it actually had some crab meat. Sadly Captain D's has made the list of places I will never go to again... read more
