Sandy McGee's is a downtown Richmond, TX staple! It's one of those restaurants in the area you…read morehave to try at least once. It is known for its chicken salad, and as a big chicken salad fan... I honestly didn't think it lived up to the hype. Sorry. It was good but it didn't blow me away as the best chicken salad I've ever had. Nonetheless, I had it with my "Ann's Plate" which is a scoop of chicken salad, fruit salad, and a cup of soup. Its just enough food to get you full, but light enough to not make you FEEL too full. However, that cold avocado soup-- wasn't great. I wanted to like it because it was 100 degrees out and figured on a hot day, it would be cool and refreshing. I think that was the idea behind it but the execution wasn't there. Service-wise, no problems there. The staff is friendly and works really hard, since this place is pretty busy and popular at all times of the day, at seems! Definitely a neighborhood favorite and the locals love it.

It was self seating but the way the rooms are split up, we weren't 100% sure where we were allowed to sit and no one was in the front greeting anyone as they come in so you couldn't really ask questions unless you go to the bar first which was located towards the back. The tables were all dirty so we picked the least dirty table which still had crumbs all over it but we just tried to wipe them away as best as we could. The customers who came in after us picked the table next to us which was dirty as well but their server went and wiped it down for them which was nice. Our server was kind and answered all of our questions and we did inform her it was our first time so she suggested a few appetizers and we started with French Onion Dip. It was TO DIE FOR! The tortilla chips it comes with were perfectly crisped and salted and it hit all the right flavors. The food? Oh my word. The servings are MASSIVE. My husband ordered the Philly cheese steak with a side of onion rings and it did not disappoint! I ordered the chicken Cobb salad with a side of their Brussel sprouts. The chicken Cobb salad came with two small scoops of chicken salad and it was so light and refreshing and nothing like any other chicken salad I've ever had! Our server brought me a little bit of Parmesan cheese to top off the Brussel sprouts with and it was so good. All in all, the food was a hit! I wish I remembered to try the broccoli and cheese soup so we will be back in the future. Definitely recommend. We don't understand how Sandy McGee's only has a 3.7 rating after trying this spot out!

The bar is actually really cool because the countertop is full of coins from one end all the way to the other! Haven't seen anything like it before so that was pretty neat. My husband ordered a breakfast sandwich- as you can see from the picture, he enjoyed every bite! I ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of bacon. The chicken was thick and juicy, just how we like it, and the powdered sugar with strawberries on top really held that nice, sweet and savory fix I needed! Next time we come, I'll have to try the dessert and Bloody Mary!

Our friend had a burger and said it was very good. I drank beer, which was cold and our server kept them coming which was great! Would go back for the fish and chips! We then went especially on a Wednesday to have the Chicken Pot Pie special. It was served in a bowl type (very large mug) with a big croissant type bread sitting on top. Have never seen it this way so we were kinda surprised. It was not terrible but won't order it again. It came wth a very large side salad. Also ordered a cup of the potato soup. It was very runny and unfortunately not a potato to be found. Also would not order again. Their daily specials seem to be a good deal. Their menu has quite a selection as well. Definitely want to try their breakfast!

The wait time was as expected for that amount of people to come in. I had the fire roasted salmon and I loved it. It was a great contrast of differing textures and flavors. It was a lot better than I expected. The portion for me was perfect, I was full and satisfied by the end of it. They do an excellent job in trying to accommodate everyone and they made an effort to regularly check in. This place has that woody, western vibe to it. Definitely a little pricey on certain menu items but aside from that a good time overall.

She took our drink orders, food orders and then everything seemed to fall apart. She returned several times, but mentioned that she was tied up handling several large drink orders and that was the last we saw of her. The food was delivered by other servers. As you can see, the fried catfish fillets were burnt on the outside, but the fish was undercooked inside and had raw (uncooked) portions inside. Not a pleasant surprise. We later learned that Lexus had left for the day and we were left on our own, so to speak. No drink refills for the nearly three hours we were there. Finally, we had to get up and find someone to help us and get our checks. When I was able to pay I requested a receipt, which I never received. Lastly, when we were leaving, someone was mopping the walkway and left puddles of water in the walk, which posed a slip hazard for our group of elderly individuals. When we told a server about the water in the walkway, she told us that she knew it was wet, because she just mopped it. Not an answer you want to hear. All in all, a very unimpressive experience.

Then the Texas cheesesteak and fries- came on a single hot dog bun cut in half, asked for extra cheese on it and couldn't even tell if there was any cheese at all, this to was $13.75, not worth the price. Now the soda, ice cream, drinks were great. But they are a bit pricey as well. For a soda with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream was $8.25. In all the restaurants is cozy and very cold (take a jacket). The safe or server was very friendly. Any question we had they was answered. Also make sure to carry cash with you. They will charge you 3% to use your card. Hadn't been there in a while because of the food! But they posted a new cook in the kitchen so thought we try it out! My wife and I were hoping for the best, but it didn't happen! My wife ordered a sugar free lemonade, my aunt and I ordered a lime malt shake, my cousin ordered a chocolate banana shake and his wife ordered the strawberry banana shake! Well the lime malt shake really had no lime flavor. All you tasted was the malt! Everyone else drinks were good! Then we ordered our lunches! My wife ordered chicken fingers and sweet potato fries! My cousin and his wife Ora club sandwich on rye and was told the only have white or wheat for the order! The wanted to split the sandwich and chips in half to share and they did! My aunt ordered the 2 chili hot dogs with fries. I ordered the patty melt with fries! Well my wife chicken tenders were good but the sweet potatoes were barely warm! Strike One! My cousin and his wife got the Club with chips and 2 baskets so the could share! But the Club wasn't a traditional club it was just a 2 slice wheat bread sandwich! No 3rd slice of bread in between! Second Strike! My Aunt 2 coney dogs were good and also the fries were good! A Ball! I got my patty melt on marble rye, a hamburger patty that was very dry! Not many grilled onions on the first half of the sandwich and cheese on it(why) but no Thousand Island Dressing! So I ask why there was no Thousand Island's Dressing and was told they don't put that on their Patty melts! Strike Three! Very disappointed and a little embarrassed with the food and the choice of going there! Needless to say we won't recommend this place and be coming back here again! The service was good but didn't make up for the bad food! They really need to get there act together!
