Although we've had a couple good meals there in the past, the dinner and service we had last night was awful. It was a birthday dinner and turned out to be lousy. The hostess was pretty rude over the phone when I made the reservation but I let that go due to her young age. That should have been the first clue. We got there at 8:00 pm. They were supposed to have a brownie with a candle and the piano player was supposed to sing happy birthday. We didn't get served until 10:15 pm. That's over two hours waiting for our food. Ridiculous. The server was not honest with us. Every time we checked on our meal he said it would be just another minute. That minute turned into over an hour. Two of the four meals were inedible. The scallops were rubbery, even though they were supposed to be top grade. The other meal was a charred and burnt piece of steak that was supposed to be medium. Never during the night did they sing happy birthday and we never got the birthday brownie. Don't go there. There's plenty of better restaurants in Ocean City. Try any of the other ones. read more

Best food in OCMD. I went here this past Saturday during memorial day weekend and everything was amazing. Yes the place was packed but we were attended to multiple times before our food came out. We started with the Tuna app and the guacamole crab dip. The crab dip was enough to be a meal it was excellent and the tuna was so fresh it was like it just came out of the water. For dinner we had cakes and steak and the glazed pork chops. Neither one of these were short of amazing either. Everything we had was loaded with flavor and the salmon mashed potatoes were to die for. This is a high quality restaurant in a party city where you can go in and be comfortable. Place has been around awhile and it is clear the owners / managers take advantage of people only coming once. The seafood scampi was good but steak was overcooked, mashed potatoes had no seasoning or flavor. Manager was too busy eating food and reading a magazine at front table by piano. She finally came over but proceeded to argue instead of apologizing and trying to fix it. She then proceeded to stick a knife in my wife's mashed potatoes in front of us and licked it and put it back on a plate on the table. She offered to remake the food after we had to tell her that is what we wanted but after being extremely rude and uncaring we just wanted to leave. I'll start with positives: the atmosphere was VERY nice and welcoming. There was a live piano player and the servers were very kind and attentive. I knew the food was going to be slightly more pricey going in but the quality of my meal was very poor. Had not received any of our dinners. We complained to the waitress who was quite rude and nasty. This place would have received 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact that our meal took 1 hour and 20 minutes to come out of the kitchen. Our salad and two bowls of soup took 35 minutes to come out. Our server was awesome and very apologetic knowing we were waiting very long to receive our food. I watched her, she was constantly busy taking care of her tables. What topped the whole visit off was the rather weird owner or manager. At the 1 hour, 5 minute mark I asked our server what was taking so long. She again apologized and informed us the kitchen was slammed. You could tell she was probably getting the same questions from other tables and was embarrassed and frustrated. She told me she would have the owner come over and talk to us. About 10 minutes later an older, white haired man, came to our table, approached me where I was sitting and just stood there and stared at me. After a very uncomfortable 5-10 seconds of him staring at me and my family I asked him "can I help you?" He replied "your server said you wanted to see me." I then replied "who are you?" He then proceeded to mumble something like "oh, I'm sorry , I'm the manager." I asked if he usually approached people and stared at them without announcing who he was. After asking him if his restaurant normally takes well over an hour to get meals out of the kitchen, the only thing he could say over and over again that everything was made to order. BS! I'm part owner of 4 restaurants the past 25 years. Soup isn't made to order and crab cakes are usually made dozens at a time (hopefully daily). While we did receive a 20% discount, the owner/ manager was a complete idiot who shouldn't be allowed to talk to customers. The server, food and atmosphere was very nice. Can here with my kids since we were staying in the Marriott and it was pouring outside. Food 3*, decor 3*, Service 5*. There is a nice bar and the service is friendly and the staff is all amazing. Water was filled plates were cleaned off, waitress was friendly and accommodating. The food was decent, nothing special and the decor/furniture inside is more like a hotel cafeteria than upscale restaurant. There was a good piano player there since it was Saturday night. Our Maryland crab chowder was super salty (and I like salty) but they took it off the bill so that was nice. My oysters on the half shell weren't over ice so they weren't as cold as I like them and they were shucked poorly and I had to fish out pieces of shell which I hate. Mashed potatoes seemed too processed but the kids like them (probably cause my mashed potatoes are from a packet and it's what they are used to, but I like lumpy slightly creamy potatoes when I go out) I had the tuna appetizer for my entree and it was yummy. One kid had the clam appetizer for her entree and like it but the broth was too salty. My other had the $35 filet and it was gone before I could see it. Dessert was adequate and hit the spot. Hidden Gem !, Very affordable, large portions, inexpensive kids food and cocktails ! Family owned inside the Marriott Hotel...Highly recommended for dinner and breakfast was also good . Pardon any typos this is a voice text ...We were staying at the Marriott on 15th street, we were tired and decided to eat at the Captains Table Restaurant in the hotel. We have been to several other great restaurants on the island this week but this was the best dinner we had hands down! We had our two kids with us and asked that their food come out with the appetizers.. they had chicken fingers and pasta (priced right for kids), and we had "Crab Guacamole", this is not at all what you would think. My wife wanted it and all I thought was ...NO, ...The waiter than gave us a soft sell talking us into it and I agreed, it was awesome!!! I can't explain it that well because they would not tell me the ingredients but basically I can tell you that it was sautéed chopped jalapeños onions garlic, tossed with house roasted fresh tomatoes giant pieces of fresh jumbo lump crab meat and diced fresh avocado, this is all served warm with some seasonings and fresh cilantro and Possibly a splash of white wine? It was a generous portion with a generous portion of very thin crispy warm fried to order corn tortilla chips, we could have each ordered a bowl of this and been good for the night but it didn't stop here. Did I mention that they have a live piano player? The kids have been going up to him and requesting music, goodtimes! For dinner my wife and I both ordered halibut but cooked two separate ways. Out of the many ways they offered to cook the fish I ordered mine macadamia nut crusted with lemon burre blanc and wife with crab meat and garlic bread crumbs with lemon burre blanc. We will post the pictures after writing this review. There were several other options for how you can get your fish cooked one of them including to be topped with the crab guacamole which also would've been awesome on this fresh halibut. I had not had any bad fish in Ocean City and I was a little bit skeptical to order halibut being that it is not fished in this area, plus the fact that I keep thinking that I am eating in a hotel restaurant , they did not disappoint and this was the best freshest halibut I have ever had anywhere. (did I tell you that I am very picky and I know my food very well? :)) OK, so the halibut crusted with macadamia nuts fell just short of perfect only because a few bites of the macadamia nuts tasted a little off, so I pushed the rest of the crust off the top and ate the delicious fish and the butter sauce with the basmati rice that was cooked perfectly. Both pieces of halibut well very generous and size, the garlic bread crumb and crabmeat crusted halibut was also phenomenal, Fish cooked to perfection in and plenty of crab topping with garlicky crispy bread crumbs and a few more of those house roasted tomatoes thrown in with plenty of lemon butter sauce on the plate to bring it all together. We were so full we could not finish our entrées, all portions were generous and size, the food was priced more than fair for the portion, the service was excellent, our only regret is that we did not eat here the first night that we arrived because we would definitely have eaten here more than once! We had asked the waiter (good service here) if the chef would come out because we wanted to know some of his secrets and he said that the chef does not come out so we told him to thank the chef for us he said that this restaurant has been in one family for three generations and way before the Marriott had been built. My parents have taken me to The captains table since I was very young before they were in the Marriott. We choose to have our Thanksgiving dinner with them tonight, because we knew how great the food and service was. We called them Ablout a week ago and they have us a reservation at 7:30. We were seated late, which we were not upset about because we were excited for their food, especially the salmon. The hostess/owner was raving about the food and Mac and cheese while we were waiting. Upon being seated and going to the buffet, the salmon had been out for hours , Mac and cheese was gone , everything else was severely picked over and gone. I brought my concerns to our waitress and she basically told me it was my fault for coming in so late, even though they gave me a reservation. Told my concerns to the Owner as leaving as again was told that they basically gave me a pity reservation since I had kids and what did I expect when I came to a buffet at 7:30 (on a reservation that they gave me prior to Thanksgiving)I told her if they had told me while I was waiting for our table that they were basically out of everything I would have spent my money elsewhere and I was very sad the told me it was my fault. read more

Is there a no star. This was the worst experience of my restaurant life. It was New Year's Eve. After 2 hrs we received only our salad. A server with an attitude that obviously had been coached by the Management to say "what do you expect it's New Year Eve". After a 8:30 reservation we had to leave at 11:30 having just had the salad. We had to flag a server down for everything and waited so long for drinks we picked them off the bar ourselves. Total disaster. The owner just had an attitude, it was obvious he is just too cheap to pay for staff. If you look at other reviews you will see on holidays they are terrible. Thank heavens for liquid assets who were able to seat us and feed us at such a late time. I know people seems to like this place at non holidays times, but really just the total attitude of the management/ owners will stop me from returning. The new Captain's Table at Ocean City is a convenient addition to the Courtyard Marriott in Ocean City. It is a new, clean nice looking restaurant. My breakfast was convenient, and had nice biscuits. My eggs and bacon were very overcooked, and the service was very slow. If you want an overpriced hotel breakfast with decent food this is the place. It is very convenient if you are staying there though. read more

Wonderful dining experience, albeit not much of a view. Apparently all the ocean views are sucked up by the rooms, and the restaurant had none. But the service and food were delightful and the live piano music, fabulous! Only gripe (besides view) was the dessert. ..if you offer key lime pie on the menu, PLEASE don't serve an obviously frozen, cheesecake-like concoction with a huge dollop of mediocre whipped cream! Customer service is a concept that is rapidly fading however Jimmy is in a league all his own. He is attentive, personable, professional, kind, efficient and very pleasant. Even in the midst of a large party Jimmy never skipped a beat in making my husband and I feel like we were a priority. He had recommendations that helped us to have one of the best experiences on our vacation. I rarely waste time on complaints but I believe that impeccable people deserve to be recognized. The breakfast service was terrible. A half full restaurant and my group came in. Over 5 minutes for waiter to ask drink orders. After the drinks were finally delivered he took the order got my order wrong and wanted to argue about it. Filling coffee we had to find the waiter to get service. Since I got the incorrect order but something I would eat ask for onions came back with eggs I ordered but it was too late then. To get the order after we ordered took 50 minutes in a half empty restaurant. It was ironic that for POOR TERRIBLE SERICE they had the nerve to add a 18% tip. Anything over $2 was too much. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK FOR ANY MEAL. Service is everything at a restaurant and they do not have GOOD SERVICE. One star was more than I would give. read more

To celebrate my birthday this weekend, my husband and I dined at Captain's Table for the early bird special. He had a key lime margarita and I had had the HRM pinot noir. The fried crab balls and sauce were perfect and not overly cooked or greasy. My husband had fried shrimp and in his understated way, said, "There was nothing wrong with it." Our 1966 class of Stephen Decatur High School held our 50th year reunion at the Captain's Table last night. The food was plentiful and delicious. Extremely delicious! The staff was friendly, attentive and helpful. The piano player was always smiling and added to the ambience. At least one of the owners was present to ensure our satisfaction. Everything was absolutely perfect. As a member of the reunion committee, I am so pleased that we decided to hold our party at the Captain's Table. read more
