We usually don't have to wait for a table, however there was a long wait tonight unless we wanted to sit at the krudo bar. We chose that option and were very happy we did. If you are like me and don't want to cook after work, I would recommend stopping here for their 3 course meal deal. For starters, you get to choose a house or ceaser salad. Your entree is 2 filet medallions with stuffed shrimp a side of mash potatoes and asparagus. And you also get their tasty tiramisu for dessert! We were celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary and decided to go to Carbones as it hit my love for Italian and my hubby's love of steak. We made reservations and were seated promptly when we arrived. Our server was attentive and brought out our drinks quickly. We ordered the oysters for our appetizer as we love them. The limoncello shot to put on the oysters was so fun! However when we ready to slurp down the oysters, the majority of them were not shucked properly and still were attached to the shell. That resulted in us having to use a knife to cut through to dislodge the oysters. With a high end restaurant this should not be the case. On to dinner. I ordered the scallops with risotto and my husband order the hanger steak, medium. When his steak came out it was medium rare. Yes we should have sent it back however it probably would have come back over done. My scallops were delicious however the risotto was under cooked and wasn't al dented but actually crunchy. That being said, it would have been to receive a complimentary dessert for our anniversary but I guess they don't do that like other restaurants. The space is fantastic!! The food is not up to the price level. I had a thirty day aged steak and there was no difference than a wet aged. Honestly the outlaw ribeye at longhorn is a better option. From their olive oil with your bread to any of the sauces resound of rosemary,which I'm am not the biggest fan of,it's just a constant taste throughout the meal!!!And if ur thinking about getting the crabmeat side dish with ur steak DONT!! Was the quality of canned crab meat! This is a great spot for a date night. The ambience is fancy. It's a place you dress nice to. The service is great. The servers are very on top of clearing plates and filling waters. The food came out really quickly as well. The food is amazing. My favorite is the whipped ricotta appetizer but we enjoyed everything we got. There's a wide variety of food and drink selections, mostly pasta and meat. They are also very accommodating to modifications. The dessert menu had a great selection of sweets. I have not been here for a long time but friends wanted to stop in after a concert. It was a little late and the bar was packed so we got a booth in the dining room. Good service, were greeted and seated and menued right away. Each ordered a cocktail, Negroni for me which was good but too much 'fruit salad' in the glass instead of a twist. A dozen oysters for two of us were fresh and plump but shell shards were a pain. The mignonette was really good. Couple of pizzas would fill us up. The Margarita was ordered with sausage [why?] but that's what they wanted. The other pizza I had never had and was good in flavor and ingredients: Poached Pear. Try it, you'll love it. However, as the the British would say both pizzas had 'soggy bottoms'! That was a downer. Our server ended up staying late as I guess we closed the place. I would give Carbone's Prime 3.5 stars. I used to live in Rocky Hill and this place opened about a year before we moved away. We had gone a couple times and we're never overwhelmed. The food is average. The bar area is fun and always bustling. The drinks are pretty good. Most recently I was there for an event my company hosted last week. There were about 40 of us total in a small room off to the side. There was 1 waiter and 1 waitress specifically for our room. They both seemed miserable to be there. They were bickering at one point. In addition - I don't think the female waitress smiled once. If the door wasn't closed (to the outside restaurant), it was so loud you could barely hear anything. It was a speaker program and we actually had to delay our presentations because they wouldn't allow the doors to remain closed during dinner service and you couldn't hear anything because the bar was super loud. They started with some cheese and crackers and crudités. The Caesar salad was way overdressed. The chicken piccata was not at all a traditional piccata. It was served with some toasted veggies that were actually pretty delicious but the juices from the peppers and onions soaked the bottom of the chicken and that's all I could taste. The tiramisu was actually one of best I've had. There were some leftovers from a few RSVPs who didn't show so I took an eggplant parm home. I had it for lunch today and it was actually delicious. Would go back again for an event later or if invited by friends but probably wouldn't seek it out or recommend myself. read more

Our group, which included people from various ethnic backgrounds, felt like we were an inconvenience rather than guests. The waiter was dismissive, and the management was no better. Prime is one of those places that I will always return to. Happy Hour, quick bit, full dinner...I've done them all, and will keep on doing it. This time my friend and I stopped in for a light dinner, and as always had a great time. The melon and burrata appetizer was something out of this world! Perfect for hot summer days. Then we both went pizza route, and Carbone's has some great combinations of pizzas. My friend did chicken parm pizza and I had the mouthwatering Poached Pear pizza with truffle honey, gorgonzola cheese, crispy prosciutto. So so good! I belong to a few professional organizations, and I joined six friends from one of them for a dinner planning session at Carbone's Tuesday night. We were in a private room, that was large enough so we could sit at every other chair to be socially distant. Our experience was excellent! The service, the appetizers, the entrees were all high in quality. Our server told us about the half or dozen or so dinner specials, and three of our seven went for one of them, including yours truly. So what was that popular entree? It was Cioppino with shrimp, lobster, and mussels over pasta with two crostini slices. Very good sized shrimp, a nice tender hunk of a lobster tail, plenty of mussels, delicious broth and a nice portion of perfect pasta. I thought it was awesome !! This restaurant is always so hard to rate. I WANT to love it and give it more stars. I really do. But, I'm always let down by something when I come. The positives: great ambiance, great service, good social distancing outside the bar area (that needs some help). The fish is great, the red sauce is delicious, the appetizers are amazing. The staff is very accommodating and gracious and it's part of the reason I hate giving the review only 3 stars. Here's the thing - if you are going to label yourself as a Prime restaurant, your food should all be prime quality. So if it isn't, then you shouldn't get a 5 star rating. So the negatives - my favorite thing at this restaurant has always been their polenta. Creamy deliciousness and paired with their marinara I could eat it every day. But this last time they went and messed it up and added corn kernels to it! Why?? What did the polenta ever do to deserve that level of sabotage? Moving on, from one Italian to the other, fix your eggplant parm. Ricotta does nothing for it. Do you add ricotta to chicken parm? No! So why insult the poor eggplant with it? Just the mozzi please! And that eggplant needs to be thicker cut otherwise it gets chewy in the mix. Also, throw in a vegan dish or two for the non-dairy folk. In summary, you should definitely check this place out at least once. Food: the menu has a diverse selection of high quality items that span upscale Italian to upscale steakhouse....all executed well. Stopped in to Carbone Prime for lunch. Nice ambiance, friendly and attentive staff, pretty expansive menu choices for lunch. We started with the Soup of the Moment, which was rich and hearty. Came in a small bowl but was still very filling. I ordered the Steak Grilled Cheese - a huge sandwich filled with steak slices covered with creamy, delish, melted provlone and carmelized onions - and accompanied by chips. I've visited Carbone's a few times over the last couple of years so I figured it's time to write a review. Consistently 4 stars. I've tried drinks, appetizers, several different meals and desserts and all have been of great quality. The service is always top notch from the friendliness to the attentiveness of the staff and the restaurant has a great ambiance for many types of occasions, whether it be a family dinner or date night. In my most recent visit, I tried the steak which was very tasty and probably my favorite meal yet. The prime steak sauce was a good accompaniment. From an app perspective, definitely try the calamari and the charcuterie plate. Finally, I'm pretty sure their desserts change seasonally. I came for New Year's Eve, it was my first time here and I enjoyed the experience very much. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They give a complimentary focaccia bread but in my opinion it was way too salty. For appetizers we started off with the steak spring rolls and the butternut bruschetta. The steak spring rolls were very good, they had a great flavor, my only complaint was it was a little on the greasy side but tasted so good it didn't really bother me. As for the butternut bruschetta, the ricotta was nice and light and the elderflower honey gave it a nice sweet taste. The bruschetta was made so well with the slightly crunchy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside! I loved it! For my entrée I ordered the boneless short rib that came with the mashed bourbon sweet potatoes and spinach. The sweet potatoes were to die for! They were delicious! As for the short rib it was very tender and they gave a huge portion, however it did not have much flavor. I tried to ask for more aus jus thinking it would help but it didn't unfortunately. They got the cooking down now if they can fix the flavor that dish would be top notch! Lastly for dessert I had the waffle sundae with gelato. I was very pleased. The waffle only had a nice sugary crunch on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. I will definitely be back here and recommend it to anyone in the area. read more

I can only speak to the happy hour at the bar as my few experiences here have only consisted of happy hour but they do a great job- omg the blood orange martini and Prime Cosmo are to die for- they do NOT skimp on the alcohol. 5 stars for the cocktails alone. For food we got a bit of everything on my recent visit (went for moms bday btw) and we started with a dozen oysters and some jumbo shrimp cocktail- delicious. Then we ordered the calamari (not a huge portion but it tasted great- spicy!) and the whipped ricotta which is a MUST! I could eat that ricotta on anything, everyday. YUM!! And the truffle fries (minus prosciutto) were soooooo great too. I have been twice to Carbone's Prime now and very unlike me--I have no pics to attach! That's wild. I think I was having such a fun time and enjoying the company that I really forgot to take pics. Twice! The first time I went, I had the Veal Saltimbocca- prosciutto di parma, fontina, fresh sage, sherry lemon butter, broccoli rabe and creamy polenta. I am a huge fan of this dish and it was great! The second time I went, we started with the Charcuterie Plate with prosciutto, hot soppressata, burrata, parmigiano-reggiano, artichoke & olive salad, local honeycomb and grilled bread. Oh, we loved that bread too!! My main meal was the Wagyu Burger with fontina, caramelized onions, roasted mushrooms, prime steak sauce and truffle fries. This was such a great burger! If I had to chose anything that I previously ordered, it would definietly be the burger! It really was so tasty and cooked perfectly. And the fries---yum!!! My 400th review!! What an excellent experience for a milestone review. Came here with two girlfriends who both highly recommended the place and I can see why! It has a very classy upscale vibe with friendly and professional servers. We started with drinks and the antipasto-- fabulous selection of meats, cheeses and other accompaniments. The bread that came next was warm and so addicting! For my entree, I got a pasta dish that is no longer on the menu, but it was amazing! Fresh sausage, lamb meatballs, beef ragu-- incredible, would order this again and again! Pan roasted duck and filet for my girlfriends and not one complaint! This review is specifically about the Nick's Pepperoni pizza dish and absolutely nothing else. I've never been inside the restaurant or tried any other meal from Carbone's. So many people have recommended "Nick's Pep" as one of the best pizzas ever so I had to try it. The result - No thanks! Don't get me wrong, it wasn't gross. It tasted fine and I ate it. But it did not taste like pizza and it left me wanting real pizza. All I could taste was the honey and pepperoni. Mostly, just the honey. If they would have used 25% of the honey they actually used, I might have liked it better. But who knows? This was way too sweet and overpowering. I could not taste the cheese, the sauce, or the dough/crust. It was like a dessert pizza. If it was part of a buffet, I'd have a small slice and love it. But much too heavy for a meal. So let's not make a novel out of this. Let's keep it simple. Do not get Nick's Pep. Get something else on the menu. Unless you have a fetish for honey. This place might be great, but Nick's Pep is not great. The people who say it's great know nothing about pizza. I'm giving 3 stars because maybe the restaurant is great. Nick's Pep is 1 star. We were seated at a table in the middle of the dining room, I was hoping for a booth but it was no biggie. The mood was set just right by the dim lighting. After looking over the drinks, I decided to start with the Apple Cider Margarita which I absolutely loved. For an app, we ordered the Chicken La Cava and we both really liked it. For my meal, I went with the Eggplant Parm and enjoyed it - the layers of eggplant and cheese were perfection. While eating our dinner I ordered another drink...Tito's Drunken Pumpkin. Unfortunately this drink was a miss for me - way too strong that I couldn't taste the pumpkin flavor at all. Instead of sending it back I just held my nose and chugged it. Food was good per usual but the service definitely needed to be worked on. My boyfriend and had a reservation Friday for 7 pm. We got seated promptly, which was great. When she came to ask us for our drinks we told her only one of us would like a coke and I would like to put our order in, she completely ignored the last sentence and left for 10 minutes to get our coke when we could have also put a food order in. Then, we noticed the server was talkative to every other table except us. I'm not sure if it was because my boyfriend was dressed down with a hoodie and she didn't think we would tip well. Of course our takeout lunch tabulated to a rather significant tab considering our eight handled shopping bags! Back at the office, the food which was individually ordered, had to be quickly confirmed before the hungry eyes latched on to their order. My order was a medium-rare bacon cheese burger on frrrresh roll with parmesan truffle fries on the side; delicious and still warm after having traveled. The others enjoyed their orders, too. On my second visit, it was a late Saturday afternoon in the office. I called home to get the "evening plan" and after some back & forth, we agreed I'd place an order to bring home. I drove over, the Prime was surprisingly busy at 5:00 pm. I requested a couple of burgers and salads to go. I was then ushered to a bar stool with a promise it will be ready in 30 minutes and I'd be notified. I enjoyed a draft and the atmosphere of the bar area. I noticed a lot of meals and appetizers being casually eaten around me, while I struck up small talk with neighboring customers on stools. Before I knew it 50 minutes had past and no sign of my order. It was time to personally check-in. "Oh yes sir, it's being kept warm in the kitchen." Hello, what happened to tapping me on the shoulder? Oh well, I brought the handled shopping bag home and with brief reheating the meal was enjoyed. If this was just a review of the food....I'd give it "five stars" all day long, for presentation and taste; and really, isn't that 90% of the value?! (Rhetorical) Last nights dinner had a VERY long wait, for service, and a plexiglass COVID barrier at our booth that was WAY too intrusive! I genuinely felt sorry for the difficulty the plexiglass barrier presented to the Waitstaff! My wife and I were there with another couple, who noted a conflict in the time that "Happy Hour" ended. One source said 5:30 (online) and the restaurant stated 5:00 PM. When we pointed out the difference, you'd think they might have shown our dinner guests some deference for pointing this out, so that the marketing folks could correct the mistake; but "no." Not even a, "how about a glass of wine; on the house." Apparently the Rocky Hill location we went to, clean and busy as it was, is not the only location. I can't speak for the other location(s). I booked my reservation for 7:00 pm. I arrived at 6:55 and they were back up. People that came after us were getting seated sooner. We waited by the door till 7:20 and I went up to ask why we didn't have a table yet. The lady said that someone took my reservation under my name and she apologized. That made me upset because why wouldn't you state the full name if there's someone with the same name? We were seated within five minutes after I spoke with her. I love coming to Carbone but I strongly believe that a holiday like Valentine's Day makes the quality of the food and drinks mediocre. My husband's drink was watered down and filled with ice, we both order steak medium- His was very bloody and all of our food was lacking in seasoning. Shortly after we left my husbands stomach was upset and we both now have food poisoning.
