We went to Carbones Prime for dinner, and it was very yummy. My husband and I both had the filet mignon with gorgonzola butter and mashed potatoes and asparagus. Everything was cooked perfectly. We had a waffle sundae for dessert. A waffle with ice cream on top. OMG!!!! Delicious!! The restaurant was extremely busy, but the service was good. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Came on a Wednesday night, table for 2. Our waiter was very attentive and kept our glasses filled but we had trouble understanding him, he was almost singing everything he was saying and it was a little awkward. I ordered 20 oz bone in ribeye, it was delicious and cooked to my liking. My SO's Veal parm and cavatelli had an excessive amount of red sauce. I believe this would have been very good if it wasn't drowning in sauce. Same with Cesar salad, had potential but drowned in dressing. We were given complimentary bread with onions, my boyfriend doesn't eat onions so we requested bread without onions. Upon receiving the bill, we were charged $2 extra for the bread. My steak was $65, charging extra to give bread without onions is absurd and had me doubt the integrity of the restaurant. -1 star for the overload of sauce and -1 star for penny pinching patrons. I've always loved this place. FOOD: Good quality entree's, apps and drinks. The only complaint I would have about the food is that they should cook their eggplant in the eggplant Parmesan longer. Eggplant is that difficult vegetable to prepare, so with that being said I've had eggplant parm there and it was too slimy and way too many seeds in it. My family and I came on a Friday night thinking that we would have to wait for a table. To our surprise, we were seated immediately. The whole staff was very welcoming all night. The service was slower than we liked but this gave us the chance to admire how nice the restaurant is. We ordered the Bruschetta Trio. All three were excellent, a perfect light dish to share with others to start off your night. After our waiter shared the specials, I decided on the Stuffed Portobello Mushroom. We start a New Year's Eve off at Carbones prime in Rocky Hill Connecticut. It was quite the experience it superseded my expectations. I start it off with a drink called Nonino Bombino it was a Prosecco-based appetizer drink that did serve its purpose it was very good very light and put me in a fantastic mood for the rest of the night. We couldn't choose between appetizers so we got to we got 2. The steak eggrolls which did not disappoint. They were a tad bit greasy but they were so good you really could look past it. Very nice meat/cheese ratio and the aioli sauce was perfect. the next time I get them will ask for extra napkins to dab off some of the grease. We also had the butternut squash bruschetta which was tasty but the texture is not something that I am a fan of. There were hints of honey that pulled the flavor together. My main meal was the short rib which was very tender and very tasty especially when everything was eaten all together. It came with spinach and mashed sweet potatoes which were my absolute favorite! For dessert I shared a Oreo waffle sundae that came with vanilla and chocolate gelato topped with whip cream. I really enjoyed the waffle which I could have eaten alone! Had a great time at Carbone's the other evening! Our table was certainly in need of coffee and alcohol and their espresso martinis we're the perfect combination and made deliciously. We order a number of appetizers and I can say the calamari and the Burrata salad were my favorites. I am dreaming about the fresh Burrata and the fresh flavors that came with it. For my entree, I ordered the Chicken Alfredo. It was creamy and cooked perfectly and quite yummy. I do have to say that it was quite oily though, so I may try to go for something lighter in the future, but the bread they had for the table did help sop some of it up, making the entire meal enjoyable. I have had dinner numerous times at Carbone's Prime and have been very satisfied until last night. Last night my chicken parm tasted like rubber and you could not cut it with a fork like usual. The waitress apologized and removed the dish and notified the manager. The manager did come to the table, but never apologized for the poor quality or even said sorry for ruining my dinner with my wife and daughter. She did offer to have me select anther item, but I was so disappointed with her lack of empathy and the fact that she took no responsibility for the poor quality thar I could not make my family wait. I raved about Carbone's previously, but the attitude and response of the manager has left a bad taste in my mouth that is far beyond the rubbery chicken that was served. Mistakes happen, but I expected so much more from the manager in rectifying the situation and caring about preserving the dining experience. read more

I usually don't leave negative reviews. I just don't say anything, but I feel I have to warn people trying to have a nice dinner. Do not come here if you are looking for a nice, authentic meal. Their sauce is very subpar and their steaks? Underwhelming. I have been here several times. I was never blown away, but this last time takes the cake. I ordered a rib eye. I have rib eye steak a lot. I mean a lot a lot. It's one of my favorite foods. When it came out it was cooked just to my liking, but I could tell it was a ny strip. I took a bite and was further convinced. I sent a picture to my father who is the best Italian chef and I'm not just saying that cause he's my dad. He truly is. Owned several restaurants, the whole nine. He said it was a ny strip. I was not going to send it back, just happily eat it and share it with my seven year old who could care less what type of steak it was. But I was with friends who knew I was not happy and told the waiter she won't eat this. So the waiter kindly said we can make you a new steak. I tried to say it was fine whatever but my friends insisted that I get a rib eye since that's what I was paying good money for. The last straw for me was when the chef came out of the kitchen to show me a rib eye and proceed to explain what a rib eye looks like "see here this is the round marbling" at that point there could be nooo going back. The service was excellent, the food was cooked to perfection, and the drinks were superb and stronger than the average cocktail. I can't recommend this restaurant enough! We will certainly be back! I'm very picky about the quality of my steaks but this place didn't disappoint. My wife had the scallops... not over or undercooked. They did have a slight hint of spice. I don't know what happened to Carbone's Prime. My friends & I hadn't been there in a while but we enjoyed the food during our previous visits. It was not what we experienced in the past. I was running a few minutes behind my friends, so the hostess guided me to the table. The lobby & bar area are very bright and the dining room is extremely dark. Your eyes can't adjust fast enough, so you can't see where you're walking. The hostess stopped in the middle of the dining room, pointed towards the back and said something that I couldn't hear as she walked away. I couldn't see my friends and walked past the table. Sooner or later, someone is going to trip or fall in that lighting. The best that I can say is that the meals looked & tasted as if they were pre-cooked & reheated for the Saturday night diners. That may work with the pasta dishes but it doesn't work for steaks. Two of us ordered the $85 surf & turf special which was a filet mignon and lobster. The filet tasted like it was steamed - it reminded me of microwaving leftover steak for lunch. The lobster was a tiny thing with 1 claw - the tail was about 1 inch long, barely a forkful of lobster meat. We were not offered any butter for the lobster or any sauces for the filet. Worse yet, our server did not return to ask if we needed anything. When she did return, we had given up on our meals. The appetizers & desserts were better than the meal entrees. However, I don't think we'll be returning to Carbone's Prime. read more

I'm sad to have left feeling like I was ripped off. I asked for a bourbon under $14 and instead I was charged $27 for a single glass of bourbon. I also asked for the steak Pittsburgh blue and the steak came out medium. I asked them to refund the overage on the whiskey and they offered me a $20 gift certificate "for next time" but no refund. I do not live close by so I told them I would like a refund and they said no. Then they offered me a desert to go or another drink. I'm sad to leave a bad review but I do not feel like they did right by the customer because I asked for a bourbon that was less than $14. Let me be clear also, I made a mistake by asking them to run my card even before they showed me the bill- that's on me. Pros: That said, the steak was pretty tasty. Friendly staff and convenient location. They sort of tried to make up for the bourbon issue. Tiffany and I (my new fianceé as of 12/5/2018 #HeyBoo) LOVE eating out at different restaurants all over for new experiences as well as new flavors, but that can get quite costly. When the restaurant week comes around, no matter what city we're in, we take full advantage of it! Carbone's Prime was the choice of the evening since it was really new and we brought the whole family out with us. Here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: This place can be found right on Cromwell Avenue off of I-91 in Rocky Hill. It comes with its own large parking lot, so no need to worry about finding spaces here! This place is enormous, but it doesn't give you that feel due to the separate sections. Once walking in you are greeted by the host stand. To the left you have the bar area, which was quite lively on a Saturday night! If you go through the bar and walk all the way to the back you reach the bathrooms and the cool raw bar section! It's so tucked away back there you'd miss it entirely if you never had to use the bathroom. You can then make a right, walk through the raw bar and hang another Randy the boom, you're in another dining room. One big circle. I enjoyed the dim lighting, high ceilings, dark wood floors, large comfortable booths and mature atmosphere that was presented. It really gave me a great "steakhouse" feeling. Service: Timothy was awesome. He was sweet, kind, knowledgeable, fast, funny and had a great personality. He made sure we had everything we needed throughout our dinner even if it was our 3rd basket of delicious bread. Lol. Food: Like I mentioned earlier we are here for CT Restaurant Week. So you get the chance to have 3 courses (4 if you include the delicious varieties of bread) all for 1 price or add a couple more bucks for a "premium choice". I didn't take the high road, so I started with the Chicken Lacava which is crispy bacon wrapped around grilled chicken and a hot stuffed cherry pepper wedged in there somehow. I liked these little guys. You got 3 all pre-stabbed with a toothpick so they're ready to eat. They had a hint of sweetness from the cherry pepper, but were spicy and salty as well. Delicious. For my entree course I chose the 10 oz Hanger Steak. I was super satisfied with my choice it was cooked perfectly. It came with mashed potatoes and asparagus served with a house-made steak sauce. The portion was just right and left me in a good spot... with just enough space for tiramisu! Four layers of hazelnutty goodness topped with whipped cream and a raspberry syrup. It was delicious and an excellent sweet finish to an awesome dinner. Value: The 3 courses this year were $30.18. If you wanted to upgrade to the short ribs or bone-in ribeye for an additional $15.00. It's a very good deal seeing as some of the entrees on the regular menu were $30.00 on their own without appetizers or dessert. I'm assuming next year the price will go up to $30.19... if they decide to participate in Restaurant Week again. I loved this place and am very interested in exploring the rest of their menu. Their raw bar and happy hour looks okay too, so who knows what the future holds! read more

We were looking for a place to celebrate our anniversary so we decided to try out Prime. I was impressed with the decor, it looked so nice inside. We got seated right away in a booth. For apps, we decided on calamari and split a Caesar salad. Calamari had a light and crispy breading which was fantastic, I also like that there are peppers to give it a kick. Marinara and aioli were perfect dipping sauces. Caesar was perfectly dressed and tasted house-made, delicious. Focaccia bread came out with our appetizers and it was amazingly garlicky, oily and delicious. My entree was a special for the day- surf and turf which was a filet with half lobster, asparagus and mashed potatoes. My husband got the Calabrian chicken or what the waitress called "Vinny's chicken". Everything was cooked perfectly. Steak was tender, lobster was not over cooked and the chicken was very juicy and had a lot of flavor. Mashed potatoes were very creamy. Overall, I was very impressed. Service was also amazing and gave us a small dessert with a candle for our celebration. My only nit was that it was very pricey, for example my surf and turf was $60. I think that we can get a similar meal at one of the other fancy steakhouses for $40-50 less. However, since the service was great and we had a good time, we would come back again to try the happy hour or other dinner entrees. read more

My first time I dined at Carbone's Prime in December 2017 the place was amazing, food, service ambiance etc. I decided to celebrate a special occasion today since I was so impressed with this new restaurant. My second visit was not so pleasant. Let me say that if you are going to use the word PRIME in the name you must be close to flawless not to mention, I hold the Carbone's family to a much higher standard given their years in the restaurant business. The food here is great period! Kudos to the chef and kitchen. The problem lies on the staff which is not attentive and neither is the Managment given that I never saw them when I was waiting to order a drink or that fact I had to ask three times for lemon for my wife's water. Remember...they are PRIME right. I read in other posts that Managment wants to know if your not happy...well walk the floor and ask your customers during dinner so you can do something about it. The tables reminded me of a Denny's. This is a PRIME restaurant so where is the linen?? I could have sworn they had linens on the tables in 2017. This PRIME place has cut corners and it is disappointing. As for the food the oysters were fresh and very flavorful, the truffle cauliflower was delicious and the stuffed veal Marsala was over the top. I will likely not be back as I prefer the whole package when I dine at a PRIME restaurant, plenty of better options in the Hartford area. I suggest this place either step it up or drop the word Prime. read more

Went with a group of 5. It was a busy night, but even so, seating was quick and our waitress was incredibly professional and friendly. On to our meal... We ordered 2 plates of calamari as appetizers, and we enjoyed the bread that came too. They have a unique butter rather than using normal butter. Drinks wise, we ordered the orange martini, a southern comfort manhattan, Mojito, and Cape Cod. I wasn't a fan of my martini ( I only like sweet drinks) so the waitress gave me a Moscato instead, which was good. For dinner, I ordered the filet mignon, which was perfect. Not the best one I've ever had, but definitely high up in the charts. We also got the scallops (which were a great size), 2 orders of the salmon, and the Zippa. We enjoyed every bite. Initial service was ok. Large crowd of people in the entrance area but most were overflowing from the bar. The dining are was nicely lit with a comfy feel- however I was seated in the center of the dining room in a small two seat table surrounded by empty booths. It was very uncomfortable- the table was very small- the entrance way at my back- not comfortable at all- I requested to be moved to a booth but was told that they were reserved for larger groups. The entire time I "dined" at this establishment, couple after couple were sat in every single booth around me until I was very aware that I was discriminated against to some degree: I could not understand. Furthermore, the charcuterie board was delicious! Fresh and tasty and amazing! However -the main course- the steak- was unseasoned, tough and was a ny strip without the strip! Not an ounce of tenderness or flavor. I was so sad. My husband, broke his tooth chewing this steak. No lie his entire half cuspid broke off and he is getting tooth restoration. $171.00 and a big tip later (bc it wasn't the servers fault) we left with one less tooth, extreme disappointment in our seating, treatment, and our date night which was planned in advance with child care and all was ruined. I went there on Saturday night for a family dinner (6 people). We were seated in the side room past the bar an immediately smelled a fishy urine smell. We requested to be reseated and the hostess asked if it was just the fish smell, I replied, urine too but she refused to change our table. We stayed anyway, a big mistake. The smell did not go away and another couple confirmed that they smelled it too. We finished our meal and I immediately e-mailed Carbones about the problem. They did not see fit to respond (it has now been three days). I guess they know about the problem but do not choose to address it. We won't be back. read more

My wife and I are of the mindset that we do not mind paying a little more for a good,quality meal with professional service. We have been vastly disappointed lately in one of the subpar meals with higher prices we have received. Not so at Prime. Our experience started with the great service offered by our server ,Kirsten. She was professional, attractive, knowledgeable and very pleasant. We started our meals with 2 different, signature martinis, watermelon for my wife and key lime for myself. Absolutely wonderful, my only regret is that I didn't order mine for desert. We ordered the Rhode Island calamari and a shrimp cocktail to split. The calamari was exactly as we enjoy, crispy and light batter with small rings ,tentacles and hot cherry peppers along with fresh marinara and a spicy aoli. The shrimp cocktail was 4 generous sized shrimp and a good cocktail sauce. The best part is the generous dollop of horseradish on the sauce allowing the customer to mix it to their liking. The bread served is a crispy focaccia with whipped butter and olive oil. We split a nice,crispy cesear salad, a great lead in to our mains. I ordered the Calabrian Chicken, a good portion of juicy chicken over wonderful Mashed potatoes and broccoli Rabe along with a spicy sauce including hot cherry peppers and sausage. My wife got the fish and chips special which was a generous portion of crispy fried tempura shrimp, crispy hot fries and a creamy slaw. She loved it. We ended up taking home a sizable portion of both of our meals. We will definitely be back as we have now found a new,favorite restaurant to add to our rotation. read more

Tried Carbone's Prime last night with some friends and we were not disappointed. We started with the charcuterie and clams casino and both were excellent. We had a couple of nice bottles of wine. One rose and one Italian red. I had the chicken special which was rotisserie chicken with pesto pasta that was excellent. My wife had the veal saltimbocca and she was very happy with it. Overall a very nice meal, service was excellent and we will add Carbone's Prime to our rotation of go to spots. read more
