I really only come to this store for a few items so my shopping trips aren't long. I do think the service in the prepared foods section leaves alot to be desired so I havent gotten tacos/burritos etc since it's changed into Cardenas. I recommend going earlier in the morning if you can because they will have lines to the back of the store and still only have two cashiers. They do offer self-check out but at least one of those machines is down every time that I go and that line can get long too. The biggest complaint I have about this store is that you have to pay extra attention to the expiration dates. I have seen expired salsa so many times (the Cardenas brand) so be sure to check. The prices are good on produce but certain things always look old. I know that there are nation-wide food chain issues but other local grocery stores still have fresher options. Grocery bags here are also 5 cents higher than the other grocery stores in town. read more

Cheese and green chili had one tiny piece of chili surrounded by chewy, flavorless cheese. The chile verde tamales had just a tiny smear of meat inside. This store has the most rudest cashiers , at regular check out and at the restaurant area . first I was trying to get a gift card for my son , and wanted to pay with it using my debit card , NOT credit card , the cashier that was helping said they only take cash for gift cards . I've never heard of this policy before . She was kind enough to double check with a another cashier , and she was extremely rude . They should have a sign by their gift cards that says Cash only even though I think that's a very dumb policy . At the restaurant side , I was trying to buy an agua fresca , and the lady that was supposed to charge me for it completely ignored me and went about her business so the other lady helping other people in line was kind enough to charge me for it instead of making me wait. I love this place! Groceries are decently priced and they have a huge selection of meat, pantry staples etc. Best tortilla's and chips. The hot food bar also sells items in bulk, many times I'll grab a lb of carnitas and rice to bring home for dinner. The only complaint is the fruit and veggies. I ordered 3 items from the hot food section, 1 Pupusas, 1 Steak Super Burrito, 1 plate rice beans and pork. I paid for the 3 Items the girl at register ask the male cook to make my burrito as I patiently waited for my burrito to be build. I asked him to cook my steak meat on the well done side and he did. As he was adding my meat to my burrito he add one small scoop one small scoop rice one small scoop beans. He tried rolling my burrito as it was poorly being rolled. I kept waiting patiently and the male cook saw he had to go on break and just decided to leave my burrito on the counter known that I was there for him to give it to me. So than I asked the young lady is my burrito is ready? She asked the cooked did I pay? He said no and than he asked her if I payed? She said no knowing that she had took my order 5 minutes ago. This is where I began to get frustrated and said como no saying what do you mean? I answered here is my Reciet showing that I paid for it. They were being very unprofessional, customer service sucked, portion of the food sucked, them playing stupid knowing that I had already paid just made me very uncomfortable and upset. Living in Southern California I'm spoiled with a number of Cardenas Markets and their yummy food court. This one should be ashamed to be called Cardenas Market. Space: is large and open, and I thought was great with their many tables and chairs. They do not have a self serve salsa and condiment bar (located behind the glass so servers have to pack for you), so that was a major disappointment. Especially considering my request for some salsa and seasoned carrots and onions, the server was very stingy and didn't bother giving me any carrots or onions. Service: referring to the above, the server/cashier also made me wait for her to change out the cash register without letting me know. She also took her time to the point someone had to ask me if I was in line. This cashier at the food court (11/28/18) also acknowledged I wanted condiments but did not or pretended to forget to give me my seasoned carrots and onions. When I asked about the lengua if there was enough, she was stirring the small bin and tbh there wasn't much in there. Yet she was confident there was enough. Uh huh. Why is this Cardenas so STINGY?! Food: let's just say, it really isn't the same. It's just disappointing all around. Overall: 1 Star and most likely if I come back I will have words with a manager. read more

This store is okay at best. I was super excited to come here because to my knowledge there are no other similar stores nearby. I specifically went for the pre- made food and to see what products I would find. Based on just the pre-made food I would not return. I purchased pupusas and they were not great at all. I usually don't like to throw away food, but I just couldn't see myself finishing them- it was just masa. The pupusas were also not labeled, so the person who helped me had to open them to see what was inside. The store itself is also just okay, and based on their selection i would not return. I go here several times a week because the produce is cheaper here than other stores. The downside is the customer service. I was doing self-check out and the bar code wouldn't scan, I asked the attendant to help, she tried scanning it a couple of times and couldn't either. She told me I need to go get another one. I had already scanned a few items and I had my two babies in the cart so I couldn't run back without taking them with me. She just stood there not offering to ask someone to pick one up for me like they do at most grocery stores. Finally I said, "I guess I just won't get Tortillas today. " she stood there unphased... so I just scanned the rest of my items and left. Hopefully they'll improve customer service. read more

Just really disappointing that the people who work there don't seem to give a crap at all about customer service. The area to order hot food is the worst. The people are sullen, never smile and do their best to ignore the customer. It seems like at times they pretend not to understand one bit of English just to be obstinate. I say this because whsn I switched to Spanish the result was still mostly blank sullen stares. The cashier guy saw me standing in line and when I got to the front he pushed me over to the guy actually making tacos and burritos to make my order. That guy seems confused by this and basically really unhappy and not interested in hearing me. They tried to ring me up for super burritos when I clearly ordered and received regular ones. The part that was so bad it was almost funny... the cashier saw people in-line and decided he would go chop onions instead of manning the cash register or taking orders. He just stood there working on onions while the line got longer. Finally a women from the department next to this told him to go back and help the people waiting in line. No smiles, no friendl, act as of they hope you never return. Go to the lovely people at Taqueria La Estrella on Georgia instead. They have drive thru and you feel important there. I like the store, you have a good variety of groceries. However, it would be best for management to educate the staff to properly wear their face mask. I was so annoyed today by the fact that 2 employees were wearing their facemask on their chin, not on where it should go (covering mouth and nose completely). Every time I go to your store I see employees not wearing their mask properly, it defeats the purpose of wearing one. It's gross when people take down their facemask to talk and get near the sneeze guard that cover the food. Unacceptable! Don't do it! First off for the hot food the line situation is confusing. I wanted to get Papusa's which were being made at the beginning of the line where you order burritos ext..I was ordering tacos and they told me I have to go to the other side where they sale the soups and cooked meat by the pound for the papusa then get back in line again to pay. So I didn't get any papusa's that day. This next visit I went for menudo, I got home and noticed all this white cottage cheese like fat stuck to the tripe and floating in the broth which means they didn't clean the tripe. Cardenas Market, formerly known as Mi Pueblo Food Center, is the largest Mexican style supermarket around Vallejo. Before Cardenas took over the Mi Pueblo franchise, this store was great. They had products which you can't find elsewhere, their staff was friendly, and everything still stood up to the review I made for it back in 2011. Now, since Cardenas took over, the selection and quality of food has gone down considerably. They seem to have less Americanized Mexican food such as the Garibaldi Tamales, which is a letdown because I can't find them anywhere anymore. The juice bar has been moved to the taqueria with a reduced selection. Beyond all that, the worst thing they have done is put mixed veggies in the spanish rice AND all rice in burritos. It's disgusting. Until they take the bagged veggies out of their rice. I can't recommend their taqueria. However, the price for produce still beats out many other supermarkets in the area. read more

Went there for the first time. They had everything I needed for a Taco Tuesday at home. All the ingredients I needed were easy to find and affordable. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. This place has gone downhill severely and rapidly after taking over Mi Pueblo. PRODUCE - no longer fresh. Most things wilted and close to rotten. Basil, leeks, cabbage, oranges, apples, cilantro, mint, tomatoes, green/yellow/white onions, AVOCADO are low-quality and high-priced compared to before. I would automatically go to Mi Pueblo for avocados, but now other groceries like Safeway have higher-quality avocado at lower prices (never thought I'd ever say that!). Don't even carry shallots any more and guess where I found them? Yes Safeway!!! MEATS - chicken dried out and wrinkly. Smelled old and on edge of rotting. Same with beef and pork, all old smelling and goes bad within a day or 2 after you get it home. Stunk up my fridge like sewer! CANNED GOODS - used to buy refried black beans with jalapeno. Mi Pueblo used to carry two brands of this. Not a single can in entire store. I get it from other groceries or even Walmart! KITCHEN COUNTRE - used to buy pre-made ingredients for family dinners: carnitas and chicharrones. Last time I bought carnitas, it was dried out around edges and lacked flavour. Not sure how that's possible since you just throw a pig on top of fire and that's it. But somehow Carnedas has managed to screw that up, probably getting low quality meats to begin with. I occasionally roast my own pig on spit or underground with coals, and if you cut corners, it will turn out badly. Too many profit-driven changes after change of ownership. Employee morale is down, they are no longer happy & cheerful, and eager to help like before. I will no longer be spending my money here. read more

If you need to get produce from a Mexican market, DO NOT go here! When Mi Pueblo was here their produce wasn't rotting, the pan dulce wasn't expensive and it was tasty, there used to be at least 5 guys at the carniceria, there was always a like at the prepared food. Now the produce is cheap but you have to dig to make sure it's not rotted. The pan dulce is expensive and it's stale. The meat looks nice but it stinks like it's gone bad. And then there's the cashiers: RUDE! I went a few weeks ago with my Madre, called from the car and spoke with the manager to complain about their lack of customer service. She said "I'll speak to the manager for the front end so we can address the issue". Well, it wasn't addressed because I went there yesterday and low and behold RUDENESS was spewing from the young lady who helped us. From now on I will be going to La Tapatia or El 2 de Oros. When I made mention of the lack of customer service at these establishments I did notice a change the next time I went. I got a complete dinner package when I was shopping about six months ago and the chicken was dry and the steak was so salty and tough. The beans were so watered down they were liquid and also too salty to eat. I hadn't been back but my daughter went and bought a family dinner from there last night and again the steak was so salty we couldn't eat it. I even tried to add more meat to it to tone down the salt and it was still inedible. The rice would have been good if they added more seasoning, it tasted bland. And the soupy beans were too salty to eat. We shop for food but won't eat there any more. There tamales taste good but they are 95% masa and not worth buying. The food was better before they were Cardenas. And the food court people are short and rude, if your not Hispanic. Someone should tell them that non Hispanic people can understand and speak Spanish. read more

Every time I walk in here, I roam the aisles over and over again....mostly because the staff here are never really welcoming off the bat. After I wait about five minutes at their food counter and someone finally talks to me, I speak to them in Spanish and then everything is honky dory. But until then, I think they avoid conversation in English. Once I do get them, they're generally nice and helpful. The meat counter is the same experience too. Soley reviewing for bakery and beverage isles. I live in Seattle and while we have our fair share of Mexican grocers they are usually the size of a corner store and the stock can be hit or miss. I usually have to scramble between a few of them to get what I'm looking for. From the sights of it this place has a decent deli and meat department. Some items seemed to be sitting out for awhile otherwise I'd have probably gone a little crazy at the deli. My boyfriend used to go here when it was Mi Pueblo and said it used to be better. That being said we were still very happy to stock up on conchas and chicharrones. Our drive back to our wetland state we snacked on the massive bag of chicharrones with some Valentinos and Jumex the whole ride home. All of the baked goods were fresh, the chicharrones perfectly crunchy. For a quick snack this is a definite stop before we leave town. read more
