    Cronut
    Maggie W.

I was brought here by a local to grab a variety of pastries after getting coffee nearby. I love the old time feel of walking into the bakery and everything being right there in front of your face. We ended up getting a handful of items all which were delicious and the service was, friendly and helpful. Had to get a chocolate cronut, of course.

Asked for the turkey because I can't eat pork and they put ham on there really sucks that I had to throw the whole thing in the garbage.

Carlocks has boba teas! And they're pretty good. I'm also a huge fan of their savory pastries, quiche, and fresh baguettes. Their iced coffee is also legit for when the line at Starbucks is outta control. Around the holidays I preorder their very pretty cookie tray and giant danish. All in all this is a lovely neighborhood bakery!

The counter service was fast. I enjoyed slice of German chocolate cake, which was delicious especially the chocolate icing. The inside reminded me of vintage bakery yet they had a creative display of baked goods and themed cookies.

I forgot that I was here a couple weeks ago, fried pies, I think the best was the cronuts, they were freaking great! I only get to come to Los Osos every once in awhile, but now I know that when I come here I will definitely get some cronuts.

Disappointed. The boysenberry pastry was dry and not at all flaky. Don't bother stopping here.

Terrible place now with new owners! It's so sad I used to take my daughter to get really good quality treats and now it's just awful.

Wayward Baking is one of my favorite bakeries of 2026…read more 1. I've only heard great things about Wayward Baking so I had some expectations - each one of them was met and then some. This bakery is simply amazing and everything I tried was so good. 2. I ordered a kouign amann, chocolate croissant, morning bun, double chocolate cookie, and two caneles. If I could order more, I would've added a rice pudding danish, basque cheesecake slice, and madeleine. I love that when standing in line, you can peek into the kitchen to see what the bakers are working on. It's really nice to see the process and work that go into everything. 3. Their chocolate croissant is my ideal chocolate croissant. I love when the outer layer is crisp and the inner layers are soft and buttery. The caneles were yummy - they were crispy on the outside, custardy on the inside, and the flavor was perfect. I loved the double chocolate cookie as well, it had great texture and the flavor was very balanced - not too sweet! 4. Even if it's a bit out of the way, I would absolutely come back every time I'm in the area.

I really wanted to like Wayward Bakery. There aren't many bakeries in the area, and when we…read morevisited, this seemed like one of the more promising options. The space itself is cute and has the feel of a neighborhood hangout, and the pastries are beautifully presented. Unfortunately, the pastries were hit or miss. Some were nice and flaky, while others tasted a little stale. The ham and cheese croissant was served cold, which was disappointing. We also tried the strawberry danish and tomato danish, and both were pretty mid. The standout, however, was their seasonal fig and walnut danish--that one was actually really good and something I would have ordered again. Their drink selection is also pretty limited. It was essentially coffee and hot chocolate when we visited. As more of a tea person, I was disappointed that there weren't any tea options, and they didn't have juices either. The main reason for my low rating, though, was our interaction with the staff member who took our order. She came across as very rude and repeatedly made impatient tapping sounds while we were ordering. We were ordering quite a few items, and the interaction made me feel rushed and as though we were inconveniencing her simply by placing a larger order. At first, I assumed she might just be having a bad day. But while we sat and ate our pastries, I watched her interact with other customers, and her demeanor was noticeably different--warm, friendly, and welcoming. That contrast made our experience even more uncomfortable. We were the only Asians in the store at the time, and while I obviously can't know what motivated her behavior, the difference in how we were treated compared with the customers who came after us left me wondering whether our race played a role. That's a serious conclusion, and I don't make it lightly. I can only speak to what I personally observed and how the interaction made me feel. Unfortunately, it overshadowed the entire visit. Even with a couple of good pastries, I wouldn't come back.

I purchased the pain au levain, in lieu of a baguette, for $12. The price is pretty steep for a loaf, but seems to be the going rate for these smaller boutique bake shops. The bread itself was warm when I purchased it, which was awesome. Enjoyed it with my coffee, but did find it to be a little doughy on the inside. Good flavor, but not something I would come back for. I'd rate it a solid 3.5. I also purchased the chocolate chip cookies. I think I completely went brain dead when I bought these, because I did read they were gluten-free and vegan, but still bought the pack of 6. Man, they looked like chocolate chip cookies, but didn't taste like chocolate to me, at all. For a regular chocolate chip cookie lover, it's a 1 star. For someone looking for a gluten-free and vegan cookie, this could be a winner. Maybe.

Hello! You had me at absolutely charming!…read more First of all, I've never been to Morro Bay and it was probably the only torrential rainy day in a Century. Being from Seattle, I'm nothing but used to the rain. But this little visit to the bakery warmed my heart. As we drove to the bakery we stopped at Morro Rock, , so I could actually see the amazing 23 million year old monolith. So fun to see the surfers out there! As we started driving into a neighborhood to get to the basket, I was like, "What? Am I going to Gramma's house?" And then, we pull into the freaking cutest little beach house with a garden that made the bleakest day make you feel like sunshine and rainbows. Upon entry, the baked spices and smells blow your olfactories! Yummm! We felt the young lady was very overwhelmed with all the baking!! And maybe our dumbfoundedness was overwhelming. Or maybe I was overwhelmed with so many amazing options and goodies!! She had just pulled something out of the oven. We ordered lemon curd and raspberry tarts, brownies, curry croissants, ham and cheese croissant, french onion soup croissant and some other cookie that someone snuck in on the sly. Sadly, there was no seating there, so we had to take everything to go. Luckily we were only 10 min away. Everything was epically delicious. Especially the flaky curry croissants!!!! They really know how to do it!!! If we had more time we would try their bread. I can't imagine what this place is like when it's peak season but it must be crazy! It is a must visit!!!

We were lucky enough to snag the last almond croissant, and what a treat it was. The exterior had a sweet, delicate crunch, and with each bite, rich almond filling oozed out for the perfect balance of texture and flavor. It wasn't overloaded with powdered sugar, and the sweetness was just right--indulgent without being overwhelming. I also tried a slice of the salmon and leek quiche. It was light and fluffy while still feeling substantial and satisfying. The combination of savory salmon and sweet leek worked beautifully together. Whether you're starting your morning or looking for a midday pick-me-up, the quiche is a must-try. I was excited to try the house made mango-infused black iced tea, but unfortunately, there was nothing mango flavored about it That said, this bakery is still well worth a visit. Between the pastries and quiche, it is an easy stop to recommend when you're in Morro Bay.

It was nice to find a salad that was not from the regular salad templates that are on every menu. Loved the crunchies on it, mixed greens, broccoli, and cauliflower.
