We were customers here for many years. However, the company has a policy of annual price hikes, regardless of whether there's inflation or a lower cost of interest on their financing. Their continuing price hikes, at a time when cost is commercial financing declined, became insulting to the point of untenable. When I noted this to the on-site staff today as a reason we downsized, I was told that "well, rent increases are negotiable". In other words, the staff has confirmed that I've been taken advantage of by this company in exchange for my customer loyalty. Buyer beware. Update: I received a call from management to discuss the situation. While the management representative was courteous and professional, we continue to have a fundamental difference of opinion on what are and are not fair and reasonable rate increases against a difficult economy with lower costs of capital. Fundamentally, the business model of this facility is engineered in a manner which provides a lack of incentives such as longevity discounts for loyal customers. That is their legitimate right to decide, and the business representative weas very honest and forthright about their opinion. I just think it's unfortunate that they made this business decision. Know what you're getting into. read more

The service was friendly and helpful..no complaints concerning this. When I called for price there was no mention of administrative cost, insurance, and need for a special lock, so that the final cost was nearly twice the initial quote. Next time I'll ask more questions. read more

I have used this storage company for years and they have always been very professional and prices are very reasonable. The facility is always clean, never have encountered any rodents or evidence of pests. There are supplies and water and coffee available in the office and they have Sunday hours. The reception I received from Ron & Patty O'Day (mgrs.) provided a very positive and uplifting piece to a very difficult task. The service I received was made me feel like a VIP, including immediate delivery and superb follow-up. When it came time to return unused materials, they were very liberal in what they would take back. I've every reason to believe that this is their approach to every customer, large or small. I would give 5 stars were I rating Tammi but because the hours are so limited in comparison to other facilities within walking distance I'm giving 4 stars. Tammi is incredible helpful, knowledgable and very customer service focused! I actually look forward to going in when she is working which is incredible given the level of anxiety I can harbor when "dealing" with my "stuff" .I realize the degree of security required to staff for longer hours but given the percentage occupancy and higher costs relative to comp set, perhaps polling your tenants would be a worthy exercise? I was referred to this place by the owner of Day & Knight Moving Co since it fit my needs. I then checked their references here on Yelp and was satisfied. I arrived on the final day of our big move after a long, hot day of packing and cleaning. Just needed to store items that we needed easy access to during our 2 week wait for our new home. I chose a 5x10 on the ground floor because I couldn't bear the idea of any more stair climbing after the week I'd had. Price was reasonable and the unit was spotless. There is a cart to get items from your car to your unit. I got a free lock with Yelp deal as well as 50% off my first (and only) month's rent. Registration and payment were seamless and the whole process (from arriving to paying to off-loading my truck to leaving) took about 45 minutes. read more

I just purchased some boxes from this co. for moving, including 2 wardrobe boxes. The wardrobe boxes would not fit in my car, parked outside their window, so I immediately I brought them back in and asked for a refund. The clerk initially thought I could not get a refund, but the manager Kraig gave me a credit and wrote me a nice message. All a misunderstanding. This is a very nice storage facility in a convenient location and I appreciate the personal attention. read more

I have had a problem with this facility since day one. I went through the website that gave me a 50% discount on the first months rent with ACH. What they failed to tell me was that you get hit with an additional $3 a month charge for the ACH, which was not listed in their ad. I feel I should be given a discount for guaranteeing timely payment of my bill, not penalized for it. When I went to upgrade the size of my space, I checked the pricing online. When called to speak with the management, the prices were almost $80 more per month than quoted online. They did not seem to care when I said I can get the same sized unit at another facility for $60 less per month even after their "Special" price they quoted me. Needless to say I am moving out. read more

My biggest problem with this facility is their hours. The close at 6 and earlier on the weekends. In addition they are closed (NO ACCESS) on holidays INCLUDING President's Day. They even shut down on a Saturday for a company BBQ in the summer. So any 3 day weekend you think you might move, you won't be able to here! I've only had a couple days to experience CSS, but I will say the office people are awesome! Very friendly, explain everything in detail, cover all the bases. I cannot argue with the discounted prices which were the best I found anywhere. The buildings/units are very clean and well lit in the aisles. I'm a little concerned with how dark it is inside the unit but I'll deal with that. read more

I was very pleased with Carlsbad Self-Storage. My storage space was clean, the employees were very helpful and very kind, and the monthly rental cost was reasonable. Their hours of operation didn't affect me; when they were shut down for the holidays, I was out of town anyways. I can see how some people could get frustrated with them being closed on national holidays, but it didn't interfere with my moving, etc. I really appreciated the level of security at the Carlsbad Self-Storage. I was happy to know that the employees made sure that everyone's items were safe and secure. For example, I made a few trips to my storage and accidentally forgot to close the lock correctly (I know...this is pathetic...but we all have absent-minded moments); luckily, I received a phone call THAT DAY letting me know that the security guard found my storage space unlocked. Overall, I would recommend Carlsbad Self Storage to those who are looking for a secure place to store their house-hold items (or what have you) and for those who aren't looking to move on the holidays ;-) read more

I have been using CSS for about 5 years and rent 3 large 10x25 units and RV storage. The first years were great under different management. Then, they started raising the rates by leaps and bounds. In 2014, without proper 30-day notification as specified in the contract, Mgr. Michael Larkin raised my rates on each unit by 15-1/2% to 28% in one year citing increased "facilities expenses like maintenance, utilities and insurance" I told them this was unreasonable, that I would move, and he eventually backed off some. However, when the bill arrived there was no change!!! This year in 2015 my rates took another big jump citing the same reasons (same form letter). This time, I am going to move and avoid future problems. Apparently, the CSS strategy is to get you moved in and then begin huge annual rate hikes knowing it is a lot of trouble to move again. No way to build customer loyalty and goodwill. read more

From my very first phone call to the Storage Facility, until we moved every last drop of our things there, Ron and Patti were/are amazing, kind, thoughtful, understanding, gracious, generous...WOW!!! We had some special circumstances and Ron and Patti did not blink and eye to HELP us IMMENSELY!!! The went SO far above and beyond what any other storage facility would ever do. Having looked into SEVERAL storage facilities in the Carlsbad/San Marcos/Vista/Oceanside area, I had lots to compare regarding their differences when I walked into Carlsbad Self Storage one Saturday. My first impression was that of viewing extra clean buildings, the many necessary security cameras plus many lovely holiday decorations. Ron and Patti whom I quickly discovered managed the expansive facility were just delightful. They both greeted me with wide friendly smiles, bottle of cold water and a sincere handshake which were unexpected bonuses. This "going the extra mile" in the welcoming department was something I had not received at the other locations. When my initial questions answered, I was then provided with a comfy ride (in a golf cart) to view the available spaces to check out the possible sizes and locations. It didn't take we long to sign on the dotted line. I remember feeling as I walked out the door that I'd found the perfect place for my "stuff". I felt as if I'd already established a level of trust that Ron and Patty would care for my belongings as if they were their own ...they actually "had me at hello". Still to this day I enjoy their friendly greetings and make it a point to stop in for a chat while snacking on a few sugary treats they provide on the counter to catch up on tid-bits of news. read more
