Service center is the worse. I went the first time for a check engine and a noise on my driver side. Took 3 hrs saw my car parked outside and told the lady on front desk. No one told her it was ready. Okay fine, she gives me the update just to tell me they didn't have the part and had to be order. Okay, I asked about the noise on the driver side she said they didn't check that part but ones I go back it would be on the notes and they can check it. Go in a second time took almost a month. They changed the part and checked the driver side didn't have the part again and gave another appointment almost a month later. I get there late because there was an accident I was told I needed to wait. I asked the ETA she didn't know. Calls me says I will wait 3 hrs it was fine until I waited 6 hrs for my car. They offer to pump my gas and wash my car but even for the car wash it was taking for ever so I decided to leave. Now my cars radio doesn't work and USB charger either DONT BUY FROM HERE!! problem after problem now I have to fix it my self. read more

I had nothing but a wonderful experience with buying and selling at Carmax. My previous car was getting up there in milage and I knew I had to trade her in and upgrade. I had a 2012 Chevy Volt and she served me very well with little issue. However, the warranty on the electrical ev battery was coming up and I didn't want to be saddled with the replacement bill. Also I knew she was losing trade in value, so she couldn't last for me another year. I was advised to go to CarMax for the appraisal. Oh, before I review further, I previously went to a different dealership where my heart was set on a car. I made an appointment days in advance, when I showed up, not only was the car sold the night before, NO ONE CALLED ME TO NOTIFY ME. (COUGH COUGH RYDELL) The sales people there proceed to give me a trade-in value that fluctuated, but they were also selling a similar car with similar miles for 3k more than what I was looking to spend. Needless to say, I left the lot with my original car and I didn't give them a dime. I keep trying to give Rydell a chance, and they disappoint every time. Anyway, I scheduled a trade in appointment and test drive (for a different volt). I got my value, higher than Rydell. I wanted to know how much money I needed to put in. The car I was originally scheduled to test drive wasn't an ideal color. The sales people/staff were all super friendly, not pushy. This was day one. I eventually, by chance, found the perfect car online, but at a different CarMax. I requested it to be transferred so I can look at it. Two days later, it arrived and it was ready. I scheduled an appointment the following day to test drive. Day two: I arrive with my paperwork in hand, practically ready to purchase a car. One small snafu - in order to test drive, one must need collision as part of their insurance, which I didn't have. :( I rescheduled for the following day, in the hopes I would have my policy amended. Day three: after making some phone calls, I wasn't able to fix my policy. No matter, the warranty and extended warranty will cover any issues. After a few hours, I drove off with a newer car. Very easy process. ZERO runaround, or push and pull from the sales people/staff. I said my "thank you and goodbye" to my previous car, with many tears. I highly recommend going to CarMax. They will not give you the run-around. They don't talk down to you and treat you like an human being. read more

I'm considering selling my leased and got a offer from Carvana which grabbed my interest. I went online to get a offer from carmax which forced me to stop at their Canoga park location. The car was inspected by Ethan ( bleached white hair, looks and acts like he is 15). I attempted to ask if the car was done, ignored me as he chatted with his other buddies, then closed the glass door on me. When his bodies tried to tell him I had questions, he didn't direct me to but to them, "i know, they'll get her" didn't even bother to acknowledged me or let me know someonewill be with me shortly. Something!, he then walked to a sales rep's desk and handed my keys. Minutes later, he parades by me with this arrogance and pretended I was not even there. I came to carmax for a second quote but clearly I've changed my mind about doing business with them at all. First impression truly count. read more

My car died, I went carmax to purchase a used one. The whole experience was pretty much awful until the end. My dealer was wonderful, efficient and thorough. I found the car I wanted immediately, but it had to be shipped from Vegas. They told me it would take 14 days, but to my surprise it only took 7. My dealer said they could deliver it to my home. I live far from LAX so that was nice. I put $10k down and submitted the payment online. I then filled out all the necessary information and signed all paperwork electronically. On my way to return my rental, while with my 7 year old, I called to confirm the delivery at 6pm. They said it was no longer coming. Every person I spoke to was not only incredibly mean, but no one cared at all nor attempted to find a solution. They could not tell me why my car was no longer being delivered to my home, so I was left with no car on the way, $10k out of pocket, and my hungry son. We then walked to the nearest carmax (my phone died due to being on hold so many times with people that refused to help me) and when we arrived they looked into the issue. Jose, from the Canoga Park location, was by far the rudest person I have encountered. He simply said "carmax uses a third party for home deliveries, there was a miscommunication and there's nothing I can do". I kept asking what the 'miscommunication' was, as failure to deliver a car by the time stated is not a miscommunication, it is a breach of contract. He said I had two choices, take a Lyft to lax to pick up the car or buy a different one as I needed a car that evening. I tried to explain that I want what was promised, what I signed up for, and what I paid for. He simply shrugged and said "that's not happening". So, as a full time working single mom, I had no choice. It was 6pm at that time, my son was tired and hungry and now we had to take an hour plus Lyft ride to LAX to pick up my car and drive it back to the valley. Upon arrival, no one knew we were coming, ALL the paperwork I previously signed and submitted was void as the third party company they use had ALL my documentation. HUGE privacy concern. Then I met Edna, literally THE ONLY PERSON WHO WAS KIND. She smiled, apologized, took me in and I quickly signed everything. there was also a very kind man, I can't remember his name, maybe Jericho? Him and Edna were LITERALLY the only employees that said "sorry this happened" and the ONLY two people that were at all kind. Edna is an Angel and carmax is so incredibly lucky to have her. She was kind to my son, she actually made me feel like a valued customer and I cannot thank this woman enough. I had been crying all day dealing with this stress on top of how horrid Jose was to me and my child, this interaction with Edna was a dream. I have purchased two cars from carmax and have sold two. I love carmax, but your employees who I had the misfortune of interacting with literally made this whole experience horrible. I know mistakes happen, but when they do, those responsible should help fix it or just be nice about it if they can't. I know carmax doesn't actually care, and this will happen to others. I feel so badly for anyone who has to interact with Jose, but Edna flipped everything. I love my new car, I wish I wasn't in tears picking it up, but I do love my car and Edna!!! I would use carmax again, only because of Edna, but I will never step foot in the Canoga park location and, as an owner of a chain of hair salons in LA, I will make sure none of my clients do as well. I would give negative stars if it was allowed. My car was in a lease so I financed it through a bank prior to going to carmax. Before coming in, I asked carmax if I needed to transfer the title at the dmv-they said no. I confirmed that answer via their chat option on the website-which I took pictures of. When I went today, Myra claimed that the chat isn't accurate and essentially told me I have to go to the dmv first. Given that the dmv takes 2-3 weeks for a title change, I asked if there could sign my appraisal to guarantee that price for when I come back since the mistake was on their part and they refused. Took zero responsibility for their mistake, offered zero option and wasted my entire Friday. They will NEVER get my business after that experience. read more

Carmax was a great place to sell my car. Next day comes to find out that you are not actually given a check it has to be deposited even though they bought and have your car. I essence don't have thw cash either it has to be deposited and wait 10 days before funds are available but they have the car Hassel free. Qhem you call them they tey to justify by saying you agree to sell your car but still can't prove that it says anywhere that it will not be a check but has to be deposited. Huge inconvenience since I was I know have to rent a car until funds are amiable. Managers have very poor training try to make it seem like you agreed to sell so you get qhat you get very bad business. read more

This was my 2nd experience at Carmax and it was an overall good experience. I was offered a price that was above and beyond what I thought my car was worth so that part (the most important part) was FANTASTIC! The issue was the lack of communication during the process. Word of advice make sure that your DMV registration is current BEFORE you plan to sell your car. That would speed up the process and avoid any unwanted delays. I do wish that part of the process was reviewed prior to waiting at the location for two+ hours. Three trips and 4+ hours later my car was sold and I had a check in hand. read more

At first I liked that they had a various selection of cars to look at but when I asked to test drive the car I bought Anka said, " that's not necessary let's get you in to sign some papers" (this was my 3rd time here) I proceeded with looking at paper work and I ended up purchasing the car.. Within the week I bought the car maybe 3 days later the car started giving me problems first the breaks (a car max technician said they had after/black market brakes and that the bmw I bought was refusing to adjust to those parts) so then they order the original parts and proceeded a whole month later after that my car still kept making a sound I knew something was wrong with my car they just couldn't figure it out ... eventually it got fixed by the 3rd month of purchasing I was insisting there's something wrong with my car but then it doesn't stop there maybe 2 months after that my windshields wipers would go off like crazy with out being on auto it was so strange because they would turnoff and I wasn't able to use my blinker because the windshield wipers wouldn't stop.. I would take it in but they didn't find a problem because this happened randomly so they said my car is fine but it still kept on doing it I thought I can go on with that problem till I had a minor car accident because my windshield wipers were preventing me from using my blinker so I took it to a few different mechanic shops and turns out it's a electrical system Malfunction!! THAT WAS LOGGED IN THE SYSTEM TO BE REPAIRED IN APRIL 2020!!! I bought my car in December 2020 !!! So again CarMax sold me a fuked up car! HORRIBLE PLACE!! I walked inside the carmax waiting for help to show us some vehicles so a sales rep told us to go out and take a look at whatever we like and to call someone if we want to see something so i did exactly that.. we found a couple cars that my brother liked and I went to go ask for someone's help and this sales person asked me "if I was just going to look at the inside and waste his time" I told him I'm here to buy a car cash and then he just ignored me so I was frustrated of course but forced myself not to make a scene then a different sales rep helped us with a crazy attitude I was asking him questions about some cars and he just completely ignores me or just years short answers!!! Then We were looking at the cars and I saw a Range Rover that just came in that I liked for myself I simply asked him how much was that and if he can get the key for that and the car for my brother and he told me the Range Rover was over $130k so I said ok can I see the inside? He then hesitated and said sure and I asked if we can test drive one he said I have to go ask my manger so he walked away and never showed up so I went inside and saw him chit chatting with other customers and joking all around!! Like what?? I'm here trying to buy a car with CASH and can't even do that! Then I told him I was waiting for you he said I forgot! Then we got inside the car I started it up and everything looked good so I tried to put down the back seats of it as it was a SUV and I wasn't sure how so I asked him and he just pretended like he didn't hear me and he was literally just standing outside in the back of the car just watching me struggle then he finally came over to me and said that not how you do it your going to break it! Will in the service department- THANK YOU - you're efficient, polite and get s#%t done. I appreciate you going above and beyond and accommodating and making my experience hassle-free ... literally from the trade in to purchase to service ive had a great experience and have recommended this location to anyone in market for car ... dropped my car off for repair they ubered me home . Extremely disappointing. I drove an hour from Alhambra to test drive a car, everything was great and I decided to move forward with the purchase. After 4 hours of sitting in this facility I was told I was set for home delivery the next day. This is where everything started to go south. When I got home I realized I hadn't received a confirmation email for the delivery. I called and waited an hour for the confirmation, which was for the wrong time, so I changed my work schedule to ensure I would be home to receive the car. The next morning CarMax calls me to confirm 5:30pm, I told them the associate told me 1pm and they said no, 5:30?? After a bit of back and forth they agreed to 3:30pm. Then 30 minutes later they called me and said I needed to come into the store to do the pick up????? I said no I live too far then they said, "our computers are down so we can no longer to the delivery". I called back and told them to cancel my order completely, the associate told me she would call the store to see if they could rectify the mess up and keep my sale. I never heard back and that was the biggest waste of my time and energy in the world. 0/10 would not recommend read more

I took my car in for an estimate to have Carmax pay off my lease and give me the proceeds. The appointment process and inspection went fairly smoothly, we got our offer and took it home to review. When it was time to actually complete the sale, first I called and was on hold for more than 20 mins. Once I got a person, I asked specifically if I can do this lease transaction on a Sunday and they said sure no problem. I make an appointment for a Sunday and go in (mind you this is 12 miles from my house) only to be told Mazda leases they can't pay off on Sundays. Awesome. I make a bit of a fuss and ask them to complete the dealer pay off before I come back yet again and they agree to do that. Next day they call to say they have the pay off amount and could I come in later? Yes I arranged my day to go back again but I said I hope this means the wait isn't too long. They said oh no it shouldn't be too bad because we already have inspection and pay off. Great. I come in to begin the process at 4:40pm. They tell me it's 90 min wait. Ok, for a few thousand dollars I was willing to wait. I waited a bit over an hour then checked in again - I'm 7th in line with one person doing all the car processing. After two hours I check again and am told it'll be "soon." At 2.5 hours I'm finally told 15/20 minutes. Mind you I kept going to the desk to ask, no one called or kept me up to date until I finally kept going to the front desk so much. Then after 3 hours 10 minutes I had my check at 8pm. There has to be a more efficient way to do this. Besides the inconvenience of having to go somewhere and the ridiculous amount of time it took. They said it's an average 2-3 hours for this process which is insane because it's not like I left with a car. Carmax, you need to work on customer service and streamlining processes. read more

I just had the best experience picking up my car. We picked one that was shipped from Las Vegas. It was transferred and ready 5 days early. And as busy as they are, they had it ready before I had to leave town. I worked with Many, then Cyrus. Cyrus was phenomenal! Very patient with all my dumb questions about the electronics I was unfamiliar with (it's been 20 years since I've gotten a new car). From the test drive, to the paper work, the special attention to detail. The ride after returning my rental, and the bow on the car. Anyway, it was an amazing experience. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Appointments made for either selling or buying cars from this place have no meaning. We made an appointment, and had their online estimate from their website for the car we were selling. Inspite of this, it took them 90 minutes to have the car appraised from the time we checked in, another 90 minutes for their documentation queue. And we are still waiting. They just estimated another 60-90 minutes to get through the end of the process. Meanwhile you can see plenty of employees whiling away time, chatting in their cell phones. One of the most inefficient businesses I have dealt with. Makes it even more frustrating since they do not provide any upfront plans or estimates. Near my lease end I had my car appraised at Carmax in Canoga Park by Jorge @ $10,500. After they paid off my residual and sales tax I would net $200. I said they do not pay sales tax as a reseller. Jorge said they pay even more tax than I would??? Then I went to Carmax in Burbank. My car was appraised $12,000 and because they didn't have to pay sales tax after all I received a check for $2,725.45. I was so happy with Carmax Burbank that I bought my next car from them. We took advantage of their 'if you are not happy' return policy. They really put us through the ringer but finally wrote a check for the $26,000 we paid. THE CHECK BOUNCED! They were cold and hard and it took 9 days to get a new check.  Still has not cleared our bank. Next time I listen to my friends and go to Carvana. read more

Incompetent Lying Timewasters. I attempted to sell my deceased father's car to CarMax as the executor of his estate (eg. proceeds to go to estate, the estate in probate but letters from court already had me appointed as executor for the estate. It is legal and normal for cars to be sold while in this legal state). I made clear that this was my circumstance at every interaction with CarMax including via a chat online before arriving. It was a busy day at the Burbank location so I ended up waiting a total of 7 hours before it was time to complete the paperwork only to find out then that CarMax will not buy a car that is in situation without having me personally take title to the car (which was unacceptable since the estate is in probate). CarMax's policy is nonsensical and, more importantly, they consistently LIED TO ME and WASTED ALL OF OUR TIME by pretending that this was a transaction that they could do when, when it came down to completing paperwork, they actually could not. read more

I sold my car there. Time comes to process paperwork. They take all of our documents. We are told to sit and wait. How long will this take I ask? Told 30 minutes. They make no mention of my husband's license. We sit in their waiting area, 10 feet from their reception desk. 10 feet from the woman who took our paperwork. It's me, my husband, my toddler. I'm actively trying to keep my toddler from acting out at a place of business because I can't stand kids acting out in public or a place of business. They call me on my phone at 7:40pm to tell me they need my license. Again, we are sitting 10 feet away from their desk. I don't get the call because my phone is on silent and I'm assuming they can use their words to walk a few feet to talk to us, you know, in person (vs. on the phone). We wait and wait. 8:40pm my phone rings again and I see it answer. Again they're calling me. THEY ARE SITTING ACROSS THE WAY FROM ME CALLING ME. They assumed we had left. I'm not sure who just hands over two key fobs to a dealer and just says "I'm sure you'll figure this out, we're out" w/o a check in hand. I tell them we are literally sitting and waiting in front of them, and we didn't expect to be called when we are physically present waiting. The staff member didn't apologize and kept repeating they called at 7:40pm. So to that staff member, Leilani (?), you're not a parrot; you don't need to repeat yourself. Work on your communication skills. Time comes for my husband to sign the paperwork with Eric. At this point, my toddler was dead tired and I took her to the car so she can rest. My husband said "he looked like he hated his job." Someone issued the check under the incorrect name, so Eric let his attitude shine about his discontent about the situation. Do I get him being annoyed? Sure, I'm human. Do you let the customer see your annoyance with your colleagues? No, not a good idea. Please don't ever make a customer feel guilty for YOUR error. All in all, there was an obvious lack of communication and professionalism on their end. Strike #1 and #2. I'm glad to be done with them/CarMax. Live and learn...and I won't be back. read more

It was my first time at a Carmax. I got the information I needed but Rachel should not be customer-facing. Not that biggest fan. She's knowledgeable (I guess) yet her sarcasm and condescending tone were not appreciated and very much turned me off to this location. For her to have "President's Club" on her badge it's unfortunate that she didn't embody the qualities associated with it. Will definitely not return based on this experience.
