WOW..... this was my first experience with CARMAX and selling my car to them. I was so impressed. Not sure why the other bad reviews. We recently showed up and had the value of the car appraised and a letter was prepared by them which was valid for 7 days. 3 days later we showed up to sell the car and were there for less than an hour and the car was purchased for what they offered. No gimmicks , no hassles . We dealt with Emaly who was AWESOME and thorough in explaining and going through the minimal documents we needed to sign. The supervisor David constantly checked on us just to make sure we were comfortable and to see if we needed anything. Literally could NOT ask for better service. read more

THEY SALE LEMONS!!! I took a day off work and was at this lot for 4 hours, test drove a 2016 Jeep Cherokee for 20 minutes, went over all the paperwork on the cars health, they did a HARD CREDIT PULL for financing, and I decided to purchase the car. The salesman takes it back to wash and fill up tank. I'm literally 10 minutes away from driving off the lot with this car. The salesman calls me over to his desk to say THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT JUST CAME ON, on the car!!!! Omg are you kidding me!?! THEY SELL LEMONS! No way that's the first time that check engine light came on! How did you just show me all the paperwork on the cars "certified engine health" and before I can pull off the lot, the check engine light comes on?!?! So what I know is that check engine light was on before. They put it on the lot subpar and was hoping someone would drive off the lot before it came back on. If you know anything about cars you know the check engine light comes on intermittently when there is a problem and when the problem goes undiagnosed for so long then it just stays on permanently until the problem is fixed. They definitely reset it in hopes that someone would drive off the lot with no warranty before it came on. Or, bought it knowingly defective and let it sit on the lot and I was just the lucky 1st person to test drive it and trigger the light. I asked the salesman what was wrong with it and he said he was unsure but something about a few cracked parts in the engine!!!! He said do you want a loaner while we fix it because it can take over a month. No sir screw you and your lemon cars and cancel my sale!! Thanks for running a hard credit pull for nothing and wasting 4 hours of the day I took off to buy a car! LISTEN TO THE REAL CUSTOMERS WITH REAL EXPERIENCE AND DO NOT GO TO ANY CARMAX. I purchased a vehicle after 2 1/2 months carmax buyback the car with lemon law They didn't want to believe the car had problem I took my car to dealer they check everything and the diagnose was the proof for the incompetent mechanics at carmax. I pay 2 months and I drove the car for 2 weeks in total, I pay for a car to be at the mechanic and I drove during this 2 months a loaner car, on top one of the loaners car they have me die at the parking lot before I took off. Employees are rude, they don't have skills to treat customers, they never want to believe I was having problems and they always gave me a horrible attitude, when I went to sign final documents every single employee look at me in a bad way. On top when I want to pick up my personal items from the car my Prada sunglasses ($450.00) were gone and my jumper cables. I will never recommend carmax to anyone and I hope they trained their staff properly The carmax location at Canoga park California, definitely needs a well trained Superviser to check employees and make sure they talk customers in a professional way, also the way they dress like they just woke up and clothes doesn't look good, hair are not done properly. Getting the car was super quick and the guy was ok (older white man) but right when we drove off the tire pressure alert came on , thought it was due to the settings so we altered it alert was gone. 2 days later alert came back on added some pressure everything ok. Again a few days later light came on took it to a mechanic and was told one of the tires had a patch and may give us issues in the future so we had to get it fixed . (Was obviously never told one of the tires had a patch) So I kept calling CarMax and would get sent to voicemail. Finally got an answer today and was told they wouldn't fix it because it was maintenance and at the time the car was up to "CarMax standard" fucking dumb asf. They really do sell lemons. read more

First time dealing with Carmax. Got an online offer for my Lexus CT. More than a little stressed reading all the negative reviews. Prepared for a less than smooth 4-5 hour experience. Nothing can be more different. Very friendly receptionist when I walked in. Checked right in with my online offer. Was told about 25 minutes to get appraisal. Waited around and got a text exactly around 25 minutes. Got exactly the offer online. Was told 30-45 minutes wait to finish paperwork. Was handed a check in less than 30 minutes. Everyone I came across was professional, polite and friendly. From the time I walked in to the time I walked out with a check in hand took less than an hour. Amazing efficiency! Best experience selling a used car. And best of all, their offer was 50% more than the Blue Book instant cash offer. What a feeling!!! read more

Unfortunately Didn't have the best experience here the elder worker by the name of Raz didn't have the friendliest personality. He asked for my number twice even wrote it down which was a waste because I never got a call after an Hour waiting outside in my car when they were ready to help me so I decided to walk in to see if they forgot me some millennial with glasses told me they were waiting on me and did a weird giggle I found that a lil rude after I was told they would give me a call which I never did and again Raz ( boomer with glasses and white hair ). asked for my number twice during the appraisal of my car. So If you're a millennial DO NOT get helped by the elders here they will give you crappy customer service! after Raz decided to finally call the manager over after he told me that he didn't need to call the manager over cause he wouldn't be able to help me with my car issues and I insisted that he call his manager over which he did finally. The manager named Fabian who happened to be a millennial like myself was more professional in the way he spoke to me and explained my options to find a solution to my problem. So after two hours I was finally done and never coming back was happy gave them back the expensive piece of crap car that was sold to me by carwack. read more

The worst customer service experience I have ever had. A 2hr experience was turned into a 5.5hr experience. They made promises that they couldn't keep and the "seamless" and "easy" experience that they promised was anything but! I've had 2 different associates & 2 different managers help but they just offer the worst customer service. It's been a week & my issue still has not been resolved. Spoke to who I believe to be the supervisor today & he let me know that it will take another week to fix. If this is how CarMax treats their customers then honestly you all should steer clear. They took time to entertain and address concerns I had during my visit. In spite of a 101 heat, Kay spent attention to details of our vehicle and made sure she captured everything especially the great parts! They are cheerful, very friendly and approachable! And during this pandemic, their offer is phenomenal! Perfect offer in times of need. And as David commented: it's by grace of what we hoped for. Thanks to the source of our grace (GOD alone!) I had gone to the Canoga Park location first a gentleman comes out, takes pictures of your car, inspects it carefully, then it is turned over to an estimator, he personally doesn't come out of the office, someone else comes out and hands you your appraisal. There were three different people involved. They had made the lowest offer from 5 different dealers I went to. I had been told they usually are the lowest, they buy back of wholesale, and sell very high retail!! The highest, as prices are set, no negotiation!! I personally have never bought a car that way, and I have purchased many over the years!! So for me one star, thumbs down, dont waste your time and effort! I did $40,000 of business with Carmax of Canoga. I bought a Toyota truck. Six weeks seven weeks out the battery dies and I'm stuck. I have it towed in to Toyota of North Hollywood which was close by-- trying to expedite The diagnose. They find it's the battery and serviceman tells me you should submit the bill to Carmax I'm sure they will accommodate you. So I decided to reach out to Operations Manager Will Coppock. He tells me to submit the Toyota invoice for $279 and he will take care of it but also mentions that I'm to tow the truck in to Carmax to be evaluated is standard procedure. I told him I understand that but being their facility being so far and Toyota right near me the tow was just under $80. So weeks go by and not a response. 2 months and not a word about a Reimbursement for the service. $ 40,000 of business and you accommodate a customer. That's is bad business and unprofessional. I Downgrade Carmax and see a problem with customer service. I will be using other Car Dealers going foward. Good Job Will.C read more

i preface this with this not the first transaction with carmax . i have worked with them before buying and selling cars with much satisfaction. my last transaction was a purchase that involved bringing the car from another lot and a 3 DAY TEST DRIVE. this part about the test drive is the issue currently. i ordered another vehicle. when it arrived i go to pick it up for the test drive. we go through all the information ..... the salesman and i go out to the car and he says go ahead see you in about 20 minutes. i say that it is supposed to be a 3-day test drive, he says we don't offer that we go back and forth a bit, he checks with his manager and so on...i take my car and leave. i have had so many people from Carmax telling me that i am confused! ok, i get they don't offer that! maybe someone did something they should not have done. i have suggested many times to look in the jacket of that last sale and they would see the copies of my driver's license, insurance card and the document that i signed 3 days before i bought the car! this is so insulting to me that instead of finding out what happened, they just keep insulting me through a lengthy text conversation. Again, my issue is not that i didn't get the test drive, it is that they kept calling me confused! look in the sales jacket or the online file! you will see i am not the confused one! then you can call and apologize and give me a rockin' good deal on that car for treating a repeat customer so poorly! read more

This transaction should be so easy, brought in a clean pristine 2019 car and I'm still here over 1.5 hours. It's like being at the DMV, no motivation to get this done. They don't care. After a terrific experience about 4 years ago with CarMax in Oxnard, we went Canoga. DO NOT GO HERE. EVER. SAVE YOUR TIME, your life's energy and patience. There is a highly invasive check in process - disclose EVERYTHING including your email and you're forced to open an online account. The sales person then allows you on the lot. You pick your cars. Come back to find the sales person has to personally walk the lot and find your car to bring it to you to test drive for 20 minutes max. Can you say time suck??? To drive a second car - same process. You want us to sit on a bench outside while your sales person walks the far lot to find the car? We passed. After 2 hours of this time suck, we left not bothering to wait for second test drive. Sorry CarMax, we were prepared to spend $50 - 70,000 on a car. We will frequent Carvana or a dealer for this. BYE read more

This place is a joke. It's like a child's car dealership. Had the car appraised earlier in the day came back at 6:00 to sell the car to them was told it would be a 45 minute wait which is absolutely ridiculous just to sell a car. Stepped out for a little came back about an hour and a half later they still weren't ready for us and we were told that there was only one person in front of us waited an additional hour. When we were finally called after two and a half hours of waiting we were told the payoff according to their system is higher than the documentation we have from Honda. When I asked what the variance was I was told that Honda has a third party payoff higher than the customer pay off, working in the car industry for the last decade I know this is not true. After looking at the documents for all of 5 seconds I explained to her that the last payment made was not factored into their payoff but it shows on our documents what the actual payoff is supposed to be. I was then rudely told that she couldn't take my word for it she had to call Honda in the morning. I educated her on the situation and explained that the documentation we have is from Honda directly, she didn't seem to care. I understand company policy and I wouldn't have been this mad if it wasn't for waiting two and a half hours to accomplish absolutely nothing. Making people wait in the same line just to sell a car as the people waiting to buy a car is absolutely ridiculous buying a car takes much longer than the two pieces of documentation needed for selling one. I use them for safety and legal reasons... make sure all the paperwork is properly handled. they took care of it once again... everyone i interacted with were very nice- a pleasant experience. they do charge a hefty fee for this... in not getting full value... but for the reasons mentioned worth it to me. Just one negative.... they did not properly explain POA to me which caused me an extra trip. They require special/customized paperwork but they told me the opposite on the phone. read more

Took a lease back for appraisal recommended by a friend as i may get some money instead of returning the lease. Two girls inspect the vehicle another guy comes with 5 grand below my pay off price. I wouldnt rate this business bad if the the guy didnt come back saying my miles were high thats why they cant pay. I told the guy i got 34k on the car i have 36 as a limit hows is that high? He apologized saying oh sorry my bad we just dont have a demand on this car. I left feeling i wasted my time. By the way i have a jeep wrangler. This appears as a typical situation when you take a trade in to any dealership they just wont pay you. Sell your cars outside. And those of you who have lease returns who are over miles like 10k may work for you. Never will return. read more

We got told oh there are only 2 people working and one went to the wrong car.... when we were finally helped We were told that car max doesn't buy Ford leases. And sorry the gentlemen who reviewed our vehicle didn't know... Educate your people. They knew we came in with a Ford. I waited for two days for my car to be sent to the store, no problem uploaded all my documents ,all were approved , put five hundred down on my insurance I was ready to go waited for my express pick up appointment fortwo days when I called to make sure everything was squared away they said yes when I asked if it was express pick up they changed their answer and said it was a regular appointment because they still had to personally verify my document after telling me and assuring me everything was good ,so I expressed my feeling toward that and told them I could be around too many people because I have health issues with my respiratory system then literaly two seconds after hanging up I get a rude phone call from a sales manager telling me they have the right to do business with who they want and have decided to drop the sale and am no longer welcome to buy from any car max .only reason they gave me was one of my dovumints couldnt be verified and hung up. Wasn't given the chance to correct or challenge the decision at all . They express their commitment to customer service and treating people politely where is your people skills in my situation car max. Insuprancing companies don't give full refunds and I don't feel I shoukdve been jerked around like that . read more
