However, the documentation and pickup process felt slow and somewhat unconcerned with customer service. It didn't feel organized or customer-focused. On the positive side, all paperwork was completed accurately, and there were no problems with financing or insurance once everything was finalized. Car Max does it right! The usual car buying experience is grueling. All the back and forth- let me check with my manager,.... It's a disgusting ritual that needs to go away for good. Enter Car Max! No hagling, the price is the price. We were looking to get a good used pickup truck and after searching online for a few months we found one at the McKinney Car Max. We have always had our financing prearranged with our credit union or bank if we needed to take a loan and found it's good to have that information in your back pocket so you can compare your what they have to offer. We were met with a pleasant young man named Griffen and he was such a delight to work with. We took the truck for a test drive and meanwhile they were assessing our car to see what trade in offer could be made. We had already looked up the Kelly Blue Book value so we had a range of what to expect. The test drive was a success and we decided we wanted the truck. The trade in offer for our current vehicle was fair and thousands more than a couple other local dealers had offered to us. We completed all the required paperwork online. The entire process was so smooth without any embarrassing haggling. We have used Car Max in the past to sell them a car without buying and that was a positive experience as well. We highly recommend Car Max and Griffen was an excellent sales guy, no pressure but all about customer service. read more

This is my first time using carmax. I did a quote online and couldn't believe what they offer me. It's one of those things that if it's to good to be true, then it probably is. Well, I made the appointment anyways and if they don't give me the offer they quote me, then I can still change my mind. When I got there, I was greeted by a guy who directed me to the business table. I got there, they told me to check in and so I did. The really nice lady, Janice ( I think that's how you spell her name) helped me out. She took my D.L., quote and car keys and told me to have a seat. About 10mins later, she told me to pull my car around to have it inspected. After, I pulled it around, she told me to have a seat. Waited about 15/20mins, she came to me and told me she will have my quote to sign. It was the exact same quote as what was quoted online. I signed the papers, 5 mins later, I had my check and was out the door. Overall a very great experience and will definitely be back. read more

As someone of the same racial background, I found this comment particularly inappropriate and demeaning. Her behavior made me feel unsafe, disrespected, and deeply uncomfortable. This experience was not only disappointing--it was unacceptable. I am appalled by the lack of professionalism and basic courtesy. I strongly urge the business to address this matter seriously and take appropriate action to ensure no other customer is subjected to such treatment. I filled out a request for an offer on my car - the website was easy to use, there wasn't a lot of information you had to provide (I had the VIN) received the estimate into my email. Went to store for the in personal appraisal and the offer matched the estimate provided - was in and out of there in less than 30 minutes on a Friday afternoon. BTW, the offer was 10K above a dealership offered. I went back on Monday to sell the car, and was out in 45 minutes with the check in hand. Everyone was extremely polite and efficient. If I had one suggestion it would be to number the parking spaces so that if you go back to your car after the appraisal, it would be easier to find as they could just provide you with the number :) read more

They promise to do stuff on a vehicle when you buy it when you get it to your shop like my example oil change place and they didn't change the air filter the cabin filter, the oil anything the brake fluid was low, washer fluid was low The coolant was low And needed to print alignment. I did all the work it was over $800 including the transmission service and they wouldn't even work with me to help pay for it so I ended up giving the vehicle back and I'm out $800 so do not ever use Carmax. As far as buying the car & finance everything went well. Since then - been TWICE for the same transmission issue, only 60 days since purchase. Still no fix - and today they even went as far to tell me that VOLVO says it's normal for the transmission to engage, disengage, roll backwards when stopped, and hard shift so that the car lunges forward so no repair is needed ummm I'm not a dummy folks. Went to the window to ask the status and no one could find our paper work. Apparently it was given to a manager who left for the day. Really?? While the prices may be a bit higher at CarMax than other dealerships, the difference is that CarMax does not try to fuck you over with dealership adds on. There is an information desk in the lobby where we were directed to the portion of the lot with the type of vehicle we were interested in seeing. They said they were unlocked. Out of the dozen or so we looked at only 2 were unlocked. Both smelled like cigarette smoke. The place a windshield sticker on the cars that are not available, so we didn't look at those. There is a barcode on the window that can be used to look up additional information on the cars. Of the 9 cares we found interesting, none of which had reserved stickers on the windshields, looking up the barcode revealed that none of the nine were actually available for sale. We inquired of an employee what was the issue with unavailability and were informed it must be a problem with title transfers or something. He didn't really know and didn't care. If I could give zero stars I would! We bought our car in July of 2023 the car was presented to us with 27k miles. We thought we were getting a great deal. For the car to be 10 years old and only have that many miles on it was amazing to us. We were never showed a carfax but told the carfax was clear other than one minor accident. December of 23 we start having issues. The car reads 38k we have the car looked at and they tell us it's something to do with gas intake. We got that taken care of. January 2nd our car goes into Limp mode. We can't figure out why? We had it looked at and the car was found to have actually 132k miles and it's from Florida, a flood area. I can't help but think someone knew about this!! This car has always acted a little funk when shifting gears but we had never owned a bmw and thought maybe that just how it was. Come to find out the odometer has been tampered with and the car is more than likely a flooded car that came out of Florida. Ofc carmax will do nothing for us and deny anything, our bank is extremely mad at them and so are we. We have been paying on a car that was doomed from the jump. Now we are without a car and I am without a job because of this. I'm so mad that they get to pull this over on people and we have to now hire a lawyer because of this. read more

However after a quick appraisal, we were pleasantly surprised to be offered pretty close to what we would have asked had we sold it ourselves. ****AVOID JAMES AT ALL COSTS**** Drove an hour to this location because they had the car we wanted and we already had an appraisal in hand. We met up with Chris, nicest guy! He was training, Matt. They moved quickly due to the appraisal we had and a pre-approved loan from our Credit Union. Chris let us know he would need help with this loan, so he went to get his boss, james. I believe it was james daanen. james came over and seemed very annoyed with Chris asking why he was saying this was a Net payment. Chris explained that he had done one the day before through a Credit Union, but wasn't sure what the steps were. james said "Yes, but why are you calling this Net? This isn't?" James turned to my husband and asked him. My spouse said "This loan is approved up to $49,000, but we only need $35,000, they said most dealerships are confused by this, but that you just put the amount here and that if you have questions you can call this number." (They literally told us to have them call because this often causes confusion). James looked angrily and snapped, "I'm not confused! Why are you saying this is Net?" My husband repeated the same thing and James said said, "But why are you saying this is Net? This doesn't cover the whole car!" My husband said, "I never said it was Net, did you call the bank?" James grabbed the paper and stormed off saying, "I'll call the bank, but I do these ALL the time!" Long story short, James was wrong. We called the bank and they confirmed it was Net and I have no idea what happened when James talked to him, but when he came back with the paper he just dropped it off and didn't say anything to us., only speaking to Chris to complete the deal. We were then assisted by Eric (super sweet) and Marissa (very nice). Eric explained the Net payment and said they are very common and he does them with credit unions a lot. I asked, "So it was Net? Ok, so it was just James that was confused on that?" EVERY person in there was great, but James walked up to us upset that day and stayed upset and I believe he is supposed to be the Senior Sales Manager. I'll go to a Car Max again and would love to work with Chris in the future, but I'll never deal with James again, that was ridiculous.
