Having already spent 5 hours at a Toyota dealership purchasing a new vehicle, I was anticipating the another miserable hour or two of waiting around but I walked in and they helped me IMMEDIATELY! Not only was she kind and helpful to me, but as I waited I witnessed she was this way with everyone she encountered. I have a newborn at home, 10% battery on my phone, out while my husband was doing the bedtime routine, and Edna got me a Lyft home free of charge. Seller beware!!! Got an online price for car. Took car in. Shopped around for an hour. Came back and was told "we have a deal"... that was easy. (My mistake - I assumed our deal was the online deal) Went to the business office. Signed pink slip, carmax signed my pink slip. I signed odometer reading and another paper. Then...... the price for them to buy my car was $3,500 less than my online offer. They handed me back my signed pink slip with a note attached "no fraud intended". I tried to call Julian, the sales manager, he was at lunch, in a meeting, with a customer...avoided my calls twice. Be sure to look over ALL paperwork before signing your pink slip over to Car Max. I had to order a new title from DMV. Car max wouldn't even reimburse the $25.00. I did receive an apology from the lady in the business department. read more

This is a review about selling them a car. I decided to give them a try after a dealer offered me what I thought was a crazy low trade in value on my suv. I made in appointment on their web site in the morning and drove in that afternoon. The whole thing took about 30 mins and they offered me 55% more than the dealer. We had a horrible experience. Ricky at the front desk told us the car we drove 30 minutes to purchase was not there. He was reluctant to call another location. When I asked him again, he noted in a rude and frustrating tone that he would call but that we had to wait outside the building while he did. It was very cold outside and there were no customers around, so why? I spoke with the manager who noted the car was actually there. He told us to take the elevator to the third floor and wait for someone to meet us there. When we turned back the manager was talking with Ricky and another employee. The people in CARMAX stole my husband's cash ($1900 of it) that he too with him to buy a truck while they were in process of counting . They counted it with hand several times verifying the amount ($33,000) AND WORTE IT ON A PIECE OF PAPER WHICH MY HUSBAND STILl HAS. Then, they took it back to count it again for the last time in their money counter. During that process, one of the staff stole a stack of the money (which was $1900) and claimed that they do not know what happened. My husband called the police and police said that we needed to hire an attorney to get access to the security cameras. He asked police to escort him to his car since there were suspicious people standing outside and he felt insecure to walk to his car with all that cash. I called CARMAX headquarters and complained and after a coupe of days they called me and said that they can't do anything. SHAME of CARMAX for hiring thieves as part of their staff. We are talking to some attorneys to pursue this further and bring a law suit to CARMAX for the amount of money as well as mental suffering and our attorneys fees. SHAME ON CARMAX. I checked the stock online, I knew exactly what car I wanted, I knew it was in stock, I showed up ready to spend $30,000 on a used car. He couldn't have possibly fought for my patronage less. Carmax gave me an offer for 20k via the internet that is valid until today (10-29-22). I provided the VIN and license number. I took the car into today. Physical inspection came back perfect. When we're ready to finalize the deal, Carmax reduced it to 16k, due to a finding on the VIN. The same VIN they used for the first offer. Carmax would not honor our deal at 20k. Shady company. Bought both of my Mercedes-Benz at the Torrance store and I didn't had any issues with them. Beware, nothing they tell you will be the truth and they tried to talk us into something illegal in order for them to sell the car as well as trying to force us into their financing which was over twice the interest that we walked in with (our credit union) by selling us a car with no title that we could not finance elsewhere. We came in from out of state to look at 3 cars in the area, one at this location. They knew we were out of state days before we went to our appointment (we asked if they could transport the car to our state). As well as the first few minutes of the appointment they took a drivers license and were told again we were from out of state and likely interested for them to transport it to our state. So they ask some questions, go away for a while, have you fill out a form, go away for a while, etc. Now we are at hour 2 1/2. They say there is a "problem" with the title - they don't have it with them and do we know someone in CA that we could use their address - they pushed this issue for several hours. They said they just figured that out and tried to blame others for this issue. Yet.... Bottom line turns out they don't have the title for any of their cars (check their carfax type reports, none list carmax as on the title). When we finally pushed the issue they said they were allowed to sell the cars to CA residences with no title. No title means you can not finance the car with your own bank/credit union or sell the car - ever! We said we would not buy a car from them that we could not finance with our credit union. They then started back pedaling saying even if we gave them a CA address, because we had not been there for more than 2 years the interest rate would increasing to more than 3 time what we already had from our credit union. They started arguing why we didn't want the car. 3 hours wasted. But the manager said she was sorry and to make up for it she said to spend the night at a fancy hotel (really pushed this) and email her the receipt for reimbursement. Of course she never responded to any emails or phone calls - she was just doing one more nasty thing to us. I felt sorry for the other people we saw working with someone to get a car and could understand why they all looked so dejected since I am sure they were given sky high interest rates. We bought a much nicer car elsewhere (after test driving that car we could tell the one car max was selling did not have a maintained engine as it drove much poorer). Report all your problems with CarMax to CA DMV, they want to hear about problems where car dealers are doing shady and especially illegal things to customers. read more

There was no problem getting a car at this dealer. We were able to get a car and within 5 days i think you can return it with no questions asked. So i didnt like the ride of the Mazda i got so i decided to get a Subaru instead. I had the car held at Costa Mesa to be transferred at this Torrance location. We were advised that the car will be available to be transferred and it ls getting ready to be transferred. The next day i received a phone call from them that the car has a brake problem and it couldnt be driven from costa mesa to Torrance so we went ahed to the store still in the afternoon and when i got there i saw the Subaru and it was drivable. , At first they told me that the transfer will take place a week after when the time i was there 4 months ago. So the manager couldnt say anything because i told him that the car is in their lot and he didnt believe me. Because he was insisting that the car wouldnt be available until a week after while our 5 days return period is coming to a close. We asked the manager to write a letter that he is guaranteeing that our 5 days return period will not be affected. read more

Our experience at the Torrance location was a pleasant one. We sold our truck and bought a car. Our salesman, Ricky, was friendly and very helpful. He knew his business and did it quickly. Our problem began 2 days later when I couldn't start the car, it was the battery. Hmmm you'd think that would have been taken care of in their 125 point inspection. My husband spent the rest of the day trying to get help on the phone. He was hung up on 3 times. I won't bore you with all those details. We ended up calling AAA and getting a new battery from them. CarMax wanted to tow it to a local non-CarMax mechanic! ‍ We will now take the car to our own mechanic and have him inspect it. We do not trust CarMax and their so called 125 point inspection. I will definitely update this if our mechanic finds more issues. read more

But, I went in anyway and I have nothing but good things to say. First of all, I didn't even have an appointment for an appraisal and I waited less than 5 minutes for some help. Came into the Torrance location and was greeted by the amazing staff at the front desk. Then was introduced to Lupe who was going to help me with my appointment to test drive my (soon to be new car). We went thru all the paperwork which Lupe made it seem effortless and SO easy. We even got my car appraised while taking the car on a test drive. Once we came back, Lupe greeted us again and helped us figure out the best financial plans that fit my personal needs/wants. From there we were introduced to Tierra who gave me alllll the heart palpitations! She had such a great attitude and helped me close out the down payment and everything else. Then last but not least, Diana and Kelly made finishing all the paperwork so fun and so entertaining! Every other car situation or buying I've been in has been miserable, long, and ready to be over with. But, all the ladies made this experience SO INCREDIBLE, painless and the most fun. I'm extremely thankful I decided to take the drive to come to Torrance (coming from OC), because I don't think my experience would have been the same anywhere else. Was sent here on the advise of my car dealer. After they low balled me on my trade, they suggested I go to carmax because they typically offer more to buy the car. We went down there with a 2015 S60 Volvo in near perfect condition. Blue book value was between $16k-$19k. We sat there for an hour, with a "sales person" giving us updates every ten minutes, letting us know someone was looking at the car. We never got to talk to this person, they didn't ask any questions about the car, options, history, etc. However, they came back with erroneous information, i.e. there were two owners (we bought the car new and are the only owners), and they said the odometer was rolled back. (The car had 46k miles). After all of that they came back with a valuation of $13k, which is less than what the dealer offered. We asked to speak to this person to clarify the issues and were told no, you can't talk to them. Wtf? Is this the wizard of Oz, or what? You can't meet the person behind the curtain to correct their wrong info?? Bottom line, if you want to get ripped off, go see Carmax in Torrence. They'll be glad to help you out. read more

I came in a couple weeks ago after shopping online to add another vehicle to my collection. I worked with a Gentleman named Vincente Robios. We had to transfer the car from another location however he kept me updated daily until it arrived. Once the car was delivered, the process was quick, easy and Vicente made sure I knew my financing, warranty and cancellation options. I agree with their motto "This is how car buying should be." Once the car was mine (bow not included) I had it taken to have a once over with my mechanic. A couple minor things arose and Jannie in service had the issue fixed. Some other problems popped up. I took it to Infiniti to have it diagnosed and took that to Carmax since I'm under their 30 day warranty. Of course they seem to think everything is fine. Both the Tech and Jannie are making me feel like an inconvenience and as if I'm crazy. Needless to say I'm in a car that's not running properly yet it's supposedly nothing wrong with it. After going to Corporate their best advice was to trade the car in and add the negative equity to a new car at a higher payment instead of them fixing it. Avoid this place and these people at all cost: Jannie-Service Horrendous Attitude/Rude Ken-Service Covered up issues until warranty ran out Classic- Sales Manager lied about his position and rude What started as a great car buying experience has ended bad.
