The Stromboli is delish... Busy place and parking can be daunting at times, but well worth it.

Came in with a party of 5. 3 of the people in the party ordered one pizza to share. the pizza came out in about 20 minute. it was the wrong pizza first of all. but we kept it and moved past that. this was the first time they apologize to our table. the other 2 people in the party ordered pasta dishes. It took an HOUR for the pasta dishes to come out. AN HOUR after the pizza was served the other dishes came out. this is awful time management . our server was extremely stressed. the management did not help her in anyway. after we finally got our food they gave us our wine for free so thanks i guess? but we waisted 2 hours at this restaurant for subpar pasta. do not order anything other then the pizza honestly because your first of all might not get it but it will also probably suck. ALMOST FORGOT! they forgot to give us our wine, and then they did not bring anyone water or refill a singular drink throughout the 2 hours we spent there. read more

Good pizza, not the best I've had. The Caesar Salad was good, though my wife didn't care for the sundried tomatoes. We all liked the garlic knots. They were a good size and very "doughy". The waitress was fairly nice and the place was clean and in inviting on the inside with a nice patio, but right next door to a gas station which could cause smell and noise issues. Some people were eating out there though. They had a local beer on tap with some other common drafts. Since we're only visiting we'd probably never visit again because there are a lot of good-reviewed pizza places around and we'd want to see what else is out there. Stop in and try this for yourself, solid place although we didn't feel was spectacular. Good job though Carmelo's. read more

The rating is really like a 3.5, but I decided on a 3 for multiple reasons... I stopped by for lunch and was quickly and warmly greeted by my server (never got her name), and was told to sit anywhere I like. She approached my table pretty quickly with a menu and was asked my drink order. Upon her return with my drink I asked her about the Italian style wings, and she said they were delicious...I love a good Parmesan garlic wing, so I ordered them (10 PCs) along with a slice of Sicilian and a slice of Carmelo's stuffed supreme. I was advised they may be out of Sicilian, but she checked and it was available... So first out were my 2 slices...I was really excited for the Sicilian...and it looked promising...but honestly fell really short. The dough tasted strange, almost like it could've been wheat or even a somewhat old. It wasn't given enough time to rise, so it was a little doughy. The cheese was good and I would've liked a little more sauce, but the dough really ruined it for me...I had cut in in half long ways and only ate about half of that piece... I moved onto the stuffed slice and it was delicious! The crust was perfect...light, fluffy...in my opinion it tasted like two totally different doughs were used (comparing it to the Sicilian slice). The ingredients inside were fresh and the perfect amount and combination. The marinara dipping sauce was really good too. It definitely enhanced the stuffed slice even more. The server returned with my order of wings, and you know what? They were AMAZING! These wings are excellent! They're crispy, crunchy, yet juicy and tender inside...and the sauce...wow! It was soooo good! I got a side of bleu cheese dressing and that too was awesome. Creamy, thick, and lots of big bleu cheese chunks. Who would've thought a pizza place would have better wings then a wing place? Ok, so why the 3 stars? First, that awful Sicilian...it was the first thing I tried, and if that ends up being the only item someone tries I can't see them going back... Second, I ordered a 10 pc wing and only got 9. I got shorted a drum...it may not be a big deal for most or even noticeable...(I realized only bc I ate 5 wings...2 flats and 3 drums...I should've still had 2 left bc they give 5 of each and I didn't...only had 1 drum and 4 flats)... Third; my server was very quick and very friendly, but she missed quite a few steps in serving a table (and while this is a pizzeria they still offer table service and it should be treated as such). I was never told her name, she walked by multiple times and never asked me how anything was...if she had I would've mentioned I wasn't a fan of the Sicilian (not that I was looking for anything but to express my opinion and see if perhaps I'd want a slice of something else...) she brought me wings and never brought extra napkins (again, she never stopped by for me to request additional napkins, but I would think that you'd give extra especially with wings) but quickly dropped the bill off shortly after receiving my wings...not even a thank you or asked if I needed anything else. I had to give her a nod in order to pay the bill and request boxes (there was no way I could eat it all!) So, no, the Sicilian wasn't very good, I was missing a wing, and while friendly a not very attentive server, I have to rate it at a 3.5 because that stuffed pizza, the wings, and even the dressing was AMAZING! I will definitely give them a try again, and hopefully I can bump up their rating! read more

When I was interested in trying Carmelo's, I did not look far enough into the reviews to catch that it was attached to a gas station. I was hungry, I scrolled through photos, and quickly typed the restaurant into the gps (we've all been there: simply trusting the 4 stars!) I'll start with the positive: the food. Which is all that should matter, right? My husband had a pepperoni & cheese Stromboli which was huge and he absolutely loved it. I had the veggie hot sandwich and was not disappointed. The pesto was amazing. Also, the woman taking our order was very friendly. The negatives: the set-up threw me off. I was expecting to sit down with waiter service but we must have came in the wrong side or we simply didn't know how to navigate to that side. Really not sure (someone please help! Lol!) We ordered our food at the counter & it was brought to us about 15-20 mins later...which I thought was a bit long for counter service. I would expect that if we had sat down but we didn't. There was an open kitchen behind where we ate (a 4-table seating area by the counter) where a cook was yelling to his employees. Not yelling anything negative, just having an extremely loud conversation about weird conspiracy theories. Other workers later showed up and were fooling around in the kitchen right next to where we were eating. Very bizarre and uncomfortable. I really wish we were aware of the other side where we could have sat down. When we saw a sign that said Carmelo's, we just assumed that that was where we were to go. Disappointed...but I won't take off stars for the food. read more

On my way out I told my server to please not EVER change a thing! This is REAL pizza with amazing quality ingredients. I hail from Chicago and know great pizza. This is without question the best in St. John's County and I have tried them all. The wait staff is super friendly. The restaurant is small but clean and tastefully decorated. Wait time for food was exactly how long it should take to cook a good pizza, maybe 15 minutes. We ordered both the Mediterranean and a half cheese half pepperoni and the dead giveaway as to this is going to be good is that there large is a 20inch!!! Who does that these days? Nobody! Crust was crispy and tasty, sauce was between salty and sweet and the cheese was amazing leaving the perfect amount of grease on top. Love it and will definitely make the trip back from the Jacksonville area. Finally, don't let that it's connected to a gas station deter you. It really is it's own place. read more

Don't order via their online website. It knocked me off and said there was a problem and that my order hadn't gone through. I couldn't get through on the phone to them so I thought they were closed. We then ordered food from a different restaurant and it was delivered and we were eating when someone from DoorDash came to the door to deliver more food. I believed it to be a duplicate order from the second restaurant and sent him away with the food before I realized that he was from Carmelo's. Back In the day my grandmother would always get take out from this joint. (We Italians know good pizza when we have it) I remember it always being so good. Then we just stopped ordering from them. It had been years since I've had it... so once again my hubby and I stopped in for a quick bite. Now please keep in mind the timeline of us stopping in was literally at the end of the quarantine so I am taking that into consideration. The only thing that bothered me was how salty the meatballs and the pizza were. Like sooo salty that I couldn't even finish it and I felt sick. I'm not sure if this was an on going issue or they were just getting back in the swing of things post quarantine... Yummy yummy! We ordered a pizza and it was delicious! Grubhub's first driver apparently decidedly quit so an hour later we were still waiting for our pizza. The girl at Carmelo's knew we wouldn't be happy with our cold pizza (we called 3 times) so she made us a new fresh one! GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! The pizza was good and our waitress provided great service even though the place was crowded. The register employee wasn't wearing her mask correctly. It's hard to see in the photo, but half her mouth and all her nose was exposed. Went for the first time today for lunch with my wife and granddaughter. Was surprised that when my granddaughter requested chocolate milk that they actually had it with no problems. My wife ordered a small order of garlic knots to try them out and really liked them & said the accompanying marinara was tasty as well. My wife & granddaughter had a small cheese pizza that looked like a medium to me that my wife said was crispy and quite tasty & I had a large pepperoni which I also enjoyed very much. Needless to say leftovers came home. When in the mood for pizza again while in that part of St. Augustine we'll definitely return to Carmelo's, food was great as was the friendly service as well. read more

Let me start by saying the food was great. We really enjoyed their pizza and we will be back. Now the reason for the two stars. We received horrible service. I get that you may be understaffed. If that's the case close off certain sections of the restaurant and give the customers the service they need. My wife found someone to ask where we should sit. She said to pick a table and they would be with us. Long story short, I had to get someone to clean the table, had to ask who our server was, someone else ended up taking our order after I asked again. Every time I had a refill I went to the bar to get it (we were sitting outside), and when it was time to pay we had to go inside again to get someone to check us out. I know it was a bad night. Three stars for a St Augustine pizza joint that was just O-K. We eat at a ALOT of pizza joints, all over Florida, and in other states whenever possible. Maybe it's gotten too difficult to blow us away with pizza and salads? From the cheese to the crust to the toppings, it was all just par for the course. I felt the prices were a bit high for what you get, but not necessarily high for the area. We'll probably try a different Italian joint next time we're in the area. read more

Just because you give your restaurant an Italian name does not make it an Italian restaurant. They do NOT know how to make a simple margarita pizza here. Margarita pizza = cheese and tomato. NOT cheese and tomato and onion and garlic and spinach. Bloody awful is what it was. Furthermore, a pizza should have a very thin base and the topping must be spread to the very outer edges of the pizza, not leave a wide thick hard and inedible band of crust around the outer edge. We were craving good Italian pizza while in vacation. Not knowing the area, I did what I do best... Turn to yelp for help. I found this little gem inside a gas station. I was confused at first because good Italian pizza does NOT come out of a gas station. As we walked into the store to the right... there was this entire world, the world of Carmelo's. The restaurant is large enough to hold, I'd say around 10 tables. It's very nice and cozy, it felt so homie and totally not like been inside a gas station. Lol We were greeted by a very nice young girl, placed our pizza order and were told it would be ready in about 10 minutes. We took a seat and waited. It smelled so good, I couldn't wait to taste anything baked there. Pizza order was ready quicker than I anticipated, it was either that or the food aromas kept me very happy and entertained. Pizza was delicious, the slices were huge for a large pizza. We ordered a cheese pizza and a meat deluxe pizza (ham, pepperoni, sausage, and meatball).
