We went in for valentines brunch. The food was ok, even though the service was really good, this restaurant is really pricy. The food they offered us is not worth $35 each, excluding the tax and tips. Went to Carmen's restaurant at the Raddison hotel for brunch with my family. Our food was fine and everyone was happy with their meal. The major issue was the staff. Our server, Antwon, started out very rude from the start. He awkwardly stood by the side of my wife without saying anything until she uncomfortably asked if he was taking our drink order. He responded in a way that suggested he was annoyed and was like obviously, which would have been fine if he said literally anything. He then informed us that we needed to hurry up and order because the chef is about to leave. The next encounter involved asking about the hollandaise sauce, inquiring if it was homemade. Antwon responded with "I'm sure it is," which is fine but it didn't sound as if he was confident in his answer. I asked if he could clarify with the chef, which he responded with, "I just clarified it for you," in a confrontational tone. I then spoke with the manager to inform him of his servers behavior. Lee the manager was kind and courteous but quickly overstayed his welcome. He proceeded to do two impressions and stayed talking throughout the whole time we were eating our food. He proceeded to sit down next to my father to continue talking. He was not getting the hint that we just wanted to eat our food with our family. He was nice enough to comp my meal, but when the bill came the meal was not comped. The manager came back when we informed our second server, and he responded with, "I'm not gonna lie to you I was outside smoking a cigarette and I forgot." At this point we just wanted to leave. Antwon during this time decided to come out and apologize, which I appreciated initially until he restarted the conversation about the hollandaise sauce. I politely said everything is fine to just end the conversation so we can get out of there. I don't know what happened to this place but from the server to the manager they acted completely unprofessional and made us cringe throughout our time there. The food is good, but the experience is tainted by lackluster service and feeling as if we are bothering them for asking them to do their job. This is my first review I ever left due to how uncomfortable everyone at our table felt. Hopefully this review helps them gain some insight on how their costumers are experiencing their service. read more

Even though this place is located in a Radisson hotel on Lackawanna, it's actually quite charming. We've been here on several occasions and have always had a fantastic time! The inside has some Old World charm to it. The high ceilings and marble everywhere really add to the romantic ambiance. For dinner, I had the Karabuto pork chop, which was delicious. My husband had the Grilled NY Steak, which was cooked just right. We paired these with a nice McManis Pinot Noir, which surprisingly went well with both dishes. Combining the great food, with the quaint ambiance made this a great overall experience. I highly recommend this place :) read more

Sunday brunch is one of the best I have ever been to. From omelets made to order to elegant salads to eggs benedict french toast, traditional and some breakfast staples to luncheon entree selections and chef carved meat selections with the fixings in a wide variety sure to please even a fussy palate. also a chocolate fountain as well as several dessert selections. The setting is elegant in the main foyer of the restored 1908 train station. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. We will return again. read more

Sadly the service here has gone rapidly gone downhill in the past two years. Ten minutes to get coffee is a bit much. Our server never greeted us, never smiled, never spoke. He approached our table, stood and waited. Deplorable. read more

My family went to the Sunday Brunch buffet to celebrate my birthday. From the moment we walked in we knew it would be an amazing meal. Our waiter, Theo, greeted us with a smile and he made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The manager, JR, took the time to talk with us, wish me Happy Birthday, and he checked in on us during our meal. He also told us about the upcoming events and Christmas Day meal which we are now going to take advantage of. As for the food, it was phenomenal. Probably one of the best meals I've ever had. Aside from the fact that the seating is in the middle of a hotel the experience of eating this quality of food is worth it. I know most of the staff here personally and they are all wonderful people and excellent servers. You are attended to by multiple waiters and given anything you ask for and sometimes things you do not if you do know the staff. My meal began with the crucial bread a butter but to play on the everyday staple with new innovation Carmen's provided me and my guest with soft bread with a crisp crust, herb garlic butter, and oil infused with garlic and rosemary. Our server Frank knew the days specials by heart as well as the wine choices and was nice enough to recommend a red that I enjoyed immensely although I wish I had ordered a white considering my choice in entree. I decided on the scallops and shrimp over fettuccine. The scallops were the biggest I had ever seen and the most flavorful. The shrimp the pasta the sauce all top notch. The chef came out to greet us but I would not assume this to be a regular occasion. My friend had the flank steak and mashed potatoes which i tried a bit of and would have been just as pleased with. The presentations were excellent as well and the only thing I was disappointed with was not having the strength to finish my meal. A couple suggestions. Go later rather than earlier. An empty dining room is always a little awkward. Expect a distinct scent..not a bad scent just distinct. Do a little research this place has a ton of history, it will be worth while to know about it, adds to the experience and such. Had such an incredible experience at Carmen's. The service was extremely attentive and went above and beyond. The restaurant was crowed it was a Saturday night looked like there were two large parties both had over 15 people and then a few other tables and there were only two servers for all of this. Everyone in the restaurant seemed liked they worked as a team and helped them out which was great. It never seemed like our table was forgotten or anything. The servers found out that it was my birthday and they brought me cake which was extremely thoughtful. The food here was delicious; I definitely recommend the calamari. Nothing is better than a place that is in a nice setting with good food and service. Definitely a great place to dine at in Scranton. read more

Great Christmas Day buffet for a large group. Tables were not too packed and food selection was excellent for meats, seafood, and even pleased the the vegetarians in our party. Our waitress, a brunette (Amy or Ashley), was absolutely amazing. She was friendly and constantly kept our drinks filled. Bussers were also quick to clear away empty plates. We were the only ones in the place until 6:30pm which made me anxious. We got there at 5pm. Our waitress was not knowledgeable about the beer selections and had to keep leaving to find out the answers to the questions we asked which was annoying. We were brought bread with flavored olive oil for dipping. Little did we know that this would end up being the highlight of the meal. Our waitress did not know what the special was and had to go to the kitchen to find out. Annoying. Then she read the special from a piece of paper. Bad. A professional waiter/waitress commits everything to memory. We each ordered half portions of the ceaser salad. The presentation looked like a pre-packaged salad from a sandwich shop. 2 croutons, 2 black olives, a few halved cherry tomatoes (which there are no tomatoes in a Ceaser salad) and one single filet of anchovey all carefully placed and spaced in the bowl. The entrees had less than impressionable plating presentations. I had the beef short rib stuffed ravioli. My extra large plate was presented to me with a huge handful of dry arugala just thrown on the top of my pasta. There was too much sauce covering the ravioli's that I had to push it away to find how many were in the dish. I must say that the filling had great flavor. I think a lighter sauce that did not overpower the flavor of the meat would have been better. Our waitress never asked us if we needed any extra condiments such as fresh ground pepper or cheese for the pasta dishes. My other dining partner had the salmon. She said it was good but didn't finish it so I don't know for sure. We did not get dessert but we did get coffee. Our waitress said they were brewing fresh coffee and that it would be a few minutes. When she brought it to us, my partner asked if the cream she gave us was in fact cream and not milk. (we wanted cream). She said it was cream. Um, it was milk. You can clearly tell what color the coffee becomes when cream is added versus milk. Not going back. read more

Had a funeral luncheon here. We reserved the back room and partook of their lunch buffet. We had excellent attentive service and some ordered alcoholic beverages. The lunch buffet was fabulous for the $$$. Many choices, all dishes were very well prepared and they didn't have a chance to sit and get stale. Dishes were replenished quickly. read more

Came here in 2012 with my family for their Sunday brunch and it was fantastic. They had mimosas, eggs Benedict, waffles, a chef making omelets and they also had a huge spread of meats, pastas and desserts. We really enjoyed everything. We were so stuffed after brunch we had to take a nap. :) The brunch was about $25 a person and we needed to make a reservation. read more

The architecture and Tiffany glass on the building itself are spectacular to look at and it's interesting that this was once a train station. The food at the restaurant was good but nothing real special. The food is typical fine dinning and comes with the price as well. It's a great atmosphere and place to check out at least once but not something I'd go back to more than once a year. read more

I was very disappointed. I had made reservations ( for a party of two, at 3:45 PM, on November 28th) well in advance, which were confirmed at least twice (at their request) in the interim. We arrived a few minutes early to find about thirty people, apparently waiting to be seated. The hosts were relatively pleasant but overall appeared indifferent to those assembled and generally disorganized - never (to my knowledge) actively provided any updates to anyone. At 4:30PM (with three parties of two in front of us waiting to be seated), we were forced to leave, as my partner was unable to continue standing. Note: most of those with whom we spoke (patrons who had been seated earlier, while exiting the facility) indicated that their wait had run from 45 minutes to one hour. Even in consideration of the very busy venue, this (to me) lack of consideration and courtesy does not speak well for what was (based on past visits) a fine dining establishment. read more

By far the absolute worst brunch I have ever been to. I have seen the mixed reviews but wanted to see the building . First off the brunch was not brunch at all. Not an egg in site, bacon, french toast, no cheese just a pathetic attempt at roast loin of pork, cold over cooked pasta I can basically go on and on how HORRIBLE the food was. Bad Service I can deal with at a buffet and bad service it was. Topped off by the Management asking how everything was and I was honest. He took one brunch off the bill which just made me even more upset considering we had a party of 6. I could care less about the $16.95 but everyone at the table obviously was as disappointed as myself. Oh let me not forget the knats that we were waving off food throughout our entire time at the table. Advice to Management, fire the chef and take some pride in what you serve your customers. It's a shame you take a beautiful space and put slop in your lobby. With a space like that you could and should serve amazing food to match the ambience. Raise the price and hire a real chef and make Carmen 2.0 a Scranton destination. read more

We came because of the setting- a beautiful historic train station. We were delighted by our choices. One of us had the special of the evening, scallops over Thai sesame noodle salad and I had the beef short rib ravioli. Both were delicious. Breakfast included with my stay at the hotel. Honestly... the best part of my stay. The staff was charming, attentive, and patient (my companion is a picky eater!). And the food was amazing! Kudos to the waitstaff and kitchen.....they are truly what makes this restaurant work! If I were local, I would seek out this restaurant on its own. read more

Went for Mothers day 2012. Will never go again. Cold food, empty food stations and poorly cooked food. Service was almost non-existent took forever to get a drink, never replaced silver, used plates left on tables. Dirty table and floors evrywhere. Charged full adult price for children's buffet as well, and I had wait another 10 minutes to get that fixed. Asked to speak to a manager afterwards and when the hostess spoke to him he walked away and never spoke to me. I ended up speaking with an assistant after waiting another 15 minutes who was understanding but was in a tough spot herself. I have had better buffets for free at Hampton Inn. read more
