We sat at the bar area and enjoyed a delicious dinner. My husband lover the prIme rin with very ample portions so he enjoyed it the next day too! I had the French dip and it was so good! Nice unpretentious place to go grab dinner On Neville Island. Once or twice a year I end up working in the McKees Rocks area & generally stay at the Fairfield on Neville Is. This job was actually on Neville Island & I ended up working long days so something close was in order. Decent cooked to order food, friendly service & draft beer. All my needs are met & less than a mile from the hotel. First night I had the Steak Burger. Good, but they did overcook it. Everyone has their version of rare/medium/well. When ordering a burger for the first time at a "new to me" restaurant I generally go with medium to get a reference. It was cooked well done rather than medium. Second night I had the Atlantic Cod sandwich. Large. I was hungry, it was after 9 pm, I had worked all day, no lunch & the hotel breakfast wasn't fit to eat. The two stars are for the employees who hustle on a busy Saturday's night while the owner and manager stood watching and listening to the phone ring instead of answering and helping. We decided to come here for dinner after a recommendation from family. I ordered their special of the night, prime rib, as pictured. The prime rib should have never left the kitchen to be served. It was dry, had no flavor and held more fat then meat. The look alone was unappetizing. The vegetables looked and tasted like they microwaved them. The worst part about the experience was the owner and manager standing near our table looked on as I pushed the plate aside and did not once come up and inquire about it. I guess that shows the pride you have. My partner ordered the smoothed chicken which was also served dry. If you think of something being "smothered" as being with a sauce, cheese, toppings, etc. you'd be mistaken and disappointed. This was a strike out for us and we won't be returning but will at least say the staff hustles. read more

I have a limited time for lunch, and limited choices on Neville Island. I ordered take out for lunch, Tues. 8/22 at noon, and when I went to p/u my food, I waited 8.5 minutes for someone to acknowledge me!! I think that I counted 6 different people that totally, and completely ignored me, even after making eye contact with me. I walked out without my food!! I wish that I could give a good review about the food, but I have never tried it, and after that as my first experience; I won't be returning. read more

First time visiting the Pittsburgh area, and I stayed on Neville Island. The hotel desk clerk recommended I check out Carmody's, and I'm so glad he did! This place was fantastic. Great selection of drinks including a very good local cider. We got the pretzels & beer cheese appetizer, which was easily the best pretzels & cheese I've ever had. The dinners and dessert were also delicious. Host and waitress were extremely friendly and the manager even stopped by just to check in and see if we needed anything. Indoor and outdoor seating too! The manager/owner and wait staff were friendly. We waited a bit long for a hostess to arrive when it wasn't busy. Bar staff didn't acknowledge that we were waiting. We did arrive later in the evening but were also out before other tables. Menu was limited compared to similar type of bar/restaurants. The food was good, not great, and a little overpriced for the quality. They had a nice selection of beer and wine. It wasn't a total bust and we may wait a couple of months to visit again once we're out of the pandemic. Masks are still required upon entering and leaving. read more

Have eaten here twice. Good food and service. Had the prime rib and it was cooked perfectly. Ask for the fresh horseradish.

Food was pretty good and service was mostly very good. We were staying nearby and ate here a couple times. A suggestion- Maybe there's no salt on the table because of Covid but since fries and onion rings come unsalted they should just bring a salt shaker. My food got cold while I was waiting for it. I had the salmon salad there today, and it was good, as was the service. However, the menu said the salad included candied almonds, and there were none - on my salad or in the restaurant. Not a temporary outage, either. There were plain almonds, a real disappointment. I don't appreciate a restaurant that says something on their menu that they have no intention of providing. I gotta say, I was hesitant to try Carmodiez (As old Pittsburgher's used to say). The restaurant went down hill in its later years and the location on Neville Island seemed off the beaten path. BUT, for a casual night out the bar and restaurant are great. Guinness on tap of course and lots of great dishes to choose from. They are homemade and the quality comes through. In the summer they open up the sides in the restaurant, but we prefer the tables along the bar. The staff is very friendly. read more

This was bookmarked on my Yelp page and I finally had the time to go. In fact, I went twice within one week. This is a very cool place tucked into an older industrial park. Driving to get there I thought I had the address wrong. But then BOOM! there it was. We were delighted when we walked in. It's actually a very cool place with a great wine list as well as a great beer list. My first time there I had the Cowboy Steak. It is a ribeye that comes with grill marks. My steak was cooked to order. That doesn't always happen when you order steak. The inside was cooked to a perfect medium. The outside was slightly too charred for me but it was still good. It came with asparagus and potatoes. The potatoes were slightly crispy on the outside and seasoned perfectly. I love asparagus but theirs was too soft for my liking. I prefer that it be firm. My husband ordered Beef Tips over Rice. It has a lot of mushrooms but they bring the flavor. The beef tips were some of the best I've ever had. I had their homemade coconut pie for dessert. It is delicious! The crust is flaky. As we say in the south, "It's so good it makes you want to slap your momma." (That's a compliment.) A few days later we were going to dinner with friends. They always want me to pick the place. I chose this little gem. My husband ordered fish tacos. You get two in an order. They come with large chunks of fish. The tacos taste fresh and really it the spot. I ordered the Talapia with the lemon and caper Piccata sauce over rice. There were 3 big pieces of fish. They were cooked and seasoned well. The Piccata sauce was on point. I almost licked the plate. It came with asparagus and it was wimpy as it was earlier in the week. For dessert I had chocolate pie. It was the real deal old school kind. It also had the scrumptious flaky crust. Everyone looks bed their food. We had a great dinner. I was disappointed that they don't take reservations but the woman I talked to said that she would put us on the call list under my name. One set of friends got their before me and we were not on the list. They put us on the list. Thankfully they were seated right before my husband and I got their at the exact time I had requested. read more

This place is a hidden gem! The pickle fries were a great app! My steak salad was a little over priced for the amount of salad that you get but it was good. Update on my prior review and my stars are a a reflection of both visits. We returned for dinner and sat at the bar this time. Had to wait for a few minutes for service but the bartender was super friendly when she got to us. We ordered some drinks and food, including the turtle soup. The turtle soup came first and I tried it - ugh, super salty and earthy. Definitely stronger flavor than other turtle soups I have had. I told the bartender that I wasn't a fan and wanted to get a salad instead. She took the soup and graciously removed it from our bill. The other parts of our dinner were good but not memorable. After food was delivered, we weren't visited again so I never got another drink like I had wanted. I want to give this place one more chance. I hope service is a little tighter and the food is more consistent between visits. I definitely WANT to like this place! read more

Just bar food? Yea maybe but it is a cut above. Mancinis Hogie rolls is a great start. The bride had fish tacos. She enjoyed then along with those onions rings too good to be true. I had a large codfish on that Mancinis. Side of fresh cut fries were great. So what did I miss? Well the zuchinmi fries appetizer. We are addicted to most places nearby version. Off the bat not a knock what so ever for only 4 stars, would give 4.5 if I could. The atmosphere is great (decor, TV's. etc.). Following all "Covid" guidelines, felt safe, establishment seemed very clean from entrance to tables to bathroom. The service was very good. Offered a good variety of food and brew on the menu and everything we ordered was totally up to par, very good!! I am keeping my review simple as in my opinion that's all you can do during this pandemic. I'd highly recommend Carmody's for any type of food adventurer.
