Chris was exceptional--he took the time to explain every menu option, including the drinks, and made excellent recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. We started with the complimentary sourdough bread, which was a great way to begin the meal. We then went straight for the live fire grill selections and ordered the Vacio (Bavette), cooked to a perfect medium. It was incredibly tender, juicy, and full of flavor. We paired it with the chimichurri, rice, and beans, which complemented the steak perfectly. We also tried the Iberico Secreto from the premium cuts, (Spanish acorn-fed pork with exceptional marbling). It was rich, flavorful, and cooked beautifully. Served with chimichurri, rice, and beans, it was another standout dish. For drinks, both the El Picante and the Sweet Heat were fantastic--well-balanced, refreshing, and the perfect accompaniment to our meal. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the music created the perfect vibe, and every member of the staff was attentive, friendly, and professional throughout our visit. Located in the Collection, this restaurant has great ambiance, although the music was very loud, it was hard to keep a conversation going with my friends. When we arrived, we were informed that without a reservation it was a 2 hours wait. There were plenty of tables available, so I went to open table and was able to book a reservation for immediate seating. Very weird and we almost went some other place because of that. (The manager later on explained what happened). Let me tell you we were glad we didn't go some other place. The food and drinks were great. I love the vibe that Carne brings to Oxnard. In the Collection (where the former King and Queen Cantina used to be) is Carne, a modern Latin-fire grill. It has only been open a week! We started with the made-in-house sourdough bread and creamy butter. There was a small square of bread left that we were too full to finish, but it was so delicious that we took it home in a to-go box. Next, we had a tostada-like appetizer topped with plenty of guacamole and a delicious cream. I enjoyed everything at this restaurant, but this appetizer was my favorite out of everything I ate! Unfortunately, we devoured this appetizer, so we took nothing home. Finally, we ordered picanha beef, medium. It came out sliced thin and hot. The meat was well-seasoned, flavorful, and addicting. It would be very hard to order another type of meat in the future, knowing how delicious this meat was. It came with a side of beans and rice, which were quickly devoured: the beans were tasty and packed with flavor, and the rice made a great accompaniment. Everything was eaten, so there was also nothing to take home. We went home with our lone piece of bread. Also, the service was phenomenal. Evie, our server, and two managers frequently checked on us. Food and drinks came out quickly, and I literally cannot think of any complaints. We visited on the restaurant's second day after opening, and we're so glad we did! It's always exciting to support a new business, and this place has so much potential. Being Puerto Rican and from Miami, it's hard to find some good latin food so we immediately stopped here. The food was absolutely delicious. FINALLLY maduros done the right way! Every dish was full of authentic Latin flavors, beautifully presented, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. You can tell a lot of care went into creating the menu, and we were impressed with both the quality and the portions. We especially appreciated how vibrant and well-balanced the flavors were. THE DRINK MENU One thing regarding the food which was a negative was the abundance of green sprigs on top of everything. AND the nacho chips with chicharrónes. Like how are you advertising chicharrónes on the menu which comes with nacho chips and gives me more chips than actual chicharrónes. The restaurant itself is beautiful, clean, and has a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. 3 hours for us. Since it was only their second day, the staff seemed understandably new and a little timid, but they were all incredibly kind, polite, and eager to help. You could tell they genuinely wanted everyone to have a great experience. With a little more confidence and training, I have no doubt they'll become an outstanding team. Like the Cuban guy who reviewed below, took long for water, cocktails and the check. Opening a new restaurant is no small feat, and they're already off to a fantastic start. Carne has a great vibe! The ambiance was really nice, and the music selection set the tone for a fun dinner. We started with the pulpo and the corn nibs. The pulpo was cooked well but was a little underseasoned. I think just a little more of the sauce would have made a big difference. The corn nibs were delicious with a tangy flavor that kept us going back for more. For our entrées, we had the shrimp tacos, the lomo, and the ceviche Amarillo. The shrimp tacos were really good and definitely had a kick, so I wouldn't recommend them if you don't enjoy spicy food. The lomo was tasty, especially with the white rice and beans. I was surprised that the beans had meat in them, but they were still good overall. Unfortunately, the ceviche Amarillo wasn't for me. The yellow sauce was very thick, and the flavor overpowered everything else. Dessert was the highlight of the meal. The guava cheesecake was absolutely delicious and easily my favorite dish of the night. The service was good, and everyone was attentive. My only observation was that there were quite a few management check-ins throughout the meal. I didn't mind it, but it felt like a little more than necessary. Overall, Carne delivers a great atmosphere, good service, and several dishes I'd order again. While not every plate was a hit, I'd definitely come back--and I'd absolutely save room for the guava cheesecake. read more

Saw a local food reviewer post about this new restaurant otherwise I would not have know about it. Made reservations and that was pretty easy. Definitely needed it as it was busy. There are in their first week of opening i believe. Plenty of seats indoor and outdoor. They had a few larger parties. More than 5 people. Great ambiance and look. Service: Seemed a bit slow. We needed to ask for water a couple of times before we got some. Bar drinks took a while to get to us. I also had to ask twice for a soda which I ordered after we recevied our entrees so I ordered that out of sequence. We finished the complimentary loaf of sourdough before we got any water or drinks. I would sugesst a new type of water jug because the small opening of the current ones leaves the server pouring for an awkward amount of time to fill a small glass. We did have a refill one time from someone walking around checking on water refills. Very friendly though. It was busy and I know working out the kinks the first week is needed. Sourdough was definiely really good and came with some soft, creamy delicious butter. Big load cut into four quarters. So good. Appetitezers: Ordered tartare and carpaccio. I have had tartare before and this one compare to the previous one I had was really different in taste. Great portion and servered with thin toasted slices of a bagette. Loved that. The tartare had a floral note that did not agree with me. Didnt work for my taste. We also had the carpaccio. My friend was indifferent about it compared to another one he had in Vegas. I had no comparision since it was my first trying trying it. Also had a floral hint that was not agreeing with me. I didn't fully enjoy it and wouldn't get it again. Great portion though! For apps. Definitely great size and worth the money. Entree: I ordered their Oxtail as it is something I had often in Miami. I didnt like the ratio of oxtail to the stew it was in. Really lost the oxtail flavor in it. It was topped, which for me is a no go as it overpowers any other flavors, with cilantro. I removed those. The other topping that left my friend and I scratching our heads was popcorn. Not just popcorn....stale popcorn. Please remove that from the dish. It has no business on there and does nothing for a already decent dish. We spent a lot of time talking about how that desicion came about in the kitchen. LOSE IT! The porter house was medium rare as ordered. I felt it could have had a more latin seasoning and a better sear given it was medium rare. We had to ask for steak knives as well since we didn't receive any with the steak. We definitely needed it. Sides. We had black beans and rice. I am cuban and very critical of this as it is a staple in any cuban household. It was black beans and rice. *Forest Gump voice* Thats all I have to say about that. We had yukon gold mashed potato. The staple potato for a good mashed taters. Add a litte more salt. We had the mushrooms. Topped with cilantro. Ugh. Once I got pasted that it was good. Dessert: they had baked Alaska and I wanted to try it since I never have but at that point I was too full. Next time. An order of bread and Baked Alaska. Great date night place. We saw a lot of burgers come out. I think they are waygu beef burgers. Might give that a try. We got a lot of food and two bar drinks and our bill was pleasant. I had really tasty dishes that I would TOTALLY come back for! I came for a girls dinner with my sisters and an aunt, so this was the spread; Queso Fundido with the fresh mini tortillas, Tomato & Avocado salad, Chicharron Guacamole, Churrasco Skirt Steak, Shrimp Tacos (3 orders of them!!) All of these were delicious, I definitely had the tomato and avocado salad for freshness, it had great flavor and seasoning. The Churrasco skirt steak was so juicy and flavorful! Not your average skirt steak for sure. The shrimp taco plate comes with 3 tacos each and hand made tortillas, I've never had shrimp tacos with hand made tortillas and it was a bit of a game changer!! The sauce? SUPERB. Shrimp cooked perfectly. And for dessert, of course we got the flan and churros! CLASSIC :) Will be back with my coworkers and girlfriends! Our experience at Carne was absolutely unacceptable. The food was actually very good (compliments to the chef), but the horrendous service, particularly from our server, Rosa V. completely ruined what was supposed to be a family birthday celebration. The problems started with my first drink. I ordered a simple skinny margarita, which has only a few basic ingredients, but the bartender added what tasted like pineapple or orange juice. When I told Rosa it was made incorrectly, instead of offering to fix it, she dismissed my concern and said they only had one bartender and "that's how he makes them." I eventually ordered tequila with lime juice and soda water instead. For approximately two-thirds of our meal, our water glasses and cocktail glasses sat completely empty. Rosa rarely came to our table and made no effort to check whether we needed anything. When we finally ordered another round of drinks, Rosa again brought me the original drink that had already been made incorrectly. When I pointed this out, Rosa argued with me and insisted she had watched the bartender make it. Of this was true she watched him make it wrong. I was the person drinking it, I could clearly taste the orange juice in it. Her response made me feel as though she was accusing me of lying. At that point, I repeatedly told her I no longer wanted the drink. She continued arguing and pressuring me to have it remade. Even after I told her four or five times that I did not want another drink, she had it remade and brought it to the table anyway while I was speaking with the manager, Hector. A customer should not have to argue with a server just to have a simple request respected. The food service was equally disorganized and, more seriously, careless regarding my food allergy. I ordered an appetizer and specifically requested that the cheese be placed on the side because I have an allergy, although the other people in my group could eat it. Rosa said she did not know how to enter the request, and the appetizer arrived incorrectly. Despite already knowing about my allergy, she then brought guacamole we ordered to the table with cheese on it. Mishandling a disclosed food allergy is not merely poor service; it is a serious safety concern. Two people at our table ordered steaks, but only one steak knife was provided. We had to ask for another knife after the food arrived and wait while the meal sat there. The table was not cleared before the main course was served, one of our side dishes was forgotten, and sauces that were supposed to accompany the other side dish was never brought. Rosa did not check on us until we were approximately halfway through our entrées. During that single visit, we had to ask her to bring the missing side, missing sauce, clear the table, refill our water glasses, and take another drink order, which as described above, was made incorrectly. What makes this even worse is that it was a Tuesday night and there appeared to be only four occupied tables in the entire restaurant. Rosa came to our table approximately three or four times during the entire meal. Meanwhile, she appeared to spend considerably more time socializing and flirting with a table of men than taking care of our family and the child who was there to celebrate a birthday. I brought these concerns to the manager, Hector, but by then the experience had already been ruined. The chef deserves credit because the food itself was good, but good food cannot overcome inattentive service, repeated mistakes, an argument with a customer, refusal to respect a clear request, and careless handling of a food allergy. The manager, Hector, was nice and immediately took over our table for the last 20 minutes we were there. He did great! Rosa and the support serves need to learn from Hector. Hopefully Hector can turn this place around. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Carne, especially if Rosa V. is your server. A new restaurant should be working hard to earn repeat customers. Instead, Carne gave us one of the most frustrating and disappointing restaurant experiences we have had. read more

The vibe in the restaurant was a huge step up from King and Queens cantina, much more upscale and beautiful. We got the wagyu carpaccio and guacamole to start. Both were delicious. The carpaccio was especially delicious with the truffle flavor. We then moved to the Denver waygu and the Porterhouse. The wagyu was enough to share for two, along with the corn ribs. The porterhouse was MASSIVE and perfectly cooked. Great flavor. Of the sides we order, the broccolini was the table favorite, but the mushrooms and mashed potatoes were yummy as well. Worst experience I might have ever had. Went on a double date here so there was four of us total. We could immediately tell that the waitress was new (Probably her first day) so we tried to be patient with her at first but the service continued to be so bad that it was intolerable. Manager came around to check on us and he did what he could to make up for mistakes that were made but he was patching holes in a sinking ship. My buddy asked if he could get a passionfruit Pisco sour because we saw that they had a pisco sour on the menu and had other cocktails with passionfruit but our waitress went to ask about it and told us it couldn't be done. My wife tried to order a Shirley Temple (sprite + grenadine) and the waitress told us since it wasn't on the menu it likely wasn't possible and after she went to ask someone, she confirmed that it wasn't available. The manager came by a few minutes later and after I asked him if I could order a Shirley Temple he brought it out without question. The waitress and busboy tried to take our share plates before the appetizers came out. Between the two of them they probably came by 20 times over the course of our dinner asking if they could clear our plates. I ordered the rack of lamb which was about $60. Did not come with any sides and when I saw it was 4 small lamb chops I was pretty disappointed. But I will say that they were tender and the flavor was great. My wife ordered the surf and turf which comes with a filet mignon (if I remember correctly) and lobster. Her steak was supposed to be medium rare and it came out well done. The lobster was almost inedible. Tasted old and fishy. Part of the meat was grey. My buddy ordered the skirt steak medium and it came out very rare. Completely raw inside. He and his girlfriend also ordered the ceviche which was extremely spicy. We all like spicy food and we all tried the ceviche and agreed it wasn't any good. The manager checked on us right after we got our food and we sent both steaks back. He did replace them and they were much better the second time around. He offered to comp our dessert so we ordered 2 orders of churros. The waitress didn't know how many churros came with one order so she suggested we get two orders. There were 5 churros in each order and they were all overcooked. Very small serving of chocolate sauce as well. When it came time to pay we asked to split the check 2 way and the waitress tried telling us she couldn't separate it by item and that it could only be split 50/50. At this point we were all out of patience so I asked her to go ask the manager if she didn't know how to split it by item. Not exaggerating she had to go back to ask someone for help splitting the check 5 different times. We spent over $300 between the 4 of us and there is no way any of us will be going back there. read more

Our experience had some highs and lows. The service was extremely slow--it took over 45 minutes just to receive our drinks, and by the time our food arrived, many of the dishes were cold. We were a party of eight and ordered a large selection of appetizers and entrées, so we understood the kitchen was handling a sizable order, but the wait was still excessive. I do want to recognize the manager, who came to our table, acknowledged the delays with both our drinks and food, and worked to make things right. The food runner was also very patient and accommodating while taking dishes back that had arrived cold. Unfortunately, the aguachiles and ceviche platter tasted as though they had been sitting out for too long before being served, which was disappointing. That said, we understand the restaurant has just opened, and we're willing to give them some time to find their rhythm.
