Best authentic Mexican food I've ever had. The interior is nothing special but the food is super fresh and very decently priced. They even have a salsa bar that includes pickled vegetables and peppers. If you don't know what something is, there are pictures of everything on the menu on the wall to the right of the registers. My husband and I tried the #2 - gordita y taco combinacion (with carnitas) and #15 - tostada de ceviche. Both dishes were plentiful and incredibly flavorful. We couldn't believe how inexpensive it was for our meals. They also sell Mexican candy at the register. If you like peanuts, get the marzipan. They are 3 for $1 and melt in your mouth. Been wanting to try this place for a while, and it did not disappoint! First off, they have pictures for everything, so even if you don't speak Spanish, you can still order. I ordered a Gordita taco plate, and kept wondering how they get the meat to taste so good. The portion sizes were great, but these are legitimate tacos, only about 4 inches in diameter. As a San Diego native who now lives here it's way over priced and doesn't taste good. We got taquitos $5 for 3, in San Diego that would get you 6. It tasted okay and was the best tasting food item we paid for. Husband got a bean cheese and rice burrito, he said he can make better. The sauces- verde is very watery and has too many spices (not Spivey but spices) not even close to a true verde at all. The red sauce was like a ketchup/enchilada sauce. My son loved his quesadilla, glad they didn't screw that up. Now the stars of the show were their hot carrots, these were on point and are free. Also they have decent horchata along with Mexican coke and Mexican mineral water (which tastes great with vodka). Was really hoping we finally found a good Mexican taco shop but it's still a no. Best Mexican food I've had since California. We always get the carne burritos with everything. I dont know how much they are now but it was $4-5 last time we picked them up and they are stuffed well with meat. The green and red sauce is the best awesome, and always fresh and required. I don't know what they put in the sauce but it definitely stands taller than any other sauce I've had. Wife and I dont frequent Edmond as much anymore but when we do, we'll buy 5 or 6 burritos to tide us over a weekend. The everything carne nachos are very good as well. They have the glass bottle Mexican cokes that taste way better for some reason. Nothing on the menu is over 8 bucks (that I saw, anyway). No, they may not wipe down the tables every 3 minutes. Yes, they play the Spanish channel (loudly) on the one TV. And yes, the lady (who I think is an owner) who takes your order may not say a word to you. But let's be honest here. If you're walking into a strip mall Mexican restaurant where the menu is pictures on the wall and there is an advertisement for a car mechanic (probably another family member) taped to the front door, and you're gonna pay less than 5 bucks for 3 authentic tacos... can you really complain? read more

We stopped in for dinner and tacos were good with lots of additional accessories available by cart near tables. I had tongue tacos "lengua" and not near as good as my wife's moms but acceptable. Good kickin spicy chile and tortillas seemed fresh as well. Counter service was counter service and orchata was well made and cold. Lots of different choices for authentic Mexican food, everything I ordered and sampled was reasonably warm, flavorful, and fairly satisfying but nothing reached and and screamed at me the way really good Mexican food does. Entire restaurant was a bit dark, dingy, fairly clean, but it could really use a great cleaning and update lighting and furniture. I am on a job assignment for the next 2 months in Edmond and will be returning to make monthly visits there after and found Carnitas Michoacan by accident while driving past it. I have attempted to try this place several times in the past few weeks but it gets busy at lunch time, so I put it off until yesterday. It was semi busy when I got there at 1 pm, but after trying their food I wondered why there were not lines of people lining out the door waiting to get in to this place. The food was AMAZING!! I ordered the Birria de Res and the flavors were incredible. The dish came with rice & refried beans, a side dish of chopped onion w/cilantro and a tinfoil wrap of hot, fresh homemade corn tortillas, which I used to add the tender stew beef and dip in to the delicous guajillo chile broth of the Birria. The rice & beans were just as good. The prices were inexpensive and the service was fast and friendly. The dining area was large and clean. The menu has a good variety of lots of dishes that I look forward to trying and if they are as good as the Birria, I plan to make this gem my away-from-home go-to place for authentic Mexican food for many more times to come. read more

I got beef and carnitas, hands down some of the best I've ever had. The meat was cooked to perfection with great flavoring, as well as fresh onion and cilantro. If you are looking for no frills authentic Mexican food, look no further. This place has the best meat of any taqueria in the edmond/okc area. The lengua and carnitas are amazing one their own. That being said another factor that makes carnitas michoacan stand out is the salsa. Both the red and the green make other small taco shops look bad. If you can handle getting your own glass of water and taking your plate to the trash, you will love this place. Its worth a try no matter what. Even if you hate it you will only be out a few bucks since everything is crazy cheap. I have been eating here about once a week for the last 3 years and i have never had a bad experience. Don't be discouraged if the place is empty. There is an ebb and flow of work crews that come in for breakfast lunch and dinner so it is either packed, or desolate.
