Damn good food. Not perfect there are some dishes that they take shortcuts on. Spinach for example seems to be from frozen. But overall the menu is very good. I have tried to give it a chance several times since it opened. The food is not memorable. We've had a few different pastas and pizzas which underwhelmed. I'd love to love this place, because we don't have a lot of good choices in our neighborhood, but I just can't. Service has been mixed. We've had one or two servers who were great and then a few others who are in need of some etiquette assistance and training. Also, there seems to be a lot of tolerance for allowing smoking just outside of the front door. We had pink sauce pasta, pesto sauce pasta and eggplant parmigiano. Pesto sauce pasta was plain, but we loved the rest. If you are craving g for garic bread, do not order individualy, it comes with the meal (we didn't like it much though... it wasn't buttery the way we like.) Atomosphear is ok, it feels like an old American dinner, a bit dark inside. But we may go back there since it is so close to us and volume of the portion is quite big for the price you pay. read more

This is our favorite place to eat in the Crescenta Valley!!!! We ordered chicken parmigiana and angel hair pasta with meatballs. The chicken parmigiana was cooked perfectly, the chicken was not breaded, and the flavor was divinely delicious!!! The angel hair pasta with meatballs and meat sauce was "OMG" delicious!!!! I go there to put in an order to go. I tell the girl I want meat tortellinis. She walks back into the kitchen instead of to the register and starts trying to talk to somebody. Turns out she did not know how to use the register even after taking my order. So I'm standing there for 20 minutes and some girl comes out and says do I want to order anything? Let me preface this review by saying that when an establishment messes up my order or I don't like the way something tastes, I don't say anything. I eat the food to avoid conflict and don't review anywhere because I give them the benefit of the doubt. My wife and I went to Caruso's a few weeks ago. We walked in, stood at the entrance... And that's about it. Several waiters looked at us very quickly and walked away. Eventually, a group of three ladies walked in behind us and we squished in. Then a middle-aged woman asked the people behind us how many there were in their party and then were seated. My wife and I felt like we were being profiled since we are an interracial couple so we just walked away and went to Del Taco (race could be unrelated, they could just be very rude.) I didn't even get a chance to not send back bad food that I didn't order. What a shame since we try to support local business. Based on our experience and other reviews, it seems like someone opened a restaurant without consulting a book, website, or even a 30 minute TV show on what NOT to do. It can all be fixed with retraining the staff on customer service. Then maybe I can sit down and try the food. read more

I want to like this place and I want it to succeed. But I was a little disappointed. The salad was good and fresh. But the ice tea was weak and my girlfriend's water tasted strange to her. She said it was "tinny". I ordered veal parmesan and it was overcooked. My gf ordered ravioli. Said it was okay. I like the place and it's great addition to the area. But they need to up their game on the food. I will try a take-out pizza next and see how that goes. But if it isn't better, I'm done and will head down to Montrose or Pasadena. Poor service, poor quality food. We tried to make reservations for our party of 4 for a Saturday night, was told they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. Got there for dinner, was told a 15-20 minute wait. Waited 45 minutes to be seated. Hostess was telling all customers coming in that it was only a 20 minute wait. Food took another 30-40 minutes, and all came out at different times. Appetizers came out last. Calzone & pizza were way undercooked. We ate our meal, but all felt sick for hours after. The pizza made me feel like I had a brick of cheese in my stomach. The bill for 4 people was around $85. A very expensive price for the quality of food. I would have spent less money if I had driven down to Silverlake or Echo Park and gone to a better quality restaurant. The prices do not reflect the quality of food. I am just confused if they have experience owning a restaurant, you should understand how long wait times will be. If you have worked in a restaurant at all, you pick up these basic skills. It's just OK. The food was decent for the price point, but not great. The portions per person were way off. Our meals came with a side, that side turned out to be a full plate of pasta (Don't get me wrong, the side pasta was good, but one meal was almost enough for three people) If I knew going in to order one entree per two people, I think my review would have been slightly more favorable. The waitress / staff were all pleasant and helpful. The manager / or owner perhaps? was my least favorite part of the meal. She didn't seem to happy to be assisting our table. There seemed to be a lot of confusion between the server / kitchen / and manager - at one point our table had 18 side plates for a table of six. Pizza was on par with Giamelas. The other problem for us - this meal averaged out to $30/person with only one appetizer and two glasses of wine and 6 entrees. Service charge was included, ok, and then the recommended tip was based upon the total bill plus the service charge, seemed a little weird for them to recommend that we tip 15% on our 18% tip included into the bill. Maybe go for the pizza, or to share a dish. For the price I would rather go somewhere else. Will give them another try, but probably after 6 months. read more

Wow! This place just opened and let me just say yummmmmmy! They have so much to chose from from pasta to pizza to calzones fish and veal. I went with a meat tortellini with pink sauce. The pasta was cooked aldente and amazingly stuffed, has a Cabernet to accompany my meal and it was perfect. Kim was our server and she's just great! Very attentive and amazing little spot! We just finally got to Caruso's this evening and I have nothing but AMAZING things to say about them. The team work is INCREDIBLE!!! We were sat immediately at 6pm on a Saturday night and had our order taken in a timely manner. Not only was our waitress on top of it but there were 3-4 other waitresses making sure plates were cleared, drinks were refilled and leftovers were boxed. The leadership at this restaurant is incredible and I can't wait to go back with my in laws! Food was fantastic!!! I'm Italian....I enjoy my Italian food. Our precious favorite was Petrillos in San Gabriel...they have been knocked off our list...Caruso's took their spot. I have cheese tortellini with cream sauce. Great flavor!!!! I'll be honest, it wasn't the best dining experience I've had, however Caruso's has only been open a little over a month. The food was delicious, but there were a couple things that caught my attention.... 1) The lighting in the restaurant is TOO dark! I understand wanting to go for the ambiance, but get some lighter bulbs in the light fixtures, please. 2) Our waitress by the name of Caro was really sweet and adorable. Actually I noticed most of the younger staff was attractive. However, we were sat right next to the kitchen door and I could hear a good portion of the staff cussing in the background. I wasn't offended by the language, it was just distasteful and unprofessional. 3) The food was delicious and really filling, as Italian food should be! My only issue was the prices for the food are a bit steep considering the town Caruso's is located in. $10 for a salad and $14 for a meal without a side salad. It's not terrible pricing, I just wasn't expecting the price jump in Tujunga. Ultimately, I suggest you give this place a try, the food is worth it and Sunland-Tujunga needs some good restaurants in town!! I give Caruso's 3 stars.. for now. read more

Much better now. My first review from their opening week was one star. Have been back a few times since then and things have vastly improved. The old manager is gone, and so things move much more smoothly. Service is better, ticket times are faster. Glad they found their footing. Considering there are so few sit down joints in the area, it's nice to have this place around and doing well. DO: Get the Eggplant Parm or the Chicken Marsala. Delicious, huge portions, and they know how to cook mushrooms just right without them turning into mush. DON'T: Get the pizza. A soggy, inedible mess last time we ordered.
