The lady answering the phone would not give her name regarding a missing pizza from my order. I asked her 5 times for her name. She said she made a mistake and send the driver without the pizza. Had dinner there last recently. Not overly impressed with the food. It may have the choices we made. If you don't ask for marinara or think to mention it they automatically give you meat sauce. I didn't particularly like it. The real problem was the sausage. I usually order sausage and pasta. I don't want to sound mean but it was the worst Italian sausage I ever had. They might want to consider a different supplier for their sausages. The waitress was nice and doing her best. It seemed popular. But there just aren't any good places to eat anywhere near there except for Mexican. That might be the reason. My criteria for a restaurant is pretty simple. Do I like it enough to go back again. This is classic Italian comfort food. You won't find this one on Bourdain. Big meals and big dishes. Cozy, clean, not a very big dining area. Pleasant server. The lunch specials are under $10 and include soup or salad, entree and garlic bread. The soup was ok. The dinner salad was great. The lasagne was really good with a very tasty meat sauce. Lunch entrees are half sized and half priced to the dinner menu. This would be the place for big dinners. Totally recommend. read more

The hubby and I met our friends out for dinner here on our Birthday. It was quite comfy and relaxing. We shared a ceasar salad which was delicious. The dressing was obviously homemade and wonderful. The order of chicken wings were just OK. (A little slimy. Next time we will ask to have them crunchier and sauce on the side) I tried my girlfriends Chicken Parmesan. It was excellent. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce was very flavorful and fresh tasting. I'm excited to try the Eggplant Parmesan next time. We had the Teramasiu for dessert. The owner of this establishment is a joke and she needs to work on her customer service. Called and spoke to her regarding food poisoning at the sylmar location which they also own. I could not get a word in. She kept talking and insisting that her staff had already called me to resolve the issue. I assured her I never received that call and yet for about 5 minutes she continued to repeat the same thing without letting me get a word in. Once I got my word in she claimed that I was yelling at her and that she has other customer she needs to get to. P.s. she assured me that SHE would give me a call back but I had to follow up on that claim. Once I was finally able to finish my conversation she responds with " we are not responsible for that location" yet they own it and this is THEIR name. I've never had anything here that I didn't like! From the bread to the salad to the pasta. I suggest the Garlic Cheese Bread with Meatballs as an appetizer. If you're a fan of seafood I suggest the Seafood Pasta, if not the Lasagna with meat sauce is spectacular and extra cheesy, or even a nice steak with a side of pasta! It's okay. The interior of this restaurant is pretty decent for a mom and pop shop. Layout feels more like it was a bar at some point or a diner as there isn't really a reception area. There aren't very many tables which is nice and music is quiet enough that it's easy to have a conversation with dining companions. There's also ample parking beside and behind the restaurant. Our server did a great job. We came at opening so there wasn't a ton of activity in the restaurant, but she was personable and drinks were always filled when getting to that near low point. The food was only okay. I had the chicken parmesan which is always a great American-Italian classic. The portion of chicken is very generous and there's a lot of mozzarella melted on top. However, the flavor of the marinara sauce lacked. It was pretty flavorless and runny. Maybe it was a bad batch? I'd suggest a new recipe. The entree is on a bed of spaghetti that is just the right size. No one else was blown away by the food, but no complaints either. Prices are pretty comparable. No complaints there. There aren't a ton of restaurants in the Sunland-Tujunga area that are traditional sit-down and be served type places so I appreciate we do have this one and hope it does well. I'm not opposed to coming here for some Italian comfort food, but is just okay. read more

Finally the are done and we went to check the place, first we thought there should be one or two customers inside, but in fact it was full packed. The food and their customer service was good. I really, really hate writing a bad review, but man, I had such a terrible experience 3-4 months ago after being a customer for 2 years... I always ordered the lasagna. Well I decided to try the veal and my order of Veal was not up to liking as it was leathery and they also sent me home without my salad... I called and The Manager Haley who was really nice said you can come back tomorrow and I will give you a dish of whatever I wanted with my $25 or $27 I had spent. I was fine with that. So I went back the next day and another manager named Melissa who was drinking booze (I saw her) while on her shift told me "I had to get the veal only". I told her the veal was awful and even brought 90 % of it back as it was inedible. I protested and the tipsy manager said to leave and I would get nothing...I was angry and left. I did not return because I would have made a scene. THEY STOLE MY MONEY...That's how I feel. I took the loss and just had the most terrible experience there. Delicious Italian food. Nough said! Well, actually I'd like to add that the place looks really nice inside and very well decorated with a modern look. The walls are adorned with paintings of various Italian landmarks. The bar is awesome and has a very good selection of spirits, and of course music is playing at the right level to enjoy a drink or two. We ordered an caprese salad, which was perfectly made with fresh mozarella cheese, ripe tomatos and basil. Disappointing experience, I called at 8:50pm to get a pick up order started, was told (with an attitude) the kitchen is closed, I asked what time do you all close? They replied it depends between 8:30-9:00 sometimes, I let them know just fyi, Yelp says you close at 10:00, and they said oh yea, the restaurant is open until 10:00 but the kitchen is closed . . . The meatball parm sandwich was to die for - the bread was fresh, the meatballs were firm yet soft and flavorful on the inside and they melted the cheese and toasted the roll just right. First time at Caruso's. Ordered their lobster ravioli (take out). Upon entering, I found the place to be cozy with lots of wait staff. Waited a little longer than 25 minutes, but it was all good. The lobster ravioli came in marinara sauce. The ravioli was good and plentiful, but the sauce was a bit too heavy in delicate raviolis. If I order again, I'll order it with a light pink sauce or sauce on the side. The marinara was also a bit salty for me. If it weren't for the tasty ravioli, I probably would've rated less. The meal came with a choice of soup or salad. I ordered the minestrone, but I couldn't get to it because the ravioli was very filling. The order also came out with fresh garlic bread. Very good and I couldn't resist dipping it in the marinara. Lots of parking in their private lot. I'd definitely be back to try other dishes. read more

Damn good food. Not perfect there are some dishes that they take shortcuts on. Spinach for example seems to be from frozen. But overall the menu is very good. I really like the food here, but their prices are just too high. What really pissed me off is that I tried to order through Grubhub and the price was SUBSTANTIALLY lower (like Grubhub was saying my order would be around $20 bucks and when I called the restaurant to place the order directly, they were saying my total was around 30??? When I mentioned the discrepancy the lady taking the order said that Grubhub's prices were wrong??? Well why didn't they notify Grubhub? She seemed a little testy/defensive with me which I don't appreciate. I suspect they lowered the prices to make it more palatable for the online customers, but then raised their own prices when ordering directly? Anyway, I still like their food but really don't like this "Dual Pricing". Caruso's is going to lose a lot of local business because of this shady pricing practice. I hope the owner takes notice of this and tries to make a more fair and honest pricing policy. I don't plan to return to them even if they are close and convenient. It's the principle.
