Was looking for a place to take 2 adults and 4 kids for a quick bite. We walked in and asked if we should sit ourselves, the adults got up to order slices for the kids, front counter person said they would take out order at the table if we wanted to. We sat in the booth and gave our order to the waitress who gave us a well noticed attitude and said we weren't suppose to sit in that because we weren't suppose to. Apparently there's an easily missed 5x7 sign that states you cannot order slices after 4pm. If there were 4 2seated booths, 2 4seated booths and all taken where were we suppose to sit? Slices took longer because they forgot 2 regular slices we ordered and now had to wait another 10 mins for a new pie. Small Greek salad with grilled chicken. Crumbled cheese was chewy and they overloaded it with dressing. Pizza was average, grandma slices was old, buffalo slice was ok. Needless to say, will not be stopping by there ever again. As you can see by my non-existent reviews, I don't take the time to review restaurants. They either suck or they don't. Usually, word of mouth in a small town from a small town girl serves it's purpose. I just can't NOT review this place and here's why: 1. I've lived in Riverhead for 29 years.... and I am 29 years old. 2. Caruso's has been around since "I" can remember. * I have been frequenting this establishment since I can recall. Usually with family... dead grandmother, my mother (when she wasn't ill..) 3. The owner goes by Sergio. Since, it's called "Caruso's", I always found that thought provoking. 4. The crust... crispy on the bottom, soft on the inside... perfectly foldable, thin, dusted wonderfully with semolina, and literally melts in your mouth. It can hold whatever your little heart wants as a vessel to the awaiting and drooling cavern of your "facehole". 5. The sauce... Oh dear.. the sauce. Oh, marinara... light of my life... the "other" reason for my existence. Tangy and alluring with a dash of mystery. It leaves you with a feeling of completion that only grandma's cooking used to to do. 6. CHEESE..... Be it "extra" or not, there's something jaw-droppingly and positively orgasmic about cheese. 'Nuff said. 7. The Toppings. Ranging from Buffalo Chix to a veggie lover's wet-dream (eggplant), the topping are as numerous and satisfying as a college-age late night romp with the one you love. Full of character and robust, with a flavor that packs one helluva wallop. Caruso's also offers the bevy of the typical "I"-talian homestyle dishes to offer as well. Here's the caveat: They do it better. Again: 'Nuff said. Don't believe me, get into the jalopy (after all, every car is made of many recycled Progresso Soup cans) and make the trip/trek down to Route 58 in Riverhead, at the "Riverhead Center" to Caruso's Pizza, and use your brain, gustatory system and common sense to elevate your palette. Old school feel, old dude (Caruso?), & the default teenage girl (wo)manning the register. Got a $12.90 pie with a 10-minute ETA (peruse the strip mall in the meantime) which was honored. Returned to a packed house, a full large dining area, and tried picking up my pie. The older fella remembered me, his duller apprentice (read: girl who needs a few bucks and plans to do nothing pizza-related after this summer job) asked me quizzically why I had given her $23, but her newly manifest coworker stepped in: "I'm an engineering major, at least it's good for something." Just like everyone else so far says. Caruso's is the best place for a slice of pizza in Riverhead, and probably the area surrounding Riverhead as well. Positioned in a shopping center that has seen numerous shop changes just about everywhere else, Caruso's has stood for as long as I can remember. It's always been there. It's been the go to place for pizza my entire life. Whether dining in or picking up to go, I've never had a bad experience with Caruso's. The people working behind the counter have always been friendly, considerate, and helpful. And the pies have always been delicious. It's not really the type of place to go to if you're looking for colorful specialty slices (read: BBQ Chicken, Salad, Everything) but for a slice of cheese, single meat, Sicilian or white, it's a must try for sure. This crust, crispy, and perfect for folding. They have a full dinner menu as well, and a nice dining area off from the main booths section. And in all my years of going there, I've never ordered an entree. I've seen dozens come out of the back and been readily consumed, but I can not speak for their taste. Only that they always look and smell delicious. If you find yourself in Riverhead, and are looking for a good thin crust slice of pizza, don't listen to the people who say go to Roadhouse. Mixed review. Why? Their Sicilian pie is the best in Suffolk. However, they don't like making it. Half the time in the evening they only have one or two slices, and will not make a new pie for you if you want three or four. Other pizzerias do. Also, on the weekend they often refuse to make a Sicilian pie. They say they don't have the dough. But you call a few minutes later and another person says they have it. Obviously, some people there just don't want to make it. That's bad business. read more

Taste like English muffin pizza made with ragu; take that as you see it. Amazingly they change tax too, every other place in NY includes tax but they ask for it. Ask for a receipt make sure they show tax, that way the IRS really gets your money and not a phony we charge tax but pocket it. They also don't have a menu to take home for reference to call later if you want to; you never know what they are going to charge without it printed. I guess they figure a sucker is born every day and they don't need to print there menu to bring home. read more

Caruso's Pizzeria is a great strip mall place over by the Best Yet on 58. The Deputy Sheriffs know all about it. An old school environment, with a painted mural of Sicilian fishing boats, hanging stained glass lamps above the counter, and RIV playing over the house sound system. A great place for slices ($2) which are thin crust, crispy and greasy. . . they come off of stacked pans, not really for the showcasing, and are traditional styles, such as topped with pepperoni and tomato and basil. Other options are available to choose from on the soda menu-board, such as linguine with clams. Great spot and cash only. Simple eating, with sit down service in the back. Caruso's has been a staple for over 40 years. It is a family business run by two brothers. Sergio can usually be found behind the counter. His brother runs the kitchen. The decor hasn't changed in years, they play WRIV over the sound system (think Dean Martin and Petula Clark), and the food is classic as well. The pizza has a nice, thin, crisp crust. There's just enough grease to make it decadent. I am a purist and like plain cheese pizza, but the family likes toppings and they certainly don't skimp on them. Appetizers aren't really our thing, but the tortellini en brodo is nice, especially when you have a cold. They do make special soups and they are delicious, but they sell out fast. It is worth asking for, though. The garlic bread is delicious and buttery. We usually just get small salads. They are very simple; iceberg and romaine lettuce, tomato and cucumber. Dinners come with a hot crusty loaf of bread. As for entrees, ask for the lasagna. It is cheesy and meaty and baked so that the edges are a little crisp. This is a Sicilian family, so the sauce is a sweet one. No oregano, no chunks. It is smooth and slightly sweet. The meatballs are the size of a cue ball and nicely seasoned. The manicotti is stuffed nice and plump. The chicken cutlet meal comes with two big cutlets, parmageaned and a side of pene. Their subs are pretty hearty - meatball, sausage, chicken cutlet. Dessert is pretty limited: coffee, tea, canolli. We're usually pretty stuffed and pass. Dinner for three runs between $50-$60 for three salads, three sodas, a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, and three entrees. Caruso's can get packed and they don't take reservations. There are no slices in the dining room after 4 pm. The booth benches are a little low, but comfortable. The staff is stellar. They are friendly, helpful and quick on their feet. The dining room is a little tight, but comfortable. We hope to enjoy Caruso's for another 40 years. read more

I found this place by accident after going to Tanger outlets. The man behind the counter was very accommodating. I ordered a side Greek salad, a slice of Sicilian and a medium diet coke- it came out to $8.00! I thought this was very reasonable! The food was great and the Greek salad portion was very generous- tons of feta and olives. Definitely recommended, nice staff. Just keep in mind that they accept cash only. read more

My daughter and I discovered the worlds best pizza today! We came super hungry from splish splash. They had a delicious cheese pizza all ready hot from the oven. We devoured it! They were also so nice! We plan on returning every time we're in Riverhead! read more

My boyfriend and I went to Caruso's this past weekend. As we approached the counter the girl had the pen and pad ready to take our order. My boyfriend asked for a 'garbage' pie to-go. This girl puts the pen down and in the most serious tone proceeds to say "Well there is a garbage right there I'm sure you'll find a good selection in there." She points at the garbage and looks at us with a smug attitude. I wouldn't have thought anything of it if she laughed it off like it was a bad joke, but she didn't. This is horrible customer service. Another girl behind the counter helped us instead and explained that she was training. That is fine, but not an excuse for horrible customer service. The girl that proceeded to help us did pull her off to the side to explain how that wasn't appropriate which we appreciated. My boyfriend tried to clear it up by saying "supreme, junk whatever you call it" The one with the attitude said "well I've never heard of that." Not an excuse. Ask someone for help next time before you come off rude. Luckily the pizza was good. read more

Riverhead is not known for its pizza and Caruso's is a prime example of why. We have eaten our last pizza from this place. The pizza is aweful and the service worse. Sauce tastes like it's from a jar. We ordered a pizza tonight and sat down to wait. 25 minutes later we asked the kid at the counter we ordered from how much longer. He gave us a dumb look, checked the 6 or so pizzas sitting on top of the oven and handed us our pizza. When we asked how long has it been sitting there he said "I dunno!" Needless to say it wasnt hot anymore and the crust was not cooked enough. If we didn't ask we would still be sitting there. This is not the first bad experience from this place but it is the last! read more

These folks know what they are doing! My husband had excellent seafood chowder- nice chunks of shrimp. Short ribs melted in your mouth. My sea bass with white beans and broccoli rape was perfect. Pasta is good too. Lunch specials are a deal. Service is very attentive. I just ate at A highly rated, pricey place in Greenport, and they really did not compare in taste and value to Caruso's in Rocky Point! read more
