I really, really, really wanted to like this place. This location is a fairly new by the old road. We noticed recently and thought we need to try it out on a weekday. My husband and I went on a Tuesday morning around 915 am and it was just the 2 of us. The place was fairly empty, there were maybe 4 other couples having breakfast at that time. Place was really quiet. The place has parking that I believe is shared with the hotel next to it, so there was plenty of spaces. I expected the décor to be more Mexican, but the place was very clean. They have a separate dinning room for banquets or larger parties. We were seated right away. The waiter came by and took our drink order but wasn't too engaging. We did mention it was our first time. He was nice but not very talkative. We both ordered café de olla. It was pleasant. My husband thought it was mediocre. We tend to have great Café de Olla with his side of the family and theirs is top notch, bold and flavorful. We both ordered chilaquiles. My husband got the green and I got the red ones topped with carne asada (it wasn't a steak it was diced up taco meat) and I got 2 eggs (shared with my husband one and one). To my surprise, the eggs weren't an auto thing. All toppings were extra. Usually in more authentic restaurants, chilaquiles come automatically with eggs either mixed in them or a fried egg on top. 3.99 for each item on top. They did come with refried beans. It was a pretty plate. Drizzled with sour cream, cotija cheese and a mountain of red onion shavings on top ( I like onion). The taste of the sauces was good. I was disappointed with the chips used in the chilaquiles though. They were not thick chips and became soggy right away. I tend to not like that soggy chip consistency and the chips should hold their crunch with the sauce. So thicker "totopo style chips" should be used for this. All in all, it was ok. At least we got to try the place. 2 chilaquiles, one with steak and one with steak and eggs and 2 coffees was a little less than $60.00. We both decided we tried it and would not come back. Again, I really tried liking this place. I love a good Mexican breakfast and although I know how to cook, sometimes its nice to just go out and have someone else do the cooking. Love it! We were hooked when we first went to the original location in Saugus. Then we were so ecstatic to hear they were opening this location which was so much closer to us! Food is still great. Service isn't quite as attentive at this location but staff is all super friendly and helpful when available. I will say there is something missing with the ambience here vs the Saugus location but we still enjoy coming here. Good food, friendly staff, reasonable prices. I definitely recommend. read more

I was with a group of 10 and Casa Canela was one of the only restaurants in the area that could see all of us right away. The chips and salsa were good, but they are not free... They have a decent beer selection, but others were disappointed that they had no liquor. The group was mixed on the satisfaction of their meals... I had the meatball soup and a chicken taco. After a hike we were pretty hungry and a friend recommended Casa Canela. We came at a good time and got sat right away. I went with the Chilaquiles Trio with the mango habanero , green, and red sauce. The plate was soooo good is meant for two people it was sooo good my favorite one was the mango habanero for sure it was sooo good and the steak was seasoned to perfection. My bf ordered a Al pastor burrito mojado with half red half green sauce which was also very good. The environment is nice and our servicer was awesome and super helpful and nice. I am saddened to say the dining experience at this location was not quite as pleasant as the original location off Bouquet Canyon. The restaurant itself was clean and airy, the staff was friendly and the service was quick, which is why I am giving them three stars. Here are a few minor details that were missed and made our experience less enjoyable. For starters, I asked our server for four waters with lemon, one without ice. What she brought us, was four ice filled waters with only one cup containing lemon. Then, my daughter ordered the chilaquiles with chicken as her protein. She was told it would cost extra, which she was fine with. The server brought her chilaquiles without chicken, just plain tortilla chips in sauce. It was until my daughter had started digging into her food that she even realized it and because we were pressed for time, she didn't bother bringing it to the server's attention. And unfortunately, the tortilla chips did not look freshly fried in house, but rather like tortilla chips from a bag. I hope I'm wrong, but that's quite frankly what they looked like. The mishap with the chilaquiles and water could have been avoided if our server had repeated the order back to us, but on the bright side, the bill did not reflect the additional charge for the chicken. I don't know whether they have newly hired staff, but hopefully, with a little more training on attention to detail, things will improve. read more

Our new place for Mexican food, if it continues to stay open for dinner. I only say that because we were the only people dining in the entire restaurant at 6:30pm on a Thursday night. I couldn't help but doubt how the food would taste if no one chose to eat here. It is sort of hidden up the hill, and I have to be honest, I've passed it many times and never noticed it up there. With that being said, the food was exceptional. Prices are on par with the other sit down style Mexican restaurants. I spoke with several friends after I dined there and the majority had one gripe, "I liked it, but you have to pay for chips and salsa". Now admittededly, I know that's something I've come to expect as well when dining at a Mexican food, but they don't just give the chips and red salsa. For $7, it came with chips, red and green salsas, guacamole, and a bean dip with some cotija cheese on top. They gave us some extra as well for no charge. A few months ago I went to Casa Canela, looking for a restaurant to have a family dinner after my civil wedding. I found the perfect spot. I would highly recommend this place for any event they are all friendly and the food was delicious. Unfortunately did not take pictures of the food but here are some photos of the place. They let you to decorate however you want (they can decorate it too) I went in the morning to decorate, Gerardo and other workers were there to assist me with anything I needed. Haven't even left the parking lot and felt like I have to yelp this place. We actually frequent this restaurant from time to time so we thought let's go have our new years breakfast here. That was a mistake. First off we missed the breakfast by 5 minutes so had to have dinner. That was on us. But the service today was horrendous. The waitress totally forgot about us . The chile relleno plate was cold from the moment we received it. My drink was empty the whole meal , we waited and waited. The place was not packed at all , we can see outr waitress just talking to the other waitress. I literally ate my food just to eat honestly regretted it. The plates sat there empty on end of table for a while . Then finally she came to get the plates and asked if we wanted a refill on the drinks. Yall have to do better. Cold food and bad service. We tried this restaurant and by the end of the meal I knew I would never come back. The prices for Mexican food was sky high. My partner ordered the seafood enchiladas. He received two enchiladas and a cup of charro beans. Wow...and the price is $27.99. I was stunned. Then the waiter came back and told us it's three seafood enchiladas and spanish rice. Ok, better. They brought that out. I didn't like that the meals were not brought out together. I had to wait for mine and mine was a salad with a grilled salmon. I asked if they had non alcohol beer and they didn't know for certain. Waiter came back and said, Yes they had one. What I didn't like was how the beer was poured. It was poured incorrectly meaning there was more foam than beer. It was a terrible pour. The salmon salad was good and my partner was pleased with his food. The bill arrives and I am stunned. I ordered a 1/2 salad with grilled salmon. The grilled salmon on the menu stated $8.99. I was charged $14.99 for the grilled salmon. I asked the waiter what happened and he stated that the grilled salmon is now $14.99. Well, that's not what the menu states. He brings the menu over to me and I show him what it states on the menu. It's $8.99. He takes back the receipt and makes the appropriate adjustment. It seems as if they are in some sort of disarray and need training. Our bill with a tip was over $75. That's a great deal of money for two Mexican plates and two beers. I now know this will not be a go to place for me. read more

I wish I could comment on the food and the service, but we received no service, other than a glass of water. We walked out after being ignored for nearly 20 minutes, so a food order was never placed. Had this been a busy time, it may have been forgiven, but at less than 20% capacity, it was not a busy time. The ambiance was as unimpressive as the service. I was excited when I saw that Casa Canela was opening a second location because I really liked the one in Saugus. Came here for breakfast and ordered Cafe de Olla and an American breakfast combo with pancakes. Everything was really good! I'm usually an espresso drinker, but I actually really liked their coffee. We were really looking forward to trying Casa Canela, especially since we've been to the location in Santa Clarita and had a great experience there. Unfortunately, this location didn't measure up -- neither in quality nor in quantity. I ordered the Chilaquiles Verdes. The green sauce was flavorful and had potential, but the overall dish was underwhelming. The portion size was noticeably small, and everything else -- from the chips to the eggs -- tasted bland and flat. It lacked the comfort and richness I expect from a good plate of chilaquiles. My husband tried the Poblano Chilaquiles, and sadly, it just wasn't good. The sauce was overly creamy and lacked balance -- more like a pasta sauce than something that pairs well with chilaquiles. He barely touched it. We also got a bacon breakfast burrito for our son, and thankfully he seemed to enjoy it. That was the one highlight of our meal. Service was fine and the space itself is clean and welcoming, but when you've had better at another location with the same name, it's hard not to compare -- and this just didn't hold up. Casa Canela captured our heart at the original location but it was a long drive from the valley. So glad they opened a new location that is right off the 5! Someone stated it's a "Mexican Dennys" and it's the most accurate review except the food and service is absolutely amazing. The fresh squeezed orange juice is the best our family has ever had. I ordered the poblano crepes and home fries. This isn't your usual cheap potatoes and cheese. They were well seasoned and for once I didn't have to douse them in tobacco sauce and ketchup. The crepe was the size of a burrito and there were two! Each bite filled with chicken and poblano. Again, shocked with the flavors and how rich they were. We have come back two more times. The chilaquiles, Benedict with chorizo, and lattes are all amazing. We look forward to trying so much more on their menu! So far we have not had anything disappoint. read more

Food was great. I've been here quite a few times. This time the service was poor. They sat me and I waited at least 10 minutes before someone came over to offer coffee or drinks. Then I needed a coffee refill and basically had to wave down a server that wasn't even mine to refill. Then waited a while for them to bring check. Then need 5 singles and it took like 4-5 minutes for them to find the change. They weren't really even that busy but seemed to have enough staff. Maybe everyone was having a bad day. Other servers seemed to walk by trying to not look over my way so they didn't have to help. Very odd. I'll come back and chalk it up to a bad day. We had a 70th Birthday Party for my mom today. We loved the party room. Food was excellent and the service was great. Our waitress did an amazing job with our 30 people. The large screen was perfect for showing a slideshow. Gerardo the manager was very easy to work with and did a wonderful job ensuring our party went smooth and that we were happy. I usually love trying new places but my experience was lacking First the service, it took them 20 minutes to take our order and then another 10 minutes to get our check at the end. Getting our food and drinks were fine but it took too long to just order them then pay at the end. The food was fine, I got the burrito with chicken and it was mostly rice and sour cream barely any chicken. Low key disappointing. It looked like there was only one server actually trying to do a job and it felt like he was the only one working even though there were a lot of employees just standing around taking to each other. I was not a fan of their dinner but I was fan of their breakfast (the one in Saugus) so I suggest we go there.. Every Mexican restaurant I have gone to you get chips & salsa free and Tortillas are NOT considered a side with your meal.. Really! I was surprised they didn't charge me for the silverware, since I dropped my fork. My potato's were salty & cold.. breakfast for 2 was over 80.00.. 8.00 for orange juice!! There are a few other places out here that the food is better, I get free chips & salsa and tortillas are included with your meal. read more
