My first time at Casa Costa today with my daughter. Sadly my last! My daughter accidentally ordered a wrong item (a slice of quiche). She immediately realized her error and apologized profusely- asking if she could get something else. Both the server and the OWNER said , "Nope, it's too late- we're already heating it up." My options were limited in finding a good bakery for wedding cakes in Ruidoso, NM for my son's small wedding. I didn't want a grocery store cake because no matter how pretty, it would not have that wedding cake taste or density. I decided it was worth the hassle of hauling cakes 10 hours in the car to get what I wanted. I have only had cookies from Casa Costa, but thought the cakes must be good if the cookies were that good. After receiving instructions from one of the chefs on how to pack them and keep them fresh with ice packs (not bags of ice), I placed them in large, cooler bags (like for grocery shopping) and they made the trip perfectly! I was not disappointed with these cakes! The white cake has the perfect wedding cake flavor and texture and the chocolate cake was super moist! I will be ordering something larger for my daughter's weddings in the future. I ordered (2) 7 inch cakes (1 tier, 3 layers) that feed 10, they were $50.00 each. Brazilian-Portuguese-American fusiony goodness. You walk in and hear samba but see a shelf stocked with Portuguese products and then you walk to the counter and find pastel de nata sitting next to pão de queijo. The Brazilian bowl (white rice, black beans, farofa, a bit of veg, sliced steak) was fresh and tasty and the side of smashed plantains ($4) was everything, despite the 35min wait. Huge array of sweets from rice pudding to choc chip cheesecake to guava-cheese pastries. Nitro brew was fantastic (Casa de Brasil beans) but the eggtarts were sadly nothing to write home about- if you've had the real thing then you'll know what I mean- soggy pastry and tasteless filling. The brigadeiro also didn't seem to have any condensed milk in it which is strange... they really only contain 3 ingredients. Lots of patio benches and small tables for outside seating. If you have any affiliation with Brazil or Portugal at all, you will feel somewhat emotional here looking through the glass of familiar pastries you don't come across in ATX, not counting Edi's chocolates on spicewood springs (go there if it's brigadeiro cake you're after). Pão de queijo was as good as it gets, if you get a brazil bowl these will come with, and the Casa de Brasil coffee was excellent. The pasteis de nata were not what I was hoping for but you can tell from the colour and pastry that they aren't going to taste like the ones in Lisbon. This is the exact place that you have been looking for in Leander and you need to get over there. It is a sweet (pun intended) coffee shop/bakery. We had a Hazelnut chocolate scone, a chocolate chip banana bread and our 3 year old had 2 confetti cookies. Along with the treats, I had a latte and my husband had a regular coffee. We sat outside and the patio was a spacious, comfortable and shaded space. The breeze was cool and there was a pleasant view of Old Town Leander. I think what really made me love the place was our chat with the owner (Katie) and her co-worker (Hannah) and how passionate they are about baking. Also, on Sundays there is a Brazilian Brunch. Not to be missed. This is such a cool family business and they really make you feel like you are part of their family. They shared with us that the reason the bakery is called Casa Costa is because they want you to feel at home. That is exactly how we felt. Check them out. You won't be disappointed. Food was great there! I ordered malasadas and empanadas. They were all made to order so it took about 15 mins or so to get our food. The only reason I have it 4 starts was the employees didn't have face coverings or gloves. There was done items on the counter uncovered where the employee represent repeatedly spoke to customers right over it. She was even told by another patron that she shouldn't be talking over or around uncovered food, lol. read more

The coffee is locally roasted and perfect. The decor is great and the outdoor seating is perfect. It's a tight squeeze inside but its very warm and inviting. Absolutely wonderful and much needed addition to the food scene in Leander! Truly authentic Portuguese baked goods (one of Europe's best kept secrets) with wonderful Brazilian coffee to complement it which made for a great breakfast. It's too bad that they can't have signage on 183 to direct people to Casa Costa (or anyone else in "Downtown Leander" for that matter) as this gem should be enjoyed by all. Given the quality of what is coming out of the kitchen, the prices are fair and we felt like we were definitely getting our moneys worth (especially the malasadas). I absolutely love this place. Every single thing we've tried (and we've tried a lot!) has been delicious, especially the gluten free items. Gluten free baked goods can be hit or miss (mostly miss) at other places, but they have all been SO. DANG. GOOD. here. Whether you have the bacon, potato, and Gouda quiche, a pumpkin caramel scone, a chocolate chip cookie, or any of the other items, you won't be disappointed. Their non-gluten free goodies are all amazing, as well. The maple cinnamon rolls are as big as your face and so fresh and gooey. My husband and kids love them. To add to the experience, the shop is really cute and cozy! Donna and her staff are super friendly. The customer service at Casa Costa can't be beat. I recently had a very minor issue with an item I purchased. When I emailed Donna, she was prompt in her response and offered a refund of the item and a credit for my next visit. It's hard to find businesses who respond to issues so thoroughly and effectively, but Donna and Casa Costa went above and beyond. Well the foods pretty good but don't expect a bargain. Lots of gluten-free choices. What really concerns me is cleanliness. Makes me wonder what the kitchens like. This is such a great place. Hardly know where to begin...but they server a GREAT variety of baked goods, both customary and their regional specialties. They serve different breakfast / lunch hot meals too. I don't think I've ever had anything I didn't like. And most of the things I have raved about. My favorite might be their biscuits and gravy. They have only a limited amount of indoor seating currently, but they have plenty of outdoor seating. The ambiance is great there. Staff hustles and are as prompt as they can be for a small shop. It's great for families too. As they have a great variety of food for any palette. They also usually have veggie and gluten-free options too. We were incredibly impressed with every aspect of Casa Costa. it's incredible the selection that they have available as well as fresh made items we kept seeing people order that made us realize one visit is never enough. I don't even know where to start! It's hard to find authentic Brazilian food and Casa Costa is the best I've had outside of Brazil. The Brazilian bowl (w/fried plantains) was perfection. The rice pudding was great and the pot de creme almost made me weep. The lemon blueberry pound cake is a must! Also the brigadeiros and pastéis de nata were so delicious, even my non-Brazilian friends were in love with them. Leander needed this place! We haven't been here in about a year and I remembered why as we walked in the door. First of all it's a very awkward ordering process. Why can't they have menus closer to the front door instead of at the cash register to give guests the opportunity to look over the menu as they're standing in line. Having to wait until you're at the register makes one feel rushed to make a decision. We used Casa Costa for our wedding cake. She was very accomodating to allow us to come in for a tasting (we live out of state so it required some planning). The tasting was great, she opened the shop just for us, had everything all ready for us to taste (and everything was quite tasty). She spent the time to design our cake and make sure the flavors, colors, and textures were all correct. Our cake was delivered on our wedding day, no problem. All the colors and design came out looking great. We of course got to eat some as tradition goes. Everyone said it was delicious, and there was plenty leftover. We didn't get to taste any of the 'fun' flavors from the actual wedding cake; we assume they were in there somewhere and that everyone just ate all of it! Overall, would recommend! read more

Great pastries, coffees are nice. They need a back up barista however. The 2 times I have gone there I have had to wait at least 20 minutes, (the first time), and 28 minutes the second time. At the 20 minute mark, the same employee that got my pastries asked if I was ready to order, then the BOH what I assume to be supervisor came and asked what I ordered. I told them what I had then got a few minutes later. All this can be fixed with a backup barista for heavy flow of customers. Good product, good coffee, slow service. read more

I made a bonehead decision and ordered the sweet potato chorizo quiche even though I'm a vegetarian. Why did I do this? Because I'm a dumb vegetarian who thought chorizo meant spicy. I realized my dumb mistake about two minutes after ordering and ran back inside to explain! I asked if there was any chance I could trade it out for something else and was told "it's already in the microwave." Again, I said I was "so so sorry" that it was "my mistake" and STILL was told there was zero chance of a refund or exchange in product. She said "you get what you ordered." So if you are someone who EVER makes small mistakes in life, do not go here because you will pay in full. I EVEN TIPPED 20%!!!!
