Came here for dinner on a weekend night and there was no wait. This is a homey familiar Mexican restaurant of childhoods. Plenty of seating for large groups and loud enough you don't have to worry about getting too chatty. Service was friendly and very prompt. We got drinks and chips with to different salsas as soon as we were seated. The chips here are highly addicting and have a fluffy texture so I'm thinking they user flour rather than corn tortillas for the chips. The menu is extensive and seems to lean towards varieties of enchiladas. I got the two item with a chicken enchilada in verde sauce and a beef enchilada in red sauce. The plate is a huge portion and came with creamy refried beans and seasoned rice. The best description I can come up with is that everything is inoffensive. There's something for everyone and the flavors lean on the mild side so I think it would be great for picky eaters. I would recommend the beef enchilada over the chicken as the chicken version was a little too bland. My husband was happy with his Chile collorado wet burrito but would have liked more sauce. OK, admittedly, I am somewhat of a harsh critic, especially since the service at most of my favorite restaurants is completely non-existent after *panda*. That being said, this place was like a breath of fresh air from pre-*panda* times. The service was impeccable. Every staff member we interacted with were helpful, kind courteous and prompt. The food was piping hot, delicious and to die for. I ordered dish I've never had before by mistake, and it was still amazing. Even the table chips and salsa were great. Can't wait to go back. PS, I've passed this place 100 times and had no idea what was inside because you can't see inside the windows that easily. I was pleasantly surprised once I stepped indoors after yelping, of course, a new Mexican place to try! It has everything I like to see in a Mexican restaurant. I think this is a white version of Mexican food. I ordered here since I'm staying at my sisters and saw so many good reviews. I like authentic Mexicana food like moms cooking. This isn't it for those of you who need that. I ordered bean and cheese burrito for my 2 year old son and there were onions in it...it's a kids burrito. My son loves fries so I had the side as fries instead of rice and beans and they were so soggy he wouldn't even eat them he kept feeding them to the dog ????? I mean that says a lot. The chile rellono idk whatever sauce is used is not meant for one and you don't put pico on a chile... the taco was good tho!!!. Chicken was flavored well. Basically if I ate here again I'd order a basic enchilada or tacos and stay away from the canned beans and order a salad. It wasn't that bad just a lot was wrong but I've had worse. read more

We celebrated Esther K's 18th birthday at Casa Lupe. My SIL made reservations for a party of 13. It was super busy when we arrived and usually that's a good sign that the restaurant is good, right? And it was GOOD indeed! We were seated quickly after our entire party arrived. Menus and waters were given to us along with chips and salsa shortly after. The salsa was really good and spicy the way I like it. You can tell it was homemade. My family ordered: - Tamales for the kids The tamales were REALLY good. They were flavorful and moist. The kids and I enjoyed them very much. - Chile Verde I loved it. It was so good! The flavors were right and everything was cooked to perfection. Yummy... thinking about it is making my mouth water :) - Chili Colorado My husband enjoyed it thoroughly and so did I. He kept feeding me. We wanted something spicy to go with our dinner and asked for some jalapenos. They brought some for us and I kid you not... the jalapenos almost made me cry. Definitely was packing a lot of heat. This is probably the most wonderful smelling Mexican restaurant I've been into. I don't really smell anything going into taquerias or Mexican restaurants but the fragrance in this place was lovely. I have to ask what they're using... The restaurant is really dark at night. That's fine because it gives it a mood for romance. However, there was no privacy with all the tables being so tightly packed together so I wasn't sure where that was going with that. The complimentary chips comes with 2 types of salsa. I couldn't taste the difference. They were both spicy. The vegetable quesadilla was a 4 slices of cheese quesadilla that was quickly stuffed with some fajitas. Even with the scoop of sour cream and guac in the middle, the plate looked unappetizing and the slices were not a pretty sight. It looked like they didn't give enough time for the tortilla wrap to melt into the cheese. It didn't taste good either. The plate was also extremely hot. I know the employees warned us but no one thought it would be at a boiling temperature for the entire meal. It burned my boyfriend's hand at the beginning of the meal, mine during the middle, and the waitress' at the end. Safety hazard, anyone? read more

We found Casa Lupe Number 2 because it's next door to one of my favorite pastry shops (Sugar Butter Flour). After seeing the four-star rating on Yelp and the large crowds that wait outside the restaurant for a seat, my family and I decided to finally give this place a try. From the Yelp suggestions, we discovered that this place was well known for their margaritas. And they were pretty awesome. At only $5.95, these are some of the most inexpensive margaritas we've come across in the area. They were well blended and tasted great. My mom and I ordered the peach, whereas my dad went with the original. We all enjoyed them. This is the second Mexican restaurant I've been to that has served two types of salsa with the complimentary chips. There is an extremely spicy one and a much more mild version. Even I couldn't handle the spicy one, which felt like a third degree burn to my tongue. Spicy-food lovers will totally enjoy this. As far as the food goes, Casa Lupe really impressed us. My mom ordered the crab enchiladas, which she let me try -- pretty tasty! My dad chose the chicken enchiladas, which were good, but not something I'd order. I went with the chicken burrito (ordered from the 'side order' section of the menu), which cost around $8 to $9 or so and was very filling. While Casa Lupe is a bit pricier than some Mexican restaurants (particularly in terms of its 'a la carte' menu), it's really not all that much more expensive. If you're looking for cheap Mexican food, a Taqueria is your best bet. What Casa Lupe really has going for it, however, is the service. The service was Grade A! I was able to notice the staff hanging around off to the side with attentive gazes, waiting to address any concerns a table might have. While I'm sure we'll be returning to Casa Lupe in the near future, I noticed this place started to get really crowded around 6:00 pm on a Saturday. Make sure to come early to avoid a wait! read more

We had planned on a different restaurant for dinner.... but the street was blocked off and we couldn't get where we'd planned to go. And that was awesome, as it turned out. We decided on Casa Lupe, very near where we once lived. What an awesome experience! We were greeted immediately and shown to a table. People were friendly.... service top notch. With Mexican food, I have two criteria that really matter most: the salsa, and the beans. And as it turned out, it was not one, but two salsas. One was more fresca, a bit like a pico de gallo (but better!) and the other was a nicely spiced, steam-out-your-ears if you eat it too fast bit of deliciousness. That's right, two salsas with the VERY FRESH chips, both superb. As for the beans, they were perfect; not watery, not too thick, very nice flavor and texture. Waiter was attentive but not hovering... Wednesday evening, the place was packed, and now we know why, Totally exceeded our expectations. This restaurant is clean, busy, and the food is utterly delicious. I'm not a big beef eater, but had a craving, so ordered the Enchiladas California with beef. I was not disappointed. I just wish I had more room. Hubby is an aficionado of chile verde, and he ate the whole thing. Except for the bites I stole from his plate. It was exquisite. And the presentation of the food was very nice. Casa Lupe is DEFINITELY on my "I'd happily eat there again" list. And that means I'm willing to pay bridge tolls and drive across the bay to go back. Really. I've been to this place over a dozen times, and I almost always get the same things. Their nacho appetizer, half chicken, half beef, with no sour cream. All their meals are huge, and these nachos are more than enough. But if you're not into nachos, they have a huge selection of delicious Mexican entrees. The place is family owned, which means the service and quality is always high, and you're supporting actual people instead of an evil corporation (not that I'm against evil corporations). I didn't feel like spending $11 for a 1 item meal with rice and beans. So I ordered a la carte. One cheese enchilada. Perhaps that was a mistake because 30 mins after the dinner I got pretty sick. Got seated quickly and immediately for chips, salsa, and placed our drink orders. The salsa, they had 2! One was chunk and was more of a mild-medium level spicy and the other was a smooth blended sauce that was very spicy but delicious!! We then got our margaritas! Ordering food was quick as well and all was perfect! I had a taco salad and my friend had chicken enchiladas. Portion size was large, esp for the enchiladas. We ordered a second round of margaritas and were pleasantly surprised that they came in margarita glasses instead of the cups we got the first time! :) The one star deduction was for the service at the end. It took a long time for someone to ask us if we wanted boxes or the check. And the wait in between those requests was also long. But I'd come back. read more

I love this place!!!! Everybody working here is super-friendly and makes you feel like part of the family. My family has been going to Casa Lupe in Sunnyvale for years, at least 10-15 plus over 7 years span. I have also introduced it to countless friends who now go there as well. There are a handful of Casa Lupe's in the Bay Area, but the Sunnyvale ones is my favorite. They are family owned and two brothers run the Campbell and Sunnyvale ones. But yeah so there's a reason that we go to there all the time. Their food is great. Now there are diff types of Mexican in my opinion. Casa Lupe is great for serious down home old fashioned style Mexican cooking. It's not 'California Fresh' or anything like that. They don't have a focus on seafood or using healthy ingredients (though they do use olive oil to cook their beans in and not lard, I asked! (Rick), but they do make a great tamale, enchilada, quesadilla, plate of nachos, etc. Rice and beans for me are a sign of whether a place is make it or break it. If a place has bad rice and beans typically I am not interested in returning. CL's rice and beans are old fashioned yummy goodness, the way Grandma makes them lol!. If you ARE looking for something a bit more health conscious, get the chicken tacos with one tortilla only, and ask for pinto beans rather than re fried. Suited it up with ton of salsa on there and some lettuce and you're good to go. Oh yeah and for serious Margarita lovers, CL has a ton of diff flavors to choose from. My fave is the pink happy guava margarita. Sometimes the Sunnyvale place says they don't have it, they typically do. Definitely try it. Mango is a close second for tastiness. Service is always fast and efficient, and the plates are always piping hot (I think they warm them in the oven for a while). Overall, if you are looking for a great family style down-home Mexican food experience, definitely try Casa Lupe @Casa Lupe Sunnyvale. read more

My family and friends have been going to this restaurant for at least 30 years and it has been consistently fantastic! Family run and family-oriented. They treat everyone like family, caring, loyal, friendly and fun. Nice atmosphere, good music, nicely decorated and festive. The food is wonderful. A must-have appetizer is the chicken wings (family recipe) - second to none. The fajitas are delightful. And their drinks / margaritas / full bar are top notch. I was a bit apprehensive to come here as I thought they were part of the Casa Lupe chain in Mountain View. They very well may be but the ambiance and food is much better than that spot in Mountain View. Their menu says their other location is in Cupertino. Anyways... It was crowded due to the commercial celebration called Cinco de Mayo! We waited about 20 mins which wasn't too bad. After being seated, our drink orders were taken and fulfilled. Then we had to wait far longer than expected for our server to take our order. Was it because of Cinco or was he just normally slow? Who knows? The food we ordered (chicken quesadilla, shrimp enchilada, and chicken mole) were okay. My wife really liked my dish because it was sweet. I, on the other hand, thought it was a bit too sweet and prevented me from tasting the other spices. As far as the complimentary chips and salsa go, the chips were ok. I like the ones produced and sold by Safeway better. They give you salsa fresca and a spicy sauce/salsa. Man, was it a bit too spicy for me! The pick up experience was good too, they had several procedures in place to limit exposure. Casa Lupe is just one of those restaurants that can be easily missed. It's located in the Safeway mall plaza by El Camino and Bernado. We decided to eat there after purchasing some yummy goodies at Sugar Butter Flour (they were right next door). Pros: The seating in the restaurant are spacious. We were promptly seated and the service is good. They brought out a salsa that's made in house as well as a very spicy red sauce. My coworker and I ate most of the chips before our food came because it was so good. I ordered a taco salad with chicken while my coworker got some carne asada soft tacos. Very large servings. While I was merely expecting a taco salad, it also comes with a large serving of refried beans, rice, and some kind of coleslaw. The food was properly spiced and I ate more than I thought I could. Similarly, the carne asada tacos were hefty. We spent the next ten minutes in almost near silence because there were so much food. Cons: I've eaten at less expensive mexican places - but in their defense, they had a lot of food! Bottom line: I'd eat there again! Good place for a group of people to have a good time. read more

Not too many Mexican joints server Menudo everyday, it was welcome to see it on the menu here. Got a chile relleno to boot (though this has a different sauce than most I've tried) for a nice hearty lunch. The co-workers seemed to all enjoy their entrees too, so the place is on our lunch list now. Servers are friendly, the space is big and it looks like they have a sizeable selection of alcohol. I LOVE Casa Lupe and hit them up at LEAST once or twice a week. The whole crew is amazing, they're like family, and their food is Excellent! With the shelter in place I've especially enjoyed hitting up Casa Lupe for a Cadillac Margarita (or three) to go. (I hope that never goes away.) Coming from a family who cooks Mexican food at get togethers, I have become very picky and judgmental when it comes to any type of fast food/restaurant Mexican. Casa Lupe is one of the few places I have come to enjoy without any real gripes From the moment you walk in you are greeted by a younger fellow or I believe the owner's wife. Both very friendly individuals. Almost as soon you you are seated chips and two different types of salsa are brought out and soon after that you are greeted by your server all of whom are VERY friendly people. There is plenty to choose from, but being the person of habit I am I always stick with the two soft taco combo with steak, rice, and beans. The servers are very attentive filling empty cups and empty chip dishes very quickly and the food always comes out in a timely manner and cooked to order. The only two things I did not like was the cheese gets put on the hot plate, so it is almost all melted when it gets to your table and they could put a little more sour cream and guacamole. The reason for my 4 stars was the pricing on food. YES the food is always delicious and the service is ALWAYS awesome, the prices are a little steep. $15 for my regular plate with just two steak tacos, rice and beans.
