Probably the best Mexican food we've found on the road so far. I've tried two different dishes here and they were both bomb. Got the SoCal Burrito last time, and it didn't disappoint. What I like about this joint is that they don't skimp on the meat. Lots of places will stuff your burritos with rice or other fillers, but this one was literally brimming with Asada. It was cooked just right. Wifey got the chilaquiles and enjoyed them. We both really like the place. Note: the atmosphere is somewhat lax. First time I went with friends. I was a bit apprehensive but after their $9.95 lunch special my pre-judgement has changed. I have been dining at Castaic for the last 24 years and not much has changed. There were a few businesses that came and left but the old ones are still around. Casa Lupita is one of them but it is in a little corner that I often bypass it. So, going back to the lunch special, I ordered a steak ranchero. It said ranchero slice with green bell peppers, onion and tomato. Comes with rice and beans on the side. Okay, pretty standard I thought. They gave us tortilla chips and salsa for starters. Another standard item, ... until I started on the chips. It is fresh, crispy and not too oily, and the salsa was very good. With this I am now looking forward to what my steak ranchero looks like. I was not disappointed. My steak ranchero is exactly what it id ... a steak. I got two slices of good and juicy ranchero steak. They were not sliced into small strips but rather it was two good portions, topped with nicely grilled bell peppers, onions and tomato. The refried beans was topped with a baked crusted cheese. The Spanish rice was topped with their salsa. I ordered flour tortilla with it and it was excellent. The place is quaint but homey. Service was fast and courteous. The food is excellent. The hard shell tacos are amazing and very filling. I've tried the hard shell ground beef and shredded beef. I always add guacamole. Two tacos = a very filling meal. Also the 36 oz fountain drink is a nice option when it's hot. We order to go and food is ready in 10-15min. Highly recommend. read more

I stopped by with my family for breakfast early on a crisp weekday morning in January. We sat in their outside during room. Pleasant and efficient waitress turned on a gas heater for us and did not mind when we moved table a bit to get nearer to the heat. The place is not fancy, but everything was clean and neat. Cast iron chairs and tables,, if I recall. Colorful decorations. Bathroom was pleasant and clean. I ordered chilaquiles with eggs over medium and they were great! Coffee was fresh and hot, with several refills. We were rocking on down the highway again well fed and happy in less than an hour. A good meal and a good value. This place is SO good. The service, the prices, the chips (fresh out of the fryer for each table), the food! I love it. My favorite is the Carne Asada Plate with rice and beans (covered in cheese). There is a very magical part of the plate where the carne asada and the beans/cheese kind of blend together. I was so excited to try this place after reading all the great reviews and seeing a Facebook post with a picture of the huge shrimp cocktail. So I came with a friend for lunch on Friday. The first impression was not good. The one and only waitress ignored us as we were picking a table to sit down at. She saw us but didn't say a word. It took about 5 mins before she gave us a menu. The small dining room was quickly filling up and it became obvious that the waitress was getting overwhelmed. She had to take orders and bring food and drinks to all the tables both inside and outside. We ordered a shrimp cocktail, albondigas soup, a trio of soft tacos and a hanger steak combo. Out of all these dishes, the best tasting were the albondigas soup and shrimp cocktail. The shredded beef and chicken soft tacos were okay but the carne asada was very dry and tasteless. I didn't even want to finish eating the carne asada. I was so disappointed since the Yelp reviews had raved about the carne asada. We did not get any service after the waitress brought us the food since she was handling the entire restaurant. I felt bad for her. She was doing the best she could. I don't understand why they only have one waitress working on a busy Friday lunch time. I doubt I will be back, maybe during a slow time. Too bad....I had such high expectations. read more
