I only have two complaints about this place. If you didn't know how good the food is, you may drive right past it. It's not pretty. The interior is old and dated and it's very small. Second complaint, the presentation of the food can sometimes be less than appetizing. However, I have yet to order anything in Casa Lupita that did not taste absolutely delicious. The staff is friendly and the food is obviously made with great care. I usually order the Lupita's Special because I really can't decide. California Burrito is great. Machaca is awesome. Chilaquiles for breakfast on Father's Day!!! And always order a plate of chorizo and beans for the table. My son was out visiting on leave (Army) and this is where he wanted to eat before I drove him to the airport to fly back. That should say everything. read more

If you have a menudo craving (Sat/Sun), go to Casa Lupitas! Yum! You may need to wait for a seat Sunday morning, but their breakfasts are pretty good. The chilaquiles are ok though. Hubby had the Chile Verde omelette which was delicious and a hefty-sized portion. The chile Colorado was alright. 5 stars to the super nice and attentive waitress. She was alone on this particular day and the place was packed. She (the daughter of the owner) brings your food with a smile and was just awesome! I give this place 3 stars but would LOVE to give it 5! Upon walking into this place I was super excited knowing I was going to get some authentic Mexican food. The smell of the food was insanely good! I ordered a carne asada burrito and one crunchy chicken taco. The taco was perfect! In fact, I wish I ordered one more and nixed the burrito. After eating that amazingly good taco I was ready to tear into my burrito. Bite after bite I was spitting out fatty pieces of carne asada- no joke, every bite there were pieces of white gristle. That is my biggest pet peeve! It was inedible. I finally opened up the burrito and it was covered in nothing but fatty pieces of carne.I was so disappointed and hungry :( read more

So to understand what makes a great Mexican restaurant you have to know the basic Mexican recipes. For instance, a chili relleno is made with a grilled pueblo pepper, NOT a boiled jalapeño pepper.... And the flautas have caldo de pollo or chicken stew inside? WTF!? That was DISGUSTING! I havent EVER had a flauta made that way before..... I tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt and ate the chili relleno, rice and beans anyways but no later than 15min after my husband and I finished our meals, we got really sick! I dont know how this place has so many stars but the previous guests either dont realize what authentic Mexican food tastes like or they think this is how its supposed to taste. NOT!!!! NO BUENO!! So this is the third Mexican restaurant I've tried since moving to Castaic 3 weeks ago. I have to say it is by far the best. Authentic taste, excellent service, and friendly staff. I was welcomed with some warm chips and tasty salsa. I placed my order for a wet burrito and a side of rice. I didn't have to wait to long for my food to arrive and wow, the taste was amazing. Tastes like my grandma's cooking which is a great thing! I will definitely be back to eat soon (the waitress asked that I come back at least weekly lol). The only con (and it won't stop me from coming again) is the dining room is a little small. I left at what looked like the beginning of the dinner rush and there were only two tables available. I can only imagine how packed it must get when dinner is in full swing. No worries though, they do take out! read more

"Best Carnitas" Feb 25 2008 Lunch Update Just want to let you know what I order when I go there. I order the Carnitas Plate and I subsitute the beans for Hash Browns. What a great combination that is! I have eaten this twice this week and I am still hooked on it. I call it High Blood Pressure on a plate :) This place was great. One of the ways I know a place is a hit with my wife is if we end up going there twice in one week. And that is exactly what happened when we stumbled upon this place. I had to drive into Castaic for business and my wife wanted to go with me. We decided to go to lunch out there somewhere and the first 2 places we chose my wife smelled something funny at each place. So of course when we arrived at Casa Lupita, I was wondering if we were going to stay. Glad we did. I ordered the Chicken Mole, which by the way is what I ask for at every Mexican restaurant and I judge the place based on their version of the dish. My wife ordered a tamale that was the size of a huge burrito. She loved it and tried to finish it all but she had to give in and have it for lunch the next day (which she says reheated very well) The service was Awesome, our servers name was September and she was attentive to all of our needs. You go girl!! At our second visit, it was more crowded and I think we got the last available table in the small dining room. This time I ordered a 2 enchilada combo with a soft carnitas taco on the side. Once again, this place scored another home run with me. The beef in the enchilada was shredded and tender, pork carnitas in the taco was tender, full of flavor. What can I say about the chips and salsa. Start with the chips. Took a little bit longer to get once we sat down because they only want to bring it to us when it is warm. They are light, crunchy, no dullness detected in the chips tasted. Salsa, it is "kicked up a notch" but only a notch. The other places serve you salsa that I think is pretty much bland because they dont want to blow the taste buds out of most people, but this place has a little more pep to the salsa. Also have others, if it is not hot enough. Only negative thing I can say is that the dining room was small but it had a great "mom and pop" feel of the joint. And I love these kinds of places! 09/09/07 - I just took the family there for lunch today and I ordered the Carnitas Plate. Hands down, I think this is the best place for Carnitas ! This place has the best Mexican Food in the SCV!! Good chips and salsa to boot. It's out of my way, as i'm in Canyon Country...but any time i can go by Lupitas, i'm there. I go back and forth between Lupitas Special Combo (chile relleno, beef taco and cheese enchilada) and the carnitas plate. Both are out of this world!! Flautas are also great. My father swears the Machaca beef is outstanding, but i'm not a fan. I think this place is an old Taco Bell or something, because there is a small dining area inside, although they have several tables outside. We were driving into LA and just couldn't wait to get some food so we decided to try the area of Castiac. We sat outside and had the nicest and cutest bartender taking care of us. She was really sweet and attentive. My partner order the quesadilla and I ordered the fajitas, both were really exceptional. Great tasting steak, with excellent texture. Fantastic Family restaurant right off I5 North In Castaic. I drive the Grape Cine every week and was really hungry and it was simply by chance I stopped by and was I delighted. The Staff were friendly, and really seemed to love what they do, the food was fresh and delicious, fast service, and chips and salsa a real bonus. the food here was mediocre my taquitos were a bit soggy and the steak inside was terribly tough and extremely hard to chew the flavor in the rice and beans were okay my boyfriend got a cheeseburger i think he messed up by ordering a burger from a mexican restaurant but he said it was extremely dry and flavorless he didn't even want to eat it and i placed my order on the phone and i was told the mexicali burger comes with guac yet we received no guac on the burger there's a taco truck walking distance from this place called tacos valles parked right outside tommies cafe i highly recommend this place for any mexican food i promise you'll find yourself traveling to that area just for their food i thought i took a video of our food but i can't seem to find it read more

This place ain't no Casa Bonita, but it it certainly is a great little mexican place in Castaic. We ordered Rice and Beans, Taquitos, and the Chicken Fajitas. The chicken fajitas were very generous, they give you 4 or 5 tortillas and way more meat and veggies than you could reasonably fit in them. That was pretty satisfying to my OCD, and was meant I could make my packed-to-the-top fajita. The taquitos were generously slathered in guac and sour cream, and they had that fresh crispy crunch to them. The chicken inside was perfectly cooked to just be dry enough to go with the salsa. Everything tasted freshly cooked and had just enough grease to make you feel a tad guilty about it. The chicken for the fajitas was also particularly of note. It had some really good seasoning going on. Not quite Mexican, a bit more garlic and pepper. If you add a bit of the rice and beans to the fajita, it all goes together great. read more

Well after having no idea where to go in Castaic starting off a roadtrip I turned to yelp. I mean, where else can you find the best places to eat no matter where you're at? I was looking forward to extremely good chips and salsa but was let down slightly when both seemed to need more flavor. The chips seemed to be too dry to hold salt on them and the salsa was just OK. While we ordered our dinner a gigantic party came in filled with about 7 loud kids and 3 adults which practically filled up the place. The lone waitress was tasked to handle all which she did extremely well and exceptionally politely. I couldn't have done it. Now on to the food I got the chicken flautas plat with rice and beens and 3 shredded beef tacos with cheese the is hands down the best Mexican food I have ever had it is absolutely delicious I am a truck driver and I park at the truck stop next door and I will be here to eat for sure every time I come into town.
