I randomly found this while searching online for local restaurants in Tucson. Upon finding it, I was so excited to try it out and immediately made reservations a couple weeks out. Once my husband and I arrived, at 7 o'clock on a Friday a couple weeks ago, we were sat immediately. I ordered a Horchata, I found their take on it, refreshing and unique. The pistachio coconut rim was so different, but good! I ordered the chef board appetizer ,which comes out looking like a work of art. I believe there were four different cheeses/spreads, and multiple arrays of fruits and sides. I loved it! My husband liked his pork belly appetizer too. Our meals were both phenomenal, with my husband, choosing the salmon dish and I had the chicken piccata dish. Fries taste fresh and had the perfect crisp tothem., well, though I didn't expect the olives with my entree, they really helped him make the dish! Even the leftover was amazing. My only complaint from this visit was the $14 curry I ordered which was severely lacking. I love curry and order it often at different places. This one could've used more flavor, and I really wish it would've had more than just potatoes in it. I definitely took it home to work on it. This place is pretty pricey , and boosts are very small menu, but they did have some nightly specials to also order from. It's extremely small with only six tables maybe, but there is a covered and enclosed patio as well! read more

Phenomenal! This place is so so special I almost don't want to say too much in my review to keep the element of surprise! But what I will share is this was the BEST place to spend our 10th wedding anniversary for a truly delightful dinner! We had the most charming and wonderful server. They all seem fantastic but we adored our lovely server! She was so helpful with any questions asked. So go knowing you will have incredible service! The food is Delicious! Let's paint a picture. You've just parked yourself outside an apartment building. You see what looks like a little entrance to a garden. You step inside the garden and instantly you smell jasmine or freesia or both? Whatever it is sets the tone. You walk in the little home attached to the garden, and it's like a tiny little room that's got Himalayan salt for windows. The decor is kitsch: new world vs old. You sit down at the table you're reserved ahead of time (because this is not the place for stumbling in unannounced!). The music is swanky, probably Gotan Project or some other jazz music. Your server is awesome and will make you feel right at home. They are going to tell you the specials and you're going to say yes. Yes to the cocktail, yes to the appetizer yes to the entree and yes to dessert. The cocktails are soooooo fresh and delicious you're going to order more even though you know you shouldn't. You are going to giggle and laugh the whole time because it is that good. And you're absolutely going to go to the bathroom and take a selfie. Because if you come here, it's a must. You're going to pay lots of money but still leave satisfied knowing it was worth it, especially knowing how fresh, organic and delicious everything was. My hubby took me on a dinner date to Casa Madre which we're glad we went because it was their last night open before they go on their summer hiatus until August. It's a small restaurant, but beautiful and romantic inside so I recommend making a reservation if you want to eat inside during the warm Tucson weather season. They also offer a lovely outdoor patio. Rose was our lovely server and mixologist that provided excellent service. Our cocktails were outstanding . I had the Aperol Spritz and my hubby had a margarita. He also asked for a couple of gin surprise cocktails which he was pleased with. As for appetizers I had the Shrimp sauteed in butter,white wine,garlic and crushed red pepper with grilled bread and he had the Bacon Wrapped Dates. Both were delicious and flavorful. Our entrees did not disappoint. He had the ribeye and I had the tilapia. We had enough room for dessert, and being a dark chocolate lover, I chose the obvious option. Absolutely make a reservation and soon. The setting is intimate, relaxed and welcoming. It has a"speak easy" or "hidden garden" vibe and once inside, the glowing Himalayan salt wall, fresh flowers, gorgeous and mismatched china and friendly service will seduce you. We had the herby fresh green salad (amazing dressing!), scalloped potatoes with poblano (sublime!), a mushroom soup of the day, shrimp dish and ended with mango gelato that was sheer perfection. No vegan dishes and not much vegetarian on the menu but I got a sense they would be accomodating to adjustments, so if that is your style of eating, check out the menu first. It is clear that everything is made with obvious love and attention to detail. Oh, and they have a patio, which looks like it would be just a wonderful place to dine when the weather cools down. The best meal we had in Tucson. Everything here felt upgraded. The Horchata had coconut and cardamom and was incredible. The Jamaica had tart cherry. We had the Chile Relleno, and Ribeye and both were excellent. I love their unique take on everything here. It's also a beautiful, romantic, and intimate restaurant. Casa Madre, Fantastic! You will be very happy to have the privilege to dine here. We enjoyed the bacon wrapped figs, pear walnut salad, rib eye and pan seared salmon. The first time we went to Casa Madre was amazing! The food was absolutely delicious and I had my favorite cocktail of all time there. We've eaten a lot of food and had a lot of cocktails over the years and honestly this is one of the greatest meals we had. Though it's small the atmosphere was fun and yet still felt private. However that didn't stop us from pushing our table together with the couple next to us even though we didn't know them....we couldn't ignore each other's oooing and ahhhing about the food and so we decided to join tables and order every single dessert to share! So not only do we have a great meal , but we made new friends! The service was fantastic. We wanted to go back for a special occasion but unfortunately they had to unexpectedly close for the evening. They source several ingredients from local vendors, the atmosphere is upscale without feeling snobby or unwelcoming, and the patio area is just so cute. I read the reviews ahead of time and was prepared for the how warm it would be inside (wore shorts), but I really hope they do something about the AC. They have a small menu (3 main entree options) which is fine but were out of the dish I came for (Tilapia) and one of their 4 cocktails (Nanas). They also brought out the main entree right after the appetizers instead of spacing the timing. We both really liked the Dirty Turnip-Tini. The Madre Margarita was interesting. The stone fruit caprese was really good as was the special appetizer of the night which was a shrimp beignet salad. We shared the ribeye and the steak was decent, just not very flavorful. This cozy space is divine. The earthy brick environment creates an intimate, almost underground atmosphere that transports you away from the busy streets nearby. Even with the small dining area of eight tables (and a handful of spots at the bar), the space never felt crowded in. Our servers were both pleasant and extremely knowledgeable of the menu and gave us excellent choices to explore. Appetizers and entrees are sizable and easy to be shared with another. The wine list included some interesting bottles, and the cocktails looked fabulous. The menu is small, with four entrees on the menu and one special. We enjoyed the soup of the day ($16), which was a riff on French onion soup featuring short rib. The only cheese with the soup was melted on a nice-sized crostini. It was a very flavorful and lower-calorie way to experience the soup. We split the wedge salad ($17), which was a fairly typical wedge you'd find in a steakhouse with organic greens and cherry tomatoes. The Roquefort blue cheese dressing was the highlight of the dish. I loved the appetizer of stuffed dates ($12) for my entree. Four large dates were stuffed with Spanish chorizo and wrapped in bacon. But the star of our meal was the ribeye ($75), which defined the word "tender" and sat on a bed of au gratin potatoes. For those who have been in Tucson for a long time, Casa Madre will give you all of the wonderful feels that The Dish, which used to be part of The Rum Runner shops, was able to impart during its run. read more

This little restaurant (8 tables for two) is in the new building in the five points. My friends and I enjoyed dinner tonight this first week Casa Madre opened. I had a delicious stone fruit burrata salad with cherry and plum and burrata cheese. So perfect for a summer starter or meal. We also tried the bacon wrapped dates, which are a sweet and savory starter, prepared perfectly. There were three non- alcoholic drinks, three alcoholic cocktails, and a selection of wines. I got the Agua Fresca of the day and added vodka, which was guava lime special. I ordered the chile relleno of Cuban black bean puree & Arroz Con Crema. Fabulous dish. The menu will be changing and rotating so please check their website because chef mentioned the pending dishes coming in a week or two. There isn't yet a marquee outside so finding the entrance might be tricky at this point, so I posted my buddy pointing to the entrance off 18th. The restaurant was warm inside , since this is a brick building in summer in Tucson. Dress for the weather as if on a patio. This fall there expects to be additional patio seating. A small and intimate restaurant at 5 points. At first we could not find the entrance because there is no signage. Once inside the service was great. We ordered appetizers of the stone fruit Burrata and the pork belly buffalo style. Everything was fresh. The pork belly melted in our mouths. For my entree I had the tilapia. I loved the limequats on top of the fish, eaten together the flavors burst in your mouth. The potatoes were plenty and delicious. For dessert we had the lemon ice box cake and the homemade salted carmel ice cream. The ice box cake had a wonderful lemon curd and the meringue was a nice touch. We started with the Caprese salad, which incorporated pepitas for an interesting twist, followed by the chef board which along with its unique flavor combinations was enough food for an entire meal so beware. The food here was pretty delicious. Very promising new place if they can fix the cooling issues. We started with that nights special of shrimp beignets. Shrimp wrapped in a fresh basil leaf and then a tempura or rice paper wrapping. Served with a garlic citrus arugula salad. Nice bite from the basil and sweetness from the shrimp, balanced and great start to the evening. The stone fruit and burrata salad was elegant and the burrata was creamy and perfectly seasoned. The cheese and the tart cherries with balsamic glaze had a great balance of flavors and textures. The bacon wrapped dates were a miss for me. The dates were very sweet, bacon very salty and no flavor from the chorizo inside at all. Needed some acid or a creamy element. The ribeye was the star of the show. Herbaceous chimichurri over a perfectly cooked medium rare ribeye. The meat was perfectly seasoned and melt in your mouth. I was even able to cut with a butter knife. The poblano scalloped potatoes they were served atop were an amazing pop of flavor. I wish there were more potatoes instead of the bland zucchini pieces on the plate. We finished the night with the lemon ice box cake. It was a promising idea but can use some finessing. The meringue had unincorporated raw sugar left in it which made very gritty and overly sweet. The lemon curd had great sour punch and creamy in texture. The caramel inside had become to crystallize so it also had a grainy quality. If they could fix the meringue and caramel this dish will be stellar. **This place was so close to five stars but had a couple of facility issues. Very warm in there. No air was circulating which is an issue for a small space with tables very close together. Thank God I had my hand fan! read more

My husband is a chef and extremely hard sell, so when he is loving it, I know we have found a gem! Try the bacon wrapped dates, delish! I had the rib eye cooked and seasoned to perfection, he had the chile relleno dish, and not wanting our dining experience to end, we shared a tangy lemon cake (more like a lemon meringue cheesecake cake). The most fun I have had in a long time going out to dinner. The ambiance immediately makes you feel at ease. I think it's the salt tiles they imported especially for the bar wall. It's illuminating the entire space with shifting colors. I ordered the Parsnip Martini which was the strangest cocktail I have ever had until it became the most delicious accompaniment to the gazpacho and also our salad. Truly inspired pairing that just got better with every other sip. The service made us feel special and at the same time at home. The steak was amazing and more than enough for the two of us. We finished with wonderfully presented fresh made ice cream with gold leaf and crunchy bits mixed in and a sponge toffee creating Proustian memories on the spot.
