We made reservations for 2 to have dinner before we went to a show at the Gallo center and couldn't stand being in the restaurant lobby, much less stay for a meal. It was early evening and the windows were all open but the music was LOUD! Ear splitting loud music with a heavy bass pounding away so that you could barely have a conversation. Ignore the harsh reviews for this brand new place downtown. Day 4 and we had a great experience. No outside seating yet and only a limited menu til next week. Give 'em a try and see for yourself. This place is AMAZING!!! It's beautiful inside and the food is so good. This was my second time there in a week and the food was still as good as the first time I went. The manager Ricardo was so awesome and friendly and he kept on checking in with all the customers and I also noticed he was helping out with customers which I loved that, because that shows he cares and he also helped bring out our food and I had to meet him and he was so professional and nice! The food is very authentic and you can tell it was made from scratch! My husband also enjoyed the food and was very surprised how good they are. I recommend them and can't wait to go back and now I finally have a favorite Mexican restaurant to go to. You also get big portions of food. I ordered the Chicken Fajitas but didn't take photo of the rice and beans to show but hopefully my photo of the chicken fajita can show you the portion. I was pleasantly surprised to find this lovely gem in Modesto. Freshly made spicy salsa with the perfect blend of spices that are spicy enough to be authentic but not so overpowering that you can't taste the flavors. The chips were also fresh, crisp, lightly salted and hot, delicious. When I met the owner Danny I was surprised that they'd only been open for a week. All the staff were attentive and provided outstanding recommendations and top notch customer service. They even made me an off menu cocktail when I gave them the ingredients further showing their dedication to customer service, and attentiveness, as they were very busy at the time. This is an excellent venue that is worth waiting for, so poppin' that they'd sold out of some menu items but I'll definitely be back. There are a lot of negative reviews as to quality of food but we had a very different experience. Our entire party really enjoyed the food including the chips and salsa. Not sure what vibe the restaurant is going for. We had an early Saturday night dinner and the place was rather empty but the large tvs had 90s music videos playing extremely loud. Camarones a la crema were straight up covered in crema and hardly any chipotle flavor as you'd expect. 24$ for camarones a la diabla without the quality to match the price, overpriced. A decent price for camarones a la diabla are reasonable around 18$ with solid flavor. Aesthetics alone aren't going to go very far. Truthfully was hoping this place would have been a chill spot to revisit but that won't be happening. Constructively, re-evaluate the cooks since they are the ones assembling the let down food. Six of us attended and 4 out of 5 did not like their meal at all. The sixth one didn't even bother to order food because they had previously tried it and didn't have a good experience. I get it, this is the perfect spot to have an eatery and restaurant..you have the Gallo Arts Center caddy corner to the establishment, you have the court house, Modesto Police Department HQ, and the County Municipal offices all within 1 block of you establishment, you have a massive amount of foot traffic available for you to have ever table completely taken, but you've failed. I walk in during what should be the peak of the lunch rush, all tables open except for 1. I suppose it should have been telling when you had only 1 server working the tables, the orders, drinks and cleaning. Even with no one in the restaurant I still would wait 10 minutes before having my order taken and another 15 for the order to be brought out. I was served a complimentary basket of nacho chips and red salsa. the chips appear to be made in house, and the salsa as well. the Salsa lacked any flavor or seasoning (salt), it was just a tepid pool of blended tomatoes ( just tomato sauce) this should have been the clue to what the food would taste like. I thought I would test the waters with a simple order as I was not very hungry but wanted to give Casa Maestro's a chance without overspending, I'm being budget conscious. I placed a 1/2 order of Carne Asada Nachos with a Coke, as I mentioned something simple, fast, and normally edible, I waited 15 minutes for a glop of Salamandar melted cheese over obviously precooked carne asada bits (minimal) and sparsely scattered. The Carne Asada was cold..they didn't even bother to warm it up, just placed it in the nachos, spread the cheese over it and placed under the Salamander to melt the cheese.. no wonder the carne asada was cold and well hidden ..I was hunting for. nuggets. the meat lacked flavor and spices and was tough to chew. Needless to say, had a couple of bites to taste it and see if I was over reacting with my disgust, I was not! I left the entire order along with my ice glass, paid for my order and left unsatisfied. You are better off going over one more block sow to Taco Bell across the street and getting the Nacho Bell Grande there...two thumbs down...I can only imagine how bad the rest of their menu items are and how many poor souls would have had to torture their mouths with such an nasty mess. It is also quite obvious that after ever accurate poor rating their is an effort by the establishment to bump their rating by spoofing yelp and having bots, friends , family boost them by placing a 5 star rating right after the bad rating feedback. read more

I can understand that many food venues are short staffed so service can be difficult. So I have to give them some slack on slowness, which was understandable. But aside from the good, friendly and humorous greeting, I cannot recommend this place for a number of reasons. We sat in the bar area, so were very visible to the server at the bar, although he never seemed to look at us, except when we waved wildly to get his attention. I had the carnitas quesadilla, and my wife a nachos. We also ordered margaritas. It went south from there. No chips or salsa, although we asked the waiter. Never came. No waters, although asked for 3 separate times. The margaritas were a bit too sweet, and small. And besides not being made with reposado as requested, which was obvious from the taste. I finally got the servers attention and asked for 2 more shots of reposado, which I expect to pay for, and they came. They came in the heavy glass, less volume shot glasses I know about. Looks good, but is "short" on the pour. Okay, we did it, which did improve the drinks. Next came the food. Which was served with no knives, which made cutting up the large quesadillas a chore. Time was long as you would expect when shorthanded, so I have no complaint. But it was almost inedible, and we had to chase them down again to get some salsa to try and cover the flavor. It did help a bit. My quesadilla was generous in size, but lacked cheese, and the dab of sour creme only took care of half. The hot salsa made it edible. My wifes Nachos had what we assume was cheese, but looked like a caked brown scrambled egg with flavor and granular texture to match. We poured the hot sauce on because we were in a hurry and she was hungry. Then we waved for several minutes before the greeter saw us (Not his job, he has other duties) and he told the waiter/ server. Then the real shock hit. They charged $16 PER shot for the needed reposado. When I questioned the server, he said it was Don Julio & was premium, didn't add if they had any other house or less expensive brand. There was NO notation of this anywhere on the bill nor the menu. Considering the full margaritas we ordered with reposado were only $12 each that was ridiculous. That means they get $380 per bottle of DJ, which most wholesalers get $50-55! That they don't have a bar brand is too much. So aside from the friendly professional greeting, nothing went right. My best friend and I went out bar hopping last night in downtown Modesto. We went to Casa Maestros. The bartenders were incredibly rude. It took us over 20 minutes to get a drink. We finally asked a waitress to get us a drink while we were standing there at the bar. When we finally got our drinks my glass had a huge crack in it and a chip in the side! The service was terrible!! We waited over 20 minutes to take our order and it took them over 12 minutes to get our margaritas to us and the place wasn't even busy. The manager had guacamole made special for us because we're allergic to cilantro and he brought us a cabbage slaw type mess with almost no avocado in it to call it guac. BUT the taste of the food is something I cannot say I expected The waitress I had was very sweet. I would recommend her but I forgot her name. The food was very bland. The beans were so thin and had no flavor along with the meat. I was so disappointed in the food. I know it's a newer restaurant so maybe they'll add more flavor to their food later on.
