Went to Casa Tina when I was down visiting my mother. I chose it largely for the Chile en Nogado, which is a picadillo stuffed chile covered with a brandy, walnut, cream sauce. It used to be one of her favorite restaurants. The place is nicely decked out. If you look at the pix, you will see a great atmosphere reminiscent of restaurants in different areas of Mexico. A definite 5 star based on the atmosphere. Service was also good, although nothing particularly stands out. I started with their version of an old fashioned which had a smoky Mezcal rather than the normal bourbon. Interesting alternative, but unlikely I would have one again. No points knocked off, as this is a personal preference and I give them kudos for the Mexican take on a classic. The food was okay. I really like the idea of having some unique dishes you won't find in normal Amerimex joints. Having a stuffed pepper with a cream sauce was a nice twist. I found the flavors to be fairly normal, albeit a bit too sweet for my taste. The rest of the meal (beans and rice) were fairly bland, unlike similar dishes I have had in Mexico. Finished dessert with crepas de cajeta. I was expecting a texture more like a crepe with the sauce, ice cream, and almonds on top. Instead, it had a texture more like a tortilla. Definite downpoints. I didn't dislike the meal, overall, but I think there are much better Mexican places in the general area, including some that are a bit more in this casual, midscale type of Mexican restaurant. read more

WONDERFUL... Not often you find a place where the decor AND the food leave you speechless!! Easy to tell that this place is a true labor of love and a nostalgic trip back "home" to Mexico for me. I had my "standard" chile relleno, which was expertly prepared, "elevated," but far from fussy. My friends enjoyed their cocktails (they have a HUGE listing of TEMPTING offers...) and their late lunch/early dinner choices as well. Got a lunch with my wife here during a weekend craft fair event at the nearby park. We love Mexican food and finding it in FL has been a challenge. Case Tina hits the mark. If there are other great restaurants nearby we will never know because we will keep going back here. The good. The food. When you move to Florida you get a ton of great Caribbean and South American food but Mexican food tends to be a miss. That was not the case here awesome menu and great execution. The atmosphere, it's a big space with a lot of seating and even a little noisy but it all comes together to make a fun and relaxing environment. With the amount of trendy over-designed taco places around it was nice to be somewhere comfortable that wasn't trying to look like a bohemian art lounge. I cannot STOP loving Casa Tina. I come here EVERY time I'm in FL. I prioritize it over even seeing friends and family. I HAVE TO eat Casa Tina. And I HAVE to have Los Dos Moles. The chocolate mole is a little sweet and a little spicy. The green mole is a little spicy. Both were rich in veggies. I could honestly have just eaten the mole and veggies (and my tight pants today say I should have lol,) but the black beans are DELICIOUS and the warm tortillas were too good to pass up. I also had a Mezcalita, AA margarita with Mezcal; and asked our server to make a Oaxacan Old Fashioned but sub the Godiva liqueur for Aztec Mole Bitters. Oh HELL yes the drinks were SO good too. My hubby had the Enchiladas Rojas made vegan (no cheese or sour cream.) He said they were very good. And with him leaving NOTHING on his plate I'm going to assume he was honest about that. My son is THE pickiest when it comes to Mexican food, as he really doesn't like it. I LOVE it, as does my daughter. SO we did some figuring out and asked if we could get him 2 hardshell tacos with JUST rice and guacamole. Thank goodness they're SO accommodating and that worked and he ate! I authentically believe people who gave this place five stars have no idea what actual Mexican food is. As a hispanic this place is definitely less than Americanized Mexican food. The environment inside is very decorative but also very misleading. The drinks are about $3 bucks each for soda- the agua fresca was $3.50 and it was a smaller cup (picture below) filled with a bunch of ice so I paid $3.50 for basically a taste of Agua de Jamaica. No refills unless you want to get charged again. The house margarita is also $9 bucks in the same small cup when you can get a giant one at your local Chili's for about the same price. In addition to that, The food was super super disappointing. To begin with, the salse and chips is $3.95. For about $4 you would think you would get a substantial amount but it definitely was a small portion with basically chunky pico de gallo. We got the Chilis rellenos, they were boiled not grilled so it was basically a soggy chili with no cheese. The rice tasted bad and the beans were just puree black beans (not typical refried beans you would think a typical Mexican place would have). The carne asada is $23.95 and guess what- comes with NO tortillas after we asked for some withOUT an additional charge. The carnitas are literally pork chunks- I have never seen carnitas come out that big at ANY mexican restaurant and with NO flavor. (You would have better pork chunks made at a cuban restaurant cause at least they give you mojo to help with the dryness) I asked for a side of sour cream and wish the waitress told me it's an extra $1.25 for a dollop of sour cream. Not to mention the side of salad on the plate looks like the packaged salad from your local publix of a bit of lettuce, cucumbers and a bit of purple cabbage. Long story short- HUGE WASTE of TIME AND MONEY for mediocre food that is the BEST GUESS of what MEXICAN FOOD might be. Taco Bell would have definitely have been the BETTER choice. I was disappointed, that as a Mexican restaurant, that we had to pay for Chips and Salsa (Pico) which are usually free anywhere else. The Queso Fundido was ok, but definitely had better. The water they serve is undrinkable and had to asked for bottled water. The house margarita were good, so was the Mojito, but both could use more alcohol for the price they charge. On the other hand, the refried black beans were delicious, the rice was underwhelming and not cooked thorough. But the Birria Tacos my husband had were delicious, so were my Lengua Tacos and both of my kids enjoyed their dishes as well. One was Carnitas en Salsa Verde and Chicken Tamales. I ordered a taco salad and it was HUGE! certainly enough for two people. My friends ordered nachos and enchilada dishes and they really enjoy them. Drinks are well made. First of all; just as everyone says, this place is wonderfully decorated, and I would have gone wall to wall checking it out if it weren't for the fact that I'd be looking over people as they ate. The restaurant was pretty busy, but we were seated immediately (without a reservation). JoJo was our server and was pretty attentive throughout our time there. We had barely gotten into our chips and salsa appetizer when our order (Queso Panela Salad, and veggie enchiladas with Mole Poblano) came out (super fast!). I know several reviews have questioned the Mexican-ness of the food, and over the years of palate confusion caused by tons of Tex-Mex and/or Americanized Mexican, I wouldn't be able to vouch for how authentic this food was, but I was very pleased with our order. The mole poblano sauce was the highlight of the meal - the cinnamon and chocolate were prominent with a nice spice - Yum! The side of rice and black beans was tasty. Huge whole slices of tomatoe, large strips of Pinellas cheese, and whole slices of onion looked beautiful when brought out; but how do you eat it? The plate was so full that it was very difficult to cut up and eat. Now, let me also say it was DELICIOUS! I've been coming to Casa Tina since moving to Florida in 2010. Visited again this week. The guacamole is plentiful and tasty. The salsa is chunky style and delicious. But the chorizo queso fundido is the star, even though it's not the same as it used to be when it was the best in the bay. This visit I had the Chiles En Nogada for the first time. It has good heat, great flavor, and it's now definitely going into the rotation. Because it happened to be Valentine's Day we also got the flourless chocolate cake they had as a special. For starters the place is gorgeous inside - a bit eclectic and decorated nicely for the holidays. The restaurant was pretty empty as we came during the holiday parade so we were seated immediately. Service was oddly slow for their initial visit and bringing drinks despite how empty but whatever. Our waiter was super friendly. We only wanted appetizers so we got the beef nachos. It came out FAST so that was great though they did miss a request for the jalapeños on the side. This thing was huge & stacked with chips and toppings! So here is where opinions differ. My boyfriend loved it and he's not a nacho guy. He liked how it wasn't loaded with cheese and there was plenty of beef on there as well as it was set up well to grab a chip and scoop up other toppings. I didn't love it myself as it just didn't have enough cheese and there were a lot of naked chips (some which were a tad burnt but not terrible). I did love how the black beans were kind of squished up and the chips were strong enough to load up on the toppings. A bit more cheese and I would have been happy. All in all we'd go back again and try some of the entrees or maybe another app. It's in a great location, fairly priced and I'd certainly say for our dish at least a good value for portion size. read more

The original casa Tina margarita was a bit overpriced but just perfect! $13 with tax for a scotch glass sized margarita but still a great choice for the strength and flavor. Probably the best classic marg I've had. Props to the bartender! Food I opted for the Chile Relleno double beans and it was Delcioso! The portion is not large but plenty of food. Comes with 2 small Chile rellenos with excellent flavor. The beans were the dark mole beans with cotija and also excellent flavor. For the price of $20 it's over priced for Mexican food but who knows what's going on during this inflation crisis. It was Friday night and we had the best seat in the house opposite the bar and by the window and front row to the weekend entertainment which was a nice surprise. A short show of aerial acrobatics. My wife and her friend went there the other day and were kind enough to bring me back a chicken burrito. Unfortunately, the genius who made it forgot to add cheese. My poor wife felt so bad that she offered to go back and throw it their face. I held her back and vowed never to buy a damn thing from them again. To hell with you. My first visit to Casa Tina did not disappoint. I came solo for lunch so I don't have a lot of photos, but what I ordered was great! I love that the menu has a mix of foods I see all time and some new to me stuff. I ordered the Arroz Cabezon. "pork and chicken in a tangy pibil sauce made from the mayan spice achiote served on a bed of rice and garnished with guacamole and pickled red onion." They had me at pibil & pickled onions. There were many empty tables being held for 40-60 minutes and it appeared many tables never showed. We waited 20 minutes past our quoted time. This was obvious to other patrons as well- a sweet lady approached our table and said she was shocked that we waited that long and joked that she was tempted to pass us food while we waited because she felt so bad. A friend and I found ourselves in Dunedin around lunchtime. Both of us have seen this restaurant before, but neither one of us had ever tried it. So today was the day and ironically we ordered the same dish. To start off, I will say this restaurant has a wonderful vibrant decor. I really loved the lights in this one section of the restaurant. We were very fortunate to have an absolutely lovely waitress named Jenna, who really understood the menu thoroughly and explained a lot of the dishes to us. Both of us wound up choosing one of the specialties of the house (and overall staff favorite) called: Arroz Cabezon which is "pork and chicken in a tangy pibil sauce served on a bed of rice". We'll let's start with the positives. The service was good and we didn't have to wait even though the restaurant seemed super busy. The ambience is as pretty fun and seems super authentic but classy as well. The food so where things fell off. First off, the chips were super stale, greasy, and way to then. And the charge too much for just chips and salsa that aren't successful. The salsa was fresh and good but the chips brought all of that down. The quesadilla is about as good as I can make in five minutes for lunch when I want a small quesadilla. Not bad, but not great. I expect more. The burrito was meh. Just mediocre.
