    Chicken Tangine

This was my first time trying Moroccan cuisine and I loved it to say the least! The chicken tangine was my favorite dish - it is supercharged with flavor. It's tangy, savory, and made me feel warm. You can tell the chefs prepared everything with so much care. I love the decoration and ambiance inside. It truly felt like a vacation abroad. Staff and owners are so sweet!

Fantastic space and the decor will put you in another world. The size of the restaurant is very deceiving. Nowhere near as small as it appears. The service is impeccable.

WOW! Very unassuming exterior first off. Keep in mind there is only street parking so come with plenty of time to look for parking. We came on a weekday so we didn't struggle too much. Once you walk inside it's like being transported to Morocco. From the music to the decorations, just stunning! I am assuming the lady who waited on us is an owner along with the chef. Either way, it felt like being served by family. They were very attentive and the chef even came out to ask us a few questions and chat. He even joked that a plane would come pick us up after the meal to take us to Morocco haha! It was our first time trying Moroccan food and came from an hour away to try it and they were very happy to hear that. Now for the food, everything was delicious. We tried the Chicken Pastilla (flaky and oh so tasty! Sweet and savory). We also tried the Lamb Honey Tagine (my personal fave, also sweet and savory, full of sticky sweet apricots). It was the most tender fall off the bone meat. We also tried the Kefta tagine which was savory and a good balance for all the sweet flavors in our other dishes. The tomato flavor was rich and warm. Lastly, we tried the assorted cookies and they were all so different: powdery, nutty, sweet. Overall, a must try! They also let us know that weekend dinner service has belly dancers! We will be back for that! Bonus story: they loved my name Guadalupe (they asked our names when we entered and confirmed them at the end of our meal). It was very sweet and added to the family feel of the restaurant.

Mint Tea served North African style of Morocco

Casa Blanca Moroccan Kitchen is deceptively small by its narrow store front, but it is very deep hiding a secret patio garden in back. The kitchen is in front so as you enter you can smell the aromas of Northern African Mediterranean cooking. 1) There is a "Mezze" like Hors d'Oeuvre: a) Cubed red beets, sliced almonds, Feta goat cheese, "herbed house dressing". b) Cooked carrot salad dressed with cumin, Harissa/red chile mix of roasted red peppers, garlic, olive oil, and spices like cumin, coriander, and caraway. c) Refreshing Chopped tomatoes, cucumber, "House Vinaigrette" d) House baked bread touch yeasty with very buttery evoo & agrodolce Aceto Balsamico. 2) Chicken Bastilla: Very thin, crispy, golden brown, airy Philo dough wraps around shredded baked chicken and long braised sweet, touch sour onions which imitate texture of long braised beef. This hill of pastry is sprinkled with white confectioners' sugar to create an alpine Atlas Mountains, snow covered scene. This seems to be the signature dish of Morocco, Tunisia, Libya. 3) Merguez Sausage is thin, long rough ground lamb spiced with cumin, red chiles, Harissa. Casa Blanca's version is lean, meaty, lightly spiced. I've had other versions where more ample Harissa and chiles are infused for piquant effect and aromatics. 4) Lamb Honey Tagine is a huge lamb shank generous enough meat for at least two people. Tagine are long, slow braised in a conical shaped top cover and long braised like pot roast, and the meat falls off the bone. Prunes are also braised in the honey so there is a savory sweet, slightly pleasing gaminess. As the chef mentioned, Moroccan cuisine emphasizes the sweet and savory. 1-4a) Strong Mint Tea was ideal for refreshing the palate from the meaty, sweet sour motif. Too full to order dessert, so it will have to be the next time. Kind, gentle hospitality is the hallmark at Casablanca. They also try to provide tranquility to be able to have mindful dining which is also appreciated. 4+ stars

Simply wow. One minute you're in grimy LA and and then you find yourself in Morocco circa 1492. The food is banging. Great spot to escape the hussle and bussle and rat rolling race. Do yourself a favor, book it!!! Marco/Daphne

Who hasn't dreamed of going on a once in a lifetime trip to Morocco? What do the names Marrakech, Fez, Tangiers and Casablanca conjure up in the imagination? Exotic, spices, perfumed aromas, warmth, color, beauty, and the rich celebration of life -- all of these things signify Morocco to me. I have only been there once many years ago but still relish the culture in which I was immersed there. Well, Casablanca Moroccan Kitchens takes you directly from Melrose to Morocco for a few hours. Under the brilliant creative genius of owner Naïma, you will feel you have been whisked away on a memorable journey of exceptional flavor and imaginative culinary artistry. Take a look at my (24) pictures to see a vivid depiction of what words can only fail to convey. First of all, the interior is gorgeous, filled with the floral majesty and saturated colors of the country and steeped in both history and handcraft. Every inch reveals a piece of Morocco carefully selected by Naïma on her travels back to her home there in Marrakech (the site of the world renowned La Mamounia hotel). Every element of the menu has been curated. Start with the generously portioned exceptional semolina bread, Khobz, made fresh daily by Naïma herself, served as a complimentary appetizer with dark and delicious olives and olive oil/Balsamic vinegar. The menu has quite a few vegan and vegetarian dishes. We chose three but Naïma suggested others, the eggplant among them, to try when we come back next time. And there is plenty for the pescatarian and carnivore as well. One thing I love about Moroccan food is the fact that, among the cuisines of the Middle East and Mahgreb, Moroccan is the closest to my native Sicily in that the vegetables and sauces, as well as the desserts, are seasoned to enhance their flavor but are not harsh or overly bitter or acid as some foods in that area can be. It is easy to eat these meals and they somehow feel familiar while being out of the ordinary. Hajar, our server, was the epitome of welcome and care, coming by again and again to make sure we were well attended (we were!). On top of the satisfying and comforting main dishes, we also had the smoothest espressos I can remember and two delicate, elegant desserts: Naïma's unique verson of baklava, and a specialty usually served during Ramadan, which has been described this way: "Moroccan Chebakia is a traditional, intricate sesame cookie dough, folded into flowers, fried until golden, and soaked in honey scented with orange blossom water. Made with flour, ground sesame seeds, almonds, saffron, and spices, this labor-intensive, crunchy treat is famously served during Ramadan". This was Naïma's gift to us for coming in. Naïma epitomizes her name by being warm and caring, even learning and using our names to make us feel like, well, family. Casablanca opens in the early afternoon, but I wouldn't come before 5 pm. In fact, weekend nights are best as the entire restaurant puts on a show and invites guests to be part of the festivities, with music and even dancing. The rooms twinkle with magic after dark, so try to come during those times and be sure to make a reservation. Parking on the side streets is pretty easy, especially on Sundays. When you need comfort and a vacation, put this at the top of your list.

If you're looking for more than just a meal and want a true experience, Casablanca Moroccan Kitchen absolutely delivers. From the moment you walk in, you're transported--the ambiance, the music, the warmth--it feels like stepping into Morocco itself. The cultural experience is just as rich as the food, and that's what makes this place so special. And the food... truly next level. Every dish is layered with flavor, beautifully spiced, and clearly made with intention and authenticity. You can taste the tradition in every bite. From the perfectly tender meats to the fresh, vibrant sides, everything feels both comforting and elevated. What I loved most is that it doesn't feel commercialized--it feels personal, soulful, and deeply rooted in Moroccan culture. It's the kind of place you go to slow down, connect, and savor every moment. Easily one of the best dining experiences I've had. Not just amazing food--an unforgettable cultural journey.

Came on valentines day- note that when the reservation was made, there was no warning about a prefixed menu set. We could only order the set for 90$ per person, which was substantially more expensive than if we ordered individually. A review on service/prices aren't fair as it was v-day! As for the food, there aren't many Moroccan food spots around LA. Love the traditionally decorated interior. Casablanca salad 7.5/10: trio of beet salad, carrots, and tomato/cucumber. it was amazingly refreshing, but I would not pay more than 15$ for it Lamb Tagine 9.4/10 honey, caramelized prunes, apricots, onions, almonds with a fork-tender lamb shank. sweet and soft fruits, perfectly seasoned. certain meat parts were tough and chewy though fish tagine 6/10: was just okay. sea bass, lemon, potatoes, bell pepper, tastes exactly like it looks baklava and moroccan mint tea was smooth and baklava wasn't as sweet and stale as others i've had - still not my top choice of dessert, but would re-order the tea! chicken pastilla 8.5/10: i WISH the chicken to onion cinnamon paste ratio was better and the shredded chicken wasn't so dry. loved this dish because it has such high potential! flaky pastry with almonds and powdered sugar was perfect. seafood pastilla 7/10: mix of shrimp, scallops, cod, seasoned well. not a huge seafood flavor fan so it's not worth to get again

You have the opportunity to dine at Casablanca Moroccan Kitchens for a reduced price during Dine LA restaurant promotions. So, go now. Dine LA winter offer is January 23 thru February 6, 2026. We had three meat lovers dinners and a pescatarian dinner. The pescatarian dinner is usually $75 but was $55 as were the meat lovers meals. We did bring wine and there was no corkage charge. We were given two small plates of bread and olives as a starter, and at the end of the end complementry baklava. We did order a pot of mint tea and there was a $24 charge for that but it is worth it as a final ending. As others have said, the tip 20% and the sale's tax are added to the bill.. The restaurant is charming as are the owners. There is music and a couple of TVs showing photos of Morocco. As I understand it Anis is the co-owner, host and chef with his wife Niamea who was our server. Our meal started with the bread and olives followed by three of their house salads. After that came the pastille, it seemed bigger than it looks in the photos. After that was my lamb shank over couscous. Everything was good and servings were plentiful. We even took some home.. I would go again.

Complimentary fresh baked bread, olives, Moroccan olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

This place might look small from the outside, but it has a big, cozy outdoor patio that's perfect for dinner. We came on a super hot Saturday for lunch and ended up getting the full Moroccan experience. We were greeted by Anis, who was the owner, chef, and server all in one. Super friendly and welcoming, and you can tell he's really passionate about what he does. He walked us through the menu and told us he created all the dishes himself, which was pretty cool. Right off the bat, he brought us complimentary olives, fresh-baked bread, Moroccan olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. That bread and olive oil alone--wow. I'd come back just for that. We ordered the salad sampler (beet salad, cucumber and tomato, and carrot salad)--all fresh and full of flavor. Then we tried the chicken pastilla, which Anis said is a Moroccan classic--kind of like a sweet and savory meat pie with flaky pastry. For the main course, we had the Lamb Honey Tagine (with honey, prunes, apricots, onions, and almonds) and the Lamb Couscous with a big lamb shank and seven different veggies. This was the best Moroccan food I've ever had--full disclosure, it's also the first Moroccan food I've ever had :). I've realized it might not be my thing, so it's hard for me to judge it fairly. But based on the tons of 5-star Yelp reviews, it's clear that a lot of people love and enjoy the food here. It's a small mom-and-pop spot with a super warm, personal vibe, and Anis is such a charismatic and kind host. I really respect the passion and care that goes into what they do. Definitely worth checking out if you're curious about Moroccan cuisine.

It was also annoying for the waitress (not the gal that served us btw - a host perhaps) to give the vibe like they were doing us a favor by applying the $50 Birthday promo that THEY send via email (note, I verbally this flagged when we arrived just in case - but they didn't initially have it on our bill). My head is thinking "calm down--we ate minimally and got drinks. Don't offer it if you're going to have an attitude about adjusting the bill". It was just weird. They also didn't offer any bday dessert treat but we weren't super pressed bc we were so full. The meat was a bit overdone and all kind of tasted the same this visit. Didn't get to try the lamb chops and a few other meats, but still has a nice variety. Salad bar is top notch and consistent, although wish their black beans were plain due to all the meat. Drinks were ok--heavy pours but lower quality wine. The $29 "Wine Experience" package was worth it for my husband who likes variety of wines with his dinner depending on what he's eating. I'm sure I'll come again but it's been bumped a few notches on my Go To list.

What we ordered- We always start with the duck hummus and chicken liver, rich, flavorful, and pairs perfectly with their fluffy pita. The lamb neck shawarma is a non-negotiable, falls right off the bone, juicy, and comes with the perfect accompaniments. We also got the grilled dorade and oyster mushrooms, both are consistently excellent. This time we swapped our usual shrimp for the crudo and peach salad, and honestly, both were amazing. Still team shrimp overall, but it just goes to show you really can't go wrong with anything on this menu. Service is always attentive and the ambiance is upscale with lots of natural lights and greenery. Parking - There is valet parking and a pay to park lot across the street by Girl and the Goat. While there is street parking in the area, I've noticed a lot of smashed glass from break ins. (I've also had my car broken into before by the pottery studio ... they stole my pink picnic blanket)

Because of Bavel's outstanding reputation, we were excited to celebrate such a special occasion here. The food was excellent, and our server was attentive and professional. Unfortunately, the dining environment significantly detracted from what should have been a memorable evening. Our party of seven was seated at the chef's table directly adjacent to the open-flame kitchen on a day when temperatures were around 90 degrees. The heat at our table was overwhelming, especially for those seated with their backs to the kitchen. Several members of our party, including elderly family members, were extremely uncomfortable throughout much of the meal. Adding to that, the constant shouting of orders from the kitchen made it difficult for our family to have conversations during our daughter's engagement celebration. We understand that many guests enjoy sitting near an open kitchen, but on this particular evening the combination of the kitchen heat and what appeared to be inadequate air conditioning made the experience far less enjoyable than we expected. Even our son and his family, who have dined at Bavel many times, commented that this was not consistent with their previous experiences. Bavel's food deserves its reputation, but comfort is also an important part of a fine dining experience. Unfortunately, the excessive heat and noise overshadowed what should have been a joyful family celebration. I hope the restaurant addresses these issues so future guests can enjoy the exceptional meal in a more comfortable environment.

Service was AMAZING and for this reason alone I would absolutely return. They made us feel very welcomed especially given our food restrictions (I have some allergies while another person in our party is vegan), which was very impressive. All the staff there were friendly and helpful. We had tons of questions about booking a large reservation in the future which they were so sweet about answering. Ambiance was very chill! Lots of seating options, wasn't busy for a late lunch, and everything seems very organized too. This place honestly seems great for both small parties and bigger parties of people. Last but not least, the food! We didn't get to try the kbbq this time but I love that there are tons of options on the menu. We got several dishes like kimchi fried rice (my friend's), cold noodle, beef brisket hot soup, garlic fries. Everyone was in agreement that it was all delicious. Definitely coming back for the kbbq next time! PARKING is important to mention too. If you can find free street parking consider yourself lucky! There is a garage with the entrance next to it that says "PARKING" which they had us pay $20 with cash or Venmo. Parking guy said we had 2 hours to return with a receipt from the restaurant so they'd give us $10 cash back (essentially making parking $10 or $20 if you go over the limit). Inside the restaurant it does say $5 parking on the wall which we asked about but this only applies on Mondays to Fridays, and we came on a Saturday. I'll add a photo of this. I did consider removing a star for the whole parking situation but I'll keep it for now. Other than the parking being a pain (as is typical for the area), we loved it here.

I ordered the Blood In, Blood Out and my wife ordered the Hispanic! At the Disco. Both drinks were amazing. We also ordered an appetizer of their Smoked Hatch Chili Queso which was delicious in every conceivable way. Additionally, the hostess we first talked to and our waiter were both outstanding. A++ service here. We're definitely going to come back next time we're in the area.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!…read more When the employee lured us in, she said to go to the counter inside and wait for someone to seat us. There were several employees that saw us just standing there, but we still waited there for 5 mins before someone told the girl from outside to take us to our table. We were finally seated. Then guy who told the girl to seat us was just standing around d chit chatting with another employees for about 15 minutes before he even came to our table. He never even introduce himself. He just took our order. Another 20 mins came by before our food was served. OUR FOOD WAS ROOM TEMPERATURE. Short Rib was ok. The macaroni was stale and OLD! It was dry and not fresh! We asked for extra BBQ sauce and that didn't arrive for another 15 mins. We had to wave down another employee to try to get the sauce to us. I wouldn't recommend this place! Horrible service. Didn't even come around to see if we needed anything or if everything was good or not. We came here around 1:30pm on 3/16. The restroom was also out of paper towels and soap from the soda dispenser. Poor quality food! Glad I tried it, so I know to not come back again!
