Absolutely incredible experience at Spinasse. One of the rare occasions where I truly have no critique to give! I'll start off by saying that I RARELY give out a 5 star review. To me, a full 5 stars, means the restaurant goes above and beyond. Food, Ambience, and Service all have to be on point, and Spinasse has it all. You walk in and it's warm and welcoming. It's a fantastic mix of classic Italian decor mixed with a modern casual restaurant with large viewing windows of the kitchen. You're then met by extremely friendly and helpful staff. They've got answers to your questions, they're great at conversation, but not too in your business. Fantastic service. As I said, I have no critique to give, so I'll just try and describe what I tasted. We started with the ANTIPASTO MISTO DELLA CASA which is essentially small portions of all of their antipasta. This can rotate seasonally. Every single dish in this was amazing. We think the Capricciosa salad was our favorite out of the bunch, but everything was fantastic. We then ordered two half orders of Pasta, the TAJARIN CON BURRO E SALVIA and the TAJARIN AL RAGU. The TAJARIN CON BURRO E SALVIA is essentially pasta in an emulsified butter and sage sauce. I'm not gonna lie, I had low expectations for such a simple dish, but WOW. Sage can be VERY overpowering, but not in this dish. You taste the sage, but as a compliment not as an overpowering flavor. The ragu was also fantastic. The Tajrain by the way - perfectly al dente. It's such a thin pasta that it could easily be overcooked, but they nailed it. Then the Pan-roasted king salmon with sauteed chanterelles, crimini brodo and thyme oil... omg... Perfect pairing. Crispy skin, tender king salmon, and those mushrooms... one of my favorite dishes I've had ever. Not too salty, mushrooms were perfectly - al dente? not too chewy, but not too mushy. Perfect. Dessert was also seasonal - a sort of cake with cream, wafers, chocolate and hazelnuts on top. Phenomenal. If you're visiting SEA, or live here, please do yourself a favor and add this to your list!
Ordered: - Crespelle - Tajarin con burro e salvia - butter and sage pasta. yummy. - Cavatelli al ragu di costolette - Cavatelli shape works really well with the ragu sauce. - Risotto di mais - Corn and tomato combo was good. Alternating it with the Butter/sage pasta was really nice. It was a tad too sweet near the end when we ran out of butter sage to alternate with. I don't think I would be able to eat this on its own, would get flavor fatigue. - Maiale brasato al latte - Zucchini estive con salsa agliata - Pomodori - hierloom tomatoes were huge and so yummy. Would recommend getting a reservation. Parking garage next door that wasn't too expensive.
I will forever dream of this place for the rest of my life. Make the reservation. A girlfriend and I tried to book 2 weeks out and it was fully booked. A couple hours later, I checked again and there was 1 cancellation. I am SO glad we had the opportunity to try this place. It's small, so would be difficult for large parties. Our server was wonderful and very knowledgeable. The food was INCREDIBLE. Like close your eyes, and feel all the emotions while you're eating incredible. There was not a single dish I didn't enjoy. I would love to return and try the option where you get to try every antipasto, primo, and second on the menu for $122/person. Can't wait to come back to Seattle just for this!
Legendary reviews had me coming in with pretty high expectations. The ambiance is lovely. Low lighting, walls lined with wine bottles, and an intimate atmosphere that feels cozy without being cramped. Even though the restaurant wasn't particularly busy during our visit, our server was extremely quiet and difficult to hear, which made communication a bit challenging. One nice touch was the complimentary bread service, which came with a generous amount of butter. We started with the artichokes from the seasonal menu. I was expecting them to be served warm or roasted, but they arrived cold, which was admittedly a misunderstanding on my part. The accompanying sauce was excellent though and definitely saved the dish for me. We also ordered the tajarin al ragù, one of the restaurant's signature dishes. Unfortunately, this was where my expectations and experience diverged. The pasta felt under-seasoned to me, and the noodles seemed overcooked. Rather than the silky texture I was hoping for, I found myself eating what felt like clumps of dough. It was a dish I really wanted to love given its reputation, but it just didn't click for me. We weren't looking for a heavy dinner, so we only ordered a couple of items. It's entirely possible we came on an off night or simply didn't choose the restaurant's strongest dishes. I'd be open to giving Cascina Spinasse another try in the future, but this visit left me feeling a bit underwhelmed compared to the hype.
Very very good restaurant for pasta and Italian food lovers. Unique appetizers all were great. Pasta was good and fresh, but only 2 options, which we found very basic. Main meals were also not very unique but excellent. Service was amazing and not much wait for your food. We had the testing menu where you try everything on the menus except 2 dishes which is weird why did they exclude these in particular. I might go back if reservation was not so ridiculous long time..
Went there once and we settled for bar seating. Ambiance was chill, service was fast. Food was good too. Mostly liked the pasta. Was able to find street parking easily that evening.
We had our final dinner in Seattle at Spinasse and twas a wonderful time. First off, Spinasse gives Capitol Hill from the moment you enter. It's minimally furnished with just the right amount of ambient lighting. Secondly, it's Italian, but Piedmontese Italian if that means anything to you. We started with crespelle ($29) which is an Italian crepe. The version we ordered was stuffed with prosciutto and parmigiana fonduta with arugula salad. The crepe was light and airy and paired perfectly with the salty prosciutto and parm. Perfect starter. Honestly, all the pastas we ordered were absolute fire. Of the three, I liked the Tajarin Al ragù ($20/$34) the most. It's a fine hand-cut egg yolk pasta with pork and beef ragù. The pasta is so finely cut; it's delicate. What I liked best was the way the ragù sauce enveloped itself into the folds of the pasta. Each bite was cohesive and really intentional. The risotto was also quite good as well - that night, it was the risotto ai gamberi ($21/$35) which highlight spot prawns. The spot prawns were sweet and the Calabrian chili was a really nice complement to the sweet and creamy. Delish. I'm sure the risotto is great in any season. I must say - the best thing about the menu is the fact that you can order a smaller portion of any of the pasta dishes as to not have to fully commit to one. This is a superb way to eat. Live actually. Include Spinasse on any itinerary if you can.
O. M. G! Hands down, the best meal we had during our Seattle trip. Hallelujah! The insalata was so good eaten on top of their bread. The Cipollini Ripieni NEEDS to be a year-round dish! I have been daydreaming about those savory little onion-wrapped meatballs since we left Seattle. Mouthwateringly delicious! The pasta was so fresh--both were delicious--but I think I preferred the simple, yet masterful, butter and sage dish best. If I could give them 10 stars, I would.
Very beautiful and intimate restaurant! The service is amazing - we had questions about the wine menu and they had brought out samples of wines they recommended to try! All the dishes we had were really delicious. Their butter noodles (tajarin con burro e salvia) are amazing texture wise! This is what our server had recommended to us. Highly recommend getting the desserts as well! The semifriedo and the tart were both delicious! Will definitely be back to try everything else!
It's been a while since my last visit many years ago, same amazing experience. We were seated promptly and the service was outstanding throughout the dinner. We got the tajarin burro e salvia and tajarin al ragù, both exceptional, really really good. Then my wife got the capesante cotte nel burro, which she liked, and I got the maiale brasato al latte, which was absolutely fabulous, melt in your mouth tender meat. I loved it. We finished with a panna cotta and a chocolate bonet, both very good. What an amazing dinner at Cascina Spinasse, highly recommended!
Update to my last review 14 years ago... Yes, still fantastic in all the ways I described years ago. Even the prices seem to not be out of sight and the atmosphere and food are fantastic. That said, I don't like setting in the area by the door and always request to be seated in the original restrauant space to the left of the entrance for a more subdued and romantic atmosphere. Tempted to eat everything on the menu for the $120/person, but we ate just about everything we liked and was absolutely stuffed. For the first time patrons you must eat a half portion of the Tajarin Con Burro E Salvia and the Tajarin Al Ragu. As in "Top Gun" don't think just do. The waiter, Brent picked out a wine and it was fantastic as I posted a photo for that bottle of Barbra D'Asti DOCG Superiore Ca'DiPian 2023. Parking just beside the resturant for $4/hr. They reserve the counter for walk-ins, but I would make a reservation and request to be seated in the original resturant space away from the front door reception area for more romantic atmosphere.
Celebrated a birthday here last night. We ordered the tasting menu for $120/person and was a great deal. So much delicious food and you don't leave feeling hungry. You actually leave feeling extremely stuffed! I loved every item we were served (that I could eat at least. I was too full to finish everything). My favorite was the stuffed onions, which went very well with the bread, as well as the ragu pasta. The fried chicken also had such a delicious, crispy but delicate skin. Service was similarly great. Eric was great at explaining things and giving tips for the meal. No complaints. As for ambiance, it was still decorated for Christmas with wreaths and pine garlands. I liked how cozy and romantic the place felt. No big lights here, only candles and small yellow bulbs. It is a pretty small space though so tables are pretty close together. It was very easy to eavesdrop on others so would not recommend hosting a very private convo here. I am giving a 4/5 stars though because VERY soon after eating I got an upper stomachache and diarrhea that I do not suspect is from eating too much. I'm not sure how this happened as I don't think anything was raw or undercooked. I have a good impression of the place still (the food and service was great) but it has been a bummer dealing with this for the past day.
Let me start by saying that this meal for both myself and my husband was one of the best we have ever had. The interior of the restaurant is cozy and simplistic, not too pretentious, and definitely allows you to settle in and enjoy without feeling stiff. First of all, our server (I think his name was Alfredo but my deepest apologies if I am mistaken) was super sweet and attentive. The front of house manager also brought us an amouse bouche at the beginning of our meal and was also super kind and clearly takes pride in his work. He even brought us another one because my husband loved it so much! Our server recommended a wine that was perfect for my palate and paired well with the meal we ordered and my husband's cocktail was balanced and delicious even for a non bourbon drinker like me. We ordered the cabbage appetizer, which was like a more exciting and fresher take on a caesar salad, and was quite good. Then, we had the special risotto with lamb sausage. I would have absolutely done unspeakable things for more of that risotto. It was indescribable. We also ordered the halibut and polenta, and the fish was cooked to the perfect temp and well seasoned. Neither of us typically lean toward polenta as a menu option but if all polenta tasted like this that might change! The fat from the guanciale made it especially velvety and that was an excellent pairing with the fish. Overall, we will be back expeditiously, and hope to encounter the same lovely team!!

Really good food and better than average service. Fresh pasta was *chefs kiss* textures were amazing. Most of of the dishes I ordered were very savory. I forgot what I had for dessert but it hit the spot in terms of flavor and texture. read more

We made reservations right at opening and was graciously let in early to avoid standing in the cold outside. The service here was great and our servers were attentive to us. We started with the Cipollini: beef and pork stuffed roasted cipollini with caramelized onion brodo and toasted pinenuts. This was done well and there was good flavors with this. For the primi, we got the Tajarin con Burro e Salvia (fine hand-cut egg yolk pasta with cultured butter and sage) and Tajarin al Ragù (Fine hand-cut egg yolk pasta with pork and beef ragù). Unfortunately, both pastas were VERY VERY salty. I normally don't mind my food being on the saltier side, but this was to the point where I had to get a few refills of water to finish my portion. Ideally we would've sent it back but we were on a schedule and didn't know how long it would take to have it remade. For our secondi, we went with the Capunet (braised beef, pork and vegetables, wrapped in chard with caramelized honey sauce), which was just okay. I don't think this dish was necessarily, but we initially ordered it to have some protein with our meal. Overall, I think I'm willing to give Spinasse another chance if I'm in the area again. The dishes had good flavor but I just couldn't handle how salty it was this time. read more
Dinner was fantastic in a dimly lit romantic setting. Stars of the evening were the cipollini and the agnolotti di coniglio, as well as the service - our waiter was so fantastic, helpful, and friendly. There was not a single dish that didn't impress, and everything was delightful. My only wish is that they get more comfortable chairs, haha, but I'd put up with it for the food. read more

Forgot how bomb this place is and so happy to see it survived the pandemic! The outdoor seating area has been expanded and jt is so adorable with the perfect ambiance for a great evening out. Stopped in for snacks and drinks - while we ordered the ragu version of tajarin, the sage version is excellent as well. You really can't go wrong with deliciously thin pasta that is well sauced! Loved the beet salad - I could have done with so much more of the tuna topping but everything in balanced moderation. What are you waiting for? Stop in for some delicious Italian food and drinks! read more

Upon visiting Seattle my wife suggested that we try this place. It was listed somewhere as a top five Italian restaurant in the US. However, after eating there I would like to amend that to top 3. Wow. Amazing food. We started with an antipasto sampler and we're fighting over the last crumbs of their homemade bread sticks by the time our main course arrived. Yes, breadsticks so good it's worth fighting your nephew and wife over friggin crumbs. For our main course I had the king salmon which was simply stunning, as it came with a chickpea blend that somehow worked. My wife had a simple pasta with a butter sauce that was so good we licked the plate (I kid, well, kind of). My nephew had the braised pork which was so tender no knife was needed, cooked to perfection and oh so tasty. Next time we're within a 100 miles of seattle we will be going here. read more

WOW. This restaurant was beyond our expectations...truly authentic Italian cuisine. Highly recommend the bar seating so you can have a view of the kitchen as they make fresh pasta right in front of you. Heather our sever was fantastic and made awesome menu/wine suggestions. Took an uber pool here - I suggest you do the same. Or walk? Seattle really isn't that stretched out the more you think about it. Entrance is such a tease - what's behind those lovely white curtains? A magical place. Who knew that somewhere so cozy could exist on these cold rainy streets? There is one dining area (smaller) directly where you enter, then another (larger) adjacent to the left. The kitchen is visible through a glass windowpane where you can watch the pasta being made fresh and all the other happenings of the making of your food. They're very friendly and understanding here. The moment you sit they ask you about any allergies or dietary restrictions. They're very clean - they clean every time they take away a plate. If you sit at the 'bar' - really it's just a nice view of the kitchen - they don't have hooks underneath the bar but they encourage you to hang coats on your seat or on their coat hanger hooks to the side. Complimentary Crostinis - Rabbit Liver Pate Now I've never had pate so perhaps I'm just not cultured enough. But have you ever drank too much, then felt sick and thrown up? That after taste of thrown up alcohol is what this tasted like. I'm not trying to exaggerate or be overly rude, it's just exactly what this taste reminded me of. - Butter and Anchovy A lot of pepper. And a LOT of salt - tastes like extra salty fried fish. So, SO salty. Possibly too salty. But significantly better than the liver pate. Tajarin con Burro e Salvia Basically a very thinly sliced tagliatelle with butter and sage. This is a common combination but the first time I'd tried it. The sage didn't seem to mesh very well to me and the butter seemed almost like an aftertaste. The pasta however was undoubtedly fresh (not just because I'd seen them make it) but because it was so soft and rich. So soft it seemed like it should fall apart in your mouth but somehow still retained texture. Carote Arrotiste Huge, huge chunks of carrot. I wouldn't recommend getting this for one person because it could be a whole meal in and of itself. They were perfectly cooked but that's where the positives ended. Sweet then sour then various herb flavors - didn't seem like any of it meshed well together. The sour came through very, very strong. read more

GET THE BUTTER SAGE PASTA!!!! You won't regret it!! We got 3 half size pasta/ risottos and the appetizer sampler. The portions are small but they were enough to make two people pretty full as the pastas are heavy/ dense. Appetizer sampler was perfect way to try out 4 of the appetizers in smaller portions and the hand cut pasta was everything!! Cant wait to come back to try other items on their menu and also eat the butter sage pasta again read more
The only downside of this location is that it takes meticulous planning and a reservation a few weeks in advance if you want a specific date and a dinner time slot earlier than 8-9 pm. Otherwise, it was lovely to be back here. The flavors in the appetizer (kohlrabi salad marinated with anchovy vinaigrette, parmigiano and capers) were subtle and pleasant. The bread was absolutely delicious, although the breadsticks were a tad too dry, which led to a philosophical debate around why pasta and breadsticks always break in more than 1 spot. As for the main... as much as I wanted to be adventurous in my choice, the tajarin is just too darn good to be ignored. And I was glad I went with it - it is a proven recipe for pasta-induced happiness. My dessert of semifredo was expansive (one for the table to share would have easily sufficed) but I especially enjoyed the sesame cookies. As for the drinks, the Paper Plane cocktail was light and airy - just as the name suggests. I went with the server's recommendation and was not disappointed. Service was very attentive and contributed to the enjoyable evening. It was also fun to discover this place is connected at the hip to the neighboring Artusi. Will explore that next. read more

Spinasse is my favorite restaurant in Seattle! It's phenomenal every time I've visited. I love doing the tasting menu because you get to try every dish on the menu, served family style. I definitely recommend doing the wine pairing with it! Everything I've tried there is delicious, but my favorite dishes are the Tajarin (both of them) and the Cipollini when they have it. read more

Absolutely delicious. I haven't had pasta like this in a very long time. I had the tajarin and it had the more homemade soft texture that I prefer. Lately, many restaurants are doing a more al dente texture, which is still good but the homemade perfectly soft is what I prefer and what Spinasse had. I would highly recommend a visit. This is more or less a classic upscale trattoria. When my girlfriend and I went, we got the tasting menu. For $125 pp, we got to sample every dish on the menu, and every dish was delicious. We especially loved the anitpasto platter with the array of cured meats, and the tajarin with butter and cheese. If you go, stick to the appetizers and pastas. While the entrees were good, they seemed like a waste of space and money when the pastas and antipasti are so good. While this restaurant is delicious, and one of the best in Seattle, it's not doing anything too far outside the box. The rabbit agnoloti is delicious, but nothing is new or inventive about it. The risotto is lovely, but it's risotto. This is not to disparage the restaurant. I cannot express enough how much I loved this meal. Finally, a huge part of the experience for us was our lovely waiter. Before the meal, he explained the background of the food, as well as giving us a rundown of every dish. He was well versed in the food and clearly knew what he was talking about. Spinasse is the best Italian food in the city. read more

It has a warm, cozy, Pacific Northwest vibe and the service is excellent. Here is how it scored: Tajarin al ragu: Fine hand cut egg pasta with pork and beef ragu. $16.00/$28.00. This is one of their signature dishes and it is fabulous. The hand cut fresh pasta is so delicate and unique. Loved the whimsical plating. 4.5/5 Polpette di coniglio: Pan-roasted rabbit meatballs with sauteed brussels sprouts and soft polenta. $32 If you get only one dish, this is the one to order. Honestly, it's the best rabbit I have ever eaten. So tender and succulent. It's another one of their signature dishes. 5/5 Trota: Pan-seared trout with marcona almonds, castelvetrano olives and Calabrian chilies with caramelized shallot sauce. $29 I catch and cook a lot of trout and needed some new ways to cook it. This dish is off the hook with regard to creativity. I loved skin side up butterfly presentation. Could have used a little more almonds and olives. Thanks for the inspiration. 4.5/5 Risotto ai gamberi: Wild Alaskan spot prawn risotto with chives. $18/$29 I didn't get a picture of this dish because by the time it got passed to me, there was only 1 tablespoon left. LOL Yeah, it was that good. Perfectly cooked risotto with chopped, fresh, sweet spot shrimp and fresh herbs. It was to die for. Another inspirational dish. 5/5 This is a great Italian restaurant and as good as it gets in the Pacific Northwest. I work on new recipes every day. I dine at restaurants often but don't find dishes which inspire me very often. This place had several inspiring dishes. Check it out. read more

Delicious Piedmontese food, especially the rabbit agnolotti! I was skeptical because typically I don't like rabbit. The tajarin pasta was very delicate and I especially like the one with the butter and sage. We also had the mixed plate of starters. The salad Russo was my favorite. I thought for sure I'd like the crab salad best. It was nice they offer half portions too. Good options for vegetarians read more

Celebrated my birthday here with my boyfriend. Spinasse always has a special place in my heart. We made the reservation online a week ago and we were given the choice to sit outside or inside. I made him choose the outdoor seatings just because I didn't feel comfortable to be inside for an extended period of time. OH DEAR, it was a bad decision. It was cold (thank you for not raining ) and we didn't get to sit inside the canopy. We ordered the crespelle con taleggio e funghi (mushroom and cheese crepe) to start. This was a standout, with the mushroom adding a welcome addition of texture to the warm goodness of the creamy cheese. It was delicious. 100% on presentation and 100% on flavors. For primi, we ordered tajarin con burro e salvia (hand cut egg pasta with butter and sage) and risotto ai funghi matsutaki (mushroom risotto). Oh Tajarin! Tajarin!! So thin, so fine, so delicate yet so rich in taste. With the cheese on top, it accentuates the texture of the pasta. Definitely the answer to my pasta craving. My bf enjoyed his mushroom risotto from his very first bite to the very last. He cleaned the plate. They chopped the mushrooms to small equal pieces yet every bite is an explosion of mushroom flavors. With the crispy garlic slices garnished on top, it not only added texture to the dish but it brought out the sweetness of the mushrooms. GOOD JOB. *All pastas are handmade in house* think how much work they put in for each dish. A LOT. My husband and I went here for our one year anniversary and it was incredible!!! We've never been to Seattle and this place had high reviews - it did not disappoint. The service was so good. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the different courses and were able to share them. They bring them out one by one which was nice. The Tajarin con burro e salvia was probably one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. I felt like I was in a little slice of Italy being in this restaurant and I'd recommend anyone thinking about checking this place out to do it! The whole meal is an experience. read more

They take walk-ins at the dining counter and at a couple of tables, but seating is mostly reserved.
My family will be visiting Seattle and I've been wanting to try their tajarin for ages! I've read young kids wouldn't do well in this restaurant as it's more romantic/upscale. Is there truly no option of ordering the dish to go? (Silly ?, sorry!)
Good news! They now have takeout. Their tajarin you must make at home to preserve the quality, but it's super easy and fast.

I booked about 4-weeks in advance but space was limited for prime time slots (7:30 PM). Other much later time slots were available.

Didn't see tajarin on the menu, showed the picture on yelp to the waiter too and still got a no, so it's no longer served?
It's a signature dish at the restaurant. I sincerely doubt it was removed from the menu.
