We went to continue our exploration of our new home state of Georgia, by visiting the Wormsloe State Historic Site. A beautiful place, with a very knowledgeable tour guide. Afterwards we googled restaurants in the area and picked Castaways. This place was wonderful, I had the fish sandwich, very fresh and delicious. My side of Mac and Cheese was a whole bowl, not some little dish. My wife had the lobster sandwich and a side of the fries(sidewinder?) so much she couldn't eat it all, good for me . The people were very friendly and made you feel like an old friend. My one and only complaint was that the beer could have been colder. read more

We were looking for a place that had options besides fried fish. Although this is the South and there were plenty of fried options, they also had some other choices. I had an Ahi Tuna salad with firecracker dressing on the side. The tuna was tasty and the greens were fresh. The outdoor seating was a nice choice on a pleasant 75 degree sunny day. The service was ok as the waitresses switched on our table half way through the experience. It took a long time to get the bill but the food was prompt. We were enjoying the weather and a slow afternoon in the sun so the delay was no problem for us. Would like to return here and explore the menu for some other options. read more

This was our "go to" place. Called today for my party of 7 at 5:30 pm and was told they don't take "same day" reservations. In fact we were sitting outside near the hostess stand a few weeks ago when a customer came and made a reservation for a large party 2 hours in advance. There are lots of restaurants in Sandfly and we'll go to one that knows how to accommodate guests. I guess I missed when Castaways got it's Michelin star. Restaurants are still a service industry and service here, today, had a big miss. read more

The decor isn't really my cup of tea but the food is good. Unless you are sitting on a stool at the outside bar, there isn't much ambience. Great burger, the special of the day (trout) was fresh and flavorful plus they give you large portions- enough to make one meal into two. read more

What a great little place! Directed here by a local, we were unsure but trusting. While they DO NOT have crab legs, the scallops were amazing and the tuna tower unmatched. Coupled with the quaint ambiance both inside and out, the staff was especially accommodating and pleasant. Drinks were mixed to perfection and it was a great, mid-day refreshment. We ate dinner there a couple of weeks ago while we were staying at Skidaway Island State Park. What a treat that was. The extensive painted wall mural sets the tone that you are eating in a place where you've never been before. I ordered the curried salmon and it was excellent. It probably is the most creative dish that I've ever eaten. There were so many different flavors exposed. The creativity in your restaurant was thrilling. The drinks were awesome also. Manager/Owner was rude like he didn't see the hair in my food . Didn't even offer to take anything of I mean I was half way done and saw the hair. My daughter also found a mosquito in her tea. Will never ever go here in life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And never did the police escort me out I escorted myself out thank you I was done with this nasty ass hairy food.. and yes we called the police for clarity of your nasty ass lemon pasta !!! Your ignorant and like I said you won't have no good luck!! You also lied to the police saying that you offered my daughter another dish and you clearly didn't . I still have the live video sir! Chef / manager whatever you are. For the record my daughter ordered that dish and didn't like it and she was willing to get something else in the place of it that's all we wanted . Your never said that was my hair when I was in the there, you tried to act like you didn't see it being ignorant. Run the cameras back and look to see if I put hair in it. I would never do that. So first of all, watch out for the directions because when we followed the directions on yelp it sent us to another location. Google the location to be sure. I thought this place was so cute as I was walking up to the restaurant. The umbrellas and painting and decore, it was all very nice. Upon entering the place no one really greeted us so I figured it was a self seating, so we sat at the bar first. The staff didn't say much to us till like 5 minutes later with us looking around twiddling our thumbs she asked "did you guys figure out what you wanted to drink yet?". Granted we could have just ordered a soda, but no one even gave us the drink menus or menu at that. So I asked for the drink menu and she kinda grabbed and left all 5 sheets in a pile in front of me. I didn't want to sit there anymore so I asked to move outside, it was nice outside I figured it would change my experience. Thankfully she said it was fine and I was able to watch the sunset while I waited on the food which was not long. I had the infamous crab soup which was good. Then the entre came out, it was so awkward. So it my dish came out in a styled bowl but she put the high end facing me, then as I was turning it around she asked me if I needed a spoon, I was about to say no when she asked if I wanted to take the soup spoon. Ok so here's another thing I felt awkward about, after I had the soup I used a napkin to wipe the table Because something spilled and i crumpled it up and put it in the soup bowl with the spoon already in it. To me if I throw my dirty napkin in it I'm not going to eat from it again or touch the food on that plate anymore. I don't know if I'm just being funny about it or what but I still don't know how I feel about it. But she did bring out another spoon for me because I asked so... anyways. The food looked AMAZING!!! The crunchy flounder was so crisp and flavorful! It had a mango dressing which was delicious too!!! The lobster and scallop carbonara was ok, it didn't wow me (it was also kind of runny). I really don't know if it was the food, experience, staff, or what but I was ready to go. So we went inside to pay and left. I wouldn't mind trying this place again for the flounder. It really has a nice atmosphere and look to it, pretty clean. But unfortunately today was a miss for me, maybe another day. read more

Ok, we received a $100 gift certificate for Christmas. We used it yesterday. Everything looked and sounded good on the menu. As we're waiting, we saw a lady with a really nice piece of key lime pie. We ordered the filet with scallops and garlic mashed potatoes. The filet was perfect but it came with only 1 scallop on top? We ordered the tuna tower it was lovely but half of it was cucumber, once you picked all of those out, wasn't much left. But we did ask for the rest of it to go, we asked for a couple of the crispy wonton, we were charged $2 for two wontons? We ordered that beautiful key lime pie to go..we looked in the bag to see it, there was maybe 2 bites each on one slither of pie. We said the lady was eating one and it looked 1/4 of the pie?? We were looking for a new place to go, but it's not gonna be there, SMH. read more

Four of us ate lunch there on Monday. Two of the women (technologically challenged) ordered the Tuna Tower (which they had before). And later that afternoon both came down with a severe case of food poisoning. One of the women called the restaurant the next day and spoke with a waiter who said he would give the message to the manager who would call back. So my wife and I decided to grab some take out for dinner last night and decided on Castaways. Since neither of us had ever eaten their food we went with them. So the online restaurant menu displayed many dishes which all were very tempting. After several minutes we decided on two salads, both with shrimp. Hers was firecracker and mine was blacken. Both were advertised as priced at $14 each. Now here is where It gets you. I called in the order and the lady said it would be ready in 20 minutes, price would be $35. After hanging up I began to do some calculations, and could not come up with $35. At the restaurant I paid the bill and asked for a take out menu for future orders and also to see if prices were different than online. The lady replied no. After reading my bill , the charges were $2 more on each item, plus an additional $0.50 each for Go, which I guess means go container. So moral of the story is when ordering food from a restaurant online menu, you may want to ask the person if the price is different than what the menu states. Today I will call and speak with management in regards to my order and pass on my findings. Eat well. read more

Came here for lunch with my husband and we had the calamari for an appetizer and it was the best we'd ever had. The chefs use of ingredients and sauces are phenomenal on all his dishes. I had the blackened grouper and it was so beautiful! Large portion with these colorful little red and yellow peppers. I wish I had taken a photo of the plate. It was cooked so perfectly! I could go on and on about that dish. My husband had the blackened fish tacos and again, large portion and cooked perfectly!! The flavor on those were melt-in-your mouth good! You won't be disappointed! Thier chef is AMAZING!!! read more

First meal while visiting Savannah, and it was awesome. The room was packed when we arrived, but the service was quick. We ordered specials, and the plating and taste was on point. From the dishes being served at other tables, their menu items looked amazing, and people were enjoying their choices. I can honestly say the Grouper Imperial is one of my favorite dishes of ALL TIME....yes its that good. At first glance you think that it is just a strip mall food joint but it is so much more. The seafood here is some of the freshest and best tasting I have ever had. The tuna tower was so delicious and amazing. The wait staff were also all super helpful with suggestions and any time I go back to Savannah I will have to come and get that Grouper Imperial. read more

Tuna Tower to start...I'm not a fan of raw tuna, but my hubby is and he eats the tuna and I eat the tower [avocado, won ton, corn, and I don't know what else]. Shrimp Boat tacos are my favorite. The place was a little hard to find (look for the sign where the buildings break beside the Italian restaurant), but I'm glad we finally did! We stopped here for a quick lunch on the way to Wormsloe Plantation. I really enjoyed the buffalo shrimp salad (their buffalo sauce is a little sweeter than I am accustomed to, but it was good!). First time patron (1/17/21) while in town for a visit. A friend indicated the place had good reviews and Yelp shows 4.5. High expectations were dashed with the food. Service was prompt, professional, polite. Restaurant was clean. The food though, was very lacking. My scallops and crab carbonara was very dry, couldn't taste or see any crab. The three scallops were cooked well and tasted good. But $23 fir three good scallops and terrible pasta Alfredo (what it looked and tasted like) was a disappointment. My wife's salmon was very heavily salted and the pasta it came with was equally dry and tough to eat. The she crab soup, which my grandson normally loves, was very dreary looking and very gelatinous. He stopped after the first spoon and I tried and found it equally distasteful. Might have been an off night and not sure I'd return next time I'm in town. Was really looking for top-notch food. I won't slam it as things could have been worse and maybe it was just an off night. read more

The grouper imperial is consistently delicious and well presented. The tuna tower appetizer is very creatively designed and is a good appetizer for 2 or a small meal. There are other very good fish dishes as well as specials. The hamburger is also outstanding. Very good food at a reasonable price read more

Overall food and experience was good. They have made a few changes to some of the food items. Oysters Rockefeller was terrible, which is sad because it used to be very good there. Way too much breading and it has a cream cheese taste and texture to it, nothing like a good oyster Rockefeller should be. Rest of the food was OK. read more

If you want any scotch other than Dewars, don't go to this place. Even if the clientele is not a scotch drinking group, to not have a bottle of Chivas Regal for those of us that have a higher scotch calling, it's inexcusable. The scotch will not deteriorate and at the minimum, you have a happy customer. A 750 ml bottle will cost $46. An inexpensive investment to make a customer happy. A single malt 12 year old scotch by Glenlivet would cost$49.00. I ordered a martini, medium dirty, and was told they were running low on the olive juice. I was informed by the bartender that they had added vinegar to the olive juice in order to stretch the supply. A lame place, to say the least. read more

We have eaten at Castaways several times and have always had excellent meals. This was no exception. Crispy scored flounder was as tasty as ever and is a favorite. One of our foursome had blackened redfish and another had the seared tuna Tybee, and all of us were very happy with our meals. The chef here definitely knows his/her stuff. On the other hand, Castaways should examine their business practices and decide whether they are an upscale restaurant or a dive bar. We were there on a Sunday night. While their website told us that they are open all day Sunday and gives a phone number, I called repeatedly during the day and never got an answer. We took a chance,they were open and with few diners. When we were seated there was a group of loud guys, maybe drunks, at the bar watching a football game, cheering, shouting to each other, etc. We're not prudes, but that behavior and a nice meal simply don't go together. It could be that the owner or manager doesn't work on Sundays and allows the inmates to run the jail. If so, they should examine things. read more
