I had a bad case of long fingernails and toenails I can cut my own fingernails but the toenails I have trouble with so I decided to go to the Castro Nail Salon. I was running about 15 minutes late but I kept in contact with the business and they adjusted their schedule to fit my schedule very nice of them. As soon as I arrived I was asked to sit in a chair my feet were put in a wet bath my fingers were too and then one woman started working on my fingernails and well that was going on another woman took care of my toenails I was out of that shop within 30 minutes! My toenails have never looked this good! I definitely recommend this shop! read more

I like this nail salon and like the ladies and go there frequently for my pedicure. I've left other reviews, but I'm leaving this review because I just walked out and I'm a little ticked off. I'm a really good customer. I schedule my appointments. I arrive 10 minutes early for my pedicure appointment and they took too many people before I got there and told me two guests arrived late and they took them so they weren't gonna be able to do my appointment at my scheduled time and then asked me to reschedule later in the day. I can't because I have other things scheduled today. At some point salons have to prioritize their best customers and for people that arrive late they just have to be told they have to reschedule. I hope those people tipped them well. read more

So consistency in service and quality is very important to me. Castro Nail (Susan!) has hit the mark for me for years and years! I lived in the Castro for 14 years and moved to San Mateo 4 years ago. I still make the trip up to the salon for my mani, pedis and waxing every time. Susan is the only person that has been able to get my waxing just right every time! I was in the salon today for a mani and brow wax and once again Susan delivered. she is my go to person always. Truly a master in what she does. I came here for my birthday, walkin-in with no waiting on a Sunday, and while not overly friendly or chatty (which I don't mind when they stock the current US weekly) they did a pretty decent job. Granted, in North Beach I grew accustomed to a nail place where everyone knew me and chatted me up and where they did an amazing long-lasting job for around $20. In the Castro, the prices go up to about $30. Also, a mani just will not last as long (these are the places where they paint the top of the nail and not the side edges, maybe it's a style choice but I like the WHOLE thing painted). I added a star for Mimosas on Sundays and for how they shut the door when I said it was chilly, and turned my nail dryers to the warm setting, I like people who are receptive. Good OPI colors, cute atmosphere (right next to the castro theater), and decent prices (I paid $37 for a mani/pedi and a paraffin hand dip). Minus one star for forgetting to tell my manicurist that I asked for paraffin so I got the dip AFTER my nails were done, causing the polish to bubble. Doing better than All About You (one of my castro favs) for longer lasting polish though! Also, to speak to some of the "unsanitary" claims, They had an autoclave machine sitting right there on the counter and they were using it with each instrument I saw, so I'm not too worried about the hygiene there. read more

Best place in the Castro to get your nails done (I've tried the competition and can vouch for that haha). It's a small place with just a few pedicure stations and nail stations but it's a high quality experience from beginning to end. They have a good selection of nail colors and will offer you a drink - tea, water, wine. The owner and employees are all so friendly and accommodating and have an eye for detail for the shaping and painting. Reasonable prices as well, and you can purchase gift cards too. Highly recommend! read more

Such a lovely little spot in the Castro. All the ladies are so happy to be there, and have a lot of fun with their customers. Very personable and will always remember you! Love these ladies! Always friendly, great service, and they cut my nails SHORT how I like. I usually see Phong, Nicole, or Susan but all the women here are great. The owner is a nice guy too. My one gripe is I wish a Mani Pedi without nail polish was less expensive since it's less work but happy to support this business. They also do waxing services as well! read more

Okkkkkkk...Always had a good experience here until three weeks ago! Never been rushed out of a pedi chair so fast my eyebrows fell off! At 1120am the nail technician said we are available to see you...Now when 1127am hit two people came in for appointments and I have never ever seen someone finish up so fast!!!! 35.00 dollars later???? 8 minute pedi????Not acceptable....... Worst pedi ever.... Buyers Beware!! Obviously their tip was better than mine...She had her eyes on the prize...Never again!!! read more

I work nearby, so it is convenient to get a lunch time mani. It's a small salon, so it's best to stop by during off peak hours/days. There's a wall of OPI polishes, they carry Essie and a few other brands as well. I wish the OPI section was better organized by shades so I could find the nude shades I like. I have been going to Castro Nail Salon every three weeks or so, for almost 8 years now. I rely on reviews, and experiences of others, but have not written one for this business yet, so, here goes: In my experience, the staff has been nothing but absolutely professional in talking to customers, making appointments and providing service. I have never been asked for a tip (of course I do because it is customary and also too appreciate their work). The staff is also in a happy mood and with upbeat music playing in the background. I settled on this Salon after going to several others in the Castro area and continue to go here every 3 weeks although I moved out of San Francisco and live in the peninsula (4 years now!). A shoutout to Susan for being an absolute delight and such a pleasant person to work with! I highly recommend checking this place out! read more

Cute nail salon in the Castro, surrounded by tons of restaurants, cafes, and shops. A mani pedi was $40, which is reasonable for SF. The ladies were attentive, efficient, and super sweet! The salon had a solid selection of colors (both regular and gel). Hanna did my pedicure, and she took her time with the massage and made sure that my toes were completely dry before leaving (and even helped me wrap them because I was in a rush). The lady who helped with my manicure was also really attentive to detail and sweet. I'll be back if I'm in the neighborhood for sure! read more

I had a great first experience here today. I wanted a manicure because I have a job interview tomorrow night. I know, gay, right? No, wait, GQ says its okay. So it must be. But anyway... Went for the mani/pedi because it was only $25, and while I don't have a particular foot fetish going on, and no desire for colored nails, I also don't want to be one of those guys with the heinous looking feet... so thought some preventative maintenance couldn't be a bad idea. They were respectful, very nice. No pain. No rush. It was just what the doctor ordered (It was a stressful morning). I "missed" the $25 special by almost an hour, but when I expressed disappointment they honored that price anyway, which was very cool of them. I'll be back, and maybe bring friends next time :-) read more

They are pinchy pully and talk A LOT- not exactly a quiet 'spa like' experience. When they nip people (including me) they have these dopey excuses why it is the customers fault ?? and it has happened every time I have visited (they nip ppl with the cuticle nippers) My gels literally peeled day 1 and 3. So never again - too bad bc it is right by my hair place. read more

Self-care is so important!! I love getting my feet done here early in the morning when they open before the Castro gets going. The vibe is super chill, all the nail tech ladies are friendly and very competent. Easy to book ahead with the friendly gentleman who does reception. I've tried this place a few times. Granted I usually just go for a basic pedicure and I'm not getting fancy things on my nails. But for a basic pedicure this place is great. They have given me appointments on short notice and have always been super friendly. The prices are definitely reasonable based on their location. It usually runs me about $27 for a basic pedicure plus tip. They do a really good job on my nails. I usually do an awful job so they've fixed my toe nail massacres and now my nails look great. I've decided to get regular pedicures now to keep the look going and as long as I'm in this neighborhood, I'll keep going to this salon! read more

Castro Street, commonly referred to as "The Castro," is a block filled with wonderful food, amazing people, and of course who could forget the beautiful Castro Theater. Here at Castro Nail Salon we pride ourselves in establishing a rapport with our community, and serving our neighborhood in any way possible. We support non-profit organizations with donations, and provide fellow merchants with a weekly merchant discount. I am Riyad Khoury owner of Castro Nail Salon. I opened Castro Nail Salon in 2004 right next to the historic Castro Theatre . We pride ourselves of serving the community and beyond all these years. We are open 7 days a week from 10-7 . As well we are a certified San Francisco Green Business, meaning we are using more of natural materials and reducing the use of chemicals. I also noticed my friend's legs/feet massage was SUBSTANTIALLY longer than mine and her person (younger man) attended well to her feet. That is my biggest complaint, a lackluster and way too short legs/feet massage. My next complaint is the cursory attention to my intense calluses on my feet and cracked skin heels. He maybe used the pumice stone for 20 seconds on each foot ! THIS is such an important part of a pedicure, coming away with soft feet. My feet were exactly the same when I left as when I came in. SO DISAPPOINTED!!!! Certainly NOT worth spending $70!!! One of the other things that softens feet for a proper pedicure is soaking them in treated warm water. A bowl of tepid water arrived, but it was not warm enough and my feet HARDLY got a chance to soak making the soak useless. I don't know, end of the week (Sunday) late afternoon I got someone who was not so into providing a satisfying service?!? I will give them one more try and speak up about my needs

I do not recommend getting a Gel-X mani here. First, the recommendation I was given didn't make sense. My natural nails had grown out pretty long, so I asked for hard gel. Multiple staff members recommended Gel-X extensions instead for the design I wanted. My natural nails were only slightly shorter than my reference image, but I wanted to trust their expertise. I was wrong. I chose the shorter extension length and it ended up being the same length of my natural nail before the tech cut them, so the extensions added nothing and I unnecessarily had my nails cut. Second, the application quality doesn't match the price. There are ill-fitting corners throughout. Rather than sizing up to an extension that fit my nail bed, the tech filed down my side walls to force the smaller one to fit, which hurt. One extension on my index finger is visibly crooked. I pointed it out and was told it looked straight - looking at it again and in photos, it's clearly off-center. There's also still cured gel on my skin, which is a contact dermatitis risk. Third, the pricing was not transparent. I paid $115 for a Gel-X removal and Gel-X manicure. The pricing on the website and at check-in is confusing, and when I showed my inspiration photo up front, no one quoted me. The tech told me the price, $155, only after she had already started the design. I got it down to $115 by dropping the star flakes, which were $40 on their own. I want to pay techs fairly for their work, but $40 for star flakes isn't worth it. To be fair, there were genuine positives. I called to let them know I was running 10 minutes late and the staff were completely understanding about it. Given the reviews here, I'll assume this isn't the standard, and that it's fixable.

My cousin and I went in to get a mani/pedi when I visited her in SF. I liked the lady there and she did a pretty good job. I was kinda surprised by how expensive it was.. maybe im just used to things being cheaper in Alabama. When the lady removed my gel, she used a very sharp cuticle trimmer to aggressively pick, rip, and scratch the polish off. My nails bled. It was like she was scratching off a lottery ticket extremely hard. There was no acetone or foil wraps or drill used to gently peel off polish. Rather, she was carelessly ripping away my nail bed. I'm not a nail technician but any smart person with common sense knows this is so extremely wrong. She filed my nails super uneven, they were all different shapes and lengths. I had to politely ask 2 times to file my nails round and short. She was super rude about it. Immediately, I noticed how extremely scratched up and fragile my nails became, yet she still put polish on. I should have said something, but I felt rude telling her how to do her job. Huge regret. Few days later, every single 10 of my REAL finger nails have broke in half. They weren't even acrylics. Broke so short that the skin under nails are exposed and bled. This has never happened to me before. You can see all of the deep scratches under the gel that's how bad it is. My nail beds are still extremely scratched up, flimsy, and super rough. They are DAMAGED. Out of the hundreds of gel manicures I've had, this was BY FAR the worst, most DAMAGING service. Please avoid unless you want your nails to be broken and damaged. This place should not be in business.
